Finally. The common room was empty and Edmund really couldn't be happier about that. It wasn't necessarily that he didn't like other people or want them around, he just really enjoyed the peace and solitude that came from being on his own in here. Edmund stretched out on a couch, resting his head against the arm as he started to relax. He let his mind wander, which wasn't something he allowed often, but was surprised by how light his thoughts were. Maybe it was because the days were lengthening and getting warmer. Something about summer approaching normally made him happier so maybe his mood had to do with that. A smile covered his face as he lay on the couch. Classes were already started for the day, but he had a free period now. Since no one else was in the common room with him, he assumed they were studying. He'd do that later. Ed was determined to enjoy the moment of peace that he found.

Lydia enjoyed her alone time as well, as long as it was filled with thoughts of ways to improve herself and others. She had been in the girls dormitory, taking her sweet time getting ready for the rest of the day since she didn't have anywhere specific to be. She straightened her wild curls and pinned the sides back, a simple but classic look. She did her make up intricately, making sure the blending was flawless and the lines exactly where she wanted them to be. She looked downright stunning.
She was still in her school uniform but didn't mind. Green was her color, and black was always in fashion. She came down to the common room with the hopes of showing off but... Only one person was there. From behind, she wasn't quite sure who it was...
"Napping?" she guessed as she crossed around to him. "Oh, hello Edmund," she said calmly, moving to sit on the edge of a chair nearby.

A short while later, Edmund heard someone descend the stairs. He thought about sitting up and seeing who it was, but ... he was soooo enjoying his peace and quiet. Maybe if he didn't get up then they wouldn't notice him and would leave and go about their business. It didn't even occur to him that their business might be in the common room.
However, Edmund didn't get his wish. He heard a familiar voice ask if he was napping and then greet him. He opened an eye and offered a small smile. That was better than being angry when only moments before he was so calm and peaceful. It was Lydia. She was younger than him, but she was also nice. She seemed to get along with everyone, or so he thought. "Hi Lydia. You look nice. How's your morning going?" He asked. He was just trying to be polite, but he was sincere at the same time. Ed just wasn't very good at starting conversations.

Of course she looked nice. This was Lydia. "Thank you,Edmund. My morning is lovely! And yours?" it was a darn shame little Edmund Windsor was muggle born. That royalty would be quite an accomplishment if Lydia could acquire it... But in Elaines world that would mean nothing, and Elaine was going to change things, Lydia knew, so there was no point in dreaming about muggle royalty. Even if it did come with amazing clothes. Plus, muggles were dangerous and scary things, so why would she surround herself with the ones in charge? That would be incredibly stupid.
Still, that didn't mean she couldn't TALK to Edmund. He was cute and interesting enough. There wasn't any reason to cut ties, unless he openly opposed Elaine and like joined the muggle military, which he technically hadn't as far as Lydia knew.

He shrugged when she thanked him and asked how his morning was going in return. "It's fine. I was just taking advantage of the empty common room," he explained. "It doesn't happen very often, as I'm sure you're aware." He paused a moment, "Are you headed to breakfast or classes ...?" Ed trailed off. He didn't know what time it was, or how long he sat on that couch before she arrived. Maybe first period was over and he was late to his first class of the day. He really had no idea. He glanced to a nearby clock on the mantle of the fireplace, taken a bit by surprise when he realized that hardly any time passed since he sat down. Great. That meant he had to do something for the next hour, since he definitely wasn't going to be able to sleep anymore.

He said it was fine and that he was - ooh - she ruined the empty room. He asked if she was headed to breakfast or classes, possibly trying to get rid of her? She wasn't going anywhere yet, though... "you're right it's very rare. Having two people alone is also pretty rare," she added. A lot of couples couldn't get a second alone in the common room. "Maybe the early mornings are some secret world that hasn't been explored enough," she added, wiggling her eyebrows. She giggled, "I was just going to head to class. But it doesn't start for another twenty minutes or so," she explained. "And why are you here so early?" she wasn't really surprised that Edmund was here all alone, though. He was kind of a loner type as far as she could tell.

She commented that it was indeed rare, just like it was rare for two people to be alone there. Edmund snorted, recognizing that as truth. If he ever wanted to be alone with someone, he never tried to meet with them there. He nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I guess we're pretty lucky, since this doesn't happen for most people." Not that anything was going to happen between the two of them. If he'd been stuck in a room with Lily Potter he might have been nervous, but Lydia wasn't close enough to him for him to be worried about anything. He just wanted to have fun, interestingly enough. He nodded, "Maybe. We should check it out another day. Maybe it's just the day of the week or something." He wasn't really that interested, but he was curious. He shrugged, "I couldn't sleep, but I'm not hungry either. You?"

"Lucky. Exactly," she agreed with a short nod. He said they should check out the early morning another day and she nodded, "Oh! Yes, to see if this is a regular thing or a coincidence. It's a good experiment," and it was. And it kind of meant she had a standing hang out session with Edmund now, which sounded fun. "So the sleuthing begins," she added. Then he said he couldn't eat but he wasn't hungry and her jaw dropped. "You weren't hungry? How can you not be hungry!?" she said, clearly stunned. Food was the best thing ever. Well, aside from fashion and looking good. But food was important and delicious.

