It was a beautiful Saturday morning in November and Kinsey was up early, as per normal. She wasn't typically the type of person to lie in bed all morning and relax. She was a little too energetic for that. Also, she liked to do things, especially on a Saturday where the day was hers. She knew that lots of people would be focused on catching up with their homework today, but Kinsey was the stereotypical Ravenclaw in the fact that she always did her homework quickly. She liked having it done and not needing to worry about it, not that her homework was ever really a worry for her. After getting ready for the day in a long-sleeved shirt, jeans, jacket and a scarf, she made her way down to the Great Hall. It was fairly empty, just the way Kinsey liked it. Sure, she was doing better with her ability as of late, but she still preferred smaller crowds when she had the choice. As she walked into the room, she spotted a somewhat familiar, but definitely new face sitting at the Ravenclaw table. Was this one of the transfer students? Making her way over there, Kinsey smiled as she asked, "Hi I'm Kinsey Bainbridge. You mind if I sit by you?" She hoped she didn't frighten the girl by just walking up behind her, but she seemed to have positive intentions so that was a good thing. zenevieva mira novell

In the short-filled months that Zenevieva spent getting used to her surroundings at Hogwarts, she found herself becoming accustomed to the increased number of students, the increase in homework but most importantly her speed in everything increasing. Homework that had long-term deadlines were finished within the first week, while others finished on the first day of being given in. To many, Zenevieva was simply a nerd, but she didn’t mind. As long as she wasn’t getting bullied for it.
On the quiet Saturday of a cold November day, Zen found herself waking up rather early out of boredom. The sun had managed to shine some of its rays through her window in the early morning before disappearing as the day went on. Unlike her mother who struggled with bright lights and burned under the sun, Zenevieva didn’t mind it too much except from the times she would get sunburnt rather than a glorious tan. Though as time fell on throughout the day, the Novell girl found herself sitting at the Ravenclaw table, another book in hand – but this time closed. Instead a fork was held in the girl’s dominant hand, swirling around the breakfast food in front of her. It was that time of month again. The certain time in the month where human food wasn’t enough to fulfil her needs. But Zen had somehow powered through the small stash her aunt provided her, from pure stress over the past few months so she didn’t want to bother her for more.
Lost in her thoughts, Zenevieva almost missed the voice asking her a particular question and instantly the brunette found herself nodding as she looked back, just a tad frightened from the sudden introduction of the voice. ”Sure…” She mumbled, scooting to the side slightly to allow some space for the other person, tugging at her wooly-navy cardigan as she did so. Her eyes caught site of the blue stripes upon the female’s scarf, leading to Zen’s eyes widening as she presumed the other was in Ravenclaw, just like herself. "Zenevieva." She introduced herself once the girl sat down. "B-But Zen is fine."
@kinsey & hope this works!

Kinsey smiled as the girl agreed to let her sit beside her, seeming painfully shy. Kinsey didn't know much about the girl, other than the fact that she'd transferred from Ilvermorny and was now in Ravenclaw, but she did know what it was like to be shy. Kinsey didn't want to scare the girl, but she did want to be inviting. She wanted to help in any way she could, which was kind of a different feeling for her. Kinsey liked it. "Nice to meet you Zen," she said as she sat down beside the girl. "So I know you're in Ravenclaw too," that much was obvious from her clothes and where she was sitting, it shouldn't be weird that Kinsey knew that, "how are you liking it here? Are you a ... sixth year?" she asked, guessing. After that Kinsey closed her mouth, literally forcing herself to not continue. She didn't want to bombard the poor girl with questions, she just wanted to befriend her. Make her feel more comfortable, if that was possible. zenevieva mira novell

Zenevieva soon warmed up to the friendly aura that Kinsey was giving off, from the warm smiles and the small amount of questions that weren’t too intruding. A small smile rested on Zen’s lips once the other brunette rested and soon she found herself dropping the fork to the side of her plate. ”It’s…better than Ilvermorny. At least for me.” While the Novell left her answer vague; in the months Zen had spent at Hogwarts she had only seen her bullies a few times, passing by mainly. To her own advantage, Zen was able to hide within the crowd most of the time and never really struck out especially when she wore her robes.
Although, the brunette nodded in response to the Bainbridge, her mouth opening to speak once more. ”Yes, that’s right.” Zen paused before continuing. ”I technically transferred here before the end of my fifth year. But events lead me to just starting at the start of sixth year.” Zen’s life was somewhat of a sob story, only found in a typical drama but the Novell figured if she wanted to feel more confidence within herself she would have to talk about a few things…at a time.

