Vik shrugged, "You don't want me to write until I miss you? That might be a little dangerous. I have a tendency to forget people unless they're standing right in front of me," Vik teased, chuckling softly. Dana knew better than to take him seriously right now, so at least he didn't have to worry about her getting offended by his teasing. People that didn't know him well often did get offended when he tried to tease them. It was nice to not have to really think about that right now.
Dana made it perfectly clear that she hadn't moved on from him always winning their duels and Vik laughed again. "What makes you think that you'd beat me now? What does an astronomer have that I don't?" He quirked an eyebrow at her teasingly. "Well I mean I always have, so I just figured that nothing would be changing, you know?" Maybe Vik should dial the teasing back a little bit, but she was taking it so well. He kind of felt like she'd be suspicious if he stopped, especially when their topic of conversation was such a playful one.
His eyes widened when she announced that they had all the time in the world. Well, that meant she didn't have anywhere she had to be anytime soon. Vik wasn't particularly busy, so he figured he could talk for as long as she wanted. He shrugged, "Fine. I'll tell you whatever you want to know ... but you have to ask questions to get me going." That was the crux of it. Vik didn't know what to tell her. He rolled his eyes, "Well then, you need to find other ways to relieve your stress," he told her seriously. If she wanted to quit smoking, she had to know she had to use something to replace it with, right? He looked at her curiously, "Why not? You don't like potions?" She brought it up, so he figured it was fine for him to ask.

Dana Knox rolled her eyes, a pout on her lips as she knew the truth. And that he was absolutely right. Relying on Vik was a dangerous move, considering he didn’t have the best kind of memory – or even a memory at all. The Knox was sure he probably had no idea how he found himself strolling around London to coincidentally bump into the blonde. ”Fine…” She began, a soft grumble in her tone. ”I’ll write you first. And I’ll write every week…” With a sigh, Dana couldn’t help but break out into a giggle. There was never a time around the elder Slytherin where she could dislike him for more than five seconds. It wasn’t possible.
”Knowledge of space and time…The amount of stars that reside within the stars…Why Muggles fall for such ridiculous astrology horoscopes…” She responded as she trailed off, knowing that his question didn’t exactly need an answer. But when he continued to tease her, the blonde couldn’t help but swat at his wrist slightly, the pout that rested on her lips making a comeback. ”That’s mean. Offensive even.” But Dana knew he was right. Her in a duel was like relying on a cat to jump out of a tree it climbed itself. Useless without help. The blonde knew that while Vik continued to tease her – she could most definitely handle it. Experiencing it from her younger siblings and even Lars when the two spent odd times together. She hoped for a reunion between the three of them one day.
”That’s fair enough.” She said, adjusting in her seat slightly. ”How’s the family?” The blonde decided to begin small. Eventually make her way up to present day events – question his whereabouts, all the good things she needed to know…Eventually. The roll of his eyes only led to Dana smiling small to herself. Smoking reminded her of the muggle-life she used to cling to so many years ago, and how her pureblood mother did so to, with her own cigarettes of her own. It was strange, to not what to let something that could kill you go – but the reminder of menthol on the tip of her mother’s tongue and on the fingertips of her father’s fingers brought back…Memories for Dana. Memories of when she would actually see her mother happy and her father alive. When they weren’t fighting of course. ”Not necessarily.” Potions were a pain too, especially with their many side effects. ”I just like the feel and taste of it. Though I shouldn’t have started from such a young age.”

