Her brother’s grin was beginning to make her feel better. But that was internally. Addilyn had no reason to show that she was feeling any happier than she had been. It wasn’t what she wanted to do. She just wanted her best friend back. Even if he didn’t want to be with her anymore, she just wanted that black haired boy she met on the train. That boy who had no idea what magic was. Taking the chance of getting rid of all the kisses, all the hugs and emotional moments, she’d do it just to have the laughter and enjoyment back. And if Grey could help her do that, Addilyn wouldn’t say no.
”I’m glad she helped too. Who know’s what I’d be like if she didn’t? Probably like you.” The sarcastic joke had made Addilyn choke out a small chuckle, but the amusement didn’t last very long. She finished her coffee and filled it back up. Her toast was finally gone, so she ended up eating more than she had been. Placing some scrambled eggs and bacon on her plate, she took a bite of each. And then Grey said that name again, and Addilyn’s swallow was rough. She placed her fork down and looked up at Grey, her eyes void of any emotion. ”I need to fix it.”

@jill2 Grey was willing to let that low blow go, fully knowing that she hadn’t really meant what she said, mainly taking note of the sarcasm that dripped off each word. The funny this was that technically Addi wasn’t wrong. She could have turned out like him; like Claire too, the more he thought about it. He was essentially a clone of his older sister, and it seemed like both of them didn’t want the youngest to follow in their footsteps. He believed that was fundamentally impossible, most of the basis lying in the fact that she wasn’t a Gryffindor. Obviously that only scratched surface level personality traits and quirks, but it did make a difference at the end of the day. Addi had different values and beliefs than he and Claire had, and that did come down to the people she had around her all the time. Maybe if she had been placed in Gryffindor like they had, things would be different now. It was hard to tell, and he wasn’t particularly a fan of playing what-if games.
He watched her eat, clearly thinking over what he asked again. Other than getting her to open up about everything, and finally eating real food, his main goal was still to figure out what was going to happen between her and Edmund going forward. Grey preferred to see things go back the way they were, because he understood the injustice that had formed out of Daryl’s idiotic stunt at the ball. If people weren’t constantly holding his sister hostage over trivial things, maybe he would have fought his roommate then and there. That was now the second time in as many school terms that someone had gotten the better of him. Apparently not being an aggressive person meant others felt like they could walk all over him. They would regret that eventually if push came to shove. “You do,” Grey agreed, nodding his head. “But don’t think it’s your fault, because it isn’t. It’s Daryl’s,” he added, a little more hushed at the end of the sentence. Last thing he needed was more turmoil from the other Gryffindor.

Grey stayed silent for awhile. She hoped he wasn't offended by what she said. She had only been kidding, but maybe he couldn't tell with how her attitude was lately. Addilyn felt a bit guilty, and decided dumb jokes like that were a no go until she was her normal self again. If she ever was that way again. At this rate, it didn't seem like it. It had been almost two months, and with no avail Edmund was still ignoring her. Whether Grey had an idea on what to do or not, she wasn't sure yet.
"I know it's not my fault. But that's not what he thinks. And I spoke to his sister...Susan. She thinks giving him space works, but it's been months, Grey. How much more space does he need? He doesn't even know my side." The more she spoke of it, the angrier she got. Addilyn was becoming less upset and more annoyed. She loved Edmund, she really did. But he needed to get off his high horse and listen to her. Or somebody. She even considered stomping over to this Daryl and making him talk to Edmund. Though that wouldn't be the best idea, nor would it end pretty.

