Ethan and three of his favorite Quidditch mentors from his first few years, Ronan, Sean and James, had set up a special time to play a little game of Quidditch. They invited Carcer as well, because he was a good friend and often referee. Ethan arrived on the Quidditch pitch with his broom tucked under his arm. He hadn't worn his entire quidditch get-up, just some Jeans and a dark blue t-shirt. When the boys played, it was fairly casual. Unless it was game week, then things got ugly. Sean and Ethan were on the same team obviously, but Ronan and James were pretty darn good and Gryffindor was hard to beat because of it. Not too mention Maryn, the captain of the hufflepuff team, was tough as nails. Game weeks were the toughest weeks for Ethan and his friends, because they just got really serious.
Simple fun and games was great though for the boys, especially since quidditch was how they became friends. Ethan had to act humble around Ronan, Sean and James when it came to quidditch, for they helped shape what he was today. For fairness among friends, they usually split teams between the Ravenclaw and Gryffindors in their little friend group. Ethan tucked his broom between his legs and flew up into the air, doing a little spin and flip in preparation for his friends to arrive.

Man it was a nice day out for a game of qudditch as Ronan scanned the grounds and the path leading towards the Quidditch pitch. Today they would be playing a friendly game just between Ethan, Sean James, Carcer if he showed up, and himself. They did this every so often. Since it was just afriendly game he was in a pair of jeans and his jersey. He was standing on the front steps leading into the Entrance Hall, broom in one hand and the quaffle tucked under his other arm. He quickly mounted his broom and took off at top speed towards the pitch. To people down below he was probably just a blur yet to him a seasoned Quidditch player he saw everything as if it was going at normal speed.
Arriving at the pitch he saw Ethan warming up. “Heads up Ethan!” Ronan shouted as he threw the quaffle towards his friend/Quidditch rival(during official games that is). As the quaffle flew towards his friend Ronan began doing a warm up lap, throwing in moves every now and then just to make sure he had them down. It wouldn’t do well if he couldn’t execute them. He came to a stop near the center of the pitch and just hovered there as he waited for his other friends to show up as well, and plus in the meantime Ethan and he could practice passing the ball and tackling as well or something like that. Because who knew how long it would take for James, Sean and Carcer to show up.

James could not think of a better way to spend an afternoon off than with his friends playing a good "friendly" game of Quidditch. James had grown up playing Quidditch and he came from a long line of Seekers so it was only right that he was a Seeker himself. He even landed the position as Captain a few years back, so James knew all members of the house teams very well. He was walking down to the pitch with his broom over his shoulders when he saw something fly over him. James immediately knew who it was. He just rolled his eyes. "Show off," he said aloud as he watched the figure on the broom head to the pitch.
Ronan Finnigan was James's teammate and one of his very best friends. Their fathers had been friends in school and when the two met on the Quidditch team, they quickly became friends. Both had a knack for pranks. But then again, so did everyone else that was showing up for the game today.
Sean Owens was a talented Beater and considered the Ravenclaw ladies' man. James respected him and even called him a good friend. The two were a little competitive off the field as well, especially when it came to girls. But it was always in good fun. Ethan Johnson was a muggleborn and a talented one at that. He was Captain and Chaser for the Ravenclaw team. He was a good guy, and also enjoyed a good prank or joke every now and then as well. James liked Ethan, for he had never met such a talented muggleborn before. Then there was Carcer Hagrid. Easily the biggest of the give boys and probably the most mature. He wasn't as into pranks as the rest of them were, but he was good company and good crack a few good jokes himself that always had James roaring with laughter. Plus it was only right that a Potter child to befriend a Hagrid child.
James entered the pitch and looked up at the two flying around on their brooms. Of course they were the first to arrive. "Oi! He called up to the two of them. "You two show offs had enough play time yet?" He had a grin on his face as he then mounted his broom and flew up to level himself with the two of them. He then quickly glanced around the paths surrounding the pitch, looking for any sign of a Ravenclaw with swagger or a half-giant making their way down.

