It was an early October morning, around five am and she was already up and getting ready for the day and head to work. Just a few days ago there had been another killing and this one happened on the grounds of Hogwarts, another student had been killed, found in the Forbidden Forest. Things were starting to get more dangerous and she felt the worst was yet to happen. Since that second murder getting to work early had become an up most priority so she could get an early start on the day and get more stuff done. Recently public corruption had been put on the back burner because of Kingsley’s murder and the killings of other Aurors however; today was the day she planned on to push it further. Exiting her cottage she walked along the beach that her cottage was on, she liked where her house was, away from everyone else and under heavy enchantments ever since her husband was killed. An heavy sigh escaped her mouth as she remembered the discovery of her husband’s body a decade ago, and how no one had been officially arrested for his murder, she knew Ian Owens didn’t do it because he never admitted to it. No you must focus on the tasks ahead, you have a job to do Sandy the thought played across her mind, it would be what Weston said to him.
In a turn on her heels she was gone with a tiny pop and was standing in the Ministry atrium and made her way at once to the lifts. When she walked, she walked with an attitude about her that breathed not to mess with her, and seemed to always be calm during stressful situations. Reaching the second floor and the largest department of the Ministry she walked past the Auror office and into the area where the lawyers where. ”Suzan cancel my early meetings, and arrange a team of legal experts on corruption and ethics to meet in my office in two hours” spoke Diane as she walked into where her office was but, stopped at her assistant’s desk first. Her voice was kind but very blunt, and in a quick turn she walked in to her office throwing her coat on her chair and getting other files and throwing them on her desk. Looking up she walked back to her office door and called out to her assistant once more ”Oh and round up an Auror that is stationed at Hogwarts if possible for a meeting as soon as possible, preferably within the hour” before turning back around and sitting down at her desk. She needed an Auror that was stationed at Hogwarts to help her out in what she wanted to go forward with, knowing she would need to clear it with Harry and Hermione as well but, she was going this way first. . 481 WORDS @crystal3 Aurors? Well, well, well...
wasn't this an interesting turn of events? She hadn't expected this when the day had begun that was for sure. Selliah hummed softly as she made her way towards the magical law enforcement department. Or well she hoped she was. It wasn't like she went to the department all of the time. Which made this all the more interesting. It had been a day as any other really. Selliah had simply been getting ready for yet another busy day at Hogwarts. Things were going on in that school--things that she did not like. The killings, the headmaster (she wasn't sure why but she got all the wrong kinds of vibes from the man), the seeming power struggle between him and the former head of her house...oh it was just a mess. And that wasn't even considering the mess the ministry was in no thanks to their foolish minister who wanted to ask as if nothing was going on at all.
But today it wasn't going to work out like that it would seem.
There was a meeting and apparently it was a request that she be there. Odd...but again she tended not to question things around here anymore. There wasn't a lot that tended to make complete sense around here anymore. And so she was just going to go with it. She wasn't worried. She knew she hadn't screwed up. And she had nothing to hide so if someone wanted to poke and prod into her lifestyle--then she had no secrets. Well no physical secrets anyway. There were plenty of things in her brains that she didn't wish to be known by anyone (thus part of the reason why she studies occlumency) but she had a feeling that she didn’t have to worry about any of those thoughts and secrets for this meeting. Not today anyways.
Of course that wasn’t to say there was nothing on her mind. Oh there was plenty. After the meeting with the infamous criminal Ian Owens, what he had bragged to her about, the order meeting and knowing that she know had the power to murder—no kill someone (who deserved it in her opinion)—it was all a lot. It weighed in her young mind. She couldn’t help but wonder if she could go through with killing someone—she had never had to use that kind of power before. She couldn’t help but wonder if she could do that? She would be lying if she said she wasn’t hoping that it was someone else who ran into him and therefore killed the man. But then again—maybe not. And if she was destined to confront him again—then she would have to buck up and get the job done. It wasn’t something she relished (cause killing was killing no matter what after all) but she would do it. Too many people counted on her, on John and Rob, on Walton—on everyone. It was pressure man. A lot of pressure.
Ahh but now was not the time to think about that. Now was not the time to get distracted. She heard the elevator ding and walked out onto the floor and soon enough she was at the magical law enforcement department. The area where the meeting was to be held. Taking a deep breath and clearing her mind and forcing herself to not be so tense—she opened the door and nodded towards the older blonde that was already there, ”Good morning Miss Lockhart. You wanted an auror to attend this meeting?” she asked then waited for a response…

As she sat at her desk going over all the information she had pulled by herself over the last few weeks she looked up as her assistant came in and told her that an Auror was on her their way to meet with her one named Selliah Gracie Davenport and in that mere second the aide handed her the file she had gotten on Selliah. Given to be second in command of the Magical Law Enforcement department Diane could easily get her hands on files she wanted unless only allowed to be seen by higher up like her boss Hermione, or the Minister. ”You know me to well Suzan thank you” said Diane with a smile and started reading the file on the Auror, her assistant Suzan knew Diane would have wanted to see her file before meeting with her. She seemed to be impressive and she knew if she was an Auror under the current Head Auror she had to be a highly trained one. However she had not had the pleasure of training this one, she did miss her old job as Senior Auror and being the lead trainer for the Auror office.
Looking up when there was a knock at the door she saw the lady she was looking at a picture of in her file, just moments ago. Closing the file and pushing it off to the side of her desk she motioned for the lady to sit in a chair across from her. ”Hello Miss. Davenport I don’t think we have had the pleasure of meeting before, it is very nice to meet you please call me Diane” said Diane the tone was nice but still held her authorative tone just a little bit. She piled up the files she had gotten all together on the man her investigation was to focus on, Headmaster Burt Reynolds and his sudden appointment as Headmaster. With the Department of Magical Education refusing to investigate it, she saw no other choice but to look into the allegations.
”I saw that you have been recently placed on protection detail at Hogwarts following these murders, a wise choice of Mr. Potter’s” spoke Diane opening a file, however it had no pictures just documents, and had nothing to do with Selliah. Looking up from the file she looked right into her eyes this time as she spoke to her. ”I’m opening a secretive investigation into an alleged public corruption activity, and I have gotten the permission of Mr. Potter to place you on the investigation. When I mean secretive I mean if you tell anyone of this or anything spoken here today, except to Mr. Potter, I will cry all holly hell until you are fired, understood?” said Diane her voice was pleasant despite, threat of having her fired if she broke confidentiality. She waited for a response from the Auror as she leaned back in her chair, to see if she would accept this offer, it would be rather smart move if it proved to be something good.

