 22ND DECEMBER 2024
Winter Break was one of Bryelle’s favourite times to escape her parents and with the annual Winter festival making another appearance, it allowed the Goyle to get away from home for another day. With no ideas in mind until she bumped into her elder Gryffindor friend: Lily on the train home on the twenty-first, the two decided to attend the festival the next day and so they did. For their plans, the two decided to meet by the Roasted Knut, one of Bryelle’s favourite places considering she stuffed her face with winter delights.
With a Cinnamon Bun poking the side of her cheeks, Bryelle chewed rather aggressively, humming at the sweet taste of the pastry treat. She had bought some for Lily too, as well as her own favourite treat but the brunette was pretty sure she had chewed on them already. ”Another bun please!” She requested from where she sat, mouth full with the current finishing bun. God, Renard would definitely be giving her many kind of looks. Possibly a few comments.
As time passed, Bryelle soon began to wonder where Lily really was. After discovering before the winter break that the blonde would be disappearing to LA soon after Christmas she wanted to spend as much time as she could with her. Even if it was just for a couple of hours. So when a familiar face and blonde hair caught her attention, Bryelle waved her hand, her other free hand covering her mouth as she began to yell the Potter’s name.

12.22.2024 Back to Hogwarts! Or kind of. Hogsmeade was close enough that it was almost like going back to the castle but not really, and dang did it feel weird! Just yesterday she had climbed onto the train to head back and home, and here she was popping right on back to Hogsmeade like nothing had changed. Lily liked the wizarding town when she didn’t have to follow the rules (not that she did in the first place anyways). Running amok, which she normally did, but without the possibility of getting in trouble? Obviously she was going to take her best buddy Bree up on that! Apparently there was a winter festival thing going on as well, so there was that too. Lily didn’t really care as long as there was food and things to talk about, and there were always things to talk about when she was involved so anything else didn’t matter to her. Energy and excitement running high, she weaved in and out of the crowd as she searched for her fellow Gryffindor, occasionally making a stop to grab something to eat. Literally all of the food here looked tasty, and her bottomless stomach was ready to try them all.
After an immeasurable amount of time (as if Lily cared about time) she finally saw a hand shoot up in the air and her name called. Like the good little werewolf she was, her ears perked at the call and immediately found the source. There Bryelle was! Running over to her friend by pushing her tiny body through the crowd, Lily stopped right in front of her and pushed her hands up at the other girl’s face. “Feel how cold my hands are!” she screeched happily. “I’ve been all over looking for you. And kind of made a few stops for food, but still, been looking all over!” She tossed her hands up in the air to physically show how much she meant. “How’ve you been since yesterday?”

When her friend came closer, Bryelle was ready to jump in her friends arms but instead was greeted to the cold hands of Lily, somewhat smushing her cheeks together. Jolting backwards, the brunette gripped onto her cinnamon bun a little tighter, hoping to not drop it as she did so. ”Jesus christ!” She exclaimed, eyes widened. ”You’re freezing! You didn’t come with gloves? How many times have I told you about that…” She muttered, adjusting the paper bag closed so her cinnamon bun would remain a few more minutes warm. The Goyle opened her bag, pushing in the bag while hands dug inside for something that was definitely necessary. Gloves.
Most times alongside Lily, Bryelle felt as if she was the older friend in the situation, the mother of the Potter for her carelessness. ”Here.” She said, extending her arms waving the gloves in the Potter’s face. They resembled her own, a deep crimson colour but simply there for warmth more so over fashion. ”You may be a werewolf but you’ll freeze when you’re not all furry.” She winked. ”We agreed to meet here!” She retorted, pouting at the blonde. ”But…have you eaten yet? You can share my cinnamon bun.” The Goyle said, hands fumbling inside her bag for the paper bag she had thrown in there. But when Lily brought up her wellbeing, the brunette felt herself shrug.
”Same old, same old. Mum and Dad looking at me like disappointments for the sixth year in a row!” Which was rather expected - coming from a long line of Slytherins only to tarnish it with one child being sorted into Ravenclaw and the other Gryffindor…All her parents could feel was true shame. ”Renard picked me up at King’s Cross instead of Mum and Dad though! So that was fun I suppose?” Renard was one person Bryelle always looked up to, but with the changes the younger Goyle went through from being in Hogwarts and the people she had met and befriended, the two were more so of friendly enemies. ”How about you though?”

