@callisto 11.16.2024 The scritch-scratch of the dog’s paw against Mina’s bedroom door woke her up. Titania, the poor thing, needed to be let out. Callisto normally would have done it, but Mina was positive her sister had the weekend shift at the hospital. Her eye lids were heavy with sleep and the dim morning light coming through the shades was already activating her headache. Waking up and immediately feeling the effects of the hangover meant this was going to be an absolutely lovely day. Aside from having trouble opening her eyes, rolling out of bed to take care of the dog was almost impossible with the burly arm of the man she had brought home last night wrapped around her. Mina had almost forgotten about that. It had been a while since she had done that, mostly because work the next morning always seemed to get in the way. She could deal with a hangover while running the cash register; trying to shoo a one-night stand out of her apartment at 5am when she was already late though? Even she wasn’t that willing to lose her job over a slam piece. Those would always be available to her if she stayed out long enough, while finding a job to take her on, did not.
Sliding under the dead-weight of the guy’s arm, Mina hit the ground and lazily waddled over to a pile of clothes laying on the floor, her dog meeting her half way to let out another whine that it needed to be let out. “Hold on,” Mina hissed in a whisper, trying not to wake…what was his name again? She decided it didn’t matter as she slid on the jeans and shirt she had on from the night before, quickly sneaking out of her bedroom and down the hallway towards the front door, her Samoyed right on her heels. There wasn’t time to throw a jacket on either, Mina efficiently snapping the leash around Titania’s collar and running her outside as quickly as possible. Callisto was already going to be irked about there being a ‘guest’ in the apartment, if she didn’t know already – but that would be the icing on top if the dog made a mess on the carpet. Merlin knows there had been dozens of conversations about that one already.
A walk ‘round the block and a smoke or two later, they were back inside, both happy that there weren’t going to be any more problems for a while. Back turned to the rest of the apartment as she pulled her shoes off, Titania pulled on her leash, doing a loop around Mina’s legs in wiggled excitement. Someone was obviously standing behind her. Probably the dude that was in her bed, if she had to take a guess. He was the only other person in the apartment other than herself. “Sorry if I woke you. Had to take the dog out.”

Callisto did have the weekend shift at the hospital, but something sent her home early... she had a panic attack, of sorts. She had never experienced anything like it before - suddenly not being able to think straight or even move her hands the way she needed to in order to write something down or cast a simple spell. No, suddenly after only six hours of working her body shut down. Why? Because she had walked into a patients room and the person looked so much like her brother, it sent her mind into a frenzy. This particular patient was so beat up and bloodied that he really could have been Dakota hidden under scars - but she knew it wasn't him. He was dead, Sarah had killed him, and Sarah hadn't come back. The truth of it all hit her hard and fast, more than it even had when she had found out what happened. Sebastian was with her parents, but sometimes with her, and Callisto didn't know what to do with him. He was her responsibility, she had decided that a long time ago. But what did she know about kids? Or dead brothers? Murderous sisters, parents she didn't think were good enough to raise a kid, a sister who would be a terrible influence if she had Sebastian move in with them, and love? What did she know about that? Loving Shawn? Loving Brandon? Loving Sebastian? Loving Mina? Was she qualified or equipped for any of it? So, after her healer colleagues dealt with her, they sent her home. It was the first time that she had ever been asked to leave work, and she was horrified by it. Her Head Healer assured her it happened to everyone, but she didn't like that any more than she liked leaving in the first place. She felt sick, inadequate and terrified of her life outside of the Hospital. But, she went home. She stepped in the door, and expected Titania to run up to her in greeting. She felt her stomach fall when the dog didn't come, and frowned. They must be back in Mina's room. She didn't take off her shoes, jacket, bag, anything before crossing down the hall and pushing Mina's door open. There was someone in her bed alright, but it was not Mina or Titania. Callisto felt rage boiling inside her. Tonight, of all nights, she had to bring some bar scum home? When Callisto really just needed... well, she didn't like to admit that she needed anything. She heard the front door open and turned around, moving back down the hall. Mina stopped as Titania wrapped around her legs with the leash. Mina spoke, and Callisto answered flatly. "He's probably too heavily sedated by whatever you two were drinking tonight to wake up."mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 The sound of Callisto’s voice meeting her ears sent shivers down Mina’s spine. It was a horrifying sensation, much worse than when their mum caught her smoking on the roof of their house one night when she was thirteen. Or when she bumped into Dakoda one evening when he was putting dishes away, and effectively caused him to drop all of their dinner plates, effectively forcing the family of seven to eat off of paper plates for the next few weeks. Oh! Or the time where she was almost booted out of school. That was her favorite by far. The look on her parents’ faces during that meeting was amazing, now that she looked back on it. Back then though, she was terrified, much like she was now. There was a certain way Callisto spoke when she was really pissed, and this was one of those times. The lack of any emotion in her tone was the scariest kind of reprimand. Ignoring her for a few more seconds, Mina finished untying her shoes, kicked them haphazardly onto the pile of assorted shoes next to the door, and finally turned to face her sister, making sure to stand up as straight as possible. Titania apparently thought it was time to heel and followed Mina’s movements, stopping stoically at her side, though her leash was still wrapped tightly around the girl’s legs.
