overall personality:
When you first meet Iggy, he will more than likely come off as... a jerk. Iggy is very blunt, and not always in the nicest of ways. His mouth gets him into trouble more often than not. He is, in the simplest of terms, a "smart ass." His blunt comments about how bad your hair looks or how your answer on your homework is sooo wrong don't exactly earn him a lot of friends. But, that's honestly how Iggy prefers it. He doesn't necessarily enjoy the company of others, unless they can match his wit or at least handle his sarcasm and not take his often rude comments straight to heart. It's not always a personal thing, honestly; Iggy just has no filter whatsoever.
It's actually astounding how Iggy didn't end up in Ravenclaw. He's incredibly intelligent and has what muggles call a "photographic memory." His ability to retain information after reading it helped him skip a grade in grade school and also earned him a private tutor to be taught at a higher subject level. Reading and learning new things always fascinated Ichabod greatly, but he found a true passion for creating things. The feeling of success he always got was a nice one, and is also another reason as to why he can be so very competitive sometimes. Being the middle child, he didn't get a lot of attention as a kid (until he became a wizard) so he really hates being ignored or overshadowed. He'll often get a little jealous if someone seems smarter than him, too, (little is an understatement.) Iggy can get really jealous. And since Iggy is the type to hide his feelings, he will usually not let it show - which is always a recipe for disaster, as Iggy has quite the temper and bottling up one's feelings doesn't really help with that.
While it may seem like Iggy is some tough, cigarette-smoking, coffee loving, bad boy - he isn't really. It's just a front; but you'd never hear him say that. Iggy is fiercely loyal to those close to him. He is close to very few, however. Iggy doesn't just befriend anyone, though. He doesn't necessarily have trust issues so much as he just doesn't like very many people. Iggy would do anything for his family, which is probably his only weakness. And as far as soft spots go, that's probably his only one. Until some girl comes along, that is.

history:
Ichabod was the second child born to muggles Thatcher and Kimberly Nash in 2008. Kim and Thatch weren't sure why exactly they chose the name Ichabod for their perfectly normal son, but it was something that would annoy the son in his later years. Kim and Thatcher already had a boy, Jeremiah, who was about four at the time of Iggy's birth. For the first few years of Iggy's young life, it was boringly normal. But the Nash family didn't know what NOT normal was. The Nash boys were like any other muggle brothers, playing together and getting in fights all the time. Iggy from a young age liked to build and create things. Like any other toddler, he would make mud pies and pizzas and try to serve them to his parents. Thatcher was working as a muggle accountant and Kimberly was a stay-at home mother. Things were normal in the Nash family until around three years later. Kimberly was expecting her third child. Iggy was three, and Jere was seven. Kim was a happy, expecting mother and with so many distractions, it was no surprise that the family didn't see what was coming next.
For quite a while before Kim was expecting, Thatch just seemed distant. From Iggy's standpoint, it just seemed like he had sort of a detached father. He never heard his parents fight, and things were seemingly normal. But when Kim was eight months pregnant with her third child, she got a call from the authorities one night explaining that Thatch, who had "gone away for business," was discovered in the river. His body. Iggy's father committed suicide when Iggy was only three. Thatch never showed any signs of depression but he was. Iggy to this day doesn't like to talk about his father. He still can't decide if he is more sad or angry about his father's death. It isn't something he opens conversations with.
The Nash family had to move on. Kim was too happy of a woman to let such grief overcome her. A month later, Mary Belle was born happy and healthy. Iggy was still too young to understand anything, but he could tell that his mother struggled the first few months after they welcomed Mary Belle into their lives. Jere was seven and was now the "man of the house" and at the ripe ages of twelve and nine, Jeremiah and Ichabod's own relationship started to suffer. Jeremiah felt the need to always help his mother and Iggy felt that his brother didn't want to make time to spend with him anymore, and Iggy was lonely. With no brother time and no father, Iggy grew more and more sad and he began spending more time alone and making things. He would create things out of sticks and mud in the yard and when he could, he would get his hands on wood and harder materials. It was how he found happiness and solace during the rough times. Jeremiah and Iggy's relationship did not improve, especially since Jere was four years older than Iggy and already a teenager by the time Iggy was ten. Jere became interested in girls and getting a job to help their mother. So, Iggy was left alone. Iggy didn't care to make many friends because from a very young age, he had always been told he was too smart for his age range. The teachers would constantly put him with tutors outside of his classes because they saw that he had more potential. So alone was how Iggy spent most of his childhood.