12.22.2024 Lily let out a maniacal laugh as Bryelle jumped away from her hands. She hadn’t realized they were that cold! “Psssh,” Lily waved her hand at the idea of bringing gloves. “You know me. Lucky I remembered a hat on the way out.” Her gloves were normally stuffed inside the hat, but they had been misplaced at some point between getting off the train the day prior and that morning. Lily couldn’t even remember if she had them on when stepping off the train, so the odds of them being left in the cabin were high. That or her mum had moved them elsewhere for some reason. Regardless, Bryelle was digging around in her bag and produced an extra pair of gloves, practically tossing them into Lily’s face. She got the picture. Snagging them with a giggle, she slid them over her hands, wiggling her fingers into their proper places. “Oh these are nice. I like them. Still not as good as fur, but they’ll have to do.” Giving them another look over, she nodded her head. She was going to have to get her own pair of these or hope Grandma Weasley was making mittens this year. She had loads of sweaters and hats, but no mittens yet.
“I’ll get my own. Don’t want to eat all of yours before you get a chance to have some,” she said, restraining from taking a bite out of the cinnamon bun. It was difficult to turn down sugar, but she wanted one all to herself. “Walk and talk on the way there,” Lily added before walking in the direction she assumed the cinnamon bun stand was. Bryelle explained that her parents were still disappointed, and Lily continued nodding her head. She knew what that was like! Except hers would never outright say that. One look at her grades said it all. “They’ll get over it eventually. Just have to prove them they’re wrong, that’s all. Is Renard still a grouch?” she shot a wink at her friend before talking about herself, “I did so much yesterday! Ate a ton and then fell asleep the second I got home. It was great.” And then she woke up just in time to come here. It was almost like she had planned it all out from the start.

The laugh that left her friend’s lips was soon matched with Bryelle’s own cackle. Bryelle knew exactly the kind of person Lily Potter was. She followed her own rules, hence why she barely turned up or even put enough effort in, in class. She was somewhat forgetful, considering items Lily would place around would eventually go missing. But luckily enough, being Lily’s friend also meant that you picked up on those things and tackled them by bringing extra items that Lily would eventually need.
Evident with the gloves. The brunette grinned at the elder Gryffindor’s comments around them — leading to the Goyle grabbing her friends hands again. ”They’re still better than nothing!” she added, knowing that fur wouldn’t be a thing Lily would see until the full moon. ”I’d rather you having actual fingers rather than letting them freeze and break off.” She added, raising her brow as she looked up at Lily. With the offer of sharing her cinnamon bun declined, Bryelle gave her a brief shrug — pulling the paper bag that contained the pastry treat from her bag. ”Suit yourself!” She grinned, unwrapping the bag around the cinnamon bun and taking her first bite into it. Ah. Sweet heaven.
Agreeing so the two could begin to walk, Bryelle looked over at Lily, a small smile on her lips. ”I suppose so.” She breathed, watching the faint colour of her breath disappear into the air. ”I’ve been proving them wrong for sometime now. I just don’t think they’ll let it go.” Not that she minded, she was used to hearing the comments for many years now. ”When isn’t he?” She retorted with a snort. Renard was always miserable in Bryelle’s eyes. He never seemed to smile unless the situation was in his favour. ”It’s only sometimes when Christmas makes him happy.”
Raising a brow at her friend’s response, the Goyle let out another cackle of a laugh. ”So you pretty much did nothing! Nothing but eating and sleeping.”

