((Staff no longer uses this thread for news! WE are keeping it up for plot reference though. All the articles here are from before the end of the Purifier plot, so all major news from the time the site was made to May 2026)) THE DAILY PROPHET 14 July 2022Norbert Quirrell KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT FOUND DEAD The Minister of Magic was found dead Monday morning at the Shrieking Shack by a nomad wizard squatting in the area. It is presumed that Shacklebolt was murdered by means of the killing curse; the nomad has been ruled out as a suspect. All clues leading to another suspect have been further erased, leaving authorities baffled as to how Mr. Shacklebolt was attacked without a trace. Being that the attack was so close to school grounds, extra Aurors have been placed on patrol in and around both the village of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Kingsley Shacklebolt was born in 1964 to Tiberius and Octavia Shacklebolt. He was their only child. Shacklebolt attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, sorted into Gryffindor house. After Hogwarts, Shacklebolt entered the Auror force where he remained until being promoted to Minister for Magic following the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998. Shortly after the war, Shacklebolt married Hestia Jones. The two welcomed three children; Royal Shacklebolt (22,) and twins Abigail and Adelaide Shacklebolt (17.) His wife and children still remain. Shacklebolt was succeeded in his position of Minister for Magic by Cain Reynolds.

THE DAILY PROPHET 2 September 2022Norbert Quirrell STUDENT FOUND DEAD ON HOGWARTS EXPRESS A student was found dead Saturdau evening on the Hogwarts Express, pronounced dead on the scene. She was found by seventh year James Potter in an empty compartment on the way to the school. Reports came back that the young girl was to be entering her first year as a muggleborn. It is assumed that the girl was attacked by means of the Killing Curse, as no signs of force could be found at the scene. "The train's lights went out and then there was just a bright light," one student witness can recall of the train ride that day. Alyson Polinski, a Ravenclaw seventh year, was only three compartments down from the compartment in which the young girl was found. James Potter was not available for comment. The Auror precaution has been upped at Hogwarts for extra protection for the students. The death of this young girl comes as a shock to the whole wizarding community. More information will be given as the story progresses.

THE DAILY PROPHET 10 October 2022Norbert Quirrell SECOND MUGGLEBORN STUDENT FOUND DEAD The wizarding world is shaken to the core once again as more reports of another muggleborn student killed on the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry make their way to the Prophet. A fourth year Ravenclaw, Andrew Parson, was found in the Forbidden Forest. The conditions in which he was found are more than brutal.
The young boy was found mutilated and stabbed by his own wand, presumably also attacked by the Killing Curse. The family was not available for questioning.
Parents are beginning to question the safety of Hogwarts once again, something that has not been questioned since the dark times of 1996-97. The Headmaster has reportedly received many owls since this second attack calling into question his safety protocols, even with the Aurors stationed at the school. The Miniter's lack of putting more Aurors in the field is also a worry of many in the community.
"There is nothing to worry about," Minister Reynold stated in a press conference held on Thursday afternoon. While the Minister's words are trying to sound encouraging, parents of children in Hogwarts are becoming increasingly worried that their children are in danger, much like their own generation during Voldemort's reign.
This story is developing.

THE DAILY PROPHET 15 December 2022Norbert Quirrell WIZARDING WORLD IN DANGER AGAIN? The last few months have proved a trying time for our community with two unexplained murders of muggleborn students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the murder of former Minister for Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt. But it seems now that we may be falling back onto hard times. Along with the last two attacks on the muggleborn students, another student was attacked shortly before the students of Hogwarts ended their term before Christmas. Seventh year Ravenclaw Ethan Johnson was attacked by an unknown witch or wizard, found in the Forbidden Forest. Unlike the two attacks before him, Mr. Johnson was left bleeding out in the Forest by means of the Sectumsempra curse, a brutally horrific curse that leaves gashes all across the victim's body. A curse unknown by many, it is speculated that one related to old followers of Voldemort's may be behind these attacks. The Johnson family would not answer questions but it is safe to say that there are more worried parents than there have been in years. But there is no shortage of killings this month: Minister Cain Reynolds was found in a back alley around the corner from Madam Malkin's in Diagon Alley this past Sunday morning. All signs pointing to similar evidence of the past cases, making it another presumed kill by our serial killer. At this time there is no Ministry official stepping up to the position of Minister for Magic. Finally, the current Headmaster of Hogwarts has decided to step down from his position following parent outlash these last few months. With the students now at home for the holidays, there is no current talk of a replacement Headmaster. written by ?