“Morning Cal,” she fake yawned, covering her mouth with the back of her hand. “I think it’s something else that has him knocked out. It was quite an exhilarating evening.” Mina bit down on her lower lip to stop herself from laughing. She wasn’t going to hear the end of this for the next week or so. Obviously she didn’t see anything wrong in her actions; Callisto was supposed to be at work all weekend, why did it matter who came over in the mean time? It wasn’t like the guy was going to stick around long after waking up. They never did. Some went another round, others called it a day and went home, similarly to how she went about things if she woke up in a stranger’s house. Not like Cal would ever understand any of that. She was sure her sister and Shawn hadn’t even gotten past holding hands. The prudes. “So what are you doing back early? Did you finally kill someone on accident and get sent home?” she laughed as she bent over to unclip the leash from her dog’s collar. “If it’s a problem he’s here, I can wake him up and send him on his way. Would get me my whole bed back.”

Mina greeted her, claiming it was morning, and Callisto realized she didn't even know what time it was. Callisto always knew what time it was, so the thought jarred her for a moment. She quickly glanced at the clock on the wall. That was morning alright, earlier than she ever expected Mina to be awake... unless Mina was just coming home from the night before. That sometimes happened around 5 A.M. Mina further commented that it was something else that had knocked out her bed mate, an 'exhilarating evening'. Normally Callisto would have made a face of disgust at that comment, but her face was having trouble doing anything right now. Mina, on the other hand, was just as animated as ever, clearly trying not to laugh and enjoying her thoughts of the night previous. Very, very rarely Callisto sort of wished she could be like that; carefree. But no, she didn't really want that. "I see," was all she had to say in response at the thought of Mina's evening activities. Then Mina asked what she was doing back, suggesting that maybe Callisto finally killed someone and got sent him. No, Cal thought to herself, but I could have. That was the worst part of all of it. She wasn't on her top game, and that could cost someone their life. Mina's laugh only seemed to reach as far as six inches in front of Callisto, not quite accessing her emotions. Once Titania was free of her collar, the dog moved to greet Callisto with a lick on her hand, but Callisto didn't respond. Mina suggested sending the guy on his way, if it was an issue. Callisto finally unfroze, her body gaining a little of it's energy back. She shook her head, raising her hand to rub at her temples. "I just don't get it. How can you be so... so cavalier about people? They're human beings, not just..." she paused, shaking her head again and squeezing her eyes shut. "I just don't know if I can do this anymore."mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 Mina was starting to think that her sister may have actually killed someone in the last few hours. The lack of explosive criticism on her drinking habits and sex life was seriously confusing. That conversation always happened without fail, and now it was like it didn’t even matter. It was kind of boring, and Mina didn’t like it. What was the point of not arguing with Cal? That was why she did most things, to get a rise out of her. Today, everything was being brushed aside. Her comments, her laugh, and even her dog. Poor Titania only wanted a pat on the head and Callisto completely ignored her. Even though Mina despised being in a serious mood, she could tell that was where this was starting to go. The same thing had happened with the big talk back in school, when she was almost kicked out. Or when their parents finally stopped sending her money while she was abroad and forced her back home, only relenting to pay her plane ticket when she convinced them she could hold a steady job and stopped going out every night. Obviously having to room with Cal was to prevent the latter from happening, and she still had her job so the seriousness worked out in the end. But this was different, and Mina wasn’t sure why.
