24TH DECEMBER 2024
It was the first Christmas Eve without Zenevieva’s parents this year. The reminder came across when she greeted her aunt in the morning, an unsteady smile on her face as the two discussed their plans for Christmas day, to enjoy a meal together and open some kind of presents. Zeneveiva appreciated the gesture but she knew Christmas would never be the same. After enjoying herself yesterday in the Hogsmeade festival, where she bumped into a fellow Ravenclaw: Tobias, Zen decided to return craving the foods that the festival had as an overall.
This time, the half-vampire passed through the ice rink, watching in awe for almost ten minutes at two young brunettes with incredibly similar features — twins perhaps — skate and laugh with one another. Zen thought it was ultimately beautiful, the happiness family brought around as an overall. But soon, she continued, her stomach grumbling for the delicious delights that the Roasted Knut brought. Turning a corner that led to all of the stalls from the advice she was given the day before, Zen’s green eyes focused on the snow in the ground. Some areas were untouched, pure and remained crispy white while others were darkened — black almost from the sludge of everyone’s feet crushing against it.
Lost in her own analysation’s, teeth pulled back at her bottom lip, chewing it nervously. She started to think of the possibilities of what would happen if she bumped into Bianca, or genuinely anyone she knew. But when her face collided against someone’s back, Zen’s hands lifted in instinct while she jumped back, her eyes widening while her mouth dropped open — trying to find words that would allow her to apologise. ”I-I…” She stammered.@johanson & i hope this works

Nice Matt. words: #### | Matt hadn't been to the Hogsmeade festival in awhile, but it had been something he wanted to go to again, more or less just to get out of the house and enjoy himself. He had done a great job of being a hermit during the early part of the Winter break, and his dad had been pushing him to get out and about more, so instead of hearing another lecture, he'd agreed. Granted, it was definitely worth it, but had there even been a need for him to argue against it? Shaking his head, he looked around briefly, dressed in a gray hooded pullover, blue jeans, sneakers, and a black and gray beanie with black wool gloves, he was dressed for warmth. He had to be with all of the snow, but he wasn't entirely planning to play in it. Skate on the ice rink yes, but not play in the snow otherwise.
His first thought however had been to go get something to eat, and that had left him standing for a few minutes off to what he believed had been away from most of the foot traffic. He hadn't expected someone to crash into his back, causing him to step forward slightly to keep balance. Turning his head with a surprised and curious expression across his face, he looked at someone he thought he had seen, at least in passing, at Ilvermorny and Hogwarts. He knew she wasn't someone who talked a lot or was well known, as otherwise he'd have remembered who she was. Letting that thought fade, he chuckled to let her know it wasn't a big deal to him. "Don't worry about it. You okay?" he said, hoping she hadn't been hurt by bumping into him. Then again, he wasn't that much of a brick wall.

The sights of Hogsmeade had Zen’s interest before she had even turned up. Her mother would once tell her stories of how she would, alongside her family, enjoy the delights Hogsmeade provided during the winter break which ultimately led to Zen dreaming of a time when the Novell family could go to the UK to do so. Though the time never came alongside them, Zen’s aunt Adèle was more than willing to provide such a chance just days prior, she knew she would eventually find herself back here.
But starting the day on an empty stomach was never the plan, hence the trip to the Roasted Knut that only left her face pressed the back of someone else. Apologise Zen… She thought to herself, but only stammers left her lips. The person seemed kind enough to ask on Zen’s wellbeing rather than yell at her for pretty much barging them and the half-vampire nodded in response. ”I-I’m fine!” She stammered, trying to force a smile upon her lips. ”I-I’m…so sorry about that.” And there were her words. Green eyes looked up at the male, especially because of how tall he stood in comparison to her own 5”4 height.
”I-I guess you’re a Hogwarts student too?” She found herself questioning, a way to prevent herself for apologising another five more times. His face seemed to be rather familiar, as if she had seen it while passing by. But with the small amount she paid to her surroundings in Hogwarts in comparison to the caution she felt in Ilvermorny, who exactly knew?

