As an only child, summers alone away from Ilvermorny, in the Novell household was quiet and lonely for Zenevieva. Though, with the start of another school year approaching, meant another series of textbooks that Zenevieva could power through or even perhaps skim through Gilderoy Lockhart Sr’s novels once more. As if she hasn’t read through them a million times. Now, with the first few months of Zenevieva’s fifth year already gone, the Novell girl believed her fifth year would just be like her previous. Plain and simple. Boring enough for her to improve her intelligence and still remain to have terrible social skills.
Though, by November – it all changed. The half-vampire was soon meant with small amounts of bullying, being teased by a small clique of Mean Girls. Bianca Daniel being one of those girls. Daily, she would suffer under the hands of the Daniel’s cruel words and find herself camped up in the Horned Serpent's common room to avoid the bully from bothering her any further – or seeing her cry.
Now, with books in her hand from the Charms class she just left – the brunette walked down the steps, heading towards the Great Hall; her stomach softly rumbling as if it were an alarm – just in time for lunch. As her feet pressed against the marble floors quietly, the rush of students resulted with green eyes widening. Zenevieva was sure Ilvermorny somehow allowed more students in than usual, but noticed the first years with adorable confusion washed over their face.
While each table was filled with students of all ages, Zenevieva still somehow to avoid speaking to anyone. Placing her books down first, she brushed her blueberry coloured robes to the side, allowing her legs to extend and slide within the bench-like-seat. Her eyes scanned the enlarged room briefly, in hope that Bianca and her crew were still stuck within a class and began to eat, grateful for magic and its benefits that fuel Zen’s laziness.
As the Novell girl ate, a pale hand rested on top of the book she had just received, fingers brushing against the pages lightly as opened it; green eyes scanning each page, going over lines that she had already memorised.

WHILE ELI HAD AN AWFUL PROBLEM RUNNING late for classes and exams and anything important, he was rarely late for meal times. Be it his voracious appetite, or that it was one of the only 'classes' he never failed, Eli was there right on time. Or at least, mostly. On this particular day Eli was running late.
The halls were unusually quiet as he strode through them towards the cafeteria. He really ought to wear a watch, because sometimes simply watching the sun move across the sky was not an effective time-keeper. The grumbling in his stomach was, however, unmistakable and in the end it was this that drew him back towards the main building. By the time he entered the dining room every table was virtually full.
Eli strained his head over the crowd, frowning as he tried to find a familiar face among the fray. He spotted a few, but none with an open seat beside them. Everybody was huddled close, knees and elbows knocking as they spoke and ate. It was strangely isolating and Eli frowned slightly, suddenly very aware of the grass stains on his knees, elbows and back, the dirt under his fingernails. He headed for the table nearest the door. But, when he spotted a spare seat he frowned. Sitting beside it, nose in a book, was somebody Eli found acutely familiar.
A smile had managed crawl across Eli's face, fuelled by curiosity as he slid clumsily in to the bench beside her. His hand landed with a thump on the table between them and he shovelled food on to his plate with the other. A large slice of crusty bread and a bowls worth of rich stew. Tapping the fingers of his hand, he tilted his head, a spoon already clutched in the other. "Hey!" He said jovially, eager to get her attention so he could see her whole face. "I know you." Confidence clear in his tone as he turned his body sideways, knee curled under him.

