Daniel had always felt a sort of empathy with others, he had thought it was just some high intuition. His ability didn't come to full force until he was fifteen. That summer he was visiting his friends, the Krum family, in England.
It was a nice day for a hike so he and the Krum kids decided to go out. It was rare that it wasn't raining when Daniel came to visit. It always seemed to rain when he came to town. He personally liked the rain. It did make a good chunk of the people around melancholy, though. He didn't mind it. Still, He was glad to be rid of it for the day that they went on their hike.
While hiking they saw some caves up ahead and, of course, decided to explore them. Daniel stayed with the group. Though part of him wanted to go explore on his own but he didn't think that would be safe... so he stuck with his friends. They were coming up on and large cavern with a high ceilings when suddenly a large bat swooped down toward the group. Dan lurched forward to catch Irina by the shoulders and move her aside, otherwise it would have flown right into her.
At that moment, the moment that he caught her shoulders, he felt an insane sense of fear and panic surge through him. He turned her toward him, wrapping both of his arms around her when he realized that those feelings were coming from her...
He stood there holding her for longer than he meant to, in shock at the surge of emotions rushing into his body and his mind. At the first chance he could, when he felt her emotions calm just a little, he pulled back, keeping his hands on her shoulders. "Are you okay?" he asked, even though he could tell that she really wasn't. The more he stayed in contact with her the more he started to feel that fear himself, like poisonous gas seeping into his lungs and bloodstream. He slowly pulled his hands away. He didn't feel instantly better but the intense fear started to subside. That was when he realized that there was something seriously wrong with him. He spent the rest of the summer holed up in his room, only speaking to his sister Louisa. He dreaded going back to school and feeling everything that every teenager around him was feeling...