Zen was smiling at her, which Kinsey took as a good sign. She admitted that she liked Hogwarts more than Ilvermorny and Kinsey's first instinct was to ask what she didn't like about Ilvermorny, but at the same time she didn't want to bring that up. If the girl wanted to talk about why she didn't like Ilvermorny as much she would have done so. She'd go the more positive route. "So what do you like about Hogwarts?" she asked, curious about what an outsider would think about her school. Kinsey loved it, but at the same time it was all she knew. Her eyes widened a little when she found out the girl was supposed to have come last year. "Wait, you were supposed to come here at the end of last year? So you didn't transfer here because of the attack on Ilvermorny?" Ooooh, that definitely meant that Zen didn't like something at Ilvermorny, or that something happened there. Kinsey was too polite to ask. She could hold back some of her questions, but not all of them, since her Ravenclaw curiosity was getting the better of her. "I'm sorry, if I'm asking too many questions, you don't have to answer them," Kinsey added, hoping she wasn't upsetting the cute girl. zenevieva mira novell

Zenevieva breathed out as a response to the question, lost for words as her mind entangled with the many different reasons she preferred Hogwarts over Ilvermorny. To some, Hogwarts stood taller and grand, filled with more inviting colours and understanding to each and every student. For Zenevieva, Ilvermorny could never live up the potential that Hogwarts gave off – especially around the seriousness of the bullying that some of the students, Zen included faced or even face. ”That’s difficult to answer.” The Novell finally stated, her fingers twiddling with one another as she tried to rack up an answer. ”In all honesty, the places are easier to hide in.” And there came her insecure and hidden nature. Zenevieva was so used to finding places to hide from her bullies yet they always seemed to find her regardless.
When Kinsey understood Zenevieva’s situation, the brunette nodded intensely. ”Exactly.” For Zen it was just a coincidence that many of the students she had shared classes with were also following her to England, along with the bullies that had been left behind to. ”It’s okay.” Zen murmured, pushing her brunette locks behind her ear as she looked up at Kinsey. While the other Ravenclaw seemed to be curious, she knew of her boundaries and refused to step past them which brought some kind of light to Zen’s inner cave. ”It’s complicated and horrible to explain. Maybe when we’re better friends I’ll be able to explain it better." Zenevieva cursed her quiet side for refusing to be so open amongst others, but at times being too open caused too many problems.

Zen said it was hard to explain why she liked Hogwarts so much and Kinsey couldn't help but feel a little confused. What was so hard about knowing why she liked Hogwarts better than Ilvermorny? Kinsey expected the younger girl's answer to be that the grounds were prettier or the castle larger, or something of that sort, but it wasn't. When Zen continued, saying that it was easier to hide here, Kinsey's eyes widened a little in realization. She nodded, "It does have quite a few good ones," she agreed, before adding, "I can show you a few really good hiding places if you want," Kinsey suggested. She didn't want to make Zen talk about anything she didn't want to, but Kinsey knew what it was like to be bullied. She'd been bullied heavily for six years, this year being the first where Dom almost seemed to ignore her. Still, she was waiting for him to remember her again. She was fairly certain she wouldn't be free of him until she graduated. "Or you can do things with me if you'd like," Kinsey added. Zen didn't have to stay alone if she didn't want to, and Kinsey would offer her a little help. The realization about bullies had an impact also, when they spoke about why Zen planned to leave Ilvermorny at the end of last years. She was trying to escape her torment, Kinsey was fairly certain. "You don't have to explain anything," Kinsey reassured the other girl, turning her attention to the food in front of her. "I understand, at least a little." Of course, without knowing what exactly Zen went through, Kinsey couldn't understand entirely, but she'd gone through enough of her own struggles with Dom to know the pain bullies inflicted on others. She wanted to be there for the younger girl, but didn't know how to explain that right. zenevieva mira novell

Blue eyes widened in awe as she looked up at Kinsey Bainbridge mentioned the hiding places she knew of. While she hadn’t run into neither Katherine or Bianca yet, the hiding places probably would have come in handy for the Novell girl – or even for Eli too. Since…He always hid with her. ”Maybe for now…It’s okay. But I’ll take you up on that offer.” Zen murmured, a small smile resting on her lips. The bullying Zen faced hadn’t been around for a few months but the anxiety she felt from it was still way-high.
It scared the Novell at times to even speak to others; afraid that Bianca and Katherine’s influence had spread out to other people. Though with Kinsey’s offer to do things with her brought a warm feeling for the half-vampire. ”I’d like that.” The realisation that Kinsey possibly went through what Zen went through left the Novell with widened eyes and an uncertain smile. ”You…You do?” Zenevieva stammered, her eyes paying attention to the food in front of her, playing with it once more. ”It’s difficult to express right?” The brunette asked, looking up once more.
The Ravenclaw girl shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she browsed around the Great Hall, before turning back to the Bainbridge girl. Words were one thing that Zenevieva couldn’t form properly nor on the spot especially around the topic of bullies. The ones who bullied her and them in general.