If there was a downside to being half-giant, it was being banned from Quidditch play. Not that he had a broom for his frame either way, but Carcer was banned for his size and strength, not his lack of equipment. Not that he considered it unfair. As a Chaser, Keeper, or Beater, he would be entirely unequaled by any human. Carcer could take a Bludger to the face without flinching and hit it hard enough to send it from one end of the field to the other. He could nearly cover all three goals from a single point. And nobody could steal the Quaffle from him because nobody could break his grip on the ball. So while he couldn’t play, it was hard for Carcer to really complain. Instead, he was currently rubbing the nose of a thirteen-foot-tall winged horse named Apollo. The stallion was restless, stamping his hooves against the ground and snorting. He wanted to fly. Carcer finished saddling him up before moving over to the mare. Diana was quieter, watching him calmly as he touched his forehead to her nose. “I’ll be your turn after we finish the game, alright?” he said quietly. Privately, he hoped Alice would come by and keep Diana company. He wouldn’t mind much if Alice took her out for a flight, but he doubted she was confident enough to do that without him just yet. And that was even if she showed.
But the simple fact was, he couldn’t ride both at the same time. So Carcer climbed onto Apollo and rode him out of the magically-enlarged stable. The mighty stallion couldn’t make tight turns like a broom, nor could he fly forever like one, but in terms of sheer speed he put any broom on the market to shame. And, of course, there was the size and power he brought to the table. Abraxans were hard to bring down, they had magical resistance and brutal strength. Apollo gradually increased his pace to a trot, then a gallop, finally spreading his wings and launching himself into the air. It took less than a minute to reach the Quidditch pitch, despite Carcer taking the long way by nearly circling the castle to give Apollo a little bit of a warmup. Ethan and Ronan were already playing around in the air, while James was flying up to join them. Carcer had mixed feelings about James Potter. He liked the guy personally, and James was certainly a brave individual and willing to stand up for others, but Carcer disliked his playboy attitude and he always seemed to put Alice in a foul mood. He was…they were friends who would never get along as roommates. That was a good way to put it. Like if Carcer was in Gryffindor, he was sure he and James would have had several fights by now.
As it was, they had not. Carcer grinned, urging Apollo into a powerful dive that cut straight between Ethan and Ronan as the half-giant snatched the Quaffle out of the air with one massive hand. He flung it over his shoulder, fifty feet straight up for the pair to race for, before circling around and slowing to a hover beside James. He grinned. “So how is your favorite Gryffindor doing, James?”

Racing into the courtyard he slowed down a little as he walked over to where the Qudditch field was, he need to get in to where the equipment was to get a bludger out, wasn’t any fun without a bludger flying around and he basically wasn’t the only beater going to be with his friends today. Carcer Hagrid the half-giant Hufflepuff was a freaking walking bludger repellent, which the thought of bludgers bouncing off him he gave a little smirk. Grabbing a case of one of the bludgers walked over onto the field, and as he did he looked up to see the group all their, 3 of them on brooms and the half-giant on an gigantic winged horse which he just gave a laugh at. This guy thought Sean he found it humors on good terms and had no bad blood with any of the people on the field. Ronan, James, and Ethan were all good friends and James was the ladies’ man of Gryffindor house so extra competition was there. He was a little ways away from them on the field as he dropped the case carrying the bludger so he could let it go. As he unlocked the case the bludger flew straight up and got on his broom and took off in the way his club in one hand.
He raced over to where his friends were on the other side of the field, and out of the corner of his eye he could see the bludger racing near him. Giving a little smirk he slowed down and the club raced towards him, he pulled up at once and did a sharp turn to the left and swung the bat. It collided with the bludger and the force sent it flying back to the left of the field. He laughed and then took off in the direction of his friends before coming to a halt and hovering besides Carcer and James. ”Hey guy’s how it’s going? Got caught up with some fifth year”said Sean with a grin off the make out session he had left earlier to come play Qudditich, he could always find her another time if he wanted.

Ethan was surprised but not unprepared when Ronan suddenly showed up and tossed the quaffles in his direction. He caught it and tossed it into the air, zooming up to catch it quickly. "Hey Ronan!" he called back with a smile. The guy was an amazing chaser, and Ethan threw the quaffle back in his direction as Ronan did laps and warm ups. He hoped to catch him off guard, but he knew Ronan better than that. His small but close group of friends had proved their worth in Quidditch several times, and Ethan knew that he couldn't surprise them easily. "How are you, man?" Ethan called over to Ronan as they flew.
As James arrived Ethans smile grew larger once again, "No way! You think we'd get ourselves worn out before the real play time started?" Ethan called to James as he flew up to them. He crossed closer to James and clapped him on the shoulder, "doin' okay, James?" he asked, a little more serious. He still tried to keep the mood light as much as possible, but he wanted to make sure James knew he was there for him. James had been through a lot this year already, and probably was going through a lot of things that Ethan didn't know anything about.
Ethan was so focused on James's arrival that he barely even noticed Carcer swoop down on his flying friend and snag the Quaffle out of the air. Ethan laughed and gave Carcer a little salute before speeding up after the Quaffle. Man that guy could throw far. Ethan sped toward the Quaffle, not sure if Ronan was following him or not. He caught the site of a bludger somewhere in the corner of his eye. Sean, Ethan thought with a giant smiler. Sean was the best beater Ethan new and a valuable asset to the Ravenclaw team. But he'd half to say hi a little later, he had a quaffle to catch.

