It happened again. Another child. Killed. And on Hogwarts grounds this time. What was happening in the wizarding world? It was like they were falling into dark times once again. And what better thing was there to do when one was finally able to come to terms with that realization than break open a bottle of firewhiskey?
Sebastian kept a bottle in his lonely and quiet office for long nights like these. The Ministry had been busy all day at the news of yet another student being killed. Of course, it had not yet been released to the media, thank Merlin but the inital shock to the Ministry alone was enough to make Sebastian want to drink himself into a deep, deep sleep. He was slouched into his comfortable, maroon desk chair as he began to drink straight from the bottle. Seb wasn't a drinker, so he made a sort of disgusted face at the taste of the whiskey but at least it was going to do its job. Times were hard, indeed.
The Ministry had cleared out some time ago. Seb just did not feel like going home just yet. If only because of the hidden bottle of firewhiskey that he kept away from home for nights like these. The Minister was denying any sort of danger. Many were whispering that he would be another repeat of Cornelius Fudge and at first, Seb thought that everyone was wrong... that they should just give the man a chance. But only a short month or so had passed and Seb could see that things were going no where with the old man. As the Adviser to the Minister, it was Sebastian's job to advise him on decisions such as what to tell the media and the press. Seb had implored the Minister to go public with the second killing, but the man saw no need to worry the people of the wizarding world.
Seb shook his head as he laughed, sarcastically, to himself. "Yeah, right," he said aloud as he took another gulp of his whiskey, straight from the bottle.

Victoire had stayed late, as usual to finish up so more work. She called it finishing up but truthfully her projects were never ending and she was working on something 25/8. Which basically means she worked a lot more than she had to. She was a workaholic, and love every second of it for the most part. The times when it got dark were the hardest, though time really didn't exist easily at the ministry. One couldn't really see outside.
She crossed to her office window and banged her head against it, like she often did at this time or night (or morning, she wasn't sure what time it was). After a few moments of talking herself into not falling asleep. she looked up only to see that Sebastians light was on in his office. She smiled and opened her door slowly, making her way over to his.
It had been a rough day at the ministry, what with the second murder and all, so Vic wasn't surprised when she pushed the door open to see a bottle of whiskey in his hand. Though, she did note that it was a little strange considering she hadn't seen him drink very often. Vic wasn't much for drinking either, but after today she was somewhat relieved to see the bottle in such close proximity. She knocked lightly on the door before opening it all the way and stepping in. "Bonjour, Seb," she spoke softly, not wanting to startle him. "Need some company?"

Sebastian did not normally partake in the consumption of alcohol if only for one reason alone: he was... a light weight. Always had been. It did not take a lot for Seb to become inebriated, so if one ran into Seb with a drink in his hand, it was safe to assume that he was likely facing hard times. Then again, Seb also made a point to always drink from the safety of his office on late nights, where he was more likely to be alone.
Except for tonight.
"Bonjour, Seb," came a soft but familiar voice. Sebastian looked up. He wasn't at all startled by the voice, for he knew only one other individual would still be at work at these hours. And as his tired eyes gazed upon the young, blonde witch, Sebastian let a small smile appear on his face and he gestured at one of the chairs in front of his desk. "Ms. Weasley," he greeted her, his tone kind. "Please, sit down."
Sebastian normally would have stopped any other person from entering but Victoire Weasley was different. Although a witch, Seb saw a lot of himself in Ms. Weasley. She was very career driven and had landed herself quite the important job at such a young age. Seb was impressed by her. Not to mention a little charmed. While very young compared to the Adviser to the Minister, Sebastian still thought Victoire very attractive. And it wasn't just her looks that intrigued him. Her intelligence and personality had peaked Sebastian's interest long ago.
Realizing almost at once how rude it was to drink in front of a lady, Seb pulled out his wand and gave it a flick toward the dark mahogany cabinet against the wall of his office. The doors swung open and two glasses came slowly floating out of it and landed gingerly in front of Sebastian on his desk. "Care for a drink?" He asked, gesturing to one of the empty glasses.