It was amusing to Vik, the look of force annoyance on Dana's face. He lifted an eyebrow inquisitively, waiting for her to cave. Sure, he knew that Dana might be annoyed that he wasn't going to volunteer to start writing her, but she couldn't stay mad at him, just like he couldn't get angry with her. "I'll answer you, promise," Vik said, smiling when his friend giggled. Good. She wasn't angry with him.
She started to spout off things that she had that he didn't and Vik rolled his eyes. Like any of that would help her with a duel. "And what exactly does astronomy have to do with dueling?" he asked, unable to help himself. Vik was definitely curious to see what she came up with in response to that. He shrugged when she said he was being mean and offensive. "I'm sorry. The truth can be hard sometimes. Just know that no matter what, you'll always be my little astronomer," he teased, winking at her. She definitely wasn't his. They were just friends, but that didn't mean he couldn't tease her. "Even if you can't come close to matching me in a duel," Vik added, just to torment her a tiny bit more.
He shrugged when she asked about his family. "They're fine," Vik answered vaguely. His adoptive parents were always doing well. That was no surprise to the wizarding community. The fact that Vik was a part of their family was often left out in small ways. Ways that his parents didn't notice, but Vik certainly did. It was part of the reason why he left society for such a long time. "How's your Mum?" he asked softly. He knew it was a somewhat abrupt way of changing the subject, but he figured it'd probably been a while since someone asked her. He nodded when she explained why she struggled giving up smoking, then chuckled softly, "Well, you can let me know if there is anything I can do to help you." As if. It wasn't really that he'd mind helping her, but he couldn't see her asking him to help her quit. The idea of his headstrong friend doing that was almost laughable.

A promise was a simple and mundane thing that most people presented with one another, but to Dana Knox, promises were things that kept her relationships with all of her friends and even her family going. Like a child with a Cheshire grin resting comfortably on the edges of her lips, the blonde raised her pinky – definitely caving in and ignoring his teases. ”Pinky swear?” She questioned, blue eyes widening as if she had the eyes of a puppy dog.
With a shrug, Dana couldn’t help but snort and fall into a fit of giggles once more. She knew that her knowledge on space and the things that lie way within the universe had no correlation with duelling or the situation at hand, but as he done to her, she was doing to him. A simple tease. ”Nothing…At all!” The blonde declared, grinning. ”Your little astronomer?” The Knox repeated, her grin replaced with an exaggerated pout. ”I’m not little at all!” Which frankly was rather true, considering Dana stood tall at five-foot-eight. Putting her in that perfect category of tall women. ”Nor am I yours! I belong with the wind.” she stated, turning her head as the wind gently blew – strands of blonde hair covering her eyes. ”I never want to duel with you again…Cheater…” She teased.
The vague answer left the Knox carefully nodding, an uneasy smile on her lips. She didn’t know much about Vik’s family, nor what they looked like and who he appeared to look more like. His father or mother. It was something Dana did amongst all of her friends, comparing them to their parents and figuring out the similarities in each of them. It was a nice and simple game. ”Better than before…” She breathed with a short nod. ”Talking to me a lot more than before. So I guess it’s going better.” Dana’s relationship with her mother had always been shaky ever since the death of her father and younger sister, but she always believed it was more-so her own fault. ”Aside from not letting me smoke more than three menthols…I don’t think there’s anything to help me with.”

Vik laughed when Dana looked at him with big eyes, lifting her pinky and asking if he would pinky swear. "Yeah, sure. Pinky swear, Dana," he agreed, lifting his own pinky, twisting it around hers and shaking them gently. "Is that good enough for you?" he teased, unable to resist. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been asked to pinky swear, about anything. It was endearingly cute.
She started to laugh, shrugging when she admitted that astronomy had nothing to do with dueling. Vik nodded, an superior expression on his face as he smirked down at him. Yeah, that's right. She might be amazing when it came to knowing where the stars and planets were, but that wouldn't help her one bit when it came time for them to duel again. He shrugged when she questioned him calling her "his little astronomer", grinning as she argued the fact. "You're littler than me," Vik pointed out, "in age and size, so I think it counts." He chuckled at her argument of not being his. "Mine as in my friend," he clarified, rolling his eyes and pretending to be exasperated, "It was meant to be a compliment, Dana. I'm not trying to put you down." She was a good friend, he wouldn't do that to her. "Cheater?" he asked, tilting his head to the side curiously and waiting for an explanation. How was he a cheater?
He nodded as she explained that things were going much better than before. "I'm glad to hear it Dana," Vik answered sincerely. He and she never really talked about their familial situations, but of course he knew about the deaths in her family. He wanted to make sure she knew he was there for her, but also didn't want to come out and say it. His actions would have to speak louder than his words on this one. He chuckled softly as she continued, "I'm not sure if I have the power to make you stop, Dana," he teased lightly.

