"Germán, I know that this is going to sound insane, and you're probably going to say no… but I still have to ask." Camila took in a breath, watching her manager's facial expression. "I know that I can't really go outside or do things like a normal person anymore… and sometimes it's… sort of lonely, being the only person my age I really know here. And I know that I can't go anywhere without being recognized—me, Camila—but what if I could still go out sometimes… maybe?"
"What are you going on about?"
"I mean… what if I took Polyjuice Potion?" Camila asked Germán more clearly. "What if I could transform myself into somebody else, somebody around my age, so that I could go out in public when I'm not working? Like an alter ego." Putting it like that made her sound as though she was out of her mind, Camila thought. "And the public wouldn't know, and the media wouldn't know if I can keep it a secret so that I don't turn into myself again where it would be suspicious, and I can still go with security guards to make sure that nothing happens to me…"
She felt as though she was beginning to need this for her own sanity. "Please, Germán? You know I won't do anything stupid." She didn't want to risk her life or her career; she just needed a break from being famous sometimes, even if that was for an hour or two a week.
"I'll think about it."
"Do you remember what you told me about the Polyjuice Potion two weeks ago? I'll agree to it, on two conditions." Two conditions, Camila thought, were better than a no. "First, we'll have to find someone who won't be in the same places as you are. Ideally, someone who no one would know. You can't live someone else's life. That is why my niece has agreed to let you use her hair for your little potion. It's almost infallible. Julieta is nineteen, and she lives in Argentina. No one will know her. No one will recognize you, and your English will not be a problem."
Camila nodded, trying to hide her excitement that she already had someone who was willing to give her her hair. Was that weird?
"Second, you must follow the instructions of your security team. If they see that you are not being responsible with the potion, you won't be allowed any more of it. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Germán. I understand, and I won't disappoint you. I promise!"
The longest part about getting the potion ready had been waiting for Julieta's hair to arrive. Once that was incorporated into the rest of the mixture, Camila was ready to test it out. In case she had some adverse reaction to it, she was only going to consume a small amount for her first try. All she needed to know was if the almost glittery liquid that she was holding out in front of her would work.
She swallowed, anticipating the taste to be horrid in spite of its pleasant appearance. Camila couldn't quite find a way to describe the taste of the potion, but it wasn't bad. It was sweeter than she had expected it to be, but the relatively good flavor of it didn't keep her from feeling as though she might gag. Gradually, she could feel the sickening sensation that her body was changing its shape to match that of Germán's niece. Camila was glad not to be looking in a mirror to watch the effect of the potion; it was bad enough from what she could see of how her physical appearance was morphing into one completely unknown to her. Strangely, she felt as though she had more muscle tone; what she could see of her skin had become slightly lighter, and the hair that fell over her shoulders was blonde. Her clothes seemed to fit without any difficulty, so that was helpful, though her shoes were slightly tighter than they had been a few minutes before. Maybe she wouldn't have to buy a new wardrobe to look like Julieta, at least.
Stepping into the bathroom once whatever the potion had done to her felt complete, Camila took a long look at herself in the mirror. Her teeth didn't even look the same, she realized, but she was happy with how she looked. She moved around a little, just to get used to how it felt to be inside someone else's body. "Julieta," she spoke, looking at herself in the mirror and seeing the older girl staring back at her instead of her own appearance.
She wasn't ready to run out into the world just yet, but it was good to know that she had it as an option.
OOC: The dialogue is all in Spanish. I just got lazy.