Zen was too smart to not realize what Kinsey was trying to tell her without actually coming out to say it. Well … maybe she didn’t understand at the beginning, but for some reason Kinsey did want the girl to know she wasn’t the only one who had to endure bullying. Kinsey didn’t want her to feel alone, like she had for so many years. She nodded, “Whenever you want. No rush or anything, I just know some pretty good places.” Kinsey hoped the girl would let her help at some point. She wanted to be there for someone, now that she’d finally changed to a point where she could focus on others instead of herself. Kinsey smiled when Zen said that she’d like to do things with her sometime. Kinsey could almost see the lightbulbs turn on in the other girl’s head when she actually realized what Kinsey was saying. She nodded slowly, “Yeah. I almost haven’t seen him this year, but it’s been really constant before now. S-since first year.” Kinsey couldn’t believe she was saying any of this out loud. She hadn’t spoken of Dom to anyone. Sure, Riley figured it out last year, but he still never convinced her to tell him who was bullying her. She just wanted Zen to know that she understood. Kinsey nodded in answer to the girl’s second question. “It is, and you don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to, or anything at all, but if you ever need someone …” Kinsey trailed off. She was trying to be clear, but this was a delicate topic and she also didn’t want Zen to feel pressured. After a moment, Kinsey decided to change the topic. “So how is your breakfast?” It wasn’t subtle, but maybe Zen would appreciate the effort. Kinsey wasn’t particularly good at this yet, but she was trying. That’s what mattered, right? zenevieva mira novell

The warm smile that settled upon Zenevieva’s lips was enough to confirm her appreciation in the manner. It was rare that people offered to help, talk or even befriend the half-vampire so for Kinsey to offer up places she once hid it was potentially fishy if she didn’t confirm her own experiences with bullying. Bullying was usually a topic that allowed the Novell to bond with others but when social anxiety struck her hard, words were definitely not leaving her lips. ”Thank you…” she mumbled.
Zenevieva felt a pang of guilt and a sudden rush of sadness grip at her heart. She hadn’t known the other Ravenclaw for anything shy than an hour but the vague story left her with her heart in her hand. Sympathy was one thing the Novell dished out as well as a reason she usually fell for the story’s bullies spewed out to fool the half-vampire. ”Since first year?” Why so young and for so long? Zen thought to herself, trying to consider the reasons why Kinsey had left it for so long. But it was not her business to bring up the question nor question the time length. In a response, the Novell nodded, brunette locks swishing with her head movement before Zen pushed a few locks back with a pale hand. ”Thanks a lot Kinsey…”
The topic change was something unexpected but nevertheless appreciated. Even though the two were able to bond over something so tragic, she was glad Kinsey put in the effort to get to know her aside from the tragedy the half-vampire had faced in her educational life. ”Uh..delicious-“ Zen began but cut herself off as she looked down at her now mush-of-a-meal. That’s what you get for playing with it. ”I mean…It was delicious but…It’s not enough.” She declared vaguely, the details of a half-witch, half-vampire’s diet on the tip of her tongue.

Kinsey nodded, smiling when the girl thanked her. "You don't need to thank me, I'm happy to help," Kinsey answered. She wasn't doing this for praise or anything other than the fact that if this girl was having a hard time she wanted to help. She had a hard enough time with Dom that she'd always try to help if she found out about others being bullied. Her helping was just more hidden, like finding hiding places and things. Kinsey couldn't confront any bullies. Not yet anyway. The girl was obviously surprised by the small bit Kinsey revealed and she shrugged. It wasn't like it had really even stopped this year, other than the fact that Dom hadn't sought her out yet. He was probably busy with the new students from Ilvermorny, either tormenting or flirting with them. "Yeah," her smile was a bit sadder now as she thought- once again- about how this had been going on for so long and trying to figure out why. The thing was, she didn't know why Dom hated her so much. She had no idea. "I'm not saying I understand entirely, because I know every situation is different, but if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here." Kinsey didn't want to pressure the younger girl in any way, so she simply offered a bit about herself before giving the offer. Hopefully that would help. She nodded a little as Zen thanked her again. She smiled when Zen said that the food was delicious. Kinsey expected that to be all the younger girl said, but then she went on to say that it wasn't enough and Kinsey's eyebrows furrowed a little. It wasn't enough? "You could always take more if you want," she offered, but at the same time she knew that wasn't what Zen meant. She was talking about something different, something that Kinsey was fairly certain she wouldn't be able to guess. zenevieva mira novell

