Maria had been in a foul mood ever since that failed date with Viola. She'd been more irritable and short tempered then ever. Apparently Viola had more of an affect on Maria then she'd first thought. Basically, fighting with Viola was bad on her mood. But at the same time she was also far to stubborn for her own good, and was refusing to apologize. Even days later! So here she was, still angry, still frustrated at everything, and avoiding Viola like the plague.
Until she finally had an idea. To try and make it better. It might be a stupid idea, but at least she was going to try. They'd just finished a potion in one of her classes so it wasn't hard to sneak out a small vial of the completed potion at the end. Nor was it hard to find Viola, when she made an effort. Thankfully Viola was alone in the Great Hall when Maria found them. Without any hesitation she pulled the vial out of her pocket and set it on the table in front of them. "I wouldn't lie to you, Viola. But if you ever doubt me again just use that." It wouldn't take a genius to figure out what Maria had just given Viola. Veritaserum.

The Great Hall was rarely as empty as it was at that moment. Viola didn’t like being alone all that much – when no one was around, they had no one to watch, and then they felt…weird. Uneasy. They didn’t fidget often, but then they were alone? They fidgeted like crazy. It didn’t help that they hadn’t been in the best mood. Ever since the failed date with Maria, she had been avoiding them, and Viola couldn’t help but feel like they had failed. They hadn’t officially broken up with Maria, but Viola couldn’t help but feel like that was on the horizon.
When Viola heard Maria’s voice, they jumped a little in their seat. They glanced at the vial on the table, which looked like it was just full of water, but then focused their gaze on Maria instead. “If you aren’t going to lie to me, then why would I need this?” Viola asked. They still weren’t entirely sure that that was the truth, but maybe that was emotions clouding their normal clarity at distinguishing the fact from the fiction. Viola grabbed the bottle off the table, and held it out to their girlfriend. “Take it. If I have to force you to tell you the truth, then we shouldn’t be together.” If they were better at this whole relationship thing, they probably would have started a conversation about the betrayal they had felt that day at Hogsmeade, but Viola, like Maria, wasn’t the best at showing feelings.

"Even if I tell you the truth that doesn't mean you'll believe me." Maria slowly explained as she sat down at the table across from Viola. She propped her elbows on the table and rested her chin in her hands. Why Maria wanted Viola to believe her... Well, who knew. But who knew why Maria did anything that involved Viola. Viola was a contradiction to all of Maria's behavior. When the bottle was offered back, Maria didn't move to take it, instead she shook her head and looked away. "No. Keep it, toss it. I don't care. But that's my promise that I will always tell you the truth. I have nothing to hide from you, Viola, and I want you to know that." Ugh, what was with all this... Slightly sentimental openness lately? Maria felt like she needed to go set someone on fire just to try to get some of her reputation back. Looking back at her partner Maria smiled just a little. "And just so you know it was because I hugged a friend." The reason she'd smelled like cologne that day. A simple hug.

Viola nodded when Maria said that they wouldn’t necessarily believe her even if she was telling the truth. “Then I’m a shitty partner, I guess.” They said. Relationships ought to have an innocent until proven guilty policy, Viola thought, unless there was real, substantial evidence otherwise. They had violated that rule pretty damn quickly. Maria didn’t take the bottle back, and Viola’s eyebrows narrowed when their girlfriend said that they could do whatever they wanted with it. They felt bad letting a potion that was so difficult to brew go to waste, but if Maria was going to be making grand gestures about trust, then Viola figured they ought to get a grand gesture in as well. So they took the vial, and, without ceremony, dropped it onto the floor of the Great Hall. The vial was cracked, but not totally broken, so Viola swung themself around so that they could stomp the heel of their shoe against it, crushing the glass and sending the potion spilling all over the floor. The charms on the floor whisked the liquid and the glass away immediately, and Viola turned back to Maria. “If you want my trust, you have it.” They said simply. When the admission about why Maria had smelled strange came, Viola didn’t move. “I…want to hug you.” That was probably the closest Viola was ever going to get to saying that they wanted Maria to be theirs, not just in name, but in…everything. They wanted to know Maria the way they knew themself, wanted the two of them to be heart-to-heart in more ways than one.