The sounds of a stranger’s voice beside her intruded Zenevieva’s ears, leading with the fifth-year girl looking up from the book that held her attention. Her green eyes looked at the corner of her eye before piercing through the green eyes with just the slightest tint of hazel that belonged to the voice before softening her gaze at him. While the other claimed to know her, the Novell was one-hundred percent sure she had no clue who he was. Though, from what Zen gathered just from a simple hello, he seemed to be older or at least acted older. ”Hello…” She responded with a dull tone. Zen had no clue how to respond to many kinds of people – people who were bullying her or even remarkably had some kind of attention in her were given the same treatment. Curse her bad socialising skills.
Pushing her thumb lightly against one side of her book, the spine of the novel soon flopped over to the other side as she closed it before bringing it to her chest as if it gave her some kind of protection. As if a vampire needs protection She thought to herself while gave herself the mental reminder that she was indeed half. ”You…Do?” Zenevieva questioned, a brow raising out of confusion as she turned her body in his direction. The food that lifelessly sat on her plate grew colder by the minute and soon Zen was cursing her stomach for refusing such good food. Sometimes during the month when her blood craving was rather high, her body would refuse to allow her to eat one mundane thing. Not even toast.
Out of habit, the brunette found herself questioning: ”Are you…Friends with Bianca?” - Zen had to make sure, just to verify that the other person’s approach was nothing more than a prank. That seemed to be happening a lot lately – people approaching the Novell girl ’seeking friendship’ until they reveal Bianca’s plan and welcome her with another glitter charm. God she hated them.

WITH THE SPOON HALFWAY TOWARDS HIS mouth Eli stopped. He had been sure he knew her face, there was something so familiar about it. But, the flat and unflappable reply he was given made him doubt himself. He nodded once, a halfhearted thing, before going for a second, more confident nod. Yes, he definitely knew her, though he still wasn't sure from where. Eli never forgot a face, but he was prone to forgetting names.
"Yeah... I do." He said with a shaky confidence, though it probably didn't help that he couldn't tell from where. She seemed to be having an even rougher time placing him, which stung just a little bit. Did he have a forgettable face? "I don't know from where, though..." He said with a nervous laugh, reaching up to ruffle his shaggy brown hair.
Though Eli stopped short when she seemed to lean away from him, the next words out of her mouth making him frown immediately. "No!" He exclaimed, over-eager to make sure he was not associated with Bianca Daniel in any way, shape or form. "Jeez, do I look that bad?" He turned away and busied his mouth by taking a bite from his corner of crusty bread. He chewed as he thought, eyeing the other girl from the corner of his eye. The thing was, the moment she had mentioned Bianca something had begun to occur to Eli. When he turned back around, it was with a new answer.
"Okay, I remember where I know you from." He said suddenly, breaking the awkward silence that had befell them as he swallowed a mouthful of dry bread. "Remember like, two weeks ago... just outside the charms wing?" He recalled to her the time when he'd been sprinting across the courtyard and nearly barrelled clean over a tiny fifth year in an attempt to hide behind a pillar. As it turned out they were both hiding from the same people. Bianca, Katherine, the whole lot of them sauntering past like the owned the place, as they did. Eli had held his breath and for a moment they had caught each others eye with a look of understanding. Both victims of the same group of people. "I was hiding and... so were you?" He said this like it was a question, in case he'd gotten it entirely wrong, but one look at her face and the way she;d looked when she'd said the name 'Bianca' made it obvious to him. She was that fifth year.

The lips that once spoke soon formed a thin line as Zenevieva’s eyes examined the person seated beside her. Once he mentioned that he too had no idea where he knew her from, the Novell girl turned slowly, her eyes trying to focus on something else as she remained quiet out of nervousness. But when he questioned if he truthfully looked bad – Zen couldn’t help but shrug. ”Most people I think are nice turn out to be…” She murmured, the fork resting in her hand gliding through the food on her plate – playing with it.
Eyes soon began to widen as a familiar event was refreshed in the half-vampire’s mind. Out of habit she bit down on her bottom lip before her eyes reached to the other corner, looking at the boy beside her. Instead of speaking, she nodded – their eyes locked onto one another just like that moment just weeks before. ”I remember.” She whispered, breathing in rather heavy.
In an attempt to calm herself down, Zenevieva released her deep breath before completely turning to the sixth year, her hands crossed before her. ”Why were you hiding from them?” To Bianca, Katherine and the lot, Zeneveiva was a ‘sparkly’ quiet girl. The fact that she was also half-vampire didn’t seem to bother them or fuel the bullying, but more so their anger whenever Zen didn’t fight back.