When their pinkies joined, Dana couldn’t stop the grin on her lips from making its appearance. Pinky swears were childish, something she knew but they were most valuable around friends. ”Yeah. That’s good enough.” She nodded. Dana knew that Vik was the kind of person that usually brushed her actions to the back of his mind, doing whatever she usually wanted but she couldn’t help but feel grateful that he actually put up with her.
”Touché.” She murmured, her eyes narrowing as she realised she still somewhat had to look up at him. But at her height, she was fortunate enough to look down at most people – especially Muggles. God were they short. ”You’re only like…Two years older than me…” In all honesty, Dana was unsure how old Vik was, except from the fact that he shared a year with Lars. Or maybe he was in the years above. She had no clue. But when Vik started to explain himself, Dana couldn’t help but snort – cracking a teasing smile as she did so. ”I’m just joking with you! I know what you meant.” With a pause, her hand played with the spoon that sat in her now-warm coffee, gently giving it a stir. ”The way you duelled against me so long ago. You didn’t even need to say the spell.” She clarified. ”Hence the nick-name ‘Cheater’, even though I know you didn’t cheat.”
With a gentle nod, she murmured a soft thank you to him, her grin turning into a small smile. Things about her families background and their tragic history involving her members death was open to most people – especially during her time in Hogwarts. It would be another year without them, another Christmas without them too, but Dana had a sense that they were watching from afar. And eventually Noah would wake up to see this Christmas anyway. ”You have the power to crush them in your hands!” She stated. ”But luckily I don’t have any on me. It’s just usually…When I’m at home when it happens.” But the fumbling of her fingers and her fidgeting was usually a result from the withdrawal.

"Whew!" Vik exclaimed when she said the pinky swear was good enough, wiping the back of his hand against his forehead teasingly. Honestly, Dana could be a bit childish sometimes, but that was one of the things he liked about her. She was nice and easy to talk to and very forgiving.
He chuckled at the grudging look of admission when she confessed that he was taller than her still. It was funny how that seemed to annoy her a little bit, like she hadn't quite realized they weren't the same height. She said he was only two years older than her and Vik quirked an eyebrow at her, "Am I?" he asked, not giving her any hint as to her age. In all honesty, he wasn't entirely certain how old she was. He'd never really taken enough of an interest to pay attention to what year in school she was in. He'd been too busy having fun beating her. Vik grinned when she snorted, loving getting that sort of a reaction from her. He loved teasing people like her. She just took it so well. "Mmmhmm sure. If I hadn't explained myself, you probably would have commented about it for five more minutes," Vik argued, mostly teasing, though he wasn't entirely certain she would have let it go if he didn't say something to explain himself. Then he rolled his eyes. "It's something you learn in seventh year, performing spells silently. It's not cheating, it's advanced magic," Vik answered, like she didn't already know that. The thing was, he had a particular knack for nonverbal spells and caught on to them quickly his seventh year. Since then he perfected the art, quite proud of how good he was at it. "Can't you do it now?" he asked innocently.
Vik laughed outright when Dana said he had the power to crush her cigarettes in his hand. "Like I would do that unless you asked me to, Dana," he answered, shaking his head at her. Dana did have a tendency to be a bit dramatic, but that was also one of the fun things about her. He smirked, "Haven't you thought of getting rid of your stash at home? Remove the temptation, as it were?"

