Rai had taken the day off yesterday but she was back now, taking a walk along the trees by the forest at the edge. It was January eighth, and Rai was more sure now than ever that she was head over heels for one of her best friends, Grey Slater. She had been iffy, confused and unfocused about it all before. But recent events had cleared it up for her. And now, replacing that doubt and that fear with confidence and brightness. She felt like she was flying, which she actually could so she knew what the sensation was like. The strange lift in her stomach, the elation in her heart. She felt... well, she felt incredibly cheesy. Like she was in a Broadway musical and the only way she could express these feelings was through song and dance.
Her mind flickered back to that night with Poe, two nights ago. She felt her heart tug a little at that night. At what she'd felt verses what she hadn't. She'd thought about kissing him before, even pictured it but... it didn't happen how she imagined. First of all, it wasn't really on purpose and second of all... she felt nothing. Nothing romantic, that is. She was sad about that, in a way, but also couldn't deny that she was incredibly relieved that her mind had finally found some sort of stable ground.
She thought about that night that she almost died, that the vampire had given her a choice and she had chosen to stay. Of course she stayed for all her friends and family, but in her heart she knew what the main tether was. Who, rather. And, luckily, she happened to see said person up ahead, walking in her direction. She grinned widely. He was walking along the forests edge, too, not that she should be surprised. She felt her stomach do a summersault and she knew what she had to do next.
She was a Gryffindor, after all.
She continued her path until he noticed her approaching and gave a little wave. As the distance closed between them, he opened his mouth and started to say something, stopping where he was. But she didn't break her stride. Instead, she took the necessary steps to completely close the distance between them. Her left hand grabbed the front of his shirt and her right hand clasped the back of his neck as she pulled his lips to hers.
She kissed him, whether he kissed her back or not.

@railynn Finally it was a new year. Break had been interesting, especially the lead up to the Yule Ball. Pretending to be madly, desperately in love with someone as vile as Ondina had been tough. Tiring actually. Keeping up the charade of rushing around the castle constantly looking for her was exhausting. He had to give his former love-potioned self some bonus points for getting him into shape, running up and down the eight flights of stairs that lay between the Gryffindor and Slytherin common rooms. So much so, that he actually bought into the New Year’s resolution thing and decided to keep it going a little longer. Obviously he wasn’t going to be running up and down the stairs like he had the month prior, but going for early morning walks on the grounds was a work out on its own. So that’s what he was doing today; the same as he had done for the past week, only missing one day to sleep through a class. Sleep was an integral part in keeping the body fit, especially with all this additional walking that he was putting in now.
Glancing at his watch, it read ten in the morning. Perfect time to head back up to the castle and get breakfast. That was still quite the trek though, because this specific morning he had found himself down along the edge of the forest. It was literally all uphill to get back to school. Continuing along the path to head back up, Grey only broke his concentration from staring at the forest when he caught a figure out of the corner of his eye moving along the path towards him. Nothing unusual there, since the students from the other schools liked to move around the grounds long before anyone in the castle woke up. Except the person on the path before him wasn’t a student from a different school. It was Rai. A smile crept up on his face as they approached each other, Grey holding his hand up in a wave. He hadn’t really seen her since the Yule Ball, the image of her dancing around with him had been firmly implanted in his mind the last few weeks.
Rai didn’t seem to be slowing down as she got closer though. She wasn’t going to tackle him was she? “If you’re thinking about using that jelly charm again please don’t. It’s a little earl-” As he talked, Rai had managed to get right up in front of him. Close enough to grab the front of his shirt and the back of his neck. Close enough to kiss him. He didn’t immediately react, still shocked by the sudden action that was occurring. Normally that lack of reaction would continue. But this wasn’t normal. It was Rai, and this was more real feeling than anything he had experienced under the love potion. Instead of not doing anything, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer.

She was expecting to be shocked at how the kiss felt but... it almost felt familiar, in a strange way. Like it was a totally normal thing, that it was right. She loosened her grip on his neck a little in order to let her hand slide up to his hair instead as his arms wrapped around her. She knew that she had surprised him, at first. but now... he was kissing her back. Which, to her, meant that he had that moment to break it off and he didn't. No, he was pulling her closer.
She found herself smiling against his lips and tugged on his shirt a little more, anchoring him to her for a little longer. She thought her mind would be racing, but it wasn't. Her heart was, but that was different. Her thoughts were... peaceful, almost serene as they kissed. She took one tiny breath of air, not moving her lips that far away before kissing him again, a little more, before finally breaking away. She caught her breath and pressed her forehead against his for a moment, keeping her eyes closed. "Okay," she said softly, pulling her head back in order to look at his face, "still alive," she assured herself. Yep, she was still here. This was reality. Standing here, having kissed Grey. This was real life, and she was still breathing. Nothing fell apart, the ground didn't break apart, the sky didn't crush her, her brain was still functioning.