THE DAILY PROPHET 5 January 2023Norbert Quirrell LONGBOTTOM HEADMASTER INSTATED The name Longbottom goes back many, many years. As a notable pureblood family that has been around for so long, the name Longbottom is not only a well known one but also a well trusted one. Which is why parents are pleased to hear that Herbology professor and Deputy Headmaster, Neville Augustus Longbottom, has stepped up to the position of Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Longbottom (42) son of former Aurors, Frank and Alice Longbottom, announced this over the Christmas holiday which he spent with his family. Longbottom took part in the Wizarding War of 1998 and had briefly held a position as an Auror before beginning his teachings at Hogwarts. The former Auror married Hannah Abbott, of the Abbott family; owner and landlady of the Leaky Cauldron. Together the two have three children: Alice (17,) Phillip (16,) and Jayden (15.) Needless to say, with the news of Longbottom taking over as Headmaster - parents have hopes for the remainder of the year to be safer than the last half.

THE DAILY PROPHET 18 February 2023Norbert Quirrell NEW MINISTER FOR MAGIC After near two months without a Minister for Magic, an individual has finally stepped up to the plate. Former Junior Assistant for the Ministry for Magic (both under Shacklebolt and Cain,) Victoire Weasley has stepped up and taken responsibility as the Minister for Magic. While she is not the first female Minister in our nation's history, she is indeed the youngest at age twenty two. Weasley is the eldest child of William & Fleur Weasley. Victoire attended Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry where she resided in Slytherin house. She graduated top of her class and as Head Girl among many of her cousins and family members. She graduated and then moved on to the Auror-in-training program where she remained for a year and a half before applying for the Junior Assistant job. "Victoire had always wanted to work for the Ministry," said close friend Edward Lupin, son of the late Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin. Weasley had only remained in the postion of JA for just about a year before stepping up to the position of Minister. "Miss Weasley has always had the drive of someone far older than herself and it shows in her work," stated coworker Sebastian Rockefellar, Adviser to the Minister. Rockefellar also stated that since Cain's death, he and Weasley had been running the Ministry themselves as is and "if [anyone] could do this job well, it's Miss Weasley." Victoire has already increased Ministry security and, since the last two Ministers were assassinated, has established a personal guard for herself and her team. With a last name as well known as hers, the wizarding community sees a glimpse of hope in this new regime.

THE DAILY PROPHET 2 April 2023Norbert Quirrell ATTACK ON HOGWARTS Yesterday, April 1st, there was a massive attack on Hogwarts which resulted in 15 students being kidnapped by men in masks. Many at first thought the loud sounds happening within the castle were just April Fools Day Pranks, but it turned out to be much more than that. The fatal count is still in process, but the students who were taken are all accounted for on this list: Elaine Dupree Cain Edge Alucard Elric Casey Zimmerman Raleigh Forrest Marcia Hawkins Moreta Jaeger Zander Lloyd Theodorus Nott Cassidy Pollexfen Braelynn Rousseau Desirae Rousseau Adelaide Shacklebolt Sophia Williams Natalia Arnold During the attack, one student was killed. Ethan Johnson, a muggleborn who was attacked earlier this year. His killer revealed herself and now Elaine Lyra Dupree, an eighteen year old witch, is wanted for murder. However, she is missing amongst the other students. Headmaster Longbottom and Minister Weasley, along with the Law Enforcement Department and many others are currently in the works of trying to locate and rescue these students. The Minister's estimate is that they will be found within two days. We can only hope that they can pull it off. Many good wishes and prayers are going out to those families and students who suffered from this attack, and to the wizarding community as a whole. This is a time when we must stand together.

THE DAILY PROPHET 10 June 2023Norbert Quirrell TERRORIST ATTACK ON KING'S CROSS STATION Just after the return of the kidnapped students to their families, Hogwarts School continued with their exams as usual and graduation commenced. But upon the Hogwarts Express arrival to King's Cross the evening the students were returning home from school, a terrorist group attacked King's Cross. Aurors were already on the scene as they had been awaiting the train after the incidents at the school prior to this. Both the muggle and Hogwarts train parts of the station were attacked. Many injuries, some even muggle, were reported. The only reported deaths were three Aurors. There are no leads as to who is behind these attacks, though rumors are flying around that the same group behind these attacks are the same behind the Hogwarts kidnapping two months ago. written by ?