Of course Ronan had been paying attention, why would anyone think that he was not. He had seen James and Sean enter the pitch which gave him an idea. But that would have to wait as he saw Carcer come in on one of those flying horses of his, and throw the ball a good fifty feet into the air. And of course he noticed that Ethan had finally noticed as well, and while his friend gave a salute to Carcer, Ronan quickly sped up to about the same height as the ball. He dived as the quaffle began to fall towards the ground and also Ethan who if he did not speed up would catch it before he did. Well there could be none of that right. Ronan gained on the ball and when it looked like it would be Ethan who caught it Ronan sped past mere inches from Ethan and snagged the quaffle out of the air. He came to a stop near the others “Hey Ethan you are going to have to be much faster than that when it is time for our match against each other during the season.” Ronan shouted towards Ethan.
“So guys how is it going? And Sean that fifth year that you say you go caught up with better not be my sister or we will have words you and I.” Ronan asked and then he playfully threatened Sean granted he didn’t make threats he made promises. Here they were some of the best quidditch players and pranksters in all of Hogwarts out on the pitch ready to have some friendly fun.
It had been a while since they had all gotten together and if you asked Ronan it had been too long. It was kind of funny to see people look at them as they went about doing whatever they wanted too. I mean come on who wouldn’t give their group weird looks they had a half-giant(or however many parts giant Carcer is), and then you had James, Sean, Ethan, and Ronan. Usually whenever anyone saw them together in the castle it was always followed by some kind of prank. Peeves even respected them and did nothing to them. But today here they were on the pitch about to play one of the greatest games in the wizarding world.

It really shouldn't have surprised James that his half-giant friend wouldn't be arriving by Abraxan. Carcer couldn't legally play Quidditch, due to his size and obvious strength. James wasn't necessarily jealous, for he was sure that he would lose his mind if he couldn't play Quidditch, but sometimes he envied the fact that Carcer got a lot of attention simply for being so massive. Carcer didn't need an ego to gain attention, much like James did. As the Abraxan approached them, James watched as the half-giant snatched the Quaffle and threw it right over his shoulder. James had to admit, if he was able to play, he would make a fair player. James smirked at the Hufflepuff when he greeted him. "He's doing great, thanks," he responded, an eyebrow raising at him. "And Hufflepuff's mightiest badger?" He asked in return.
James turned to look at the Ravenclaw and shrugged. "Who knows? I reckon you'll be pretty tired within the first few minutes anyway, eh, Johnson?" James joked with the Ravenclaw chaser. James grinned at Ethan. He was a talented muggleborn, and it really blew James away sometimes. He appreciated the gesture, which James could sense was friendly and caring. He nodded once at Ethan. "Surprisingly so," he said only a little quieter now. "Especially since we're about to get a head start on this season," his voice rose again to a louder, more excited level. It was good to have friends that he knew he could count on.
As the two Chasers set off toward the Quaffle that Carcer had thrown, James watched with his eyebrows slightly raised. James had a good eye, being a Seeker and all, and was really impressed by not only the height that Carcer had thrown the ball, but also the fact that Ronan and Ethan seemed to have a good sight on it. He shook his head as Ronan managed to grab the Quaffle right before Ethan. "Show off, as always," he said aloud.

