overall personality:
alaria is one of the increasing amount of muggle-born students that got into slytherin. ever since voldemort’s defeat in 1998, the houses had become much less about blood purity, and more about values. values, she had mused on more than one occasion, that eleven year olds held in their subconscious. over the years at hogwarts, alaria had left no doubt in the minds of those she encountered that she upheld the values of what she considered to be the ‘true’ slytherins. in school terms, that meant little, but as she graduated, it meant only one thing – entrance into a club that, since she had heard of it, she had lusted after joining; the Death Eaters. of course, it wasn’t quite so easy to get in, and she had not been granted the privilege but she was getting ever closer – happy to do anything they requested, pass them any information they may need.
if asked straight out, alaria would immediately go on the defensive – if they called her manipulative, she blamed her feminine wiles. they called her cunning, where she just claimed intelligence. people insulted her by suggesting that she was sly, devious, and cruel. these things she could not exactly refute, but in these cases, she had another weapon – her quick tongue. since a very young age, alaria had had a sharp wit and a biting temperament (it was perhaps a little too cruel for it to be classed as ‘humour’ as it seemed that sometimes she was the only one that was amused by what came out of her mouth). she utilised this on such a regular basis that any careers (not that she needed one – she just wanted an excuse to stay away from her parents) involving verbal contact with others had immediately been ruled out. her superb flying and aggressiveness sealed her fate as a quidditch player. her build and speed locked her in the position of seeker.
since alaria had finished school, she had taken up a penthouse suite near diagon alley that she very rarely ended up staying in, as she was usually travelling between matches. the large apartment seemed empty and echoed too much when she was there, so during the rare times when she was in london, she was generally found at one bar or another, trying to split couples up and getting so drunk she didn’t even remember getting back home. this is the time when her true personality comes out to its full extent – she is cruel, revels in causing chaos and misery, and is extremely manipulative and stubborn.

harley luxarte (male), 16, 6th year student (ravenclaw)

history:
helena and alexander hadn’t wanted kids. the lives they had didn’t lend themselves well to changing nappies and cleaning up sick, and neither of them intended to change that. with that decision being made early on in the pregnancy, the nanny that alaria had initially thought to be her mother was already installed in the house when the healthy baby girl was born. as soon as helena was cleared to leave the hospital, she was back at work with no interest in the life that had grown inside her for eight and a half months. alexander had no interest aside from cursory glances into the nursery as he walked past the half-open door, and crying drove them both out of the house immediately.
when alaria was old enough to attend school, she found that her mother was expecting another child – why, she was not sure, or how, but the fact was that the very limited attention she got from them was going to get even less. even before her brother was born, alaria hated him, and his birth did nothing to change that. for three years, she terrorised him in secret, until a particularly vicious attack was caught by the nanny and alaria was sent off to boarding school. not knowing anyone made the young girl defensive, and she got in many fights before the first year was over. she was constantly in detention or getting lectured about how ‘proper young ladies’ act, but the punishments had no effect. instead, whoever had seen fit to discipline her almost always seemed to have something unpleasant happen to them in the ensuing months. it wasn’t as simple as a broken leg, or their hair inexplicably falling out – she would learn all she could about them, find out their favourite thing, the thing that made them happiest, and then ruined it.
and then, at the age of eleven, everything changed. alaria, for what felt like the first time in her life, was told that she was special. and not only was she special; she was magic. some small part of her thought that it was a trick, but her heart overrode her head, and she took the news happily – even more so when she found that it was a boarding school for magic students and she would only have to come home to the brother that she detested three times a year. when she started at hogwarts, she kept herself isolated from everyone, believing herself to be better than them, and unwilling to mingle with them. it took over a year for her to relax enough to be willing to entertain the notion of even hanging around with the other slytherins. as her school career progressed, alaria found a select group of slytherins that seemed to have the same sense of humour as her, the same ambitions and ideas. she didn’t know this at first, but most of them were children or grandchildren of death eaters.
alaria’s graduation from hogwarts was a quiet affair. her grades were a little better than average, but she had never really cared about them – there was no challenge, no danger, in an exam or in memorising dates and names. she had her sights set on far more glamorous pastures. alaria’s distaste for her own parents and their house meant that she didn’t even go back to see them before renting her property near diagon alley, and she hadn’t been to see them since. four months later were the open trials for the holyhead harpies, and the rest, they say, is history.