Dana found herself laughing at Vik’s attempt of being relieved and while it was most definitely exaggerated — she still appreciated the fact that he put up with her. Nudging his side lightly, the blonde threw her head back in laughter, eyes noticing how her breath followed and disappeared into the skies. Winter was such a good time for the Knox, she enjoyed the comfort of wrapping up warm and Christmas as a whole.
Not really paying attention to their height differences before, Dana couldn’t help grumble now when it was completely noticeable. But in regards to their age, Dana was left puzzled. She always assumed that Vik was in the same year as Lars but perhaps she was second guessing herself. ”Well Lars was just in the year above…So he’s twenty now…I think…” Age confused the Knox. The only thing she knew was she would eventually be twenty in the following year. ”I remember when we met out on the lake…I was in my fifth year…? It was just before my parents divorced.” She shrugged, a smile on her lips as she recalled the memory as if it were yesterday.
”Not at allll.” She said, dragging out her words before laughing. Vik loved to poke and prod at Dana’s grey areas, especially the areas were she wasn’t expecting to be teased upon, but regardless — just like their day out on that lake — she was ready for whatever he would hit her with. ”I knoooow. I actually did graduate too you know?” She giggled, teasing him. ”Non-verbal spells aren’t particularly my best area, but they’re wonderful to use at work.” Especially when she needed to charm a thousand or so papers for organisation purposes. Dana liked to believe while her non-verbal spells were sub par, her wandless magic was a lot better.
Laughing once more, her hands reached out for her friends. ”Well I’m asking you to now! Crush any white looking stick-like object in my mouth whenever you see it. Unless it’s a lollipop. Those are quite delicious.” She pleaded, her hands returning to stir at her coffee. ”I did!” Dana began before blue eyes glanced away, at the window. ”Until I bought more…But! I hid those ones. I think so anyway.”

Vik laughed at the confused look on Dana's face as they started talking about ages. "I'm 22. Graduated in 2020 ... but I have no idea what year you were in school when we met at the lake. I was in my seventh year, so what year were you?" He knew he was a few years older than the Knox girl, but Vik hadn't really paid much attention to it before. He didn't normally pay attention to things unless he was in the mood to and the age of some girl a few years younger than him ... well, it hadn't been high on his priority list. Now he was curious though.
Dana answered him sarcastically, muttering about actually knowing and having graduated and Vik couldn't help but smirk at her. She was so easy to tease. Of course he knew she graduated, especially considering the beginning of their conversation. He listened as she explained that non-verbal spells weren't her best. He nodded, "Yeah, non-verbal spells are very useful. I like it when people don't know what sort of mischief I'm pulling," Vik teased, quirking an eyebrow at her. He wouldn't really do anything too drastic with others using wandless magic just because they didn't know he was using it ... but he did take advantage of the skill quite frequently.
He laughed again when she grabbed his hands, telling him to destroy any cigarettes. "Okay, okay, I'll help you out to the best of my abilities," he teased. "If it's a lollipop, just know you'd better have another one for me, because I like those." He rolled his eyes when she said that she did get rid of her stash before she bought more to add too it.

Age was simply a confusing thing for Dana Knox. She usually forgot the date of her own siblings and even her parents birthday, but surely she wasn’t doing the maths correctly here. ”Seventh?” She repeated. ”Twenty-two? Jesus…Grandpa…” She teased, knowing it would eventually earn her a teasing comment in return. ”Were you about to graduate by then? Surely I was moving into my fifth year.” The blonde’s shoulders rose into a shrug, showing her defeat in trying to calculate it all. Age was age. The two of them were perfect friends without it.
When Vik mentioned the reason for why he enjoyed non-verbal spells and how they were useful, Dana felt herself rolling her eyes. That was most definitely a reference to their duel. The Knox truly had no clue what her elder was doing at the time, mainly because everything to him was non-verbal. Curse her younger self for not knowing such simple skills. ”You’re always up to some kind of mischief.” She muttered, grumbling to herself — like she had done many times before, sore loser. ”I mean you kicked my ass during our matches.”
With his word, Dana couldn’t help but grin and soon she dropped his hands, her arms drawing in and folding naturally across her chest. ”Why of course. I’ll always offer any sugary delight!” She responded with a giggle. Catching onto his eye roll, Dana sighed, knowing it was a bad habit for her to continue smoking the Muggle items and actually considered the potion that would inevitably help her in the long run. ”Luckily I don’t remember where that stash is. And you know me already! It takes me at least a week to find anything I’ve lost.” She rambled. As she sat up, she stirred her now lukewarm drink for a little longer before she decided to purchase another one as well as a snack. But of course she knew to offer for something to Vik too.
”My coffee’s warm because of all my…rambles. So, did ya want anything else while I go grab a new one?”