A part of her wanted to sit down, relax and even put her feet up on his desk. That was how tired she was. But she also felt a tug at her stomach warning her to go home, or to get back to work. Nothing good ever came at this time of night with an attractive man and a bottle of alcohol. Even though he was quite a bit older than she, she couldn’t deny the fact that he was incredibly good looking. The word she would probably use was dashing though she’d never say it out loud.
She took his offer, however, to sit in the chair in front of his desk and smiled as she did so. ”Thank you,” she said with a sweet smile. She watched as the two glasses came floating from that cabinet, though her eye lingered on the mahogany for a moment. It truly was stunning. ”Tell me, where did you get that cabinet?” she asked, her admiration clearly bleeding into her tone.
Once he offered the drink, and gestured to the glasses, Victoire really felt that pull in her stomach again. It was late or early, or something. He was offering her a drink. She was tired, and he always looked handsome in his work clothes. She found herself nodding though, before her mind had even made a decision. She had no choice but to roll with it. ”Yes, please. Been one heck-of-a day, wouldn’t you say?” she asked, crossing her legs and leaning back into her chair, all with perfect posture.

Sebastian gave the young witch a smile and a nod as she accepted his offer and sat down in one of the chairs. He glanced up at her and followed her gaze up to the mahogany cabinet. ”Tell me, where did you get that cabinet?” At her tone, Seb could not help but let out a chuckle. Not many people came into his office, and the few that did never stopped to even look at his cabinet. "It was my grandmother's," he said fondly. "She had given it to me as a gift, as I had always enjoyed looking at her china as a boy..." he thought back to his grandmother and how he used to visit and spend time with her. She was a witch, of course. And the china had been enchanted to move, much like the wizard photographs that were so popular. Sebastian let out another chuckle. "Unfortunately, she gave the china to my sister," he said, lightly. He wasn't bitter, in fact it was probably better that his younger sister had inherited the china. Perhaps the Ministry wasn't exactly always a quiet enough place for china.
As Victoire accepted his second offer, Sebastian smiled softly and began to pour the whiskey into the two glasses, evenly. Part of him was glad she accepted, as she was a person whose company he enjoyed. But another part of him regretted asking... for it was quiet at the Ministry tonight and Victoire was a beautiful young witch. Seb blinked, realizing he had been blankly looking at her while she spoke. He quickly looked down at the glasses in front of him and took a quiet, deep breath. "Oh, yes," he sighed. "Especially with this old fool running the place," Seb gestured with his eyes to the wall opposite the cabinet, the wall which held the Minister's office just next door. Thankfully, the Minister had gone home long ago so there was no chance of him hearing his employees speak ill of him.
Sebastian took both glasses into his hands and gingerly handed Victoire one of them. "Tell me, Ms. Weasley," he said, then leaning back into his desk chair. "You are enjoying the position so far?" He raised his eyebrows curiously at her but smiled, for he was sure he knew the answer. It was not hard to see how much Victoire really cared about her job but Seb was just making small talk... and that was something he never really did. This was the best way he knew how.