@jill2 So she had already spoken to Edmund’s older sister about it too. Interesting. He was pretty sure he hadn’t really talked to Susan before; he knew of her, of course, but that didn’t change the fact that there wasn’t a communication line between the Ravenclaw and a lazy lion, and there probably never would be. At least not outside the relationship their younger siblings had. Now though? Maybe he would need to have a talk with her, even if it was just to get his head wrapped what exactly was going on with Edmund.
Addi’s comment about how Susan said he wanted more time to think it over was slightly concerning, and he was starting to understand why his sister was the way she was right now. From the way it sounded, Edmund didn’t want things to go back to the way they were. He was dead set on it ending. Of course that was all based off something that wasn’t really happening, and he was completely wrong in thinking that way, but that didn’t change the fact that he was going through the motions already. Why were Slytherins so stubborn? “Maybe that’s for the best then,” he said hesitantly. “Things don’t get fixed overnight, and while it’s all on him, he’s obviously finding some reason to not come back. I don’t think it’s you, but something he’s grappling with on his own.” Grey knew he was grasping for things, but that was all he could come up with. As much as they wanted to fictionalize his feelings, that was simply impossible and would only get Addi’s hopes up. There was no telling what was going through Edmund’s head without actually talking to him. And right now, it sounded like he still needed time to figure out all of that himself.

Grey's words hurt her more than she could say. But Addilyn did everything in her power to keep her facial expression stone like, not letting him know how badly it hurt her. She could let out the emotions later, in her own bed by herself without anyone around to see. Addilyn wasn't sure if that was for the best. She hoped it wasn't, but there was always that chance it was. It wasn't a chance she was willing to take, but if that was what Edmund wanted there wasn't anything she'd be able to do about it.
"Maybe." Maybe Edmund needed to think about things. Maybe there was something else wrong with Edmund that had nothing to do with their relationship or Addilyn. But that was where Addi wished it wasn't that. Her and Edmund were friends first, best friends before anything else. And if he couldn't trust her enough to talk to her about something that was bothering him, maybe being apart was for the best. "I hope he can figure it out. Whatever it is."

@jill2 A simple maybe. Grey knew his sister well enough as of late to know that one worded answers meant he struck out somewhere. His last statement had been harsh, but it was also realistic. There was the possibility that Edmund knew he had jumped to conclusions too fast and couldn’t face admitting that. Even though he had just called the Slytherin boy an idiot a few minutes earlier, he was still smart. Trying to save himself from pain was a human thing to do, even if it afflicted Addi instead. Not that Edmund would know, considering he hadn’t so much as spoke to her about it yet. The only other option was that Edmund found all of it too much to carry, instead falling back and avoiding the problem at hand. Grey could honestly say that he would do the same thing if they were in reversed roles. He had done the same thing. “Time will tell, as cliché as that is,” Grey pointed out. Rushing it wouldn’t help. As he kept saying, if Edmund wanted to fix it, he would. But that was on him. No amount of begging by Addi, Grey, or anyone else for that matter, would change his decision. “I hope he does too.” Grey muttered as he finished off the remainder of his coffee. Standing up, he stared at his sister for a few moments, not saying anything. He wanted to tell her that if Edmund didn’t want to go back, then she needed to learn to move on as well. Grey kept that to himself though. That wasn’t his right to tell her that. She needed to learn it herself, if it ended up coming to that crossroad. “Keep eating. If I catch you slacking again, I’m telling Claire,” he jokingly threatened as he turned to leave the Great Hall. “We both know you don’t want that talk. She’ll give it to you straight.” [Grey End]

Ugh. Time. Addilyn knew she needed it. She knew Edmund needed it. It was just so long, and whether or not they'd end up together again, she wasn't sure. But like her brother stated, time will tell. Addilyn just had to flow along with that and hope for the best. Complaining and trying to make it better wouldn't fix it, she had to either allow Edmund more time, or wait for him to go to her. The first one seemed the better option as she wasn't sure he'd willingly go to her. Addi sipped her coffee, but looked up at Grey as he stood. They stared at each other - not for very long, but long enough to make Addilyn scrunch her eyebrows at him. Whatever was going on in his brain must have been important enough for him to contemplate if he should say it or not. Though it seemed that he decided against it, because when he spoke he had a bit of humor to his tone. "Yes yes. I'll eat. Don't you worry." She forced a smile and took a bite of toast, contemplating maybe a piece of quiche. "I don't, so you make sure to tell her I'm stuffing my face in sadness."