Maria smirked a little as Viola called themselves a shitty partner. "I think you're a pretty good one." Maria softly admitted, soft enough that it was just as likely that Viola didn't even hear her if they weren't listening close enough. To be honest though? They were also Maria's first partner, so she didn't have anyone to compare them too.
The dark haired girl was silent as she watched Viola. Waiting to see what they might do. One thing that Maria likes about Viola was how unpredictable they were. Though at times like this it made her clueless to what they might do. So when the bottle was smashed? Maria's eyes widened and her mouth gapped open ever so slightly. Breaking it so flamboyantly hadn't crossed her mind. And when they turned back to her and spoke? Maria slowly smiled, her eyes softening from their usual confident roaring to a warm glow. It was a soft look, shockingly so for her. "I'm sorry, for getting mad before and not explaining it." She could be a hot headed idiot after all...
Inching off the bench she'd taken across from Viola she moved to sit next to them and lightly slip her arms around their waist.

Viola was glad now, more than ever, that they always were paying attention, because they knew that if they had let their focus wander, they wouldn’t have heard what Maria just said. It was moments like these, moments of surprising softness and warmth, that made Viola think that maybe, being in a relationship with Maria wasn’t a lost cause. “Thanks.” They responded, voice slightly louder than Maria’s had been so that there would be no question about whether or not their girlfriend had heard their gratitude.
Maria was a fire, Viola knew, but right now she was less like a wildfire and more like a hearth fire, warm but not uncomfortable, and oh-so-inviting. “It’s fine. I shouldn’t have made assumptions, so I’m sorry for that.” Viola said after Maria had apologized. This was weird – they couldn’t imagine Maria resolving a fight like this, so calmly. Hell, Viola couldn’t imagine themself solving a fight like this! When Maria rounded the table to sit by them, Viola was half-expecting what happened next, but it didn’t make it any less enjoyable. Their arms snaked around Maria’s torso easily, and their nose nuzzled into Maria’s hair as they inhaled deeply. “We have a long, long way to go.” Viola breathed, more to themself than to Maria. There was so much that both of them needed to learn, as individuals and as partners. But it…could be okay.

Maria smiled a little wider as Viola responded. So they'd heard her. If anything Maria was the shitty partner. She was the one with the wandering eye and interest. Though she'd been doing her best to be a.... well a good girlfriend.d It was hard to be something when you didn't understand it fully. But she was trying. Trying was progress for Maria.
Oh, what a pair they must be. Raging hot, and then warm the next. An extremely unlikely pair. And yet Maria found herself wanting to do anything for her fellow Durmstrang. For just a moment of their attention. Yes, even if it meant apologizing, somethign Maria rarely did. Even turning down the sexual tension notch. So, when Viola returned the embrace Maria tightened her own arms and lightly traced circles on their waiste. "At least it'll be interesting?" Was Maria's own soft answer.

Whenever Maria was around, it seemed like Viola’s sense of touch was magnified tenfold. They wondered if it was the product of the Veela charm or the natural magnetism between the two, but no matter the cause, it tended to be a little bit distracting. Most of the time Viola could tune it out enough to be a functional human being, but the tiny circles that Maria was drawing on their waist were taking most of their function, so much so that Viola had to replay what Maria had said in their head several times before answering. “I don’t think any time with you could be uninteresting.” Viola responded easily. “Do you want to…do something?” They suggested. They weren’t really sure what the pair of them could do, especially since hugging while doing it limited their options, but maybe that would make it easier to just…talk. Only after following that line of thought did Viola realize that ‘do something’ could have sexual undertones, and they hoped that that wasn’t where Maria’s mind had gone, too.

Maria chuckled softly under her breath. Oh, interesting was practically her middle name. Interesting and exciting. There was never a dull moment when she was around, good or bad. As for what they could do... Well... That was the question, wasn't it? Maria tilted her head as she thought, letting her nose brush against the crook of their neck. "Like what?" She whispered, her breath against their skin. Typically when Maria was posed that sort of question she suggested something that usually involved a secluded spot with little to no clothing. But this was Viola. While Maria was extremely attracted to them, she also wouldn't push them. Not until they were ready. So.... something more light hearted, perhaps? "Maybe... go for a walk with me? I've missed your company the past few days."