Victoire chuckled softly at his sweet story about the china cabinet, "so, you're saying the china was in the cabinet?" she smiled at the thought of a younger Sebastian admiring his grandmothers china with a smile on his face. She could easily imagine him as a younger man, he didn't look old to her by any means. "I'm sure you're sister enjoys the china as well, and at least you can admire it when you visit her," Victoire tore her eyes away from the cabinet to study Sebastians expression. He seemed contemplative and slightly amused, but it was clear that he was still bothered by something. Whatever it had been to drive him to drink. Though, she knew it could be a number of things collectively, that's what was pushing her to sit in his office in the middle of the night. All of the things that were going on were enough to drive any one person crazy, it was better to have company to prevent that.
Victoire smiled and gave a small chuckle as he gestured to the ministers office. "That is very true," she agreed. She knew the minster wouldn't be there, he never stayed as late as the rest of them. Just another clue pointing to the fact that the minster didn't care what was going on in the wizarding world. Was that it? Was he just careless or was he a coward? Victoires time spent with him had proved both to be true. He was everything Victoire didn't respect, and none of the things she did. The thought of him made her blood boil. She would do a much better job in his position. Then a small thought hit her. The minster was gone, and almost everyone else was too. The only two people, at least in this hall, that she knew to be her where sitting in this very office. Her stomach did another flip, and her mind tugged at her to think twice about taking that drink.
She reached forward and gently clasped the glass, barely grazing his fingers with hers and she did so. As he leaned back, raising an eyebrow but a smile playing at his lips, she couldn't help but find him attractive. Since day one she had thought he was a good looking man, but work was always more important. If it wasn't then she would've stayed with... she felt a piercing pain in her heart for a moment, and looked away from Sebastian. After a moment to compose herself, she looked back up at him. "It's been very... eventful. I respect the things I've learned from DW and you, Sebastian," she smiled as she looked into her glass, spinning the whiskey in circles. "I am quite sure this is where I belong. At least, in this hall," she smirked. It was no secret that Victoire thought about running for Minister of Magic one day. She was often mocked for her dream, but that didn't mean she kept it a secret.
She brought the cup to her lips and ignored the thoughts to stop. She started with a small sip and pulled away quickly. She wasn't much of a drinker, which mean she'd probably be an incredible light weight. She glanced up at him and bit her bottom lip as she chuckled, "my lack of experience with alcohol proves just how much of a social life I lack because of this place."

Sebastian smiled to himself at the thought of the china now at his sister's home, with her two children. His niece and nephew were just as taken with the china as he was. "True," he said, seeming to come out of a sort of trance. "It can be admired by more at her house anyway," he added, thinking about how he would be the only one to gaze upon them if he had inherited them. He supposed they were "in a better place," so to speak.
As much as Sebastian was really beginning to dislike the Minister, he didn't want to speak of him. After all, he was techinically what had brought him to drink tonight. And Seb didn't want to be tempted to drink more than he already was. Although, a part of him was silently thanking the Minister he had driven him to stay late... as it had brought Ms. Weasley to his office.
As the young blonde witch barely grazed her fingers with his own, Sebastian felt a shiver go up his arm and down his spine. He made sure to not let anything surprising register on his face as he watched Victoire spin the whiskey in its glass. He thought he had seen some other type of emotion cross her facial features; one of hurt. But it was not his place to ask or point it out so he decided to instead to pretend he had not noticed. "I'm glad to hear that, Ms. Weasley," he gave her a nod. "You are quite the exceptional and talented young witch, you know," Seb lifted his glass to her as if to toast before taking a sip himself.
Sebastian watched the young lady with a little smile as she took a quick sip of her whiskey. When she pulled the glass away and chuckled, Seb couldn't help but chuckle along with her. "Trust me, I know what you mean," he spun his own glass in his hand. "I'm not much of a drinker myself." He, too, looked into his glass a moment. "That's an upside to working here, I'll admit. You don't have much time to develop a liking for the drink but sometimes the job'll drive you to it." He glanced back up at Victoire for a moment but when his eyes met hers, he looked back into his glass.

