Lily didn’t take Irina’s warning seriously and still hopped up and down a few times to prove a point. It was all in good fun anyways, and Irina was quick enough to catch her if she fell. What a story that would be! “See? Not even the wind can beat me. I’m invincible!” Sitting down was just as nice though, and definitely not as death defying. She snorted at the idea of a blanket getting stuck on the tower. How would they possibly explain that? Being out on the roof was already grounds for a detention or ten, taking one of those wonderful blankets out of the common room would probably be immediate expulsion. She couldn’t bring herself to actually take something as great as those away from the other Gryffindors though. They deserved them sometimes too. Just not when she was using them.
She watched as the other Gryffindor stood up and headed around towards a different side of the tower. Curiosity got the best of her, and she climbed around as well, following Irina to where she was standing in front of a gap. Raising her eyebrows inquisitively, Lily watched the golden rope appear from Irina’s wand and connect itself to the tower across the gap. So that’s what she was doing! Lily finally hopped to her feet and ran up behind her friend, impatiently waiting for her turn. “Yeah, yeah hurry up. I want a go too.” She pulled her wand out just in case, because she knew what Irina expected of her if something went wrong. Didn’t mean she couldn’t be excited about going across the rope as well.

Irina was glad that Lily not only supported her daredevilish idea, but was intending on following her across the rope. “Patience is a virtue, especially when it involves the only thing separating myself from plummeting thousands of feet to the ground is a rope,” she called back, but took several more steps forward. It was only a total of seven steps, but each one gave Irina both a thrilling and terrifying rush of adrenaline at the same time. Finally, she hopped onto the roof of the opposite of where they had just came and turned around. “Your turn,” she called, pulling out her wand as a precaution for Lily, just as the girl had done for her. When the redhead had joined her, Irina gestured for her to follow across the long roof, her intended destination not quite evident yet as Irina had to remember exactly where it was. “Come on,” she called; she turned a corner and saw what had been hidden by another one of the turrets. “The Owlery, I haven’t visited Arthur just to visit in a few weeks. The only times I’ve been down there were to communicate with...well, you know,” she said, trailing off a little. She climbed onto the turret of the Owlery; the windows were rather large, but there were a few stones jutting out that she used to get down to one of the open windows. She swung through and landed lightly on her feet; the years of tree climbing and acting like a monkey over a girl sometimes evident. She spotted her owl Arthur immediately and whistled lowly; the eagle owl fluttered down from his perch and landed on her shoulder lightly. “Here buddy,” she said, plucking an Owl Treat from a barrel and feeding it to him. She sat down, suddenly light-headed. “I think the altitude was starting to get to me a little,” she admitted, chuckling lightly. lily luna potter

Patience might be a virtue, but it also didn’t exist in Lily’s vocabulary, thus she didn’t feel the need to be patient over waiting her turn. She supposed the rope could probably hold both of them walking across at the same time, but testing her luck by attempting that little trick probably wouldn’t hold over well with Irina. The last thing she wanted to do was send both of them falling off the highest tower of Hogwarts. Irina was across in a matter of seconds, meaning that now it was her turn to go. Shoving her wand back in her pocket, Lily quickly moved across the rope, one foot in front of the other, hoping to get across without a hitch. Feet finally planted on the other side of the rope, Lily bowed in front of Irina. “I could do that with my eyes closed.” Though whether or not she actually could would be tested on another day, seeing as Irina was intent on going over to the Owlery.
Following her fellow Gryffindor across to the next tower, Lily noted that they would be swinging through one of the windows. She loved swinging on things, mostly tree branches in the woods. Those were always fun. The best part of today though was the constant possibility that one wrong move could send either her or Irina plummeting to the ground. After being turned into a werewolf, things like this didn’t bother her too much. Landing next to Irina inside the owlery, Lily looked around at all the birds as her friend went up to feed her owl. She always used Al’s because there was no reason for both of them to have an owl here. At the moment though, it looked like it was out somewhere else.
Irina sat down on the ground, and Lily hopped over to join her. “Yeah, it was pretty high up there, wasn’t it?” She felt fine, though she also did a lot more death-defying things than Irina normally did. At least that she was aware of. “So…what now?” Climbing back onto the roof from here would be difficult, maybe even impossible.

