The sounds of J.T.’s black dress shoes echoed off the stone steps of the spiral staircase as he impatiently paced back and forth at the top. His plaid green shirt was uncharacteristically partially untucked from his black slacks due to his trek from the dungeons up to Ravenclaw tower. His normally combed dark brown hair was ruffled from repeatedly absentmindedly running his hand through it.
J.T. took a deep breath as he straightened his Slytherin tie. For the millionth time he argued with himself. Telling himself this was stupid and he should go back to his common room. Another part said he answer the damn riddle and walk into the Ravenclaw Common Room. He knew the answer. Puzzles were his specialty. Well, that and be a socially inept spaz.
He stopped to grasp the large bronze eagle knocker and knocked it again hoping someone would hear. He was met with the riddle once again and rolled his eyes, biting his lip to contain the answer. He knew that the student he was looking for would be here at this time. He always was. J.T. totally hadn’t watched him to learn that.
J.T. leaned his head against the door in exasperation. Why would anyone want to talk to him anyway? Everyone at school that he was pureblood supremacist. They thought he called that girl last year a mudblood. He’d been in so many fights with Gryffindor’s he’d lost track. His last name was Travers. And he always kept to himself, not correcting any of it. That’s why he needed to talk with Riley. He was two years above J.T. and they’d never shared a word together. That didn’t matter. He’d seen in the papers what Riley had done. The whole school was on about it. How he’d broken off and done what J.T. always dreamt of.
Finally, he lifted his head from the door and let out a beleaguered sigh. He turned on heel with a sullen look, shoulders slumped, and began to slowly descend the spiral staircase of Ravenclaw Tower.