12.22.2024 Gloves were better than nothing! How she had managed to forget her own was a probably a mystery that she would never be able to solve, especially if they had been lost on her way to Hogsmeade. “You know, you’re right. I like my fingers too much to want them to fall off. Like, I need all of them to lick after I eat a pastry.” Lily thought it was a good reason, though having one less finger would be a cool story to tell others. Obviously she would spice it up a bit and make it sound like she lost it in some battle with another werewolf or from playing Quidditch. Making something out to be more than it actually was happened to be one of her favorite past times. Technically it wasn’t lying, more so fibbing or telling a white lie. Those were harmless.
“They’ll have to eventually,” Lily reasoned. It was true. Once Bryelle graduated, that was basically the extent to which her parents could control her. That was the best part about getting out of school. Infinite freedom. Outside of working, of course. Lily had no idea what she would be doing post-graduation, but it would probably be fun. Quidditch was off the table for now and getting a job at the Ministry would be tough with her current grades. From the looks of it, Honeydukes was always hiring. “Good point. Al is basically the same. Always grumpy about something,” Lily sighed, thinking about the warnings he had given her about the energy drinks he had brewed up for her to test. They had been way too harsh for such a weak drink. “Something about big brothers. But then James is cool with what I do, so I don’t know.” Albus was probably the way he was because of how she and James sandwiched him in with their shenanigans. Not wanting to live up to the Potter name, or whatever.
Lily nodded her head as Bryelle reasoned that she really hadn’t done anything the day before. “Basically. But doing nothing is also doing something, and I’m always doing something. So it was still a successful day in my books.” The train ride home was always needlessly exhausting too, and she felt like she had to talk to everyone before they arrived at King’s Cross. Running up and down the train carts could tire Lily Potter out. “Where’s this food stand again?” she asked suddenly, realizing they had been walking in a direction without much of a plan.

Bryelle knew freezing to death was one way she didn’t want to go. And she most certainly didn’t want to see the same for her friends. But as reckless as Lily and her other friends were, it was up to Bryelle to pick up the motherly role. The gloves were only the smaller things that the Goyle tracked, but it was somewhat routine amongst them. For what one friend didn't notice, the other did. Bryelle felt her nose scrunch up at Lily's next comment, as while she would usually do the same, the sight of Lily doing it only made Bryelle laugh. "Speaking of pastries...I'm finishing this and then we're getting more." She said, pointing down at the cinnamon bun which was almost half way. Jesus she was a fast eater.
"I guess?" She found herself saying, but it felt more of a question than her own confirmation. Her parents intelligence matched rock bottom - like starfish under a rock bottom. But while Bryelle was better than them in some kind of aspect, it still bothered her from the way they spoke, simply because she was like her brother. The two of them weren't housed into Slytherin like the long line of Goyles were. Maybe it was time for a change. "It must be nice. Having two cooler and cuter older brothers." She winked as she teased. Although Renard was a grumpy sod, Bryelle didn't love him any less. "At least we have them to live life before us and warn of what's to expect." She shrugged. Bryelle hadn't really thought of her future for a while, she knew she wanted to score a better job than her parents - one being a Security Troll trainer and the other pretty much a janitor - but she didn't know where her heart lied.
The Goyle rolled her eyes at her friend's explanation. It was insane! Slowly Bryelle's mind tried to piece together how doing nothing meant you were doing something...Or was it doing something meant you were doing nothing? ”An unproductive successful day.” She remarked, teeth evident as she grinned. Grabbing onto Lily’s arm, Bryelle pulled the werewolf in the right direction, towards the stand filled with the pastry delights. ”Here you doughnut. We walked passed it like two minutes ago.”

12.22.2024 “Eww gross,” she retched, sticking her tongue out. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time someone had brought up her brothers’ supposed attractiveness. Lily didn’t see it. James was all personality and maybe if the person was into lumberjacks or something. Al was…she didn’t know what the middle Potter was. Annoying? He got on her nerves enough with his seriousness that she sort of disregarded a lot of what he did. She knew that wasn’t the nicest thing to do as his sister, but he always seemed angry at her for the things she did, whereas James laughed it off and encouraged her to keep doing what she did best. “The only nice thing Al has done for my lately is…” she paused to think about it, at a loss for a moment before remembering he had totally saved her life at the start of the term. “Well he made these energy drink potions for me. Basically said if I had more than one at a time my heart would stop.” He had been overly dramatic about the side effects of the drinks, even going as far as getting Lily to pinky-promise him that she wouldn’t down the whole box of drinks the first chance she got. “I had three emptied before I started getting this fluttery feeling in my chest,” she went on to explain, “And that’s when I stopped. Don’t need my heart going and exploding on me. I need it still.” She let out a silly laugh that bordered a screech, the sort that normally would have drawn a few concerned looks from a crowd like this. The lack of turning heads told Lily that she could get away with a lot if she really wanted to.
As for gaining life experience from her brothers, Bryelle hit that nail right on the head. Albus taught her what not to be if she ever had the hope of finding a significant other (assuming Adrian wasn’t going to be attached to her hip for the rest of their lives), and James showed her all the secrets of Hogwarts life and what to expect in the beyond. It probably drove Al absolutely crazy that his siblings were so similar, but he only had himself to blame for that one. All he had to do was loosen up a little bit and have fun. Lily didn’t think that was hard to do.
She gave her friend a thumbs up, “A very unproductive, successful day of doing nothing. My favorite.” Repeating it was only going to bring it home that she enjoyed not doing anything as much as she did doing something. There was a very fine line between having a good time while doing lazy stuff and actively searching for fun. She was positive that she had finally found that perfect balance, like right now. The two Gryffindors weren’t doing anything that exerted more energy than was necessary, but they were also making something out of their free day. “Right! Doughnut!” she cheered as Bryelle pulled her back towards the stand. “I almost forgot, talking about boring Albus things. Unless you like him. Then I can tell you all his dirty secrets,” she grinned evilly as she stopped at the end of the line for the pastries. There were so many good Albus stories to tell, and even if Bryelle didn’t like her brother like that, Lily was still going to tell her anyways.

