It had taken James a few days to think of how he wanted to speak to his fellow Marauders. They had lost one of their own and it was bound to be a hard time for all of them. James at first had been almost afraid to face any of the rest of his friends. When he had seen the way Alice looked at him when they both heard the news... he couldn't take someone else looking at him like that. And he couldn't handle having to see his friends just as sad as he was. But James had finally found the courage to owl one of them, and the first person he thought to reach out to was Finn. He worked with Abby in the Auror-in-training program so since they graduated, Finn had seen her the most and had to be taking it pretty hard. He had asked Finn to meet him at the Leaky Cauldron so they could talk. So that's where James was. It was his off day (not that it mattered, he had called out so much the last few days,) so James was looking around the inn wondering where Alice may be or if she was out with the Hagrid. He wondered briefly how she was taking this. Then he saw the door open and he actually felt his breath catch in anticipation for his friend to walk through the door.

Finn had not dealt with grief in his almost nineteen years on this planet. His grandfather had died when he was four, but the other three were still living. The only time that he had come close to feeling some sort of grief was the days in which Rai was missing, and he did not know if she was alive or dead. Now that had changed; Abigail Shacklebolt, one of his closest friends and comrades in mischief was dead. Killed by none other than Elaine Dupree. Finn had had the glimmer of worry in the back of his mind when he’d been told that Abby was with Claire Slater when Desirae Rousseau had been killed, but he never thought it would have come to this. Theo Nott was dead too, but Finn didn’t care much about him other than the fact that he knew Abby had enjoyed his company. His way of dealing with this was pushing everything down, creating a laser focus on the task at hand which was preventing Elaine from disrupting the students’ lives at Hogwarts. He had wanted to transfer back to London after he’d received word Abby had been killed, but it had been denied; if anything they wanted MORE Aurors at Hogwarts now.
When James had asked to meet him at the Leaky Cauldron, Finn of course had accepted, but had no idea how it was going to be coming face to face with one of his other closest friends. They had all seen each other at Abby’s funeral of course, but they had all been with their families or significant others (or both) and hadn’t had much time to speak to each other. Now they would have as much time as they needed, even though Finn had no idea what to say. He stepped through the door and immediately spotted James. His heart dropped as he saw the boys’ face - he looked like he had been to hell and back several times over. Without saying a word, Finn crossed over to James and wrapped him in a big bear hug. Sometimes words couldn’t express what they wanted to say, and Finn honestly didn’t care if passerbys were curious on why two men were hugging it out. He clapped James on the back, still not letting go.