Callisto finally went at her, though not in her normal tone. It was more a statement as she apparently tried to figure out how Mina went about things. All she could do was frown at her sister, unsure of how to answer. Because she could? Because it was fun? Because stopping her lifestyle would be like killing herself socially, and she needed to socialize in order to make it from day to day. “If you don’t want me living here anymore, just say it,” Mina blurted out, her voice starting to get defensive. “Then you won’t have to deal with my problems and I won’t leave a bad impression on Seb or whatever.” And he could have his own room. What Sarah had done was shitty, but the kid was better with Cal and their parents than with her. With one road block out of the way, it was only obvious that Mina would be the next to go. Sebastian had seen enough crap from his mother in the last couple of years and he didn’t need to see it with her too. There was no way Cal hadn’t thought about this already. Laughing awkwardly, Mina continued, “You’re getting really lucky these days Cal. Sarah is finally gone, Dakoda broke up with Ophelia, and you have both Shawn and Seb in your life. Guess it was going to be my time eventually, right?” Letting out sigh and trying not to look her sister in the eyes, Mina left the front entrance and headed towards the kitchen. “I need another drink,” she muttered to herself, hands wobbly as she reached for a half-empty bottle of whiskey that she had purchased a few days earlier. Maybe day drinking would be the final nail in the coffin that Callisto needed to kick her out. Couldn’t hurt at this point.

Callisto was exhausted, and she knew she was only going to get more-so if she let herself have this conversation with her sister right now. But it had already started, and she was already spiraling. Mina just frowned at her, and started to get defensive. And why wouldn't she? Callisto wasn't being clear about how she was feeling. She was being vague and emotional - two things she hated being. Mina spoke about how Cal wouldn't have to 'deal with her problems' and that she wouldn't have a 'bad impression' on Seb anymore if Callisto just left. Seb was around much more often now, of course, even though Mina didn't know the exact reason why or how long it would last. Cal shook her head, and found herself moving to take a seat in the nearest chair. Her shoulders slouched, which they rarely did, and she leaned forward as Mina laughed awkwardly and continued on. Mina felt like Callisto wanted to get rid of her? Because now she had Shawn and Seb and Dakoda and Sarah were gone... Callisto shook her head again and Mina mentioned needing a drink. Callisto stood then, crossing over to grab two glasses and placing them in front of Mina. "Pour two," she said, her voice shaky now. "I... don't want to leave. I don't want you to leave I just..." she turned away, flattening her hands on the table so that they wouldn't shake. "I haven't been honest with you and I don't know how to tell you," she knew she probably sounded insane, but it was all true. Dakoda is dead. Sarah killed him. She's not coming back. He's never coming back. Why couldn't she just say this out loud? mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 Callisto could shake her head all she wanted to, it wouldn’t make a difference. Doing and saying were two very different things, and Mina was well aware that her time in the apartment would come to an end at some point. The second Cal started seeing Shawn was when she realized that things would start wrapping up eventually, even if her sister hadn’t explicitly stated it yet. It was a space thing, something they had never really had much of growing up or in school. Or even now, really. The last time Mina had anything remotely close to her own personal time was when she ran off after graduation. She was sure Cal felt the same way; first she was burdened with Mina having to live with her and now she had Sebastian as well. One child after the next. Her mood was plummeting fast and she was becoming more irritated by the what-ifs than from what was actually being said aloud. Again, that didn’t matter since it those things were going to happen eventually. She knew they would.
As she stabilized the whiskey bottle on the counter and started to reach for a glass, Callisto’s hands beat her to it, two of them placed right in front of the alcohol. So she was going to be drinking now too. Cal could repeat herself a billion times about not wanting anyone to leave, but that wasn’t true at all. The bottle was back in Mina’s hands as she steadily poured the first glass, the second spilling a little as her sister said she hadn’t been truthful about something. All she could fathom was that this was going to be the ultimatum speech. That was the only reason Cal would drink this early in the morning. “Just spit it out,” Mina huffed aggressively as she pounded back the whiskey. The warm burn at the back of her throat would start to push the pity-party in her head to the side in a few minutes. The second glass she began to pour would protect her from whatever Callisto was about to slug her with.