"Oh? She doesn't live alone, I'm assuming?" Victoire thought about what that must be like. Of course, she grew up with her parents and her siblings, but she had been on her own for a while now. It was nice, having her own space. The thought of living with other people as an adult... the idea puzzled her for a moment. She was barely at her apartment as it was, what would it be like to have a family there? People that she actually had to come home to instead of just staying up in the middle of the night, drinking with a coworker. The idea was just plain absurd. At least at this stage in her life.
Vic smiled at his compliment and lifted her own glass to take another small sip. ”Well, thank you,” she said after she lowered the glass. ”You are pretty exceptional too,” she said. She meant it too, she had always admired is skill in magic and in politics. It was one of the reasons she trusted him. He had proved his worth in his position. She knew she had proved hers too, he was only validating her own beliefs about herself, but it was... flattering coming from him.
”It’s a bit ironic,” she laughed, ”what you just said. About the job not giving time to develop the habit but you can eventually end up there anyway. It’s a vicious cycle.” She contemplated, perhaps a little too much, the deepness of what he was saying. Her thoughts were interrupted by his making eye contact but soon looking back into his glass. ”Is something the matter?” she started reaching her hand toward him, as if she were going to console him with a touch. Which was odd, Victoire was rarely a physical being. At least not with coworkers. Her hand stopped and she dropped it lightly onto the desk in between them. She almost suggested that they go somewhere more comfortable but that could only have been the alcohol thinking. She wasn’t drunk enough to actually suggest it. Yet.

At the thought of his sister, niece, and nephew, Sebastian nodded and chuckled fondly. "Yes, Isobel has two of her own," he said, thinking happily of his niece and nephew whom he loved very much. Then he thought about something else... how odd it was that he had just opened up about a very personal and dear subject to him... to a coworker. Now that was absurd. Then again, Victoire was easier to talk to than most. She was a very grounded young woman, and Seb could see that. That was probably why he had just opened up to her without giving it a second thought.
As Victoire lifted her own glass, Seb found himself smiling at her... for a needlessly long moment. A moment too long, to be exact. Sebastian didn't normally take many compliments to heart, as he thought the opinions of others mattered very little to him - even if they were good opinions. But Victoire's opinion of him? For some reason, Seb was finding that it mattered a great deal to him. It had to be because she was just a good coworker that he respected though... right?
"Is something the matter?" Sebastian blinked, looking quickly back up at Victoire just as she dropped her hand lightly onto his desk. For a brief moment Seb looked at her hand, a small part of him wanting to take hold of it. But why? Surely that was the alcohol talking, for he would never have relations with a coworker!
Then again...
Sebastian looked back at Victoire, his lashes blinking once more over his eyes. "Oh no," he let out a sigh. "I just... don't often drink that much. 'Suppose I'm a bit of a light weight," he chuckled at himself. It wasn't necessarily a lie, but a part of him did feel like he was lying... just a little.

Victoire smiled at the thought of Sebastian interacting with nieces and nephews, the thought made him seem more human almost. "Do you get along well with the children?" she asked. Better to confirm that he did indeed like the children before just assuming such. The fact that he chuckled and smiled at the mention of them was a good clue that he enjoyed them, but she couldn't be sure. Why did it matter anyway? She didn't know, but she found herself caring about his personal life. That was strange. Victoire cared about her coworkers, sure, but not usually enough to care about things going on in their own lives. But she found herself wanting to know his story. Someone his age, unmarried, with no children and a hard worker... he was proving to be someone she was very interested in, and not just for work purposes.
The thought confused her a little, but she was pulled out of it by noticing that he was smiling at her as she took a drink. It was a... different kind of smile. Not really one that you would normally give a coworker. Not one of office respect or admiration, but something else. Something along those lines but a lot more personal. Oh, she was probably just reading into things. She needed to snap out of it.
But the harder she tried to snap out of it, the further in she felt she was getting.
When he answered her question, his answer left her wanting more. Sure, that was probably all that was bothering him. But part of her didn't want to believe it. She wanted him to say something more. Something more personal. She was definitely being affected by the alcohol now. Before she spoke again, she took another drink and emptied her glass. She had a feeling it was going to be a long night. "That, my dear Sebastian," she said, pushing her empty glass towards him slowly, "is something we have in common." She cocked an eyebrow at him, feeling a slight buzzing in the back of her mind.
She suddenly wanted to laugh, but suppressed it by settling on a smile instead. She found herself leaning a little forward toward him, her hand still resting gently on the desk.

