November's introduction meant it had been just two months since Ji-Yu had become the Charms Professor of Hogwarts Wizarding School. Which had meant it had been two extra months that the Choi had learned a lot more British-English lingo. Being from a strict Asian country somewhat had its perks in terms of learning English, but it wasn't necessarily important alongside other Mahoutokoro students. Japanese was. A quill dipped in crimson ink in hand along with narrowed eyes, Ji-Yu had just finished preparing for her afternoon class with the Seventh years, a class she looked forward to teach because of intelligent students like Cordelia but one she knew would drag on with the mere words that Gilderoy Lockhart Jr would speak.
Before her, a stack of assignments which was due for the previous day rested comfortably, stacked in the neatest pile thankfully because of magic. Oh what would Ji-Yu do without it. Cursive writing marked the areas of Ophelia's paper, outlining areas of her explanation in the importance of wand movements that didn't make a lot of sense. Ophelia was one of her bright sixth year's but even the smartest made mistakes too. As she marked, she ensured her class was clean enough for the afternoon students and so charmed her wand to clean around the shelves and the long desks in order to rid the space from dust.

@jiyu 11.XX.2024 Charms class was an escape. While Cordelia knew almost everything that was being taught, having gotten a head start over the summer, seeing the process of casting charms and their practical methods in person were far different than reading about them in a book. As of late, she was thankful for getting ahead in at least one of her classes. The distasteful article that came out near the end of October about her father had her entire world turned upside down. Her mother had already filed the divorce paperwork, according to a letter she had sent to Cordelia explaining everything that was going on. She wasn’t sure what she was supposed to feel. Scared? Betrayed? The second life her father had held made sense now that she looked back on it. His apathy following retirement could probably be viewed as a surrender, though he never had the ability to outright tell her or her mother about it. And there was also the bit about the other child. Her half-sister, who was one of the transfers from Ilvermorny and only a year her junior in Hufflepuff.
Despite her lack of enthusiasm in anything over the last few weeks, Cordelia still managed to make her way to classes and meal times. Homework was completed on time, albeit not as polished or perfected as she would have like it to be. Lying in bed with her cat felt better anyways. It was easy to avoid everything there. But she also couldn’t stay in bed forever, and her mum would kill her if she let her idiot father (her mum’s words, not Cordelia’s) ruin her final year at Hogwarts. The finish line to the end of the first term was in sight, so picking herself up long enough to sit through classes was the least she could do.
Today was Charms, which was always the bright light at the end of the tunnel regardless of what was going on in her life, and arriving a few minutes earlier than the rest of the class was easy to do. She would take her place at the back of the classroom like she always did, waiting for Lily to wander in ten to twenty minutes late, before passing over completed and annotated notes for the Gryffindor to copy off of. Cordelia managed to arrive just after the previous class let out, hovering around the doorway to the classroom for a couple of minutes to make sure all the students were gone before she went in. The last thing she wanted to do was disturb Professor Choi if she was having a one-on-one with someone. Positive she was in the clear, Cordelia slid through the door and dropped her bag onto the desk where she normally sat, beginning to pull her class materials out of it without acknowledging the professor at all.