Being alone all the time, Iggy had plenty of time to focus on himself and his own thoughts. But never in a million years did Iggy expect what happened to him to ever happen.
Iggy was ten when Jere came home one day, at age fourteen, smelling like cigarettes and alcohol. Of course Kim knew immediately what scent was on her eldest son. Jeremiah had always taken Thatcher's death particularly hard, and had struggled in school and life because of it, but none of the Nash family saw it as this bad. Jere had been mixed up with the wrong crowd and gotten into some trouble. That night when he came home, he got into a screaming match with Kim and Iggy and Mary Belle had to endure it. When it got to the point of Kim being in tears, Iggy had to step in. Iggy didn't know how, but he remembered wishing that his brother would just shut up and then he did. Jeremiah couldn't open his mouth. Initially in shock, Kim then thought her son was joking. But even Kim tried to pry open her son's mouth. Iggy didn't know how, but he knew Jeremiah's mouth seeming to sew shut was because of him.
There were a few smaller, odd things that had happened here and there over the course of the next year but then one day an owl showed up to the house. It frightened Kim at first and Jeremiah tried to scare it away, but it wouldn't leave. Then Mary Belle saw the envelope with Ichabod's name on it. That was the fateful day that Iggy found out he was a wizard. It was definitely a concept that Kim had to wrap her head around; and after a few fainting spells she finally did. Mary Belle was overjoyed, of course, thinking it was the coolest thing. And Jeremiah... didn't speak to Ichabod. Iggy didn't blame his brother though; he figured finding out your brother was some sort of sorcerer was hard enough to deal with. Iggy went with his mother and his sister to Diagon Alley to get all of his things and for once in his life, Ichabod felt excited for what was to come. He immediately began reading during the summer to catch up on all of the things he had ever missed from the wizarding world. There was so much to take in! And Ichabod was ready to be a part of it.
Iggy was sorted into Slytherin house. At first, life at Hogwarts proved to be a lot like life in muggle school. Iggy didn't know how to make friends, much less friends with wizards and witches, so he spent a lot of time alone during his first year. He immersed himself in his studies. But being away from home for so long, he missed a lot there too. Jeremiah was off the deep end. He got involved in the wrong crowds and even ended up in juvie. Kim was at a loss, and at that point, the Nash family all kind of agreed that Jere was a lost cause. When Iggy went home the summer after his second year, Jere was home for once and they had never spent so much time fighting in their lives. Iggy found himself always looking forward to going back to Hogwarts, even if it meant leaving his mother and his sister with having to deal with Jere and his problems.
When Iggy entered his teenage years, he became a lot less tolerant of peoples' issues. Maybe it was because of all the issues he had to deal with at home; maybe it was because he didn't see why kids who had it so good still found so much to complain about. Either way, it still wasn't the best way to make friends. But with all of his time spent reading all of these books and studying and thinking of new things to make, Iggy didn't really care to make friends. He developed a very blunt and honest attitude and never developed any filter to stop himself from what he was saying. Iggy was still just as smart, and would read ahead in almost all of his classes which usually landed him in more trouble than anything. Due to a lot of his time spent alone and reading, Iggy developed a complex in which he believed he was smarter than his peers. So he will almost always patronize people with a sarcastic attitude. But does Iggy see this as an issue? Nope.
Iggy leads a fairly normal muggleborn life in a relatively normal muggle family, but last year frightened him - of course, he'd never admit it though. When word got out that muggleborns were being killed, Iggy tried to just lay as low as possible. He spent a lot of time studying and was actually not as sarcastic or snippy as usual. How was he supposed to know who the killer was? Fortunately for him, he was never sought out or attacked. He supposed he had his Slytherin status to thank for that. But others weren't so lucky. His mother was terrified and almost didn't allow him to come back to school for his sixth year, but Iggy was a mature and responsible young man who was luckily able to convince his mother otherwise. Iggy is also too smart to not realize that there is something bigger being planned out there. Does that mean he particularly cares? No, not really.