A genuine smile graced Sebastian's face when the blonde witch asked if he got along well with the children. "Oh, yes," he said, letting out yet another chuckle. That was something Seb rarely did around others... laugh or chuckle... He leaned back into his chair. "I love them as if they were my own, really," he said truthfully. It was true. His sister's children were like his own in the fact that he would drop everything to help them if they needed it. And they were some of the only people Seb would actually do that for. It was a tight bond he had with his niece and nephew. "In short..." he hesitated a moment, looking for the right words to say before settling on "They are my world." He looked back up at Victoire, smiling at the thought of his family.
As Sebastian watched Victoire, he found that his eyes met hers once again. What was she thinking? All he could think about was what could possibly going on in that head of hers as she looked at him. He wanted to ask her, but Seb was much to shy a person to ask. Well, it wasn't that Sebastian was necessarily a shy person all around, but rather he was shy around attractive women. And he found Victoire to be very attractive.
Just as Victoire was taking another drink, Sebastian did the same, also emptying his glass. He watched as she pushed her glass slowly toward him. He glanced down at the glass then up at her. As Victoire cocked an eyebrow at him, Seb felt the overwhelming urge to tell her just how beautiful he thought she was. But he was only one drink in, and still had the right mind to stop himself from doing so.
Sitting back up in his chair, Sebastian reached for the bottle of firewhiskey on his desk. He now cocked an eyebrow at Miss Weasley, feeling rather flirtatious himself... and that was unusual for the Advisor. "Another drink...? Miss Weasley?" He said slowly, his eyes locked on her own. While he still had the right mind to stop himself from speaking what he was thinking, he found that he could not stop himself from averting his eyes now.

She was surprised with herself. The fact that she was so interested in his relationship with his nieces and nephews was a foreign feeling. Sure, kids were fine but she never really spent time with many. Unless you counted her cousin but the youngest was what... Fifteen? That didn't really count as a child anymore. Vic found herself smiling softly as he as he spoke of his feelings for them. "It shows," she nodded, "your eyes change when you talk about them. They sort of... Light up?" It was a silly thing to say but she didn't know how else to explain it. She found herself licking her lip a little followed by biting it lightly when he offered her more to drink. His eyebrow was cocked which made him look... dangerous? But not in a way that she felt like getting her wand out and hexing him. No, out was something... Better. Maybe dangerous wasn't even the right word. Something was different in the way he said it. Was he... No. No, he wasn't flirting with her. On the other hand... She was pretty sure she was flirting with him. In answer to his offer all she did was nod, lost in her thoughts. Then she snapped back quickly and suddenly when she realized how far forward she had been leaning while she started. But, wasn't he starting too? She tried to sit up straight and smiled, "Only if your willing to spare some more, and possibly walk me home after." The comment was entirely innocent, seeing as it really would be foolish to walk home alone drunk. She had meant to chuckle after that statement, but the sound never came. Instead she found herself continuing to stare into his eyes, and he wasn't looking away either. She had always admired him, of course, but she never really took the time to admire him. New thoughts were pouring into her mind... Well, maybe they weren't entirely new. @sebastian "don't dull the sparkle in your eyes"

