THE SECOND TASK OF THE TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT
@emile, @jill6, @annelise
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament, where the Champions will be tested not only on their bravery but their friendship and loyalty to magical creatures big and small. This Task is not similar to any of the Tasks ever seen before; you will individually face three separate arenas, all of completely different terrains and climates before entering the arena which has been set to the indigenous habitat of your magical creature. If you have safely gotten your creature through the first three arenas, then he or she will take you to their nest, where a jewel representing your school - purple for Hogwarts, red for Durmstrang and blue for Beauxbatons - is being guarded by the creatures family. If they deem you a friend, you will be allowed to retrieve the gem and leave relatively unscathed. If not...well, use your imagination.
EXPLANATION
As stated, you will each be facing the arenas individually; this is not a race like in the maze. For moving along the task however, there will be three separate threads (one for each of you) so you do not have to wait for one champion to finish before being able to start. For In Character purposes, the order of Champions is as follows:
1. Elias Greyback
2. Molly Weasley
3. Emile Chevalier
Each thread will consist of FIVE In Character Posts - your introduction and heading into the arena, plus your champion getting through all four arenas. Each one of your posts will be judged and given a score of 1-10, which will determine how your champion fares in the next post. You will be judged on the following areas:
Word Count, Description, Readibility, Character/Creature Interaction, Feeling (how much we can tell what your Champion is thinking and feeling at that moment)
Once you have your score, your next arena will be described to you, and you will have to get across it in order to get to the next part. At the end of the four arenas, all five of your scores will be totaled up for a total possible 50 points, which will determine the winner of the Second Task.
SCORING
As mentioned, after each post you will receive a score of 1-10 on the above factors, which will be posted along with the description of your next arena. Here is how your score will affect how you fare in the arena:
1-3: Your creature get badly injured during your trek across the arena
4-6: it takes a LOT of effort for you to clear the arena and you get injured
7-9: It takes a good deal of effort, but you clear relatively unscathed
10: You are able to clear the arena completely unscathed, and earn more trust from your creature
After the introductory post, you will be judged on how well you follow your score, and could potentially be docked points for not following them.
WORD COUNT & TIMING
You may (definitely) have noticed that one of the scoring components is on word count. Yes, you will be subject to an escalating word count throughout your five posts, and I will be counting to ensure this is followed -- any less than the below word count will be docked points.
Post 1 (Introductory Post): 250 Words
Post 2 (First Arena): 500 words
Post 3 (Second Arena): 650 words
Post 4 (Third Arena): 800 words
Post 5 (Final Arena - Creatures Home): 1,000 words
There will also be a time limit for when you can get these posts up, as shown below. This will be FROM the post describing the arena (or in the introductory post case, the first post from Hermione):
Post 1 (Introductory Post): 36 hours
Post 2 (First Arena): 72 hours
Post 3 (Second Arena): 4 days
Post 4 (Third Arena): 5 days
Post 5 (Final Arena - Creatures Home): 1 week
If the post is not posted in the time limit, you will lose points.
INCENTIVES & REWARDS
As mentioned in the First Steps post, by posting interactions with your creature, you receive reward incentives. You can trade them in for the following rewards:
-24 hours extra time
-100 extra words (for example you can write 900 for the last instead of 1,000)
-1 extra point on your score (can make the world of difference)
-Change of Arena (if you are having difficulty writing for your arena you can request ONCE to have it changed, but note that someone else will get that rejected arena)
Everyone started off with ONE reward; since all three of you did one shots, you each get a second. Since Molly had a thread that interacted with another character, she gets a third:
Molly Weasley - 3 Rewards
Emile Chevalier - 2 Rewards
Elias Greyback - 2 Rewards
Remember, use these wisely as you cannot get them back once they are used.
You will shortly be receiving a PM from me asking you to select a number 1-9; this will determine your first arena. After you've completed the post for that arena, you get to select another number, then a third. You will not be told what the arenas are beforehand; this will require you to think on your feet, and expect anything and everything.
Good luck to all of you, and remember the objective of this Task is to see your creature 'safely' home and in return take the school jewel they have been guarding for you back to your Head of School.
