Learning how to turn into a Canadian Marble Fox was not an easy task. It was going to be his Christmas Present to Bay, but it was so. hard. His Uncle Carson was helping him with the theory and slowly tutoring him how to do it. He had been practicing since July, and it was almost Christmas day and he hadn't been able to transform yet. It wasn't a lot of time, he knew, but he at least wanted to transform for just a second in order to show her for Christmas!
The hardest part was willingly changing the literal mass of his body to something smaller. That was incredibly confusing to him. How did that even make sense?! Carson had to explain about a million times that magic did things that weren't explainable, and that he just had to accept the reality of the situation. He had gone to the zoo to watch some of the foxes, watching videos on 'you tube' at the muggle library, and petted Emily's dog for a feel of fur. He tried to imagine himself feeling like that... how did people do this.
Slowly he started to transform a little at a time. His ears become large, fluffy and floppy first. That was a start! Then he'd study a few more days and try other things like his paws, his tail. It was all sort of haphazard but it was working.
Finally, on December 15th, he finally transformed. He squeaked so loud dancing around the room that his Uncle Carson had to tell him to stop as if he was a dog. Little Fox Zander looked up at his uncle with big, adorable eyes and his ears flattened. It felt weird, being so much smaller than his uncle... and it felt even weirder when his Uncle picked him up and patted his head like he really was a fox. Zander wasn't incredibly amused about that.
What it took from it, after transforming back to a human after only two minutes, was that he had to focus on aspects of the animal he knew well, and focus on the tools he'd learned in Transfiguration class... hopefully he got better before Christmas.
