Packing was one slow process, one he couldn't stand but he had to get his stuff together, so said mother, for them to get ready for the trip to Indonesia. His mother was dragging him along for her to locate some rare potion ingredients that her and her team had scouted months earlier and the only person she trusted to go with her had gotten himself sick somehow. She'd decided he was the next best thing. If not only to keep him busy so he wouldn't get into in trouble. They would be leaving in two days and she didn't expect them to return until the end of the month, just before school would pick back up. He'd decided to look on the brighter side of things regarding the trip, maybe he'd get to spot some rare magical creatures. Ones they couldn't house at Hogwarts. Fine by him.
He'd been in the middle of packing when his mother had called him downstairs. A letter had arrived for him from Hogwarts. He'd been expecting it; now was about the time they sent out the supplies lists and announcements for the new school year. When he got downstairs, the envelope was a little bit bigger than he expected though. It didn't really. He tore open the envelope and began skimming the letter. His mother was still standing over him and waiting for him to speak or say something regarding the contents of the letter. The supplies list was on the first page along with a letter regarding the situation of the new year. The Ilvermorny students joining them. Not his concern, he picked it up and put it aside. The second page was one he'd hoped for. It was an announcement that he would be the co-captain for the Magical Creatures club. Not surprising but very much so pleasing. They would have been stupid if they'd have announced anyone else. It didn't say who his captain was but whoever it was wouldn't hold any power over him. He would be running the club. He would be dictating what happened. If they didn't like it, they could leave. He knew what was best for the creatures. And if the captain was any one of the dolts who'd been in the club last year, he knew for certain that he'd be a much better leader for the club. It was a shame that sixth years couldn't be captain.
There was third page that accompanying the information. He figured it was going to discuss the dormitory situation, something he knew would need to be worked out because of the fact that they were getting so many student. He skimmed the page and his eyebrows pushed down a bit when he saw the word 'Prefect' mentioned. There was no way... He sat the letter down and picked up the envelope the letters had come in. It still felt heavy. He tipped it over and out onto the counter fell a simple badge, silver and green with a giant P on it. They had to be joking, right? He picked up the letter once again and really read through it this time.Dear Mr/Ms ZAIRE SHAFIQ,

He was barely listening but his mother had noticed the badge and offered her approval of the fact that he'd been offered the position. She wanted him to take it.
Clearly they had gone mad. McGonagall had gone mad.
This could be good for him though. This could put him in a good position. He could use this, if not for more power then just for some amusement. He wondered who his co-Prefect would be for Slytherin. He had a few ideas in mind. He took out a piece of parchment and began writing his acceptance of the position. This year was going to be a lot more interesting than he'd thought.