IT WASN'T ALWAYS VERY HELPFUL BUT ELI DIDN'T like to think of people as 'bad'. It wasn't his first instinct, he always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. Obviously, not everybody deserved it, and it didn't always work out for him but, there was an enthusiastic part of him he simply couldn't get rid of. And honestly, he hadn't ever really tried. So when Zen admitted that she hadn't met very many nice people, Eli felt a surge of dejection for her.
"Oh..." He muttered, his smile dropping for a moment, before he encouraged it back in to place. Though it was rather tentative the second time around. "That sucks." He couldn't think of anything better to say, he wasn't exactly the best wordsmith. He began thinking that maybe he shouldn't have intruded. She was probably just having a bad day. Alas, he was a lot worse at exits than entrances. Shifting in his seat, he shoved a handful of bread in to his mouth awkwardly.
In the end, once he'd forced the bread down his throat, Eli figured perhaps she might warm to him once he'd revealed how he knew her. It had come to him a lot slower than he'd have liked, and he felt like a bit of an idiot by the time he revealed the truth. It didn't go at all as planned.
"Hey, hey sorry." He said in a rush, his hand lifting and then hoovering as he stopped himself from patting her shoulder in comfort. They didn't really know each other. "Jeez, I'm really screwing this up, huh?" He swallowed, feeling the urge to smack in own forehead, but ruffling his hair instead. He tugged at the back until it hurt just a little bit, a hot feeling of shame creeping up his neck and face. "I shouldn't have said anything." He shifted in his seat and looked away, scraping his spoon in his stew but not daring to take a bite. He wasn't feeling very hungry any more.
Looking down at his plate, Eli laughed nervously, fidgeting with the edge of his bowl as he turned it and turned it. He watched the stew and vegetables bob as he did. "Uh..." With a shrug, Eli struggled with how best to form his reply. Why had he been hiding? He figured he owed her the truth, especially after putting her in such a funny mood by opening his big mouth. "They're just nasty, you know?" He turned his head towards her, though it was still bowed and his hair fell in to his face a little bit. "They call me 'Phlegm-ing.' Or 'Phlegm-Boy'" Unfortunately, he cleared his throat then, gesturing with his spoon wielding hand as he forced himself to continue. "Like... you know... the spit?"
Shaking his head rapidly, Eli tried his best to muster a smile. "My names Elijah Fleming, you know?" He said, as way of explanation. It was just the beginning that stung a bit, once he got started it was easier to continue. "So, obviously, it's the best joke they've ever heard." He made sure she caught his severe eye roll at that, clacking his spoon against the side of his bowl as he blew out a breath. "Honestly, if they weren't so happy making people miserable..." His spoon was waving like a wand, punctuating his rant with every word. "They'd make rotten stand up comedians for a living." He snorted nastily at that, quirking his brows. Perhaps he and the girl had more in common than he'd thought.

A comfortable smile rested on the brunette’s lips in Elijah’s attempt to fix the situation. She felt honoured that he noticed her discomfort and even paid attention to how she responded. So, when she watched the curly-haired boy bite into the bread, a laugh left Zen’s lips unexpectedly. In a response, Zenevieva shook her head, turning her head towards him. ”It’s okay. I just hate to talk about them…” She admitted. The last thing she wanted to hear or even experience was either bully approaching her with news of Zen’s conversation with Elijah.
Though a rush of sympathy clutched at the Novell’s strange-beating heart and she could have sworn her eyes almost swelled up with tears. ”They’re so cruel…” she mumbled to herself, turning her body slightly so she faced the Fleming boy completely. A pale hand drew up her leg so it slightly crossed over the other but so she could rest on it as well. ”They think anything is funny.” After a short pause, Zenevieva found herself looking around the hall of Ilvermorny, watching other kids dive into conversation and eat – the spoon that rested in the mush of her food suddenly becoming more appealing to her. ”I…I like your name.” She murmured softly.
The snort from Elijah was followed with a small smile on Zen’s side and hesitantly she extended her arm, her hand held open ready to shake his. ” I’m Zenevieva Novell.” It was unusual of Zen to find herself talking to others, especially those who would try to absorb her precious reading time with mere conversation but Elijah felt different – considering she had hid with him before.
”But…to the stand up comedians of Ilvermorny, some call me Sparkly, some call me Nerd, and some call me both.” Being half of a Dark creature was usually seen as cool or fascinating, but not having the confidence to flaunt about it made her subject to extra nicknames while being teased or picked on. ”It’s not part of their best act, but it has many hits.”