Ji-Yu hadn’t even noticed the first student stepping through the door until she heard the greeting Good afternoon fill the air. The English language was still rather strange to the Choi woman, considering Good Afternoon wasn’t common in her native tongue’s spoken language. It was simply Hello or Welcome. Nevertheless, the greeting led to the Professor’s hand lifting, preventing from any of the cleaning activities that her magic was involved in from going any further. With the flick of her wrist without her wand – she neatly settled her marking pile to the side and pushed herself to her feet, the sound of heels adjusting themselves on the floor.
Golden hazel eyes lifted to seek around the class, noting the number of students she currently had. Two out of three desks were almost completely full while one was usually held for her late-comers. The one closest to the door. Although the Choi noticed Cordelia – one of her best seventh year students – had settled in her usual spot at the back desk, most likely waiting for Miss Lily Potter. Ji-Yu knew a few things about Cordelia considering the article that had been released sometime in October surrounding her family. She probably knew that many people sent their support in and while Ji-Yu wanted to do the same, she wanted the young Hufflepuff to know it was genuine. The Charms Professor knew it wasn’t great of her to choose favourites amongst her class but once Cordelia settled back in the right track, Ji-Yu made no hesitation to show her appreciation for her intelligence. But, in the time that Ji-Yu had settled into Hogwarts she picked up the habits of most of the students. Cordelia usually remained quiet during group discussions but excelled with written tasks and assignments, Lily was known for her lateness and loud mouth, Gilderoy Jr for his wits and terrible puns and the Ilvermorny transfer: Elijah Fleming; an incredibly sweet boy who seemed to befriend the world. Bless.
Clapping her hands together to gather the attention of her students, Ji-Yu walked over to the front of her desk, resting against it gently. ”Did anyone here notice what I just performed?” The question left a few confused faces amongst her, but the Choi went on to clarify. ”A non-verbal spell. You began learning this in sixth year alongside the previous Professor.” Ji-Yu had no idea who the old Professor was considering this starting school year was her first year in the Wizarding School. ”If you open up your Standard Book of Spells, Grade 7 and turn to the eightieth page, that is where the first half of today’s class will be based on.”
Pacing around her desk in a slow manner, she watched as the students picked and spread through the different pages of the book. It felt weird for Ji-Yu to instruct things considering she was no leader type. But then again, she wasn’t determined as a follower either. Ji-Yu was her own person. ”For today while we review the section of non-verbal spells, we’ll be throwing some charms techniques in there so eventually the Charms you learned in your previous years will eventually be useful without the need to say or perform the spell.” With a brief pause, the Choi came to a pause, looking amongst her students when she watched the door open once more, inviting in a few more students that were usually late. ”Miss Potter and Mr Lockhart. How nice of you to join us.” Looking at her students that were in fact on time – the Professor sent a warming smile. ”Any questions so far?”

@jiyu 11.XX.2024 The classroom filled up quickly, and Cordelia had only just finished pulling her textbook out of her bag and made herself at home in her seat when the next group came in, a gaggle of Gryffindor girls whose names she could never remember. Lily’s roommates. That’s what she called them in her head. They weren’t terribly important that they would ever have a lasting impact on her, and for the most part they had been passive classmates for the last seven years. Almost no complaints on her part. She also felt a little bad that they had to deal with Lily every single day in the dorm room. That had to be a pain. Wake up: Lily bouncing off the walls, Go to sleep: Lily chattering away like it wasn’t late at night. There wasn’t anyone really like that in her dorm rooms (Ana got close to it sometimes but not nearly as annoying as Lily could be), or in Hufflepuff as a whole. As far as she knew, the seventh years got along swimmingly. Not like she really knew, being socially inept in those sorts of things.
And of course class began without Lily arriving yet. She was always operating on her time, whatever that was. This was also assuming she even showed up in the first place. Even though they were already starting their third month of the term, Lily appeared about half of the time, and when she did she slept through the majority of the class period or scribbled in her textbooks. Cordelia had done her best to make clear and concise notes for her friend, but she wasn’t going to also be responsible for getting her to class on time. That was all on Lily at that point. The professors also seemed like they had given up. The Gryffindor’s grades were slumping and constant tardiness couldn’t be good for her. Cordelia had seen her friend toss graded papers into the trash without looking at them. Those same papers were usually marked with zeroes or incomplete. At least she had put in the effort to hand something in.
Professor Choi began the class without Lily and apparently Gilderoy as well, which the class was soon alerted to as the pair entered at the same time. Cordelia threw her arm out to grab at the hem of her friend’s robes to pull her to her normal seat at the end of the aisle. It was the perfect spot for Lily because then she could bounce out of class immediately. No restraints or obstacles in the way for her to get hung up on. The professor continued the lecture without missing a beat, all the while Cordelia tried to bring her friend up to speed on what had happened so far. Lily obviously had no clue how to do wandless magic, her interests for the last few years focused more on werewolves, werewolves, and werewolves. Charms class was kind of a joke to the Gryffindor. Yet Cordelia still wrote everything down for her friend, in the off chance that she did decide to do the required work someday. “C-Copy this,” she whispered in Lily’s direction, pushing her notebook across the table so the redhead could get whatever she wanted from it. Or draw on it. It was hard to tell with Lily, especially after already making a show of her entrance.