Irina knew Lily’s sense of adventure was stronger than even her own; it was made evident by how close behind the redhead followed her on the tightrope . “I’m sure you could, but if you did it with your eyes closed how would you know when to stop balancing on the rope?” she asked her friend teasingly. She let Arthur flutter back up off her arm to the high rafters. “Well, we can’t get back on the roof from here...and to be fair we were probably up there long enough that the fact we weren’t caught by anyone is a miracle in of itself,” she admitted, laughing a little. She paused for a moment, thinking and then grinned. “I say we go refuel first then expand our exploration outdoors at the ground level,” she declared, her stomach grumbling in crude approval. Grabbing Lily’s hand, Irina pulled her out of the Owlery, across the castle and down into the basement. Once the door to the kitchens was opened, they were immediately surrounded by the house elves that were always so eager to please. “We need sandwiches, to go if possible. Oh and a few pickles and crisps,” Irina asked them, and off they went. " I figure you really eat whatever, so we can grab and go back to exploring,” she told Lily. One of the house elves asked if Lily wanted anything specific and Irina waited to see what her friend would say. lily luna potter

Lily let out an audible ‘ha!’ at the idea of getting caught while climbing around on the roof. If falling didn’t kill her, then getting reprimanded for that would. Although it couldn’t be nearly as bad as after she was turned. That was funny. Seeing all of the disappointed looks on the adults’ faces. They were just jealous that they hadn’t thought of it first, because the freedom to do whatever definitely outweighed the problems that supposedly came with lycanthropy. “Getting in trouble isn’t that bad. That’s an experience in itself.” Lily nodded her head in agreement with herself. She knew that the advice she gave others was always good because it was coming from her. If they wanted to have fun, then she was the person to go to!
Irina pointed out that the adventures could continue, but she wanted to get food first. Lily’s head bobbing only intensified at this idea, and she wrapped her hands around her stomach. Food was always welcome with her. In an instant, they were off again, this time heading back into the castle and down to the kitchens. She didn’t find herself down here too often, mostly finding someone else to run off and get her food instead, but it was always exhilarating to talk to all the house elves. They were so adorable, with their pointy ears and squeaky voices. Irina made quick work to order sandwiches from them and they seemed happy to oblige. In her experience, going into the kitchens and not asking for food was worse than getting something to eat. “You know me too well Rina,” Lily grinned at her friend as a house elf came over and asked Lily if she wanted anything specific to eat. Oh this was too perfect. “Chocolate!” She practically screamed, her voice exploding out of her. The house elf hopped backwards a few feet, but seemed to be delighted to get her the chocolate regardless. “Please and thank you,” Lily added, giggling at her own ridiculous outburst.

Irina grinned widely at Lily's enthusiastic agreement to the idea of food; of course she hadn't expected anything less from her friend, but it was still relieving that she'd be able to fill her belly with some delicious kitchen food. S he burst out laughing though at Lily's outburst, calling for chocolate. "Of course, I forgot something sweet, how silly of me," she said, shaking her head but grinning widely all the same. Once the house elves bobbed over with all their food, Irina conjured a sack that she could wear on her back. "That'll make exploring easier," she said, reaching in and grabbing a half of a sandwich before offering it to Lily. Once the redhead had picked her food choice, Irina slid the bag onto her back and off they went outside.
The air was quite a bit warmer down off of the roofs and on the grounds, which Irina had expected. She rolled up the sleeves of her sweatshirt; she still was pumped full of adrenaline from their roof excursion and flushed from excitement. "Where shall we go? Into the forest, around the lake, up the hills..." she trailed off, looking at Lily expectantly. She had told her friend she'd go and do whatever she said, and she had meant it. That meant the decision was all Lily's.