THE DAILY PROPHET 1 November 2023Norbert Quirrell CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED On Halloween, the three champions for the Tri-Wizard Tournament were chosen at the hosting school of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Headmaster Professor Longbottom drew from the Goblet of Fire the three names of the champions after explaining the friendly nature of the tournament, reports field reporter Alaistor Cripplehoff. The Goblet then spit out the names: Elias Greyback for Durmstrang Institute, Molly Weasley for Hogwarts, and Emile Chevaliere for Beauxbatons Academy for Magic.
"Once it was announced that the Triwizard Tournament was being held again, I was more than elated to participate," said Beauxbatons champion Émile Chevalier. Chevalier was among several other Beauxbatons students that entered the tournament, visiting from France. "The odds were stacked against me. I mean, they were against all of us, you know?" Explains excited Gryffindor student and Hogwarts champion, Molly Weasley; daughter of Ministry employee Percy Weasley and Audrey Weasley. "I hope this will be my chance to make the Greyback name well-known in a good way," shares Durmstrang champion Elias Greyback.
Eyes from all over the country will certainly be on all three of these champions as the tournament begins with the first task later this month.

THE DAILY PROPHET 16 November 2023Norbert Quirrell FIRST TASK COMMENCES Émile Chevalier of Beauxbatons has given the French wizarding school the edge in the Tri-Wizard Tournament, coming out victorious in the first task on November 15th in front of a large crowd at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Molly Weasley of Hogwarts placed second, with the Durmstrang champion Elias Greyback coming in third. The first task of this tournament echoed a previous task; the third task of the 1994-95 Tournament which also famously took place at Hogwarts. A maze, riddled with magical creatures, spells, and other objects designed to confuse, block, and backtrack the champions. Each champion was also given one magical potion to use at any point they desired within the maze. Mr. Chevalier had a fire-protection potion, Ms. Weasley a wit-sharpening potion, and Mr. Greyback an invisibility potion. Ms. Weasley was the first champion to come across an obstacle; a pair of acromantulas that she defeated after escaping the web spun around her body. Mr. Chevalier's first challenge came next; a willow tree designed by the Headmaster to sap the challenger of their magical powers. The Beauxbatons champion found a loophole by climbing over the tree and escaping with minimal damage to his person. Finally, Mr. Greyback met with flesh-eating slugs; though he was able to eventually escape them, it was not without some grievous injury. The race to the end of the maze continued with Ms. Weasley, after courageously fighting an Erumpent with great success, who was then foiled by a spell designed to temporarily blind her, and then narrowly avoiding poisonous gas that would have almost certainly caused her great peril. Mr. Greyback was set back by his injuries from the flesh-eating slugs, but was able to stave off fire-breathing flowers and a boggart while magically silenced before running into the acromantulas that Ms. Weasley had encountered earlier. Mr. Chevalier passed through a freezing spell, a boggart in the form of a beggar, sent a sworm of birds towards Chipfurzles and in a moment that had the crowd holding their breath, fought a manticore and came out miraculously unscathed. Throughout the course of the maze, two of three champions were able to use their potions. Ms. Weasley when facing a Devil's Snare who has taken her wand, and Mr. Chevalier when faced with a wall of fire blocking his path. Mr. Greyback was unable to use his invisibility potion for the trials he faced. Mr. Chevalier's victory earned him fifty points in the Tri-Wizard Tournament, putting Beauxbatons at an obvious advantage. The next task will take place in February, after the traditional Yule Ball at Christmas.

THE DAILY PROPHET 22 November 2023Norbert Quirrell BLOOD PURIST ACCOMPLICE KILLED IN ACTION Desirae Rousseau, the noted terrorist and member of the blood purist group responsible for the April kidnappings at Hogwarts, was killed in action in the early hours of this morning by two members of the Auror force, Minister of Magic Victoire Weasley confirmed at an early morning press conference. "I can confirm that justice for @ghostethan and countless other victims was served today," Minister Weasley said. Rousseau was located at an abandoned church in London and was thought to have been using the location as a hideout for some time. The Minister also commented that she had been briefed on a possible lead on Rousseau's location earlier in the week, and had been given the green light for Head Auror Harry Potter to send out a team to bring her in, dead or alive. Sources say that the two Aurors were Claire Slater and Abigail Shacklebolt, though Minister WEasley would not confirm. "We will not identify the Aurors involved with this raid for their safety." Rousseau was thought to be one of the masterminds behind the blood purist group that has claimed responsibility for the King's Cross attacks in May along with the kidnappings and tortures of pureblooded students in April and have also been linked to the death of several other Muggleborn students. The group has not yet been linked with the murders of Kingsley Shacklebolt and Reynold Cain. Desirae Rousseau is also thought to have been responsible for the death of her younger sister, Braelynn Rousseau. It is said that Desirae was working under a false name at the wizarding night club Club Indigo, owned by Alastor Draven. Draven has claimed no knowledge of Rousseau's true identity, citing that she had given a false name when she applied for the position. The Ministry hopes that the death of one of the assumed top members of this group will soon lead to the capture of Elaine Dupree, who is thought to be the mastermind behind the group. "With Rousseau's demise, we can only hope that it will take us one step closer to finally capturing Elaine Dupree, and disbanding this blood purity group once and for all, bring peace back to the wizarding world," Minister Weasley concluded.