@railynn Rai’s hold on the back of his neck loosened almost immediately. What had been rather stiff and awkward on his part, because he had been caught off guard, now felt naturally relaxed. There wasn’t much thinking going on in his head, just doing. For whatever reason though, he knew this would have happened eventually. With everything that had happened lately, he had thought she wouldn’t be the same way after becoming a vampire. The Yule Ball had eased his mind though, and despite the fangs and bloodsucking thing, Rai was still Rai. She pulled him closer again with a tug of his shirt, and he went willingly. There was only a slight pause in it all, enough, he took it, to gain some semblance of a breath before she pressed her lips against his again. This time he was aware of what was going to happen, so it went much smoother.
Grey wasn’t really aware of how much time had passed; probably mere seconds, minutes at most. The only thing he was acutely aware of was the feeling of her lips on his, and the echoing throb of his heartbeat in his ears. Eventually Rai pulled her lips away from his, her forehead softly bumping into his. She muttered something about being alive still, and he thought for a half-second that meant she managed to pull this off without biting into him. The look on her face told him otherwise. “That’s one hell of a way to say good morning to someone.” He joked, a smile forming on his face. “I could get used to that.” This time a little more serious, and with a nod of his head.

After their sort of second kiss, after she took that breath, it seemed much more natural, since all the surprise on his end was gone. And, once again, she marveled in the fact that he was still there, and was still kissing her. He spoke, after she did, saying that it was one hell of a way to say good morning to someone, and that he could get used to it. At first his smile seemed a little bit silly, but then, something sunk in when he nodded. That he actually meant it, that he could get used to... This.
She felt herself starting to smile back, slowly at first but then her lips broke into a grin. Her hand that was clutching the front of his shirt slowly uncurled, releasing the fabric so she could just flatten her hand against him instead. "Well, you should know I greet everyone like that," she joked her smile growing a little more. Then, she shook her head, taking a deep breath before speaking again. "Don't think this changes anything. I can still kick your butt," she said, trying to sound humorous again, but her tone betrayed her. Her tone was soft, as if instead of saying those words she was saying something much more meaningful. "I just might stick around to make you feel better afterwards now..." she added, biting onto her bottom lip to try and contain her smile from growing.
A small giggle like sound escaped, though, and she widened her eyes at him as if daring him to laugh too. This was a different kind of laugh, though. It wasn't a laugh that implied that this was all a joke. It was a laugh that said that she had found a rush of pure happiness. Happiness that she hadn't experienced before.

@railynn While Rai let go of his shirt, he couldn’t help but notice the smile. He was positive he had gotten a glimpse or two of it at the Yule Ball. That was the smile that he thought would never come back after seeing her in the hospital. Apparently he was wrong. “So you’ve been holding out on me all these years? Rather unfair of you Railynn.” A small chuckle escaped his mouth. It was kind of strange cracking jokes right in the middle of something like this, but he still was unsure of how to react to all of it. He raised his eyebrows a little when she said she could still beat him up and that this didn’t change anything. “It doesn’t? Was kind of hoping this would be my lucky break.” He paused to smile. “And who says I ever actually tried? Maybe I just let you win.” No. Rai had definitely beat him up once or twice when he was trying. Possibly a few more times than that, something closer to a dozen or two. In his defense, first through fourth year Grey was kind of small and weak in general.
“Why? Were you going somewhere?” Grey responded. He held back from saying anything else because he could tell she was being serious about all of it. That’s right, this was supposed to be serious. Fun, but serious. Yet here they were, laughing and joking about it because that’s how they were. Nothing had changed and yet it had. He was fine with that. “I think you should.” He smiled again. “Stick around that is.”

He asked if she was holding out on him, and she shook her head. She didn't even know about any of this until very, very recently. She was glad that he chuckled, though. It was good to hear that sound, especially when she was so unsure about kissing him in the first place. "I've only been holding out for a month. Three tops," she said, chuckling herself.
Then he said he was hoping this would be her lucky break, and that maybe he was just letting her win before. She scoffed, shaking her head. "I know that's not true. Don't make me prove it to you now after we had such a nice kissing moment," she said, finally mentioning the 'kissing' thing out loud. She expected to feel nervous about it, but she didn't. She felt... normal. Calm. Almost human.
He asked if she was going somewhere and she didn't say anything at first, until he said he thought she should stick around. "I would like to," she agreed. She paused, chewing on the corner of her lower lip. She took a deep breath, before speaking again, "stick around that is," she answered, her voice lower now. She gently tightened her grip on his neck and her eyebrows furrowed together a little. "I tethered to you," she admitted, her voice almost inaudible.