BRYELLE’S INTEREST IN boys and girls had only proven to be her downfall in everyday life. Almost everyone she saw was attractive in their own little way, but while she was loud…Confident in most things…The Goyle knew she would never approach anyone she liked. Though, it was a shame she wouldn’t see those pretty faces she once saw in passing. Lily’s brothers would just have to do. ”What!” She defended, grinning. ”There’s nothing wrong with me finding them hot. That beard James has going on…” Bryelle teasingly trailed off, shaking her head. It was truly only to rile up the Potter.
The mention of energy drink potions only led to the Goyle rolling her eyes, being reminded of the late nights she spent studying for her OWLs she somehow managed to pass during the end of her fifth year. The thought back then was tempting, to beg her brother to create some for herself in order to stay up a lot longer, giving her the kick that no mere muggle drink could provide. ”Are you sure? I always thought you didn’t have a heart, more of an insane brain.”
It still must have been nice to have two brothers over the singular one Bryelle had, one experiencing life before the other. For the brunette, Renard was special, a one of a kind in the Goyle family, considering he was the first to not pick up their plain stupidity. But because of it, he was forced to teach Bryelle everything he knew, while juggling his life. While the Goyle agreed that doing nothing all day…Was her favourite thing to do, but doing it all the time tended to be tedious. ”I like him! Even if he’s quiet but…Dirty secrets?” She repeated in question, corners of her lips tugging into a smile. It somewhat reflected the smile Lily had until pale eyes wandered, taking in the other pastries she missed earlier. If Bryelle was as hungry as she was earlier, she was sure her stomach would be reaching for the pastries, begging to be fed at least.

12.22.2024 Yup, it was the lumberjack look James had going after all. The ruggedness of a professional Quidditch player had everyone swooning. For a moment, Lily’s heart ached, knowing that she would never reach that level of play because she had quit the house team. An argument could be made that they would let her back on without a second thought, but even in her scatter-brained head, she knew that the pro teams would look at her abandonment as a negative trait in her comradery and team spirit. If she couldn’t even pull herself together to play with her housemates, how would she ever be able to do that with the top tier players in the world? She knew she could be completely wrong about that, but it also wasn’t out of the scope of reality. That and she played haphazardly, selfishly, and overall was erratic on the pitch. Having the entirety of the summer and first term to think about it had been a great period of self-reflection. It also meant she could put her worries into other areas of interest, like skipping class and goofing around with her friends. “I don’t know, I just don’t see it. But I guess I shouldn’t, so that’s a good thing.”
Lily let out a loud but brief laugh at Bryelle’s comment about her brain. She hit that nail right on the head. “Crazy brain, yes. But I’ve got a heart too,” she reached out for her friend’s hand and placed it on her chest. “See? Beating away at a mile a minute like always. Plus I need it for when the werewolf hunters come to kill me with their silver bullets. They wouldn’t bother me if I was missing my heart.” She didn’t even know if werewolf hunters existed, but they sounded pretty dang cool. Going around and trying to tango with werewolves was a job she wanted in her next life. See the other side of things, figure out why people didn’t like her kind.
“Hmmm…” Lily pondered, unsure if she should spill all of her brother’s secrets or make new ones up on the spot. If she did the latter, they would have to be true to his character. Like maybe how he still sleeps with a stuffed rabbit named Binky, or something stupid like that. Narrowing her eyes as she watched Bryelle’s reaction, Lily decided against it. “Nah, I need this sort of ammo for the poor sucker that decides to stick to him for life. But hey,” Lily tilted her head as she shrugged, “There isn’t any competition from the looks of it, and Alby is definitely starved for love.” Bryelle would be a pretty cool sister-in-law too.