It was natural for students to be late, especially at this kind of year, where the cold had decided to settle in, the hints of autumn creeping its way in. When the sun hid behind the clouds, Ji-Yu took it as a sign that more students became lazier, unbothered to even attend classes but Lily Potter was a special kind of person. While her attendance proved her tardiness as evident as it was, the Gryffindor girl still gave her classes a shot. Even handing in unfinished assignments on time, but an effort was clearly there. To many other Professors, they had shown signs of giving up with the Seventh year, but the Choi still had faith. Somewhere.
When Ji-yu was blessed with the presence of both Lily Potter and Gilderoy Lockhart, she couldn’t help but feign excitement for their arrival. It was expected for the two of them to be late yet again, but that didn’t stop the Choi from continuing on with the lecture. With each student preparing themselves for the rest of the class to commence, Ji-Yu’s hand waved in the direction of a students mumble of a question, answering it rather quickly while golden eyes caught sight of Cordelia Smith murmuring a few words to Lily, who had finally taken her seat. ”Miss Smith.” The Choi started, her Seoul accent making a reappearance – something she thought she had lost a long while ago. ”May I remind you that each student must record their own notes of the lesson…” Ji-Yu paused, her hands clasping together. ”For the things they missed out on, they can ask for at the end of the lecture.” The Choi couldn’t help but feel guilt whenever she told off students like Cordelia or even her sixth years that reminded her of the Hufflepuff. They were the kinds of students that would always be the perfect friend, even while remaining quiet.
”Upon the eightieth page of your books, you’ll notice a few familiar sections. While they cover the subjects in relation to today’s first half of the Class, a few of these questions were randomly placed into last week’s assignments.” With a pause, Ji-Yu drew her wand from the pocket of her blazer, holding it amongst the students to see. ”Something simple to start us off with, almost like you’re back in First Year.” She smiled. ”What are the spells and counter-spells to light your wands?” Looking amongst dull faces, warm eyes simply settled on Cordelia’s. ”Cordelia?”

@jiyu 11.XX.2024 Lily had barely taken the corner of the notebook when Professor Choi was calling them out for sharing notes. How had she even seen it? They were all the way in the back of the classroom and Cordelia had only turned the notebook ever so slightly so her friend could look at what she had missed. Assuming Lily would look at them to begin with. Today she seemed like she was going to, probably deciding that showing up late was enough trouble for the class period. That hope was quickly dashed by the shocked expression on the Gryffindor’s face, probably because she had never seen Cordelia called out before. The Hufflepuff couldn’t recall a time she had been, either. Slinking back into her chair in embarrassment, she moved the notes back in front of her, leaving them open enough so that if Lily wanted to copy, she probably still could. It would just take a little more effort. At least that was the idea, but Lily already had her notebook splayed out in front of her and was scribbling awful little drawings all over it, clearly knowing that she was going to get what she wanted later anyways. She wasn’t wrong. Taking notes in Charms class was a formality for the blonde these days, having read the material for the term months earlier. She liked being ahead in class mostly because it allowed her to reinforce what she had learned on her own.
The class continued on though, with barely anyone looking back to see what egregious thing Cordelia Smith must have done to illicit a call out from the professor. Nobody cared anymore. They were seventh years and each of them had done something stupid at one point in time. Upon realizing that she wasn’t some special exception to this, Cordelia returned to her normal position at her desk and started in on her notes once again. That was, until she turned to page eighty in the textbook and then was called on again to answer Professor Choi’s question. If she had an ounce of defiance in her, she probably would have groaned at having to answer such a simple question. She let her name hang in the air for a few seconds, unsure of how long was too long to not respond. Finally, she had enough of herself, “L-Lumos and-and-and N-Nox…”