Edmund hadn't really interacted with Lydia much, so he was a little surprised that she agreed it was lucky that this happened, but not in a bad way. She was nice and seemed like a fun person, so it was good. Right? She seemed to like his idea and he smiled and nodded, "Exactly! And if we find that it is a regular thing, we can take advantage of it whenever we want." By having the common room to themselves, of course. He would definitely like to know that. He chuckled at her comment about their sleuthing. She then seemed stunned by the fact that he wasn't hungry and Edmund shrugged. "I like food! I eat all the time, but when I came down to find the room empty ... I decided some time to relax was more important than food. Besides, if I'm ever hungry I can slip over to the kitchens." Edmund probably went there too much .... oh well. Sometimes it was worth having to eat in the kitchens, so long as he had his privacy, though he really wasn't minding having someone with him right now.

He seemed just as excited about the idea as she did, which was unexpected. "Exactly. We can have secret meetings and tea time," she added. If they ever found a boyfriend or a girlfriend they could keep an eye out for each other in the early morning hours. It was a good deal.
Edmund gave his excuse as to why he wasn't hungry, because he wanted to take advantage of the empty room. Lydia considered this for a moment, her finger to her chin. Then she set her hand back in her lap. "Fine. I accept that answer. As long as you know how important dessert is," she half questioned, raising an eyebrow at him. The kitchens were a great place to get food. Housr Elves belonged down there, after all, because cooking was one of the things they were best at. That and cleaning, of course. Elves could do a very decent bit of magic though that even wizards couldn't do... Which was fascinating to her.

Edmund couldn't help but laugh when she mentioned them having secret meetings and tea time. "It's a deal then! As long as we figure out that there is actually a consistent time when this place is empty ... or we can find somewhere else. I mean, tea time and secret meetings does sound pretty intense," he said with a little smirk. He couldn't help it, he was enjoying this conversation.
She thought about what he said for a moment and then decided that it was fine, mentioning the importance of dessert. Edmund chuckled. "Dessert is extremely important. It's what got me through my childhood," he was being a little sarcastic, but he did actually like dessert. Hopefully he wouldn't offend her. Ed didn't really need more enemies.

He laughed and she giggled right along with it. Then he suggested that they could find somewhere else if they needed to and that the while plan sounded intense. "Awe, but a relaxing kind of intense. Tea can be used for many things, but relaxing is the best purpose for it," she said firmly. Lydia was one of those poeple who stated their opinion as fact, not really giving any sort of leeway for other arguments. "Secret meetings, however," she leaned forward a tiny but and raised an eyebrow, "should always be intense." Duh!
He agreed that dessert was important, giving a little tease to the statement, it seemed. "I'm sure you had access to lovely desserts," she guessed with a sigh. Royal cooks and royal parties and all. It was a wonder that he wasn't incredibly fat. In fact, none of his siblings were! Susan was GORGEOUS and Lucy was great and adorable and Will was dreamy. The whole family was quite lovely to look at. She was sure the family tree was pleasing, too. At least visually.

This conversation was ... so interesting, but Ed was still enjoying it. She talked about how their meetings would be a relaxing kind of intense and he shrugged again. "I guess you're right. Tea is definitely relaxing." He was about to make some sort of comment about secret meetings not being relaxing, but she said it for him. He smiled as she said what he was thinking. "I was just about to say that. I bet we can have some fun with secret meetings," he lifted an eyebrow teasingly. "We just have to come up with something cool to do during them ..." He narrowed his eyes, thinking.
"I'm sure everyone has," he said noncommittally. "After all, we do spend most of each year in Hogwarts, you know," he added. He knew that everyone thought it was all great being a royal, but it wasn't. He didn't get cake every night or anything like that.

He agreed with her, no surprise there. Tea was a universal concept! Especially in England. He smiled and said he was just about to say the same thing and she giggled again, her grin wide. He sajd they could have some fun with secret meetingd and raised that eyebrow. Oh it was too bad that he was a muggle born. Because he was quite cute. He narrowed his eyes and said that they had to come up with something and she hummed in thought. "Maybe... Invent something? Bake desserts?" she chuckled. "Or... Plan pranks on the common room. I'm not too good at those, though," she admitted.
He decided to take her dessert comment and make or about being at Hogwarts instead of being royal. Fair enough. "The elves do some amazing work! It's a wonder we're not all massive," she said, mirroring what she had been thinking earlier aboit the Windsor family.

The two were actually getting along much better than Edmund expected. It wasn't that he thought Lydia was mean or anything, he just hadn't ever really interacted with her before. So he wasn't sure what to expect. She started coming up with ideas of things they could do and Ed nodded thoughtfully. "That sounds like fun. I'll have to brainstorm what we could invent, but cooking is always fun. Especially desserts." He laughed at her last suggestion. "I am not good at all with pranks. If we do come up with one, I'll probably botch it up." Yeah ... Ed wasn't good at being sneaky.
He nodded at her comment about house elves. "Yeah, they certainly make things easier." A part of Ed wished he had house elves growing up. They could have made it easier to stay away from his siblings growing up. He chuckled, "Maybe the food is magical so that's not possible," he joked lightly.