JAMES POTTER HADN’T EXACTLY been the light of Bryelle’s life unlike other people the Goyle genuinely had crushes on. But from his rough looks and those devilish smiles, how couldn’t a girl’s heart skip a beat? Bryelle still found Lily to be prettier though, as well as a bunch of other people, though she couldn’t see herself admitting it anytime soon. She recalled of the times Lily played for Gryffindor, but was always confused as to why she left. She was the best and one of the youngest ___ , now she was queen of goofing off. Maybe one day, just before Lily’s supposed graduation, Bryelle could convince her otherwise. ”That would be creepy.” Bryelle added on, lips curving to a grin. Finding anyone you’re related as attractive to was pretty…odd. Surely people like that didn’t exist anymore. ”Do let James and Albus know I say hi though. Oh and uhm. Merry Christmas."
With her hand now on Lily's chest, Bryelle rolled her eyes but smiled at the thumping of the Potter's heart. It was a little faster than usual, either because of the Gryffindor's werewolf nature or simply because of how riled up Lily always was. "Werewolf hunters?!" The Goyle parroted in worry. "You're being hunted? Right now?" Bryelle felt the need to cover her friend with her jacket and pull her into a hidden area, just for her protection. Werewolves didn’t see…eye to eye with many wizards in today’s society and it confused the Goyle as to why. Vampires and Veelas…Those who were susceptible to allure in targets were…Fine. At least that’s what Bryelle assumed anyway.
At Lily’s change of heart, she pulled at her friend’s arm, sporting a pout as she did so. ”You can’t just leave me hanging like that!” Especially with the curious mind Bryelle had anyway. ”Now I’m actually intrigued in knowing. Don’t tell me. Is it a wet-the-bed kind of thing? I’d be totally cool with like…not telling anyone.” She grinned, knowing it was probably something completely different anyway. ”Starved for love…” She parroted, tilting her head to look upon her friend. ”Maybe I’ll marry your brother. Just so I can baby you around more.” Especially with the cold they were facing, Lily would continue as if things were still like summer.

12.22.2024 “If they let me get a word in while they’re bickering, I’ll let them know,” she laughed, giving Bryelle a thumbs up as she did so. Lily knew she had the upper hand when it came to talking over other people at school, but at home it felt like the complete opposite sometimes. James was pretty good at pushing everything she did off to the side, almost like it didn’t affect him. Albus, on the other hand, made it pretty vocal when he was dissatisfied with her actions. So far break was fine but she was sure they would all be on edge the closer Christmas got to them. There were a lot of reasons for that and she knew for a fact that she was going to be fairly testy if either of them got under her skin. It didn’t take a lot for that to happen these days.
Lily wasn’t even sure if her friend could feel her heartbeat through her thick winter jacket, but it was there pounding away nonetheless. She shook her head side to side as the werewolf hunters comment looked like it missed its mark with Bryelle. “Nah none right now. But I’m sure there are some super scary dudes out there that hunt werewolves and vampires,” she shrugged. Werewolf hunters weren’t really much of a worry for her because she knew she was faster than them. Plus who wouldn’t want to run from a life or death situation like that? It sounded totally fun to her and the consequences that could come from it were virtually nonexistent in her fantasy.
“I think he has a curse on me that lets him know whenever I bad mouth him,” Lily explained confidently. “And no, not bed wetting or anything too bad. He’s just…” she paused trying to think of the correct way to phrase it. Albus was still her older brother and as much as he really got on her nerves for little things, she couldn’t go around spilling every single detail of his life. Even to Bryelle. As she tried to find the words she wanted to use, Bryelle seemed to decide that she could just marry Albus to find out. Lily let out a hysterical laugh before placing both of her hands on her friend’s shoulders. “If you pull that off, that might be the greatest accomplishment of this century.”