THE DAILY PROPHET 25 January 2024Norbert Quirrell HEAD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT PROMOTED TO MINISTER Victoire Weasley has officially stepped down as Minister for Magic. The young Weasley had taken up the position last year after Reynold Cain's unfortunate death. Weasley was the first to step up after both previous Ministers had been horribly murdered. Many were nervous about a Weasley stepping into the position, especially following the previous attacks on the older men, but Weasley proved she could handle the press and the stress during her short reign. Weasley decided to step down for personal reasons, refusing to comment further as to why, but it appears that she is keeping it in the family for her aunt and Senior Undersecretary, Hermione Granger-Weasley, has stepped into the position. @hermionejean recently promoted from Head of Magical Law Enforcement to Senior Undersecretary for the Minister under her niece, seemed proud to be stepping into such a position. The new Minister had this to say, "The position of Minister for Magic is a role model for young witches and wizards of all kind. Someone to look up to and lead them with all their strength smarts and power and fight for justice in the world. Victoire Weasley is an exemplary witch, and with her decision to focus on her family I am humbled to be the figurehead in the fight against blood purity and I will not rest until every witch and wizard feels safe in their beds regardless of blood type." It has certainly not escaped the public's eye that this is the Ministry's first muggleborn Minister in many, many years. Granger-Weasley has been appointed round the clock guards and security, and she seems to have much of the public's support. Which doesn't come as much of a surprise considering how much she has done for the community in the last 20 years. But needless to say, the new Minister may have her work cut out for her.

THE DAILY PROPHET 17 February 2024Norbert Quirrell New Headmistress Its seems that even Hogwarts has been affected by the high turnover rate of their leaders. Last week, Headmaster Longbottom fell gravely ill and has since been hospitalized at St. Mungos. While we were unable to get an official statement from any of the employees at the hospital, one healer did say that his ailment is still currently unknown. Regardless it is unclear whether Neville Longbottom will be returning to his spot, or what his health state truly is. Despite the Ministry has called a new Headmaster to take his place during his absence. After spending the majority of her life servicing Hogwarts school, Minerva McGonagall has left her retirement and returned to Hogwarts to take up the mantle of Headmistress once more. While the woman refused to make any official statement many parents are relieved to have such a seasoned individual overlooking the well being of their children in this dark time. Headmistress McGonagall was not only one of the youngest professors Hogwarts has ever seen, but she served under the famous Headmaster, Albus Dumbledor for decades. This experienced, plus surviving two Wizarding Wars is the experience many hope Hogwarts needs. But, is her return to Hogwarts permanent, or will Neville Longbottom recover?