She called him grandpa and Vik glared at her. Honestly, he didn't really mind the teasing, but he wasn't going to let it go unnoticed. "I'm not a Grandpa, you're just a child," he retorted loftily, pretending like there wasn't anything else to it. "How old are you now again?" Sure, she said she was in fifth year when he was in seventh, but that didn't exactly say her age. It would be much easier if she just came out and said it. Then he'd be able to remember the difference between them.
He shrugged when she accused him of always being into mischief. "You've got me there," he agreed. It was a lot more fun to be mischievous than let everyone know what he was doing all the time. "Someday you'll be able to compete against me ... maybe," Vik teased, unable to help himself. He liked joking around and teasing Dana was so easy.
Dana agreed to share any lollipops she might have with him and Vik laughed, "Well then I guess we're settled. You give me sugary treats and I'll see what I can do to help you with your bad habit." He winked to show that he was kind of teasing. He didn't want her to get offended. Then again, he didn't think Dana was really the type to get offended. "Well, when you do remember, you could always let me know? Then I can get rid of it for you ..." Yeah right. He doubted she'd want him to get rid of it when she was looking for the stash. Then again, he might as well offer.
Vik shook his head as she offered to get him something else. "No, I'm good. I'll just wait here like a good boy." He grinned, shooing her off with his hands and watching as she went to get herself more. He was actually trying to come up with something else they could talk about once she got back. "Sooooo what have you been doing in your spare time lately, Dana?" He'd already asked about her job, so he might as well ask about something else. "Other than trying to quit smoking and going to work?" Vik winked at her.

The glare she received was somewhat threatening, but Dana couldn’t help but simply giggle. Their teasings went back and forth, something easy for them both and the blonde was glad Vik didn’t take her too seriously. ”Twenty in March.” She reminded him, a pout on her lips as she sounded pretty much like a child in comparison to him. ”Maybe I was in my fourth year…Maybe fifth.” She added, trying to pin an exact time. But going far back as she did then was rather complicated, especially with the Knox’s old mind
Creating a small ‘o’ shape with her lips, blonde brows rose as she took the response as a challenge. Vik was always known for his challenges and not once had he lost to Dana. He had always come close though, but seemed to always have a trick up his sleeve, one the Knox wasn’t expecting at all. With a scoff leaving her lips, she turned her head to the side, feigning the emotion of being offended, when really she knew she shouldn’t take her elder seriously.
”It’s a deal!” She agreed with a smile, a laugh leaving her lips as a response to his wink. Aside from her cravings around the menthols, Dana did love a good sugary treat and even within her coffee’s and even tastes for alcohol, some kind of sweetness was needed. ”I don’t know if its from the lack of sleep or a sudden memory charm I used but I have no clue where the current stash is.” She laughed, throwing her head back slightly. ”Though I appreciate the offer, knowing myself I’ll smoke it all.” Her addiction was most definitely not going away anytime soon.
His small but funny hand actions earned him another laugh from the blonde. She turned briefly, heading to the counter for a fresh cup of coffee with an additional pump of anything sweet. God her teeth were rotten. When she returned, sliding into the booth comfortably, the blonde drew in a quick breath as she tried to think of a response for his question. ”Surprisingly I went on a date earlier in the year. Spoke to my mother a bit more and even considered a holiday.” While Dana loved to travel with her family when the Knox family was still…intact, it had been a while since she disappeared from the country. Maybe a break was what she needed. ”And how about you? Apart from all of the wonderful things you’ve barely spoken on.” She questioned, sending a teasing wink.