Honestly, Viola had no idea what sort of thing the pair of them could get up to. They were hoping to think of something to keep Maria from inevitable suggesting something sexual, but Viola was honestly drawing a blank. They were surprised that, when she spoke again, Maria did suggest anything that required Viola to lose any of their clothing. Instead, she offered the idea of a walk. “Walk sounds good to me.” Viola said, pulling away from Maria. “Guess it’s kind of hard to walk and hug, though.” They said, slowly unwrapping one of their arms from around Maria, though they kept the other one firmly around her waist, since it was still possible to walk that way. “I’m interested in hearing more about this friend of yours.” Viola said as they stood up. “You should tell him that his cologne smells awful.” They added. It hadn’t actually smelled that bad, but Viola figured that any male scent smelled worse when it was all over their girlfriend.

Viola just pulled away. Being so physically attuned Maria felt immensely dissatisfied by the idea of losing physical contact with her partner. Thankfully it wasn't total lose in contact, at least Viola kept one arm around her waist. Maria would settle for that. "But not impossible." Maria answered. She should probably pull away now, at least enough so that they could both stand. Before she did though, Maria lightly brushed her lips against Viola's neck. Hey, she couldn't totally pass up a chance like that, could she? When she straightened she flashed Viola a grin.
"Really? I thought it cologne was quite nice." Ofcourse that was Maria's answer as they stood up, Maria letting her fingertips grazing against Viola's hand. "What do you want to know about him?"

Maria answered that it wouldn’t be impossible for the two of them to hug and walk, and they nodded pensively. “I don’t think that anything is impossible, with the two of us.” They were both the kind of person who liked to prove other people wrong. Or at least, Viola was, even though they wouldn’t ever admit others’ opinions were her motivation. Viola shook their head a little at Maria’s grin after she kissed their neck. The good wasn’t good at keeping her hands to herself…which was actually nicer than Viola was going to admit.
“Too…earthy for me.” Viola said with a wrinkle of their nose. They actually couldn’t remember much about the scent, other than that they didn’t like it, so they really hoped that earthy was an appropriate adjective. Part of them, the jealous part, wanted to know which scent Maria would prefer, but they weren’t sure they wanted to open that can of worms so soon after they had made up. “Well, what’s his name? How’d you meet him?” He had to be a relatively new acquaintance – Maria hadn’t ever said anything about a friend before.

Earthy? Had it been earthy? Maria had to think about it for a moment. "Well... It was a little earthy." Maria finally agreed. "What scents do you prefer then?" Now that was a question that Maria was curious to know the answer of. And once she knew... Hopefully Maria had a perfume to match.
"Samuel." First answer, done. He'd told her his last name once, but it was currently escaping her. As for how they'd met... Maria would have shrugged if they weren't walking and Viola's arm weren't still around her waist. "I used him to avoid an annoying Hogwarts boy in November. Kept running into him every Hogsmeade trip since." Unintentionally she'd given away more information then she'd intended. Like how she only saw him during Hogsmeade trips. Which meant he wasn't a student like them.

Maria agreed that the scent had been earthy, which was all that Viola cared about at the moment. When Maria asked what scents they preferred, there was surprisingly little hesitation in Viola’s voice. “Saltwater and sand. I like it when I can smell the ocean.” They answered easily. “What about you?” They asked. “What makes you tic?” Viola was hoping that the answer was closer to the ocean than to land, but if it wasn’t…They could adjust. Maybe.
All of Maria’s answers were just giving Viola more questions, and they hoped that Maria was going to keep complying as easily as she was now. “Who were you trying to avoid?” They asked, unsure whether or not that was important to the story. “And how old is this Samuel person?” If Maria only saw him at Hogsmeade, logic followed that he was already graduated. Either that, or Maria was too lazy to go find him, which didn’t fit with the store of them being friends.

Viola was a child of the ocean, without a doubt. The saltwater and sand should have surprised her, but it didn't, not really. "The ocean in a bottle." Such a stark contrast to her fire. Interesting. "As long as it's strong.... I like it most the time." Maria admitted. For some reason she liked to have her senses overwhelmed. To link specific, strong smells to individuals.
"Some... fifth or sixth year. I can't even remember anymore. He was an idiot, and Samuel was a good decoy." Maria wasn't sure if Viola was curious out of boredom, or if they were curious because they were jealous... "He's Twenty-five." She answered just as casually as before. "And he works at the Ministry." She continued, offering up that piece of information solely because it went hand in hand with his age.