As the two Chasers lived up to their namesake and chased the Quaffle down, James responded with that characteristic smirk of his, the one that made girls blush whether it was directed at them or not. Not the one that worked on Alice. The eldest Longbottom child loved James for more than his looks, Carcer knew that. He shrugged in response to James’ question. “Sun shining, Apollo’s ready to fly, and I have the opportunity to knock you lot off your brooms? I’d say I’m doing juuuust fine.” He grinned, just a hint of feral in his expression that wasn’t there normally. Carcer had inherited his father’s gentle nature, but at the end of the day, giants were predators and the thrill of a good chase was hard for that half of his blood to ignore. James chose then to taunt Ethan about Gryffindor’s Quidditch prospects. Carcer smirked. He rarely got into debates over Quidditch sinceh e wasn’t allowed to play. He hoped that perhaps he might be allowed to play an exhibition game sometime before he had to leave Hogwarts, just for fun, to see how he did in a match. But it wasn’t that important.
Getting to mess around with friends was the main thing.
“Show off, as always.” Carcer arched an eyebrow at James, amused that he had the ability to call someone else a showoff with a straight face like that. “Man, if that’s not crimson telling scarlet that it’s just red, I don’t know what is,” he said, voice dripping with sarcasm. But in the next instant, he grinned mischievously and lifted a finger to shush James before he got the attention of the two Chasers. “I’ve been working on a new trick. Wait here and try not to draw attention to yourself for ten seconds, that’ll be a real accomplishment.” He silently urged Apollo higher into the sky, until he had a good thirty feet of vertical height over the others. Then he hopped up in the saddle, tucking his legs under him, and slowly, carefully, began to cast, shifting his own form, feeling his body shrink, his senses shift and change as he finally revealed the results of his animagus training to his friends.
A flying squirrel, barely 30 centimeters long with its tail stretched out, leapt from Apollo’s back, catching the air like a glider.
Its fur was the exact same shade as Carcer’s hair, its eyes the same warm brown, and it was massive—for a flying squirrel, anyway, which normally only reached half that size. Carcer silently floated through the air, gliding in a circular fashion so that he could get above Ethan and Ronan without his shadow crossing them. Then, with what had to be the most self-satisfied grin any of them had ever seen on him, the half-giant shifted back, growing from a one-foot squirrel to a thirteen-foot Carcer in the space of two seconds…five feet over the others. “SURPRISE!” he roared, falling and grabbing hold of both broomsticks as he did. His weight was great enough to pull them from the sky, all three sinking slowly down until Carcer could put his feet on the ground and release the brooms. He grinned wickedly, even as Apollo landed nearby and trotted toward him.
“So, you like my animagus form?”

Ethan laughed as James made his 'prediction' about Ethan being tired within the first few minutes. He nodded and gestured to Carcer, "Well, with this guy playing we're all going to look like dead beat bags of flour once they game is over," he smirked. It took a lot of energy to keep up with Carcer, which was one reason Ethan loved playing with him. The guy really challenged their endurance, and strength. Ethan nodded at James as he shared that he was doing well, despite how things were going. Ethan cheered along with James as he rose his voice to a more excited tone. Today wasn't for serious talk! They had a game to play.
Ethan glared at Ronan as he questioned his speed. Of course Ethan wasn't playing at top notch yet, but he appreciated the friendly fire from the Gryffindor team. Ethan sped toward him, clicking his tongue as he saluted Ronan, "Oh, you know I will," he shoved Ronan a little before turned to nod at what James had said about Ronan being a show-off. Though, Ethan was a show-off, too! Nothing wrong with that in the correct setting.
Ethan was intrigued when Carcer rose above him and said something about watching a new trick. When he suddenly turned into a tiny flying squirrel Ethans jaw literally dropped. He watched the squirrel glide and shook his head in disbelief. When Carcer was human again, Ethan whooped and clapped his hands together, "Oh my hippogriff, Carcer! That was amazing!" he sped toward his Hufflepuff friend and patted him on the back, "seriously. How long did it take you to learn that?"

"Well, with this guy playing we're all going to look like dead beat bags of flour once they game is over," Ronan nodded his head in agreement with what Ethan said. It was a true statement, each time they played Carcer would usually only be slightly tired by the end and yet all of them would be dead tired and if Carcer was playing beater, well add in some broken bones and trip to the hospital wing. He was sure that it would happen at some point but he was not going to let it happen today. “Dead beat bags of flour is an understatement, remember last time, we all ended up in the hospital wing. Getting scolded by the head nurse was not fun, granted she always scolds us for being in there. Last time I was in there she commented that she always reserved beds for all of us since we always seem to be in there at some point during the school year.” Ronan said, and it was quite true all of it.
“Of course you will be faster than what you were just a second ago. But you should always do your best even when we are out here. I mean how else are you going to beat me today if you don’t do your best?” Ronan said as Ethan saluted him and even shoved him. Raising an eyebrow. “Is that a challenge?” He asked while giving a shove to Ethan.
He had been listening in on what Carcer and James were talking about. “Wait just a minute James. How am I the show off? You show off every chance you get especially when…oh what is her name again?” Ronan began to retort, of course he knew the name of the girl that James fancied, after all Ronan was friends with her. “Oh yeah that’s her name. You always show off especially when Aurora is around mate. I say that you fancy her don’t you?” He questioned his best mate. Ronan knew all about and had decided to that teasing his friend was something that was worth doing, especially today.
“SURPRISE!” Was all he heard as a flying squirrel transformed back into Carcer who then proceeded to fall and grabbed onto Ethan’s and his brooms and they all slowly made their way to the ground. “That was bloody brilliant you git. So repeating Ethan’s question how long did it take you to learn how to become an animagus?” Ronan said all of that in a cheerful tone. He was happy for his friend and he decided not to steal his friend’s thunder. Ronan had planned to show the guys his ability to do wandless magic but after that amazing display by Carcer it could definitely wait for another time.