She shook her head lightly in response, Zenevieva had barely known the girl for at least an hour but the other Ravenclaw showed more compassion and guidance than most people. Potentially even more than her own guardian. ”I’m thanking you because you’re one of the first…that actually wants to help me” The brunette found herself fiddling with her fingers. Zen was the kind of person that trusted too quickly, too easily but she knew of the consequences after dealing with it many times before. Zen also knew that the smile Kinsey had on her face carried a difficult past and she couldn’t begin to think of the things the Bainbridge went through – if they were all true.
The sad smile that rested on the corners of Kinsey’s face led to Zenevieva pulling a frown, trying to draw a line at both where their boundaries and how far the topic should go. Amongst the other students wasn’t probably the best place to talk about something so private or traumatising so the Novell wanted to prevent any form of breakdown as possible. When Kinsey mentioned that every situation is different, the half-vampire nodded in a response uttering a quiet thanks yet again.
Her eyes widened once Kinsey responded. ”I had…no clue.” Zen always refrained from eating around the same time as other students back in Ilvermorny, and usually found herself eating the remains of whatever was available. With the number of students there were in Ilvermorny it was kind of hard to grasp at the amount of food they made each day for all the students. ”Maybe more food…Will help me out.” But Zen knew herself that human food wouldn’t be enough. And the small number of blood-bags she usually received from Adèle wouldn’t be arriving for another week or so. ”Could you tell me…more about Hogwarts?” Unlike the rest of the Ilvermorny transfers, Zen was here to…most likely stick around – considering her now legal guardian worked and lived within London. The Novell figured she had a lot to learn.

Kinsey nodded, not knowing if there was really anything she could say to help when the girl said she was thinking her because she wanted to help her. It was true, Kinsey did want to help her, but she didn't think that was something that deserved thanks. Any good-hearted person should be willing to help Zen, especially if they knew about her bullying problem. She wasn't doing anything particularly special for the girl, but Kinsey did want to be there for her. She wished that maybe someone had been there to do this for her years ago. Maybe that would have helped her get away from Dom sooner ... though in all actuality she wasn't entirely certain if she had escaped Dom or if he was just biding his time. Zen said that she had no idea she could eat as much as she wanted and Kinsey frowned slightly. "The house elves make plenty, so don't worry about it. Just eat what you want." She nodded when Zen said that maybe more food would help her. Then she started asking about Hogwarts and Kinsey smiled. "Ummm is there anything specific you want to know?" She thought for a moment, trying to come up with interesting facts. "There's a book about Hogwarts. It's called Hogwarts, A History. I can let you borrow it if you want." She smiled, "Our common room and the Gryffindor one are in towers, but the Slytherin and Hufflepuff common rooms are in the dungeons. Outside there is a tree called the Whomping Willow that is actually quite violent." Kinsey hesitated, "Is that the kind of stuff you want me to tell you about?"

It was natural of Zenevieva to remain quiet when things were usually offered or frankly, rather given to her. At that certain time of every month, the Novell felt bad by trying to feast on human food, as eating more just meant she was wasting more – potentially wasting away extras for someone who was actually hungry. Looking around at the extra bits of food surrounding their table the half-vampire reached forward for a few extra sides as well as another portion of fries. The guilt had already spread through the brunette, but her fingers reached for a few fries, chewing on them quietly.
When Kinsey mentioned the Hogwarts book, Zen’s eyes widened in interest. She had heard a few things about the book from her aunt but had never read the book in its entirety. When the elder Ravenclaw provided some information for her, Zen couldn’t help but smile softly. ”I know.” She responded. ”I uh…Have a friend in Hufflepuff…And I’ve been around the Whomping Willow…” She trailed off as she admitted. But Zen knew she wouldn’t reveal that she had been somewhat diving into the woods too. ”More or less.” she smiled. ”What about…the Professors, the classes to do your best in and the ones that don’t require too much work?”

Kinsey couldn't help but smile when she saw the interest plain as day on the other girl's face. Of course, Hogwarts, A History was a classic and one of the best ways to learn about the school, so Kins didn't blame her in the slightest. Zen admitted that she knew some of the stuff in the book, saying that she had a friend in Hufflepuff and that she'd been around the Whomping Willow ... probably together? She wasn't entirely sure, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Kinsey smiled and nodded. "Well if you want to borrow it, I have a copy, but you don't have to." When the other girl asked a few more questions, Kinsey thought a moment. "Well, I guess it depends on what kinds of classes are your strengths and such. I actually do pretty well in all of my classes." Studying and remembering information came easily to Kinsey. "I personally really enjoy Arithmancy, but I think that's because it's a challenge for me. Easy ones ... history of magic and charms are pretty easy, I think." She appreciated both of those classes. She didn't have to focus a lot, but they were also useful. "All the professors are very supportive. I haven't had issues with any of them." Then again, maybe that had something to do with the fact that Kinsey was a very good student. "What classes are you taking?" she asked curiously in return. zenevieva mira novell