ELI COULD MOST DEFINITELY RELATE TO THE GIRL, except perhaps for his inability not to talk about the people who attempted to make his life miserable. Once Eli got going, it was almost impossible for him to shut his mouth. Hence the help of the bread, but at the very least she seemed a little less uncomfortable when he tried to explain. Appearing less likely to leave him in the dust. He sighed in relief, nodding gravely as he agreed on their bullies's cruelty. Mirroring her when she turned towards him more completely.
"I think it just comes naturally to them," He muttered, shaking his head as he watched her scan the room carefully. He wondered if she was looking for them, like they might somehow know they were speaking about them. He found himself looking around too, though a lot less subtlety. When he turned back it was with a breathless laugh, reaching up to pull at his earlobe nervously as he replied, "Uh, thanks, I'm glad somebody does." He thought maybe at most his mum liked it best, but that was probably it.
It surprised Eli when Zenevieva held out her hand for him to shake. Eli couldn't help but smile as he took it and shook it, finding the entire exchange endearingly formal. He couldn't remember the last time anybody had offered him anything more professional than a crisp high five. "I like your name, too." Eli said, because he did and he thought maybe it would be nice for her to hear. "It sounds like... a really cool spell or something." Eli wasn't very good at Charms, but he thought it wouldn't be terribly misplaced in a very old and leather bound book.
"Spark-?" Eli shook his head with an unimpressed frown on his face. "I don't get it." But he thought briefly that it probably didn't matter whether or not it made sense, just that it hurt. "Definitely their worst work yet." Eli rolled his eyes, tearing off another chunk of bread and chewing it thoughtfully. "And, I mean, people only call people nerds when they don't get something they get, you know?" He was rambling, a hunk of bread in his cheek as he waved the other half in the air as if to punctuate his point. "I mean, when did reading and stuff become uncool?"

Bullies had always been a part of Zenevieva’s life even before the start of her education back in Ilvermorny. Her family – filled with half-bloods and the odd pureblood grandmother and grandfather were the ones to usually share their comments first, filled with side glances and even uncertainty when they looked upon her mother – for family greetings, holidays…The whole lot. While the Novell was rather small at the time – maybe at least five or six years of age – she somehow remembered it all.
”Naturally? You think they just wake up in the morning and decide to butcher a name for the fun of it?” It had always been a curious thing for Zenevieva, questions like: why was she being bullied? or why did anyone fall victim to their stupid bullying? But when green eyes watched Elijah tug at his ear, Zen couldn’t help but giggle just a tad bit. ”It’s a nice name. You can have so many cool nicknames.” Definitely something like Eli, which Zen thought was a cool name.
The hand shake between the two of them felt formal with drops of informality just sweeping its way in. Zen didn’t really have many opportunities to make friends, nor did she know exactly how to. But when she saw Elijah light up at their exchange of names, she couldn’t help but smile. ”T-Thanks.” She blushed, taking in the compliment of her name. To Zenevieva, the brunette’s name was an entire mouthful, hence the nickname Zen…Nerd…Sparkles…Whatever bullies or friends were feeling that day. But the reference of her name to a spell reminded her of a time a professor said exactly that. ”I wish.” She began. ”It apparently means…White wave. My parents were in love with the ocean but never spent a lot of time there once they settled down.”
Sparkles or Sparkly was a reference to that decades-old-movie franchise Twilight and so Zenevieva found herself repeating the exact same thing to Elijah. She did somewhat leave out the detail of her own half-vampirism, half-dark-creature-ism – however it was phrased. ”Nope…The worst work was a glitter charm on me. Somehow found a way to cast it every day in the courtyards back home.” Hence where the nickname deprived from. ”I suppose.” Zen murmured, playing with the slop of food resting on her plate before reaching out for a piece of bread, just like the other. ”In their eyes, reading isn’t uncool. But it’s when you do it everyday…Seem to know everything and are quiet, is when you become a target.”