CRACKING A SMILE, BRYELLE LAUGHED alongside her friend, nodding in understanding. It must have been chaotic in the Potter household, being the only female and having two older brothers bicker about nonsense. Luckily for Bryelle’s family line, it was just herself and Renard and she believed they got along fairly well. There were moments in which the rebel in the Gryffindor girl would jump out and somewhat irritate her older bro, but she loved him regardless.
The thought of someone hunting after her friend was still a frightening thought, even if Lily tried to subdue the thought with reassurance. Someone was out there hunting innocent people for who they were. Sure, there were stories — rumours that some dark creatures got out of hand with their shifts, but how could they control something so uncomfortable? ”Are the Professors aware of this? Prepared if we suddenly have a wave of hunters just appear out of no where?” The Goyle knew even if the Professors weren’t, she would do her best to be ready to help her friend into a society of safety. But knowing the type of person Lily was, she would find enjoyment out of the danger, running for her life was something she would probably enjoy on a daily basis.
”So if you told me a secret, he would know instantly? Like that Muggle theory about ears warming up when someone is talking about them?” She questioned, raising a brow in disbelief. It sounded ridiculous now that she asked, but rather hilarious. Bryelle was sure she had never seen a woman of interest in Albus’ life, but now she was determined as ever to be the first Lady. ”Don’t tempt me. Because I’ll actually go ahead and pursue him.” She winked.

12.22.2024 Lily shrugged. She had no idea if the school was prepared for werewolf hunters (if they even existed in the first place). There were scarier people out there and they used magic. Everyone needed to be worried about those crazies. It was easy to forget about them when they weren’t running around blowing things, or people, up on a daily basis. Going to school and finishing up seventh year was more at the forefront of her worries right now. “I’d give them the old one-two if they tried coming after me,” Lily joked, throwing a few punches in front of her, narrowly missing a passerby. “They wouldn’t know what hit them. Werewolf punches hurt, you know.” It had its benefits of strength and stamina increases, and being able to run around like wild was even more enjoyable now. “Anywho…I don’t think we need to worry about them.” If anything, she could easily outrun the hunters.
“Maybe? He gave me these drinks he brewed up at the start of term and I think he did something to them that makes it known whenever I say his name. Could be voodoo or something like that. Albus has some weird hobbies,” Lily explained. If potion making – a practical and profitable profession – was strange, then she had no idea what made him normal. His personality around her was trash, and he was so angsty all the time. He made her eye-roll so hard that it actually gave her headaches sometimes. “Do it. And I won’t stop bugging him until he takes you seriously too. If it gets him off my back for doing what I want to do, then we all win here.”

BRYELLE COULDN’T HELP BUT FROWN. It was as if at any given serious moment, Lily would always find a way to find the light in it, to oversee it as humour and nothing frightening or dangerous. Bryelle somewhat envied her for that, for being so carefree, you didn’t even matter what could possibly happen in the future. It was scary to know that there were people who were out there, using magic for the wrong means, the dark arts as all Professors would say, but even the curious minds of Muggles were enough to get people like Lily in trouble. She hated following rules after all. ”The one-two…” Bryelle repeated in confusion, until Lily swung at the air. It only drew a smile from the Goyle, an eventual laugh escaping shortly after. The brunette reached out forward for her friends hands, hoping she wouldn’t hit anyone passing by. ”They hurt, but being tormented also hurts.” She couldn’t imagine Lily being kidnapped, even the slight thought of it made her sick. ”I guess…There are bigger fish to fry.” Fish being Lily needing to finish seventh year and Bryelle…moving into her seventh year. Oh Merlin, she was closer to graduation now than ever.
”That sounds…not creepy in the slightest.” She could envision her parents doing something similar, considering the amount of times she brings them up in conversation because of their sheer stupidity. ”Remind me to never let my parents speak to your brother…” Though at the joke of Bryelle’s pursuing Lily’s brother and the now revealed information, the Goyle’s lips turned downwards. ”Maybe I’ll just try to seduce James instead…Albus seems…odd.” She laughed.