“Yes, how silly of you to forget the most important thing ever.” Lily agreed, nodding her head rather violently, not missing a beat with her giggles. This was a great day. The house elves never disappointed her when it came to procuring the best chocolate for her. She swore that they held off the really good stuff just for her visits, because it definitely wasn’t the same that was used for desserts every night. It paid off having connections to them sometimes, especially when she needed her dosage of daily sugar. Technically she wasn’t supposed to consume too much sugar in a day because it caused like, attention problems or something, but she never paid attention to that. Getting candy into her system prevented bouncing off the walls with anticipation for it all day. Obviously she then had to run off the sugar rush, but it was totally worth it.
Irina made a bag appear out of nowhere, like magic or something, and started putting the food into it. The house elf that Lily had talked to about getting the chocolate came back and handed most of it to Irina to put it away, but gave Lily a chunk of it for the road. This was great. No, it was amazing! The amount that had been handed over to the other Gryffindor was more than the two of them could eat right now, which meant she would definitely have leftovers later. Goodbye sleep, hello sugar-induced all-nighter! That lazy bum Grey would be so proud of her.
Off they went again, back outside and onto the grounds. Irina was leaving it up to her to decide where to go next. There were so many wonderful spots to explore though. Too many for her to decide on her own, so she decided to take one of Irina’s options. “Lake!” Lily yelled, throwing her fist into the air. “I want to give the giant squid some chocolate. He likes it when I do that.”

“I said I was sorry!” Irina exclaimed teasingly, though she knew her friend was joking. Irina herself was much more of a savory foods person to sweet, but she knew Lily was a sweets hound. “At least they gave you the good stuff,” she pointed out; she was sure the house elves used Honeydukes chocolate on a regular basis, but they likely saved the good stuff when it came to birthday dessert requests, or just Lily being Lily. She wondered what exactly would happen if Lily ingested too much sugar, then decided she didn’t want to know. She was bound to find out someday, one way or another. “Speaking of chocolate, did you get a chance to see the chocolate fondue fountain at the Yule Ball?” she asked, remembering her prior conversation with Anna the previous night. Both girls had agreed that if anyone could have commandeered the fountain to bring it to the Common Room it was Lily, but Irina wasn’t sure if the girl had spotted it with everything that had gone on between her and Adrian. Irina couldn’t help but laugh at Lily’s excited response to where they were off to next. “Is that safe?” she asked, partly joking but partly curious. She had no idea if the Giant Squid was able to eat chocolate or not, but she was pretty sure the Care of Magical Creatures professor would have something to say if she caught them. “Hopefully wherever he is he’ll surface somewhere that is a little hidden from the Care of Magical Creatures paddocks,” she said out loud, mostly to herself. Still she followed her friend around the lake until they came to a stop. Irina waited to see how Lily was planning to summon this giant squid, watching curiously for any sign of it in the depths of the lake. lily luna potter

Oh, she saw the chocolate fondue fountain at the ball. That was only like, the second most important thing of the night. She had practically been swimming in it at one point, along with disappointed looks from literally everybody. Nothing new there though. It was totally worth clocking out on a chocolate overload. Apparently it gave other people stomach aches when they had that much, but chocolate didn’t affect her, aside from the sugar rush. There were the crude jokes that dogs weren’t supposed to eat chocolate as well, which she mostly ignored. The joke was on them. She, Lily Potter, was a werewolf. Not a silly little dog. Her claws and fangs were much bigger, and she had way better fur to pet too. Obviously she made that known to the haters. “I wish I could have brought it back with me,” Lily stated, frowning slightly. “It was a little too heavy for me to drag up to the common room.”
Was the lake safe? Probably not. There was the giant squid for one, and then the mermaids and other creatures that lived there. Most were relatively friendly and would leave them alone if they were on the shore or walking in the water. “Of course! Squiddy is a dear friend of mine.” She had made a habit of tossing food at him every now and again if she was walking by and had some on her. They made it to the lake after a few more minutes of walking, and Lily took some of the chocolate that the lovely little house elf had given her. Chocolate in hand, she kicked her shoes off and rolled her pant legs up so they wouldn’t get too wet when she hopped into the water. “Usually I make a lot of motions like I’m drowning,” Lily pointed out as she splashed water all over with her free hand, stomping ever now and then to get small ripples going. “He likes to ‘save’ people when they’re swimming, so I like to give him treats every now and then.” She stopped her shenanigans for a little bit and stood in the water as still as possible, hoping the squid would understand what she was trying to do.