THE DAILY PROPHET 25 February 2024Norbert Quirrell The second Task
Molly Weasley was declared the winner in the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament, which was held this past Sunday, February 25th. Émile Chevalier, of Beauxbatons, came in second, and Elias Greyback of Durmstrang in third. This task puts Ms. Weasley and Mr. Chevalier on even footing approaching the third and final task of the Tournament, with both having won one task and finished in second in another. Mr. Greyback lags behind, having come in third in both tasks.
The Second Task casted the Champions as literal champions of animal companions, fighting for their otherwise defenseless magical creatures as the pairs made their way through arenas rife with threats of all kinds. Each arena was a different extreme environment, from endless desert to a frozen wasteland. Each Champion completed three arenas before finishing in their magical creature companion’s home environment, where they were tasked with retrieving a jewel belonging to their school from their creature’s family.
In her winning run, Ms. Weasley, accompanied by a diricawl had to brave a volcano, a bog, and a mountainside before returning to the diricawl’s natural forest habitat. While her main challenge with the volcano arena appeared to be the volcano itself, in the bog she encountered a hinkypunk, and on the mountainside, a dragon adolescent and its mother. Throughout her experience in the arenas, Ms. Weasley had to keep her diricawl from Apparating away from her, as it is known to do when in danger. When asked to what she owed her success in this task, Ms. Weasley credited the relationship she had built with her diricawl, as well as assistance from her boyfriend, a Beauxbatons student, and her friend, a Ravenclaw student.
Mr. Chevalier faced entirely different, but equally challenging arenas as he protected his murtlap from harm. He made his way through a tropical forest, a frozen tundra, and an endless ocean prior to visiting the murtlap’s coastline habitat. Getting through the dense foliage of the tropical forest proved difficult for the Beauxbatons Champion, but that paled in comparison to his encounters with a yeti in the tundra, and merpeople and grindylows in the ocean. Throughout the arenas Mr. Chevalier had to protect the delicate murtlap from the harsh elements, as well as himself adjust to the constant fluctuation of temperatures provided by his arenas. When asked what he had to stay to fans who were disappointed in his second-place finish, Mr. Chevalier had a scathing reply. “That's their fault for getting their hopes up. It's like how muggle children believe in Santa Claus. The more you believe in something, the worse of you'll be when it comes crashing down. Maybe they'll learn from that."
The third-place finisher, Mr. Greyback and his companion, a niffler, also encountered a variety of environments as he fought through a desert, redwood forest, and glacier habitat before finding himself in the cool underground tunnels that nifflers call home. Mr. Greyback’s first enemy was again the elements, as he fought to keep both his niffler and himself cool and hydrated while they made their way through the desert. The redwood forest saw an encounter with a forest troll, and the slippery footing of a constantly-shifting glacier was challenge enough without any creatures to complicate things. Mr. Greyback’s niffler companion proved to be loyal to him as it led him through the winding tunnels and the Durmstrang jewel. When asked about his chances for the Third Task and winning the Tournament, Mr. Greyback asserted that he believed that there was still a chance for any of the Champions to win, and that he “[hadn’t] had great luck since the beginning”, but remained optimistic.
The third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament will be held this April at Hogwarts. No word yet as to what it may entail, but with Ms. Weasley and Mr. Chevalier neck-and-neck, and Mr. Greyback content to play the part of the scrappy underdog, it is sure to be an interesting finish to a year of twists and turns for these Champions and their fans. written by @puck

THE DAILY PROPHET 30 April 2024Norbert Quirrell The third task & Triwizard Winner
The Triwizard Tournament, a yearlong event of international competition and camaraderie, came to an end this Tuesday, April 30th, as the final task was held and the winner of the Tournament was held. The third task consisted of the three Champions searching through a misty field for fairies that were collected for points. The Champions had a limited line of sight due to the fog surrounding them, and halfway through the competition, the arena shifted and creatures were introduced to test their ability to keep their wits about them, even in the face of terror and despair.
The Champions all performed valiantly in their task, but at the end, it was Molly Weasley of Hogwarts who again took home the win. Elias Greyback of Durmstrang followed in second (his first non-last placement of the Tournament), and Émile Chevalier of Beauxbatons finished in last. The Champions’ final scores were 135 points for Ms. Weasley, 105 points for Mr. Chevalier, and 75 points for Mr. Greyback. Thus, Molly Weasley became the 2024 Triwizard Champion, following in the footsteps of her uncle, Harry Potter, who won in 1994.
When asked how she thought her life would change, Ms. Weasley seemed unsure of herself, saying that everything “[felt] kind of surreal” and that she was looking forward to spending time with her friends and her boyfriend before she graduates and enters the workforce. Ms. Weasley claims to have no plans for her winnings, electing instead to save the Galleons she will be given for her triumph.
Mr. Chevalier was unable for comment; it is the reporter’s belief that he jinxed himself by saying that his fans oughtn’t get their hopes up at his last interview.
As for Mr. Greyback, despite his loss he remained humble. “I was glad to be able to compete with such wonderful people. The Tournament brought me to Hogwarts, and it’s here that I met my half-siblings by my father.” He went on to say that he is looking into a career in law enforcement, wanting to further the Greyback name as a force of good instead of evil.
The foreign students will be returning to their respective countries on the 18th of May, though rumors abound that many of the members of the foreign delegation plan to stay and continue their careers here, with their new friends from Hogwarts. The Daily Prophet welcomes all who wish to stay, and to the rest, wishes happy travels and great success in life. We look forward to seeing Beauxbatons and Durmstrang in fifteen years, when the Goblet of Fire once again chooses its Champions. Until then – draco dormiens nunquam titillandus! written by @puck