notes here. words: #### | "Na, it's fine. Don't worry too much about it," he replied with a friendly smile. He wasn't hurt and neither was she, which was a good thing. That had been a bit of a concern, but he wasn't going to be too bothered by it. Besides, no harm no foul. He hadn't been negatively affected in any way. Granted upon realizing the height gap, that drew him away from his initial reaction of being bumped into. He knew he was tall, but to be that much taller than someone made him feel a bit unnerved. He was wanting to shrink, even though that was something that he wouldn't really succeed at. Being a wallflower kind of went away in part due to being as tall as he was. He tried to move that thought out of his brain as he heard her ask if he was a Hogwarts student. She sounded a little unsure of himself, which reminded him of his shy days.
"Hogwarts and for a time Ilvermorny as well. Matt Johanson," he replied as an introduction. He wondered just how likely it was that she would even know he had been at Ilvermorny given her question, but it was a change of subject that was welcome nonetheless. He figured it was a good idea as there was always the chance she was one of those people who felt that the had to apologize for hours despite being forgiven already for what they did wrong. Not entirely a bad thing, just the repetition could get annoying. He noticed that from when he was shy, often apologizing eight or nine times for something before being told to stop. Or being ignored, whichever the person opted to do in response to his umpteenth apology.

Zenevieva couldn’t help but still show her guilt across her face even after her apology had been accepted from the person before her. His smile seemed friendly, inviting even, but the Novell knew trusting people too early usually led to her own downfall. She wouldn’t become a victim again. She refused to. ”As long as…You’re okay.” She murmured in a response, pushing her hair behind her ear as she peered up at him. As he introduced himself, Zen smiled small. ”Nice to meet you Matt…I’m Zenevieva.” She paused briefly before adding on: ”Call me Zen. Full name’s a bit of a…mouthful.”
His face seemed a lot more familiar now that he had mentioned his time in Ilvermorny, as Zen used to watch faces pass by but never exactly…Talk to them. It was that reserved nature within herself as well as the person afraid to be seen by Bianca and her crew. ”Really?” She began in question, brows raising in surprise. ”What house were you in? I was in Horned Serpent before I moved here.” It just happened to be a strange coincidence that all of the students from Ilvermorny moved along with her. She had been gone for at least a month until she saw all of her closest friends again.

Sorry this is so late! words: #### | "Nice to meet you then, Zen," he replied with a friendly smile. He did understand being shy, and maybe untrusting if that thought went through her head at all. He had been that way for a long time before he had gone to Ilvermorny, and yet he knew his path in life was unique, as was everyone's. No-one would be able to overcome shyness and trust issues the way he had. Shaking that thought from his mind mentally, he instead found himself thinking back to his friends at Ilvermorny yet again. It happened a lot, and he had to wonder if he'd actually run into them at the school. He hadn't run into either of them yet, and it stung a bit that he hadn't. Then again it was really only a matter of time. Barring something cataclysmic, they had to have made the transfer out to Hogwarts at some point. With that thought in mind he turned his mind back to his current conversation with Zen.
"Thunder Bird. For a time I was partially expecting Pukwudgie but I ended up in Thunder Bird," he replied with a shrug. It had been a small surprise, but it had proven to be worth it in the long run. Of course hard to say he wouldn't have met his friends if he'd ended up in any of the other three houses, but he was happy with how things had played out. There had been so much for him to overcome that without those two it would've been difficult. Heck, he didn't think there would be a time where he'd be having a conversation with someone he hadn't met before with the calmness he currently had if it weren't for his friends at Ilvermorny. He then shook his mind clear again. He was day-dreaming a bit too much right now and had to keep his focus on the conversation he was in, not friends he hadn't seen in half a year.

ZENEVIEVA FORCED A smile, knowing she didn’t exactly have anything else to say. Matt seemed to be a great guy, proven at the fact that he didn’t exactly…Yell at her for bumping into him. Nor was he even in a bad mood. In a way, Matt reminded the half-vampire of Ellie. She was shy in some form and their original introduction was met from a collision. The secondary was through Kaylee. The three of them were the closest group of friends even to this very day. In a state of confusion, Zen peered up at the taller male, her dark brow raising. ”E-Expecting Pukwudgie?” She repeated. Had anyone expected to be placed in a certain house?
Zen herself didn’t know much about Ilvermorny until her final week of freedom as an eleven-year-old, researching as much as she could from the books scattered around her home and the information she got from her mother. Even then, Zenevieva had no expectations in where she would be placed. Though, she enjoyed her time in Horned Serpent…Until her departure that is. ”What was T-ThunderBird like?” She questioned, considering she didn’t really make…Many friends with anyone outside of her own Houses. Bianca ruined that idea for her.
”But now, in Hogwarts…W-What house are you in?”