IT UNSETTLED ELI TO THINK SO, BUT HE DIDN'T know if any alternative. They were just naturally drawn to cruelty. So he shrugged at Zenevieva, because it was all he had to offer. What other explanation was there? He doubted they had thought about it very hard, only looking for a quick laugh to tide them over - at their expense.
But, Zen somehow made him feel better about it, giggling as she complimented him. Even if he didn't know how to take it. "I guess," He shrugged with a little small smile. "I don't think any of my friends have called me Elijah in years." He went by Eli almost exclusively, not because of a particular dislike, but he felt like more of a Eli then an Elijah most days. "They call me Eli."
And while he thought her name was pretty, it was sort of long. And he wondered if she had a nickname too. "So, do you prefer Zenevieva?" He thought maybe she would, since so many people chose to call her different names. He wouldn't blame her if she did. It had a pretty meaning too. Eli didn't know what his name meant, other than the fact that it had been his grandfather's name before him, carried on as many traditions were. "Twilight?" Eli asked, his face scrunched in confusion. The only muggle movies he watched were old VHS tapes with his mum. They didn't interact much with muggle technology, and Eli spent so much time outdoors that he'd never felt the desire too. But, according to Zenevieva it was about glittery vampires. "That's..." He frowned, shaking his head. "That sounds terrible." That people would make fun of her over something so trivial. "Is it because you liked the movie?"
As for reading, he couldn't much relate, but he didn't understand why it'd be used so heavily against her. "So, you can't be too smart, you can't be too dumb." He weighed both in his hands. "What can you be?" He'd been called stupid, she'd been called a nerd. There seemed to be no middle ground where either were safe. At least she was safe with him, he had no problem being friends with a big reader.

Being quiet and a person filled with uncertainty, especially now without the guidance of a mother or father and instead relying on an anxious aunt, Zen wished life would work out differently for her. What if she was loud? Popular even? Would her life been better? Especially after her parent’s death? ”Do you…Hate Elijah? Being called it?” She asked, brows raising. ”Or are you just so used to the nickname?” To Zen, Eli was a pretty cool name. The brunette was glad she could have such a strange conversation with the elder Ilvermorny student, but felt relieved at his distractions - their conversation at hand - instead of thinking of her bullies.
His giggle tugged at a smile forming on her own lips while the Novell’s hand continued to play with her food. Loss of appetite was normal for her, especially with her anxiety eating away at her insides. ”I like my name…” She began as she trailed off. ”It’s just too…Long…” Pushing her hair away from her face, resting the stray strands behind her ears, the half-vampire looked up at Eli a small smile on her lips. ”The friends I actually have…Call me Zen.” Zen was simple for her, definitely a lot easier than correcting people’s pronunciation as they butchered her name.
”It’s a Muggle vampire movie franchise. Terrible books.” She clarified, being a half-blood and being surrounded by other half-bloods, both of Zen’s parents believed it would be best for the young girl to stay in touch with her ‘muggle’ side as a child, hence her discovery of the movie. But Zenevieva always wondered of a life where vampires sparkled instead of burned. It would have most definitely been a strange experience, but it was something she could kill for rather than to see her mother writhe in pain. ”I didn’t really…Enjoy it…” She coughed gently as she paused, composing herself. ”But since I’m somewhat like them…Let’s just say Bianca and her friends were rather disappointed when I sunburned instead of sparkled.”
In a response, she found herself nodding. It was stupid really - being judged for anything was pointless unless there was a crime at hand. Was school bullying technically one? ”Popular and pretty I suppose.” With no middle ground for either of them, Zen was always left speechless whenever her bullies would pick apart her intelligence. There was nothing she could say that would outsmart them or something that would present her as completely and utterly stupid. Bullies tended to pull you apart for truly nothing.