Irina laughed out loud when Lily lamented that the chocolate fondue was too heavy for her to drag it up on her own. "Adrian wouldn't have helped you?" she asked, somewhat slyly. Really she knew that Lily had been far too distracted over being supremely happy that Adrian wouldn't have to leave to move to America, all thanks to Daniel. "I'm glad he was able to help Adrian stay at Hogwarts, by the way," she added softly. It was something that didn't entirely surprise Irina; she knew Dan was capable of such a kindness, even though he and Adrian didn't get on very well for the most part. "It would certainly be interesting to see the two of them living together though if that does end up happening," she added, grinning at the idea. Irina watched Lily with a bemused expression as she explained the squid, or Squiddy and how she got his attention. "That's all and well Lily, but its the middle of January - isn't it a bit chilly to be pretending to drown?" she pointed out; the lake water would be well below freezing at this point. Their fathers had had to swim in the lake in the later part of February and she couldn't imagine how cold it was then. She thought she saw some movement underneath the water, and she crouched down to get a closer look at things. lily luna potter

“He wouldn’t have been that helpful. He’s kinda weak when he isn’t wolfed out,” Lily stated casually. She was pretty sure she could bring him down in a fight if it came to it. That or because he was always a wimp about getting physical with people. She supposed that was fine, not wanting to hurt people and stuff. Didn’t mean there couldn’t be a decent struggle cuddle every once in a while. Then Irina had to go and make things sad again by talking about Dan. That wasn’t going to go over well if she kept thinking about it. “I’m glad too. That was the shock of like, the century.” More like emotional turmoil that she didn’t know was possible. Those were scary days and scary thoughts that she didn’t want to have again.
Lily shrugged her shoulders at the mention of the water being cold. So what? Water was water at the end of the day. As far as she was concerned, the squid needed some chocolate so she could spread the happiness. “I’ll just use a drying charm or something if I get soaked,” she pointed out as she continued to kick the water around. Now that she thought about it, it was pretty cold. That wasn’t important though, because small ripples were starting to form near the center of the lake. Squinting at it, Lily knew what the cause was so she started to back up. If the squid was going to come out in full force, she’d be knocked backwards. Being out of the water was probably safer right about now.
Too late though, because out came a tentacle, slapping down onto the water’s surface, sending even larger ripples, and a few small waves her way. One wave was large enough to crash into her, splashing the frigid water right up the front of her. Apparently Squiddy had an attitude today. “Rude! I brought you chocolate too!” Lily shouted, water dripping down her face.

Irina couldn't help but snort as Lily said Adrian wouldn't be that much help. "You know girls usually are talking up their boyfriends macho manilness, not the other way around," she said teasingly, though she knew Lily and Adrins's relationship was not at all a standard relationship, werewolf status aside. "It was, Adrian would have stuck out like a sore thumb in America," she added with a laugh at the thought of Adrian trying to fit into Ilvermorny in what was to be his last year of schooling. It simply didn't make much sense to uproot him to a country all the way across the ocean when he had so much back here in the United Kingdom. "Do you think your parents would have let him stay the whole summer if the other plan hadn't worked out?" she asked her friend curiously as she watched her wade into the water. Irina shrugged as if to say 'its' your funeral' as Lily brushed off the cold water in January quip, and stayed silent as Lily...summoned? the Giant Squid, head tilted curiously to one side as she went about it. She opened her mouth to shout as she saw one large tentacle shoot up into the air and slap back down, completely drenching Lily. Irina jumped back to avoid the water, and burst out laughing at the sight of her friend. "Well I don't want to say I told you so," she said teasingly, pulling out her own wand to help Lily dry off more quickly. "Perhaps a different tactic?" she suggested. lily luna potter