Dana was teasing him, which definitely wasn't something new. They always got to this point, where asking questions seemed pointless because the other would rather tease than answer. Vik nodded when she said how old she was now, agreeing that she didn't remember exactly what year she was in the last time they dueled one another. It was easy for him to remember. It'd been his last year.
He laughed when she confirmed that she would give him treats if he would help her stop smoking. He wasn't sure how much of a help he would be, since he really didn't see her all that often, but since she asked him to, he'd do his best. He laughed, "Suuuure you don't remember," he teased. Even if she did, he wasn't sure if she'd admit it. Once she remembered, she'd be craving it. "You know, you could always just call me or something when you're about to buy some? I can show up and talk you out of it." Yeah, like she would want that. Still, he'd be a good friend and offer.
When Dana got back from getting another drink, she started telling him a few highlights of her year ... were they highlights? Or just the first thing that popped into her mind. He grinned, shaking his head and chuckling. "Which holiday did you consider?" he teased, now curious. He shrugged, "I'm not up to much. Just trying to get to know people here again. I've gone to a few clubs, looked into business with new partners. I'm looking for more fun things to do, you know?" There. Maybe he could let her suggest some things now.

Vik was the sort of person to brush off Dana's teases, just like the next person. Their friendship had reached levels that even others couldn't get their heads around it. Whether they were being serious or not. The Knox had always appreciated his company, whether it was from the minor owls the two would send one another or if it were face to face. She was just glad outside of Hogwarts, their friendship hadn't dropped like it had with most people.
Maybe Dana did know, maybe she didn't! Who honestly knew? Either way, his reaction and next comments didn't stop the blonde from throwing her head back lightly, lips letting a cheeky laugh out. "Okay I remember." She admitted with a small frown, her hands raising as if she had just been caught. "They're actually in my work station. Left side table, second drawer." For weeks she tried to convince herself that she didn't know, her fingers even reaching for the drawer before her consciousness snapped back into place. "That...always works. Apparate by my side to stop me." She grinned. "Thank you Vik." And from that moment, Dana knew there would never be a time that she wouldn't appreciate Vik.
Returning with her fresh drink and sitting comfortably, Vik's next question had the blonde biting her bottom lip nervously. "Possibly returning to the States...Scope out my history there. Or a trip around Europe, depending on what I fancied." She stated vaguely, leaning back comfortably in the booth. The blonde nodded in agreement, when you're young, life was simply worth living. Wizard clubs or Muggle clubs?" She questioned curiously, raising a brow as she did so. Clubs weren't exactly her thing now that she worked in Astronomy, but drinking the finest firewhiskey and smoking with friends seemed like a good way to spend Saturday evenings. "What kind of businesses?" She added

Of course she knew! Vik laughed when Dana finally admitted that she knew where her stash was and then nodded his head knowingly. "You know, if you really do want my help, you're not supposed to lie and try to keep secrets from me," he teased, unable to help himself. She then told him exactly where it was and Vik smirked. "Do you want me to remove the temptation for you?" He'd never had a friend ask him to help them with something like this so Vik wasn't entirely sure what the expectations were. Dana teased him back, saying he could apparate to her side and stop her. "Man, we've got to figure out some way for you to let me know when you have a craving, or I'm just going to end up randomly apparating to you and not helping at all." The whole idea was silly, but if she really wanted him to, Vik was more than willing to help her out. That's what you were supposed to do for friends, wasn't it?
He listened as his friend explained the types of holidays she thought about. "But you didn't go on any?" he asked curiously. Surely she would have told him if she did, but maybe she hadn't thought about it yet. Vik shrugged in response to her question. "Both. I really just go wherever, depending on my mood." Sometimes wizards were too uptight, and it was much more fun to be with muggles. Also, it might be a bit easier to pickpocket when among the muggles. They had a tendency to pay less attention to things like that, which made it easy. "Oh you know me. I like to find old things, see how much they are. I'm a sort of ... broker for antiquities," he explained with an easygoing smile. It's what he told everyone, even though it wasn't the whole truth. It was fine.