FUNNILY ENOUGH ELI HAD NEVER REALLY GIVEN much thought about whether or not he hated his full name. It stumped him for a second, his bottom lip pouting slightly as he considered it. "No- no I don't think I do." He half-laughed at that, shaking his head as he realised how ridiculous he sounded. "I mean, yeah. Eli's just what everyone's called me since..." He blinked rapidly. "I can't remember." It was a bit of a mouthful, he guessed, but it wasn't bad. Just... unfamiliar somehow. "Maybe I- it kind of feels a bit fancy for me?" He wrinkled his nose and shook his head so-so. He laughed it off.
"I like it, too!" Eli tried to assure her, a smile on his face. At least he'd made her laugh. But, he had to admit, it was a little long. He wasn't too surprised when he revealed she had a nickname of her own. "Zen..." He mulled it over, nodding his head in appreciation as he did. "I like it, it's... chill." He quirked his brows at his own bad joke, a snicker squeezing out of the corners of his mouth as he dipped his head. But, he didn't take it back either.
The whole book and movie deal confused Eli. Then again, most of the things Bianca and her friends did confused Eli. Even Ashley, sometimes. He clunked his tongue, shaking his head in disapproval as he toyed with a baby carrot on his plate. "That's stupid." He muttered, not really knowing what else to say. And then something occurred to him a moment too late. "Wait, sunburn?" He said, perking up slightly as he thought about what that meant. He dipped his chin covertly, lowering his voice in case someone might overhear him. "Are you like... a vampire?" And then he shook his head and leaned back, remembering how shy she was. "You don't have to answer that." He interjected awkwardly, stuffing the baby carrot in to his mouth and chewing loudly.
Though, as he swallowed and tried to change the subject by asking an inane, almost unanswerable question he stopped. Turning slightly, he regarded her for a moment before scoffing. "But you are pretty." He said matter-of-factly. She had lovely dark hair and fair skin, and Eli wasn't blind either. He wasn't trying to make her feel better so much as stating a fact. "I don't think it matters either way, though." He'd meant what he'd said before. "People like that, you just can't argue with their weird logic." He shrugged his shoulders, past feeling bad about things he couldn't control. "Screw 'em."

Zenevieva decided there and then, she liked the way Eli’s nose would wrinkle, forming the familiar lines upon it. But with their conversation surrounding his name and the ridiculousness of it all, she couldn’t help but let out a few laughs here and there. While Elijah wasn’t exactly a common name, it wasn’t a name that usually provided a nickname. Or so Zen thought. Though, she liked Eli’s. ”I understand.” She smiled, understanding his name dilemma. Zen had been a staple nickname for the young Novell since birth—almost, only because of the many different pronunciations she was used to hearing from her parents friends and even during her first year in Ilvermorny.
The compliment led to a small blush crossing the fifth year’s cheeks, while her lips muttered a small ”Thank you”. Green eyes watched as he spoke of her nickname, reflecting on it like most people do when they’re introduced to it. The action itself left a smile on the Novell’s lips, followed by a brief laugh at Eli’s lame joke. ”That was lame.” She pointed out, her teeth biting into her bottom lip as she held back a fit of giggles.
Zenevieva nodded in agreement, but then again, bullies felt the need to pick upon the smallest things in an attempt to make you feel like trash. And boy did it work rather well against her. Each confrontation with Bianca or even her bully friends led to the well up of tears, the ones that threatened to leave but didn’t exactly do so until the danger disappeared. And with Bianca’s followers around Zen almost anywhere, regardless of house, no where was really safe to cry. Turning her head slightly so she caught onto the low tone a little clearer, Zen couldn’t help but force a smile with his question. The revelation had been out there for sometime now, but even before Bianca’s harshness, a handful of people knew of Zen’s origin. Mainly Professors of course. But it still fumbled Zen as to why most of them seemed a bit iffy around her. It’s not like she was drinking their blood.
”Half.” She mumbled, ignoring his addition as she looked away. It didn’t bother the Novell when questions were asked, simply because people were curious about anything. Just like how Zen was curious of how history produced the things Wizards had today. But with the shift in the topic that she was rather grateful for, the Novell swallowed a dry lump, her small faint blush making a reappearance. ”So are you…” She said, trailing off. That wasn’t the best choice of words. ”—Handsome!” She added. ”N-Not pretty.” And…Now she was making it worse. But Eli had a valid point. A point that Zen definitely agreed with. Fighting or arguing against Bianca was a waste of time, she always had the advantage in the long run.