Mina poured into the glasses, Callistos eyes catching as the second one was split a little. Mina told her to just spit it out, her tone harsh as she quickly took the shot of whiskey. Callisto reached for the other glass and drank it, slower than Mina had. Mina had already filled the second glass by the time Callisto set hers down again. But Callisto didn't speak for another moment. She gritted her teeth, "ugh!" she exclaimed in frustration. Slapping the counter with one hand and turning away from Mina, leaning her back against the counter instead. She reached up toward her face, rubbing at her temples with her thumb and forefinger. "I don't know why this is so difficult," she muttered in frustration. She did know, though. Callisto wasn't one to share emotions, at least not these kind of emotions. Sorrow, or whatever it was they were about to be dealing with. Callisto knew how to be angry, disappointed, to judge... but to feel a real, deep sadness and share that with someone? That wasn't something she was mentally or emotionally equipped for. Doing this with Mina would be hard enough, she didn't even want to think about Issy. She turned her attention back to Mina, "you're just... not ready. You're not ready," she decided, and she turned away, starting to move out of the room, toward the hall... mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 The shot she had poured for Callisto was drank in Callisto fashion: slowly and mechanically. A shot was a shot, and was supposed to be consumed like a shot, which was instantly. Hopefully this wasn’t being done on purpose to aggravate her, which was definitely a good way to get Mina riled up all over again. The second shot she had poured for herself assisted in getting out of that mindset, it following closely behind the first and before her sister could complete her own. “It’s difficult because you’re making it difficult,” she muttered under her breath as she turned to pour her third shot in as many seconds. Cal was going to have to hurry up here, or she wasn’t going to have a sober ear to listen to whatever it was she wanted to say. Getting day drunk was easy, especially after a night out. Mina had done it plenty of times to shirk her responsibilities on the weekends. Doing so today wouldn’t be any different than all those other times.
Whatever it was Callisto had to say, it clearly wasn’t important enough to grace Mina with it. Callisto was walking out of the kitchen, back towards the hallway, running from the ‘thing’. Mina wasn’t going to let that happen, her third shot now knocked back, her body reacting violently to the sudden introduction of more alcohol into it. “You did kill someone at work didn’t you?” she forced out as she shook off the shot’s after effects. The alternative would have been that her sister was pregnant, but the drink she had just had said otherwise. “And you’ll be killing me by not telling me Cal. I could die tomorrow, and it would eat you up inside because I’m ‘not ready’ to know, or whatever.” She added air quotes to the ‘not ready’. She was an adult. Maybe a shit adult, but still an adult. She could handle almost anything. Like a fourth shot, which she began pouring during Callisto’s indecision.

Mina said it was difficult because Cal was making it difficult, and she didn't even know what she was trying to say. Of course, Mina was muttering that sentiment - not saying it directly to her face - so Cal didn't respond. Mina poured another drink and Callisto considered asking for one more, but didn't. She needed a clear head if she was actually going to try and get through this. Mina asked if she killed someone at work, and Cal shook her head. Then Mina said Cal would be 'killing her' by not telling her, or that she could die tomorrow and Cal would feel guilty forever about not telling her. Cal stopped in her walk toward her room, turning back to face her sister. "It's about Dakota," she finally said. She couldn't meet Mina's eyes, so she looked down at the bottle next to her sister on the counter. "He's... not coming back home. Ever," wow, could she thought of a more depressing way to say it? She looked up at Minas face, "he's dead. And I'm pretty sure it was Sarah who did it," her voice was flatter than she meant it to be, but she was afraid if she let the emotion seep in that she wouldn't be able to get through it. mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 Mina didn’t see Callisto stop and turn back around. She was too preoccupied with pouring that fourth shot. She needed it right now. The sudden introduction of anger this early in the morning was making her headache from earlier come back, and she really didn’t want to shoo off her bang buddy with a nasty hangover. Employing Cal to do it was out of the question now too, so getting drunk again was the only possible answer. Nobody wanted to wake up and suddenly have to deal with a drunk person. That would have him running out of the apartment at warp speed, Titania probably on his heels happily barking. She did a good job of being the playful protector for Mina, though was absolutely useless in almost everything else. Currently she was crashed on the couch, head flopped over the armrest as she watched whatever it was Mina and Callisto were getting into.
She put down the fourth shot as Callisto said her hesitance was about Dakoda. That was great. Was he finally coming home? Thankfully she didn’t have time to ask that, because the answer was that he was not. Ever. Because Sarah apparently killed him. Mina rolled her eyes as she placed the shot glass down on the countertop, using the edge of the sink to hold herself still. The shots were starting to catch up to her now. “Right. And that’s why she dumped Seb on you and mum and dad. Makes complete sense Cal. You’re talking nonsense, and I’m the one getting really fucking drunk right now.” Why was it so hard for her to tell the truth? Deflecting her own problems by making up some bullshit story about Koda and Sarah was pathetic. “Since apparently we can’t have a real talk, I am going to keep drinking,” she lifted the bottle up to her lips this time, taking a swig, “And you are going to go sleep off whatever shitty shift you just had and we’ll talk about the problem you have with me later, okay?” Waving her hand at Cal, she started to leave the kitchen and head towards the couch, bottle in hand, so that she could sit down with her dog. The pooch was stubborn as hell, but at least she would love Mina back unconditionally and couldn’t lie.