Ji-Yu couldn’t help but feel guilt shortly after calling out the young Seventh years. She didn’t mean to be so observational, or even find herself looking in the direction of Cordelia and her friends. But when students like Lily Potter had given up on trying when they had tons of potential to even succeed, it was of habit to refuse them from bringing down others. And while the Choi was sure the two were simple class buddies, Lily had a mind and a mouth of her own. She was sure of it. It was tempting to apologise for her actions, but as a Professor with standards, she planned to leave that conversation for the end of the class.
With her commands set in place and the class continuing at a steady pace, Cordelia answered her simple question, leading to Ji-Yu smiling small to herself. The wand in her hand waved gently as she turned, her mouth opening to speak. ”Correct. Simple but vital.” She began, before casting the first Charm. ”Lumos— Plays a vital part in beginners magic. Magic 101 if you wish. And similar to Nox” She said, waving her wand so the soft glow disappeared abruptly. ”The two have their beneficiaries. As we all know. Lumos to bring us light when we need it and Nox when we don’t.” She paused, stepping slowly across the front of her class. ”But, being the Seventh year students you are, if you combine non verbal magic with those simple spells…You’ll wound up eventually knowing something incredibly useful.” The explanation ended with Ji-Yu’s wand lit, the spell performed without the words even necessary, but with another movement of her hand, the light disappeared.
She knew that even before she had arrived in Hogwarts, Non-verbal spells had at least been touched upon and for some students in her elder classes, they seemed to rather excel in the topic overall. But now, it gave her a chance to see who actually paid attention to the detailing of her questions, as simple as most of them where. ”Upon the eighth page, as mentioned it contains those simple Charms you once learned as well as the assignment questions. Splitting the class by sections, I want each of you to perform a simple Charm non-verbally.” It was a practical choice, to get most of the students talking amongst one another and to actually see Lily Potter’s intelligence on the line, not exactly mooching off from Cordelia. ”The key to it all, is simple concentration. And depending on the results of today, if you all succeed, classes with practicals within them will be performed non-verbally.”
Ji-Yu looked up to the back of the class, a smile on her lips as she decided to point out the students from the back row. ”Miss Smith, Miss Potter, Mr Lockhart, and Miss Krum, if you would all please move closer. For observational purposes.”

11.XX.2024 Arriving late to class was par for the course for Lily these days. She basically didn’t care. If her butt was in her chair at some point during the lesson, then she was probably learning something. Maybe. While on her stroll to Charms, the bell gonged and she shrugged to herself, starting up a whistle as she approached the classroom. Professor Choi wouldn’t give her a detention – she was too nice to do that. Finding the professors that were pushovers was pretty easy when the school rotated them so often. They were just as hungry for attention as Lily was, and she knew how to call it when she saw it. Her song started to come to an end as she rounded the corridor where the class was located, immediately locking eyes with an also late Gilderoy. She had no idea if he would take the challenge, but she bolted towards the classroom so she could get there before him. That way she wouldn’t be the last one there, and thus not being the worst distraction in the world.
Flying through the class door, a few heads turned and she was immediately met with a lecture from the professor. At least she wasn’t alone in it, and she flashed a grin at Gilderoy before hopping over to her seat next to Cordelia. The Hufflepuff barely looked at her, eyes trained on the front of the classroom like usual. But she did slide her notebook to the side so Lily could read it. Note sharing was what her blonde bestie was for! Rummaging through her bag, she produced her own Charms notebook and slapped it onto the desk audibly, humming to herself the whole time. Ready to copy down the notes Cordelia had already completed at the start of class, Lily reached for the corner of the notebook, only to hear her friend reprimanded for it. Her eyes opened wide as her head flicked back and forth from the professor to Cordelia, finally landing on the notebook as it was slowly pulled away from her fingers.
Poor Cordelia! She had never seen the girl called out before, and the Hufflepuff slunk back into her chair as the class continued. Lily mouthed a ‘sorry’ at her friend before turning back to her own notes. She felt bad for getting her in trouble, but not bad enough to start taking her own notes as the class continued, instead opting for doodling. The blonde would hand the notes over later anyways, it was part of their pact.
After some time, Professor Choi announced that they were going to be practicing non-verbal spells in small groups. Lily was the first to hop out of her chair, grabbing her friend’s arm and raising it in the air so the professor could see from the front of the room, “I’m with Cordie!” she yelled over everyone’s heads. But that wasn’t what the professor had in mind, instead calling on Gilderoy and Ana as well. Shrugging at the change of plans, she refused to let go of the Hufflepuff and lead her towards the front of the room to join the other two and the professor.