This woman was no pushover. No joke. Nothing to be trifled with.
Selliah had already decided this as she had walked in. The woman--Diane--seemed friendly enough but she held and aura of authoritativeness and strictness that reminded her of a teacher almost. Fitting for a member of the magical law enforcement department she reckoned...but it was still enough to make Selliah stand just a little taller, a little straighter...to let her know she wasn't dealing with a slacker. She was dealing with someone who took their job seriously. Very much seriously. And she wasn't going to mess things up.
Diane. She was going to have to remember that. For it seemed as if she was going to be seeing a lot of her in the coming months or however long she was needed. At first Selliah wasn't sure about this meeting. Especially when her first comment was about how Harry had assigned her to be one of the aurors protecting Hogwarts. She simply nodded at the question--not really trusting herself to speak. She felt herself tense--wondering if she was going to have to defend her boss' actions. The minister was proving to be a difficult man in terms of letting the auror department do their job. And granted -- this was not the minister...she couldn't help but wonder what influence that he had over her. Was she going to try and talk her out of her work? Hah! Fat chance!
Thankfully though (and this was one of those rare occasions where she admits to being wrong and she was perfectly okay with it) -- she seemed to praise Harry on his decision. She let out an inward sigh of relief. Good she wasn't like the minister. She wasn't going to try and impend on their job, their work or their ability to do it. This was a very good thing indeed. Of course all it did was increase her curiosity even more. What was this meeting about then?
Again a question that was soon answered. A public corruption investigation? Her? Well...that was unexpected. Sure she had been part of plenty of investigations since beginning her job as an auror. More so lately no thanks to whoever saw fit to murder so very many of her coworkers. But public corruption? Ewww...that sounded like a right big political mess. Politics were never really Selliah's thing and she fought to stay out of such matters...but now they wanted her to be right in the middle of it. She didn't like that idea but Diane saw fit to investigate this and Harry thought she was good enough for the job. And so she would do it. No questions asked...well unless they had to be asked that was. The other made it very clear though that it was a SECRETIVE investigation as she threatened to have Selliah fired if she saw so much as a peep to anyone besides her or Harry. Selliah nodded in understanding as she relaxed and let her back hit the back of the chair,
"Secretive means secrets right? I will not let any information slide by me." the young woman said as now she waited to be told exactly what this investigation held for her and what she was to be doing...though a part of her couldn't help but wonder...
...just what was she getting herself into now?

She knew having Aurors investigate public corruption was something that did not happen normally at all in any matter, especially with the ongoing crisis at the school and the world. However; it just presented that an Auror would already be in the place she needed one, Hogwarts. She could see the young Auror was unsure of why she had been called to the second in command of the law enforcement department. Not many Aurors got called to her office, if any they were called to Harry’s or Hermione’s the top boss of it all. However when she could see that she had relaxed by the time she had mention she was being placed on a public corruption investigation, she was nowhere near being in trouble at all. She nodded and gave a little smile at the Auror’s reply on about keeping the entire investigation a secret. Smart move thought Diane as she leaned over and handed a couple folders to Selliah. One was on Headmaster Burt Reynolds, the other one was what she could find out about Professor Vincent Stone the new Transfiguration Professor.
”The investigation will be into Burt Wick Reynolds appointment as Headmaster of Hogwarts, the Magical Education department has refused to look into his appointment which has raised eyebrows. There is evidence that points to possible bribery, threats, extortion, and abuse of Ministry power was used to secure Reynolds position as Headmaster. Stone is a friend of Reynolds, one he hired as soon as he became Headmaster he worked in France and likes dark arts, that’s all we know” spoke Diane curtly as she got up and made her way to a cabinet behind her desk. Opening it she picked up some files from it and dumped them on his desk, they were members of the Board of Governors and a few past ones, two were dead under strange but disclosed as natural deaths.
”I stress secrecy Selliah because Reynolds is a man with many connections and if he truly did these things and is guilty of the allegations then he is very dangerous. I use to work under him when he was Head Auror, a very smart man always knew how to plan ahead.” said Diane she took a seat behind her desk once more and put her hand to her head, she was very unsure of where this investigation could lead too. ”I need you to get close to conversations the Headmaster has with any of these people, or Vincent. Try to overhear anything, and if you find anything that would be great. Anything that you think is worthy even if not relevant to his appointment could be very well information we need to know. This investigation can go either way, you understand” spoke Diane looking directly at the Auror in front of her. This could go from an investigation into alleged acts of public corruption for a position to a wider range investigation into Reynolds himself directly. Opening the files they displayed pictures of board members, Vincent, and even Avyanna Rose Head of Magical Education department. Those people projected the most chance she could find something out about his position, and Diane suspected Avyanna was not working for the Ministry’s best interests at all.