ELI WAS GLAD THAT ZEN UNDERSTOOD WHAT HE meant because he struggled sometimes. It was good to find somebody who got his very niche experiences with nicknames and his full name in general. He smiled his thanks and nodded, sweating a little less. He even managed a joke, even if it was a poor one. The fact that Zen laughed made him feel a little better. "What've you got against lame jokes?" He said, pretending to be offended. "You wanna laugh," He poked her arm. "I can tell."
However, Eli was struck a little dumb when she admitted to being a half-vampire. He'd never knowingly met one before, never mind joked. She didn't look different from everybody else, but he supposed that didn't matter if people knew you were already. Underneath it all. "That's cool," He said, nodding his head casually. He didn't want to make a big deal out of it, not after she'd told him how big a deal Bianca and Kat and all their friends made of it. So, he played it off and didn't question her too much. Even if he really wanted to.
"You don't have to compliment me," Eli laughed, brushing off her awkwardness as she tried to rebound and turned red. "Just because I said you were pretty." But he still pressed on his cheek and pulled it down until his eye drooped. "Though, I am a very pretty boy." He winked his drooped eye before letting go of his stretched cheek. Though he immediately flinched when his lashes got caught inside his eye and he had to rub at it profusely until it stopped nipping. "Maybe not anymore," He snickered, because Eli was very good at making a fool of himself.

Jokes as a whole wasn’t exactly the kind of thing Zenevieva would usually understand, especially because she was the kind of person to let a joke pass over her head. Aside from her friends stupidity — at times — and her parents attempts to cheer her up whenever she returned home during the school terms was the only moments the Novell found herself laughing or smiling all the time. It was hard to do so as of lately, as she fell victim under the hand of a bully, but it was strangely nice to know Eli could relate somehow. ”Nothing.” She told him, her forced smile turning into a genuine one. When he urged at her to laugh, she ended up snorting lightly and eventually began laughing, hiding the sound behind her hand as she did so. ”Okaaaay…You got me.”
Outing herself had never really been a problem, especially considering most people in Ilvermorny knew already. From her mother, it was apparent that America and thus Ilvermorny were more appreciative of demi-human students but Bianca and her crew proved otherwise. Mentally, while she knew he couldn’t hear her, she thanked him for not asking questions or being rather shocked about it. For now at least. She was sure that if they eventually…Became better friends she would answer any questions until his heart desired, it had been the same for Kaylee and Ellie. She even remembered the first time she showed her baby fangs. They were really just incredibly pointy teeth. ”Yeah.” She breathed, looking away.
”But I mean it.” She smiled, cheeks still red. She watched as he pulled down his eye and grimaced in response, laughing quietly. ”I take that back.” She told him, feigning a frown at his facial expression. Once karma somewhat hit Eli back in the face, his hands rubbing over his twitching eye, Zenevieva couldn’t help but laugh, frowning as she felt bad.”Maybe not.” She agreed, her hand resting on his shoulder. ”Lemme see.”