@jiyu 11.XX.2024 Her answer was kept short and sweet, though she was left wondering if the professor had intended for her to elaborate on the two spells more than she had. Everyone knew what they were, and the basics of them made it an easy one to cast nonverbally apparently. It felt strange going back to step one all over again. And then there was wandless magic, which the Hufflepuff didn’t like to think about. That was a skill that was a little out of her league, even with the skills she had in charms. Nonverbal spells were right up her alley, and the technique was practically made for someone like her. Mastering it would mean never having to repeat an incantation ever again!
Professor Choi continued on with the instructions, stating that they would be having a practical lesson today in order to get a handle on casting lumos and nox nonverbally. That was easy enough for her, and once again it meant she wouldn’t have to talk all that much. Lily was undoubtedly going to be her partner, assuming they broke up into groups of two, and she would talk enough for the both of them.
Clearly the Gryffindor was thinking the same thing, because upon being told they had to work together, Cordelia felt her wrist pulled up into the air by Lily and her name screamed out. She closed her eyes in embarrassment, trying to look away from anyone that happened to glance back at them. Unfortunately it didn’t end there; Professor Choi had a different idea of they were going to be proceeding. She and Lily were to go to the front of the classroom, as well as Gilderoy and Ana, to show how to perform the spells. Lily was dragging her out of her chair and towards the Professor, all the while Cordelia attempting to dig her heels into the ground to slow her down. She would be able to cast the spell normally, but with all eyes on her it was going to be impossible!

IT WASN’T EXACTLY IDEAL to have a bunch of your students late for class but it was the one thing Ji-Yu had to deal with. Detentions weren’t her style, neither was scolding, hence the guilt the Choi felt once she called out the Smith’s name amongst the class. Such a thing had never happened to Ji-Yu during her own student days, but instead to her mischievous brother instead. Wanting to laugh at Lily’s excitement to pair with Cordelia, it seemed a little funnier once they all moved to the front after being instructed to. Ji-Yu couldn’t help but let her smile twitch at Cordelia’s nervousness. The Choi was once like that, feeling frightened at every moment she had to spend in front of the class, but this time around her intention was only to bring the class closer together. Thank Merlin.
”In groups of four you’ll all practice in the space we have here.” She said, gesturing around her. ”Please do avoid the objects scattered amongst you. I would advise starting with a Charm as simple as Lumos and Nox before moving onto the advanced areas. Think of baby steps before you start walking and running.” Ji-Yu turned over to the group of four that had shuffled from the back, a stern look on her face. ”And no Charms that could put any of us in danger.” The instruction was mainly directed at Gilderoy and Lily, knowing their recklessness would probably invite in danger. The gaze she then sent over Cordelia was soft but warm, a smile on her lips as she nodded in Lily’s direction, as if the Choi was saying keep your eye on her.
Clapping her hands together, Ji-Yu then announced the students could begin, brown eyes watching as the quieter people within their class grouped themselves with familiar faces or friends. She smiled at the beginning attempts of the students, noticing at how some of them concluded to stick with Lumos and Nox for the practical. A wise choice honestly. Some succeed, and some failed, which was expected for those who lacked concentration. She heard the soft clatter of a few pens nearby, resulting with Ji-Yu turning to face another Seventh year: Joseph Fontaine straining with a non-verbal attempt at Wingardium Leviosa. ”Don’t focus too hard.” She joked before moving into the middle of them all. ”As mentioned, the key is simple concentration. Focus too hard you’ll turn your concentration into frustration and later on anger.”
Cordelia was simply the best in the Choi’s class, her top scores proving it, but her confidence still remained low. Ji-Yu hoped with the practicals, the Smith would see her potential, especially as a skilful Charms-User. Looking from the corner of her eyes she watched as Gilderoy struggled with a few charms of his own and held back a snort as he muttered a simple Charm and played it off as if it came non-verbally. ”Non-verbal means to not move your lips Mr Lockhart.” She then looked down at Cordelia and Lily, intrigued at their attempts.