Sebastian rarely opened up around others, specifically coworkers. He had a thick line drawn between he and all of his coworkers and really did not care to befriend any of them honestly. But with Victoire... it was different. He found himself actually wanting to tell her these personal things about his family, which was a completely new thing for him. But at the same time it came so naturally that he hardly even thought about it. That and it also may have been the alcohol taking effect, but still. When Victoire complimented his eyes lighting up, Seb looked over at the cabinet and chuckled again. Her compliment embarrassed him only slightly but in the best of ways.
He finally turned to look back at her. "Thank you," he said, his voice trailing off when he gazed upon her. The witch was licking her lip and Sebastian couldn't help but take in a short breath. His eyebrows were raised only slightly, but he didn't look suprised. Victoire was... stunning, to say the least. Sebastian supposed he had just never seen her in this light before... or with alcohol. He was too lost looking at the blonde to realize how close they were leaning over his desk. It wasn't terribly close. They still had a good portion of the desk between them and to onlookers it may have looked as if they were just discussing an important business matter but for Sebastian... this was intimate. This was close. Something Sebastian didn't let people do.
As Victoire sat up again so did Sebastian. He forced an awkward looking half smile at her as she smiled at him. Seb surprised himself with his next words. "I assure you I have no problem with either, Miss Weasley," his smile relaxed into a more natural one. He had to admit, the alcohol was really helping him relax. Any other time, Seb would be a cold hard-shelled man who would be hard to crack but he was letting Victoire in with ease and smiling and conversing easily with her. He didn't even take notice of how they were both looking into one another's eyes and neither one was looking away. Suddenly Seb felt an impulse. He tilted his head to the side to continue looking at Victoire. What was this desire he was feeling? It was almost as if... he wanted to... ki - no... that couldn't be.
He was too lost in his thoughts to even remember to pour the two of them another round of drinks. But did they really still need it?

Yup, he wasn't definitely leaning in as well. When he sat up again she was relieved, yet disappointed. Still, she couldn't tear her eyes away from his and it seemed that he had a similar problem. His mouth slowly formed a half smile and he spoke. She could see his face clearly relax, reading peoples expressions was something she practiced considering it was fairly useful in politics. His words made her feel warm inside, like she had just taken a swallow of hot choco or coffee. The only problem was, she didn't know what to say next. She couldn't even think of a response. Her eyebrows furrowed together in thought. But before she had a chance to respond she noticed his head tilt to the side, as if he were studying her or... she blinked once. Twice. Then she let out the breath she didn't realize she had been holding, "What about the drinks?" she was almost breathless when she spoke, as if something in the air was sucking all the air out of her. It wasn't just that though. Sure, her breath was leaving her but it was being replaced with something else. A sort of energy that crept up from inside her stomach and spread through her fingertips and toes. She felt the impulse to undo the bun in her hair, but she didn't. It looked professional and she wanted to look professional... didn't she? She also wanted to look around the room. There had to be somewhere more comfortable to sit than in this chair with a desk between them. She wished that desk would just dissa- "Oh!" she exclaimed as a loud noise distracted her. She hadn't realized she was leaning her arms on the table again. She had knocked one of the glasses over, thank goodness it was empty. But the movement tore her eyes away from his as she looked in order to set the glass upright. @sebastian "don't dull the sparkle in your eyes"

Seb had always thought it rude to stare. That, and he didn't like to make weird eye contact with people when they weren't talking. It was always awkward. But as he sat here, staring at Victoire and she staring back at him, it felt anything but awkward. It almost felt... right. Something in Victoire's expression made him feel comfortable, and that was a new feeling for Sebastian. Normally, he never felt truly comfortable around coworkers or acquaintances. It was odd, but Seb liked it.
"What about the drinks?" Came the sound of Victoire's voice. Seb had been watching her, but it was almost like he had forgotten that he was. He shook his head slightly to come back to reality. How long had they just been sitting there staring at one another? Even though she had spoken and briefly taken him out of whatever trance he was in, he still sat there with the bottle of whiskey in his hand, not pouring more to drink.
The movement of the glass falling over finally got the two to break away from one another. As Victoire set the glass back upright, Sebastion let another crooked smile appear on his lips, his teeth showing this time as he did so. "Let's occupy those glasses, shall we?" He finally said, softly. Seb moved to pour the glasses and as he reached for Victoire's, his eyes flickered up to hers once again and his mind drifted to a different place...
What he wanted to do was stop pouring alcohol into these silly glasses and do something impulsive... but he was refusing to believe what he wanted to do was true. He couldn't possibly have those kind of thoughts about a coworker, could he? He was so lost in thought that he forgot that he was pouring drinks and filled Victoire's glass to the brim. "Oh, I do apologize," he said, stopping immediately and finally looking down at the desk again.