Lily scrunched her nose up at Irina as she pointed out that most girls talked up their boyfriends. “Well, I’m not most girls. Duh.” Wasn’t that already pretty obvious? She thought so. There was no time to be like everyone else when she was too busy being herself 24/7 365 days a year. Lily only nodded her head at first at the comment about Adrian sticking out in America. He already did here, she could imagine how crazy it would be over there. Thinking about all that again left a bad taste in her mouth. It was done with. Over. Adrian was staying at Hogwarts with her. “Maybe. Depends on if Al got his butt out of the house after graduating.” Quite honestly, she hadn’t thought about that too much. It had always been a possibility; a last minute contingency plan. Adrian did have Dan to go too as well if he really needed somewhere to stay. She knew her parents would have lent a helping hand if he needed it as well.
Turning around in the water as best she could, Lily trudged back towards the shore. Along the way, she stripped on rock or branch in the water, and went face first into it, only managing to catch herself once her face was fully submerged. Growling at the squid and her own ignorance to the fact that it was actually freezing cold out and now she was soaked too, Lily finished the last few meters back to Irina. Pulling out her own wand in succession to her friend, she started trying to warm herself up, hoping that the spell would dry her clothes as well. “Someone clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed today,” she frowned. Somewhere along her journey back to the shore she had managed to drop the chocolate that was in her hands. So much for that. “Is there any chocolate left? I might levitate it out there instead…”

Irina laughed out loud at Lily’s quip that she was not like most girls. “No Lil, you are certainly not like most girls,” she agreed, smiling as she shook her head a little at her friend. Lily Potter was not like anyone Irina had ever know before, and she knew it too. Instead of wanting to be like other people, she embraced her individuality, which Irina could appreciate coming from an all-Quidditch family. Perhaps that was why they gravitated towards each other; the wanting to embrace their differences combined with rather similar personalities and ideas of a fun time did make for a good friendship. “Do you think he will? Get his butt out of the house after graduation I mean,” Irina asked curiously. She wasn’t as close to Albus as she was the other siblings, but she did like the middle Potter boy and frankly was a little concerned for him after Dusti’s parents death and the events of the last year. Irina sat back and watched interestedly as Lily tried to get closer to the squid, only to trip and submerge herself in the water. She gasped and choked back a laugh as she helped her friend dry off more quickly. “You are trying to disturb him on a rather chilly morning in the middle of January; he’s probably in hibernation or something,” Irina reasoned to her friend. She shrugged off the backpack when Lily asked for more chocolate and rummaged around, looking for some. “You’re in luck,” she said, handing over the last bit of chocolate. “And I agree with you on the levitation bit; one dip in January waters is more than enough for one day,” she added with a chuckle. lily luna potter

Lily pondered the question about her brother. She had a hard time reading him sometimes. And then there was all the added sadness lately with Dusti. “Guess it depends on if he wants to be lazy or not,” she said as she continued blow-drying her clothes with her wand. She was almost completely dry now. “Mum and dad better be ready for me to live with them forever,” she laughed manically. Though now that she thought of that, maybe that wouldn’t be as fun as it sounded. Working was going to be a drag; being held down somewhere all the time. She could just play Quidditch and live the celebrity lifestyle. That would be hella fun. Lots of practice would need to be put in for that to happen though, and goofing off was way more enticing right now.
“Listen Rina, I’m a wild animal and possible man-killer as well, we don’t have the time to hibernate or sleep in.” Another blast of warm air went through her body and she nodded her head, satisfied with the results of the drying process. “Plus, who turns down chocolate? Losers, that’s who,” Lily answered her own question. Chocolate was basically magic in food form. Coffee too. It got her all jittery and excited to move. Apparently it wasn’t good for her, but she didn’t really care. If the giant squid was allowed to eat it, then so was she. That was only fair in her mind.
Lily skipped back over to Irina and took the last chunk of chocolate from her. This was the final attempt to feed her tentacle friend. If he didn’t want to take it, then his loss. She could always do with a little more chocolate in her life. “Thank you my dear,” Lily chimed as she hopped back towards the water. She was going to stay out of it this time. It was a lot colder when it soaked you through then it was standing in it. Tossing the chocolate up in the air, she made sure to catch it with a levitation charm and hovered it a good distance above the water. Squiddy was going to have to jump for this one.