Mina... didn't believe her. What? What on earth was Cal supposed to do about that? Mina, sarcastically, deducted that this was why Seb was now under Cal and their parents control - but she was just patronizing her. She said Cal was talking nonsense and clearly Cal wasn't drunk enough to justify that. Callistos eyes started to water, and Mina said she was going to keep drinking because they couldn't have a real conversation. She told Callisto to go to sleep and that they'd talk later. Mina waved her hand and started to leave. It took Callisto almost a moment too long to regain her bearings, but she was able to. At least enough to speak again, "I'm not messing with you about this, Mina. I have proof," she said, her tone surprisingly steady for how awful she was feeling. She raised a hand and gestured. Dakoda's wand floated out of her bag that she had set down by the door. Callisto gestured again and the wand changed course, slowly floating toward Mina. It hovered in front of her sister, waiting to be examined. It was broken - cracked along the middle long ways. mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 The silence that followed the appearance of their brother’s wand was Mina trying to process everything Callisto had told her once again, along with the new information. It looked like his wand and Cal said it was his wand, so it must have been his wand. And the reason he didn’t have the wand was because he was dead, just as she had laid out moments earlier, possibly killed by Sarah who had dumped Sebastian on their door step. None of that was what convinced her that Callisto was actually telling the truth – it was the look on her face. She had never seen her like that before. Despite the steady tone in which she had been delivering all her lines, Callisto actually looked like hell while trying to hold it all together. Callisto never looked like hell because she was supposed to be the poster child for hell. Mina was close enough to see the glint of tears welling up in her sister’s eyes, and she knew they weren’t because of the terrible things she had just said, but rather from the gravity of the situation.
“I-” Mina started but found herself at a loss of what to say. Her whole body felt heavy as she realized the weight of everything that had been said between them. How awful she was being. How Callisto was right and Dakoda was dead. Her stomach felt like it was ready to flip the second Callisto confirmed that she was indeed, sure that their brother was dead. The four shots and the previous night’s liquor was at a dangerously high point and if she was going to lose, she was going to lose it all. “A-Are you sure?” she fought back, voice starting to quiver as she tried to postpone the tears for a few more seconds. If they didn’t fall then it wasn’t a reality, right?

Callisto watched Mina assess the wand, but Mina seemed to be assessing her instead. Callisto didn't try to hide her feelings that much in this moment, but of course she didn't let them get away from her either. They were just obvious enough that Mina would be able to see just how true this was. Mina started to talk, and Callisto didn't interrupt her, waiting for her sister to get a whole sentence out. When the question came, Callisto nodded. "I'm sure about him. Still speculating if it was her," she admitted. "Mum and dad actually got official papers for Sebastians custody last month. Delivered without a return address, but with her signature," Callisto explained, and the weakness in her body finally started to make her knees shake a little. She moved to the nearest chair, letting herself almost slam onto it. "And he.. mum and dad don't know yet," she explained, "but someone sent me... I destroyed it," she admitted, looking down at her hands, "but she sent me how. She told me how," she said, not bothering to pretend it WASN'T Sarah. In her gut she knew that it was. "I didn't tell you. I haven't told anyone," she admitted, her voice growing quieter and quieter. mina pandora oliveira

@callisto 11.16.2024 The part about Sebastian and custody papers went completely unnoticed by Mina, her ears only registering the names and who it involved. Cal was positive. Absolutely one-hundred percent sure Dakoda was dead. Gone forever. She was saying something about knowing it was true because the person had sent more proof. More than the wand. Something Cal didn’t want anyone else to see. Mina couldn’t even imagine what that might have been. Proof so compelling that it didn’t need to be seen by anyone else in the family. She didn’t want to know what sort of horror that was, or even what Callisto had to bear witness to. “I need uhh...I think I need another drink,” she murmured, turning slowly on her heel and blindly reaching out for the part of the kitchen counter where she had left the bottle of whisky moments earlier. Her head was in a haze that she had never experienced before; completely devoid of anything but her brother’s name and the word gone, going over and over and over again. Her imagination was already getting the best of her, images of Sarah standing over him and killing him without even hesitating. It made too much sense, and if Cal thought it was her, than it had to be her. Of course Sarah could do it. She would do it. The real question had always been when she would do it.
Hands fumbling for the bottle, Mina attempted to pour another shot but her hands were shaking too much, the liquid spilling all over the counter until she finally gave up, slamming it back down where it had been. “Fuck!” she screamed, the fit of rage over her clumsiness finally allowing the flood of tears to come out. Sinking to the floor, Mina pulled her legs towards her and buried her head in her arms, letting it all out.