11.XX.2024 Even though the other two had been called up with her and Cordie, Lily figured they would still be operating in groups of two. Obviously she wasn’t going to figure it out in the first go and Cordie would, so they would be the prime example of what to do and what not to do while casting nonverbally. As for Gilderoy and Ana? She didn’t know. They were the happy sorts, so being in front of the class probably suited them just as much as it did Lily. Her Hufflepuff was the only odd one out this time.
Rocking back and forth on her heels impatiently as the professor continued explaining what their task was, she slid her hand up Cordie’s wrist to just past the crux of her elbow, pulling the blonde closer to her so she could whisper, “You’ll be fine kid. Pretend it’s just the four of us.” Her encouragement meant missing the fact that the class wasn’t going to actually be watching them, they were simply up at the front of the room to make an example of. Almost immediately, all the other seventh years were out of their seats and starting to form their own little groups. “Never mind then!” she laughed, letting go of Cordie and producing her wand from somewhere inside her robes. Figuring out which pocket it was in was always tricky, since there was never a correct place for her to put it.
Keeping her mouth tightly shut while attempting lumos was difficult. Lily had never tried to purposely be quiet, because nothing ever came of that for her. She wrinkled her nose up in annoyance at her inability to produce the light spell. Cordie had already lit and extinguished her wand at least a dozen times already and Gilderoy was literally cheating by saying the incantations quietly. The Gryffindor let out a snort when he was caught by Professor Choi. “Professor, I think that’s too hard for Gilderoy to do. He likes hearing himself talk. I can use a lip-lock spell on him, it might help.” Like she was one to talk. The same problem was happening to her, and a few frustrated waves of her wand and she accidentally sent a blast of air through Cordie and right at a nearby corner, knocking over the stacks of books located there. Eyes opened wide in shock, she looked back and forth between Cordie and the professor. “Whoops?”

@jiyu 11.XX.2024 Lily’s reassurance and a sigh of relief when Professor Choi had the rest of the class break into smaller groups instead of watching her made the whole thing a lot easier. Her shoulders relaxed enough that she knew she could easily cast the required spells nonverbally without too many eyes on her. Their group had people she tended to enjoy being around too, and the professor had always been easy on her. The trick was performing her spells before Lily figured out how to skip them and go straight into something more complicated.
For once, it was quiet while the entire class attempted their casting, with a brief laugh breaking through every so often from someone who had figured out how to cast something more difficult. Cordelia knew she could do lumos and nox without struggling, and even levitation charms were a breeze for her. Before Lily could even find her wand, the Hufflepuff had already completed her task a few times, looking back at the professor for approval, as if she was asking if she could go on to the next thing. She didn’t want to show off, per se, but there was no point holding herself back either. While the rest of her group tried their hand at lumos, Cordelia tossed a pen she had in her pocket on the ground and focused on levitating it. She kept it simple, not bringing it too far off the ground, so as to not draw any attention to it. Slowly she lifted it higher and higher, until it was just under her waist, maintaining its levitation for a few seconds before letting it go.
She thought she had done something wrong, because there was a gust of wind flying through her as she released her own spell, but the look on Lily’s face told her that the Gryffindor had skipped a few steps in the lesson and gone straight for what she had been worried about. Cordelia’s already tangle of curled hair was blown backwards and caused her to blink a few times while she tried to register what just happened. The tumble of books in the corner behind her made her glance over her shoulder as Lily started what sounded like her form of an apology. A quick flick of her own wand and the books were right back where they belonged, stacked neatly in the order that she remembered them being in.
“It’s o-okay…” she said quietly, running her hands through her hair to try and get it back to how it normally sat on her head. “D-Did you get l-lumos yet?” she asked her friend, putting her own wand away and stepping closer to Lily. They were in a group after all, and that meant she had to help her out. At most it would put her back on good terms with the professor after the events at the start of class.

JI-YU FELT THE need to snort at Lily’s attempt at an insult towards the Lockhart boy but nevertheless she kept her composure. ”That won’t be necessary Lily.” She spoke. ”Mr Gilderoy. Stop cheating.” Now, with the task at hand Ji-Yu watched as it began to unwind. Things seemed calm at first, the students enjoying themselves as she watched and others struggling, with questions to ask. Lumos didn’t seem to be difficult for most of the students, neither did Nox. But amongst the students as a whole, it was interesting to see Cordelia’s confidence bloom. When Cordelia looked back in the Choi’s direction, Ji-Yu nodded, approving the look of question and was amazed once she conducted her next non-verbal spell. But the amazement ran thin once her attention diverted, the spell coming from the wand of no other…Lily Potter.
A gust of wind flew through the air, blowing up the robes of some students and pushing back hair of other students. The Choi drew a sigh, ready to withdraw her wand and conduct a simple spell to return the books to their original neat state, but instead, eyes widened in surprise as Cordelia done so for her. ”Dear Merlin…” She mumbled to herself, blinking to wet her dry eyes. Dark eyes watched as Cordelia turned to her friend, trying to help Lily improve. Lily had potential of her own, Ji-Yu knew it. But she knew Lily just wouldn’t pay attention. That was simply all she needed to do. Putting her wand away, Ji-Yu stepped a little closer to the four teenagers, but moved closer to where Cordelia and Lily somewhat huddled together. ”Miss Smith…That was exceptional!” She said quietly, not trying to direct the attention upon the shy girl. Her hands clapped together gently as she smiled with awe.
”I didn’t expect something like that so early. Nor did I expect you to perform Wingardium Leviosa with such concentration.” The Choi felt the need to ask her to perform it again, or even show her talent to the class but she didn’t want Cordelia to fall into a pit of shy-ness. She knew the feeling from a long time ago, especially with her own friends who didn’t have the confidence to speak. ”Miss Potter…I’m sure you’re glad to have such a smart friend. Maybe she’ll help you with many things.”

11.XX.2024 “That’s too bad,” Lily frowned when she couldn’t zap Gilderoy with the jinx. She flashed Professor Choi a grin before continuing, “I haven’t used that one in a while too, so I was looking forward to it.” Still, the reprimand that the Ravenclaw boy got from the teacher was just as hilarious, and Lily giggled for a few seconds before returning to her own practice. It was sort of nice not being the one under constant supervision from the professor (though she was definitely in a close second place).
Or she was in second place until her mishap with the charm that sent the books in the corner flying. There were times where Lily did things on purpose for attention and times where she was completely irresponsible and screwed up. This was the latter of the two. Her inability to properly cast non-verbally coupled with her general wild inaccuracy with spells was the perfect marriage for absolute destruction. In the seconds from when the spell shot across the classroom to when Cordie put it all back the way it was supposed to be, Lily stared at her wand like it had just killed someone. Normally she wouldn’t have cared, maybe even have welcomed it with a fit of laughter, but the spell had gone straight at Cordie, and if it had been anything other than a gust of wind…she didn’t really want to think about that.
With the professor congratulating Cordie on a job well done, the Gryffindor shook her head at not having completed the attempt at Lumos yet. “I can do whatever that thing was though,” she joked, pointing with her non-wand arm at the corner of the room. “And I’m sure she will Prof,” Lily added, throwing an arm around her Hufflepuff. There was going to be a lot of bothering the poor girl after today’s lesson, especially if they were going to eventually have a test on it. She couldn’t really be tossing gusts of wind around during an exam and expect high marks.

@jiyu 11.XX.2024 If Hogwarts was a solar system, Lily was the Sun, not only because she had the brightest and loudest aura emitting from her, but because she had the gravitational pull that brought the best and worst towards her. The strength of this pull (whether Lily knew it or not) was one of the reasons why Cordelia had difficult turning down her friendship initially and why the Gryffindor invited all sorts of trouble into her life. Cordelia didn’t necessarily welcome these sorts of things, they sort of just happened when she was around her friend and she realized it was better to fix whatever Lily caused than to walk away from it. So being noticed and praised for fixing Lily’s mess wasn’t something Cordelia thought would every actually happen, especially not after the start of today’s class.
Professor Choi kept her applause quiet, Cordelia sheepishly smiling at being able to show off the extent of what she had already taught herself. Making up for her stammering and general shyness with impressive capabilities in Charms was finally starting to pay off. The trick to keeping the successful spell hushed up though was by making sure Lily was too distracted to open her mouth, something that the Hufflepuff still hadn’t figured out how to do. Today was one of those days where it was going to be difficult simply because the classroom was quiet, with everyone else still trying to silently cast spells.
She wanted to tell the professor that she didn’t find Wingardium Leviosa all that challenging because spent her free time juggling a number of small objects around just for fun. Adding empty film canisters or pencils to the mess in the air without having to say the incantation was more than second nature to her by now. Unfortunately she couldn’t piece together the words she wanted to use and nodded her head at Professor Choi, Lily quickly tossing her arm around Cordelia and agreeing that the Hufflepuff would be able to teach her everything. “I-I d-d-don’t think that was anything, Lily…” she said quietly to her friend, in response to the girl’s enthusiasm about casting whatever the spell was. It was mostly magical discharge from her wand, cast out of frustration.
