Rosie has done the scary thing and at this point had told all the people she loved and had regular contact with that she was a vampire. Telling her dad had been the worst of it. He was a muggle. He didn’t understand her world anyway. So telling him that not only was she a witch, but now she was a literal blood drinking creature was a lot for him to take in. But he was strong, he stomached the news well. And the worst part was behind her. Now she just had to keep moving forward.
But there was one person who got it more than everyone else. Jamie. Jamie wasn’t a vampire. But she was different in similar ways. So Rosie likes spending time with her. She invited her over that night to show her a movie that her dad had sent her in the mail about a week after he found out. He said he had seen it when he was a kid and that she needs to watch it. All she knew was that it was about vampires and werewolves. So she figured it would be good to experience with Jamie.

Jamie had grown up a Muggle - she had seen more Muggle movies than she could count, and definitely more than she could remember. Some people who hadn't grown up with them probably wouldn't understand Jamie's fascination or intense consumption, but movies were movies, and they were amazing. The only thing that made them better was getting to watch them with friends, so Jamie was thrilled when Rosie invited her over. Apparently Rosie's dad had sent her a movie about vampires and werewolves after Rosie had been turned. It was kind of old now - released in 2008, over fifteen years ago - but Jamie was excited to see it nonetheless. Even if the movie was bad, time with Rosie was always good.
"I brought popcorn!" Jamie announced as she Apparated into Rosie's apartment. With anyone else she would've followed common courtesy and knocked first, but Rosie knew she was coming and it seemed kind of silly to make her friend go through the work of getting up to go to the door. In addition to the bags of buttered popcorn in her arms, Jamie had also brought her favorite Muggle candy - Skittles - and some strawberry soda. if they were going to have a Muggle movie night, they were going to do it in style.

Rosie had grown up in a mixture of the two worlds, but her dad had been more into sports than he was into movies. So on the downtime that he had from working at his law firm, he would always be watching sports or reading about them in the muggle newspapers he had sent to the house. That was how Rosie developed her love for sports and sports journalism. Not to mention the fact that her mother had played Quidditch for half her life.
Jamie apparated into her apartment and announced that she brought popcorn. Rosie usually would have jumped at that, but she could smell her as soon as the first particle of herself came into existence in her space. Smelling blood was definitely the worst part of this whole thing. “yum!” she smirked. Rosie had always had a sweet tooth but she couldn’t stomach sugar anymore. It was disappointing. “I got my stash out for you.” she had her box that always lived under the bed in her dorm out on the coffee table. She slid the disk into the DVD player and the sat back on the couch.

Jamie jumped onto the couch where Rosie was, putting the popcorn bags on the coffee table. Rosie said she brought out her sugar stash, and Jamie grinned. It reminded her of old times, when they had sat on their beds in the dormitory, eating sugar and talking about everything and nothing. That was the thing about old friends – they knew you when you were young and innocent. Even if Rosie hadn’t known Jamie before she became a werewolf, there was still an innocence to being younger. And of course, Rosie remembered when Rosie’s eyes were brown, not red, and she had normal teeth instead of fangs. Not that that mattered – she was still Jamie’s best friend.
“Okay, bets on who’s the vampire and who’s the werewolf?” Jamie asked, looking at the cover of the movie. There were three people on the DVD case, two of them boys and one a girl. “I bet she’s the vampire. She’s pale as hell.” Then again, one of the guys was kind of pale, too. Or maybe they were trying to break vampire stereotypes and the other guy would be the vampire.

Jamie sat with her and grabbed the movie case while Rosie studied the remote to make the thing work. She suggested that the girl in the middle was the vampire and Rosie laughed when she said it was because she was super pale. “gee thanks.” she teased. She knew most vampires were very pale. She was pale. But she had always been pale despite the fact that her mom was darker. “I bet this guys a werewolf.” she pointed to the darker one. “he’s too muscular to be a vampire.” she finally found the play button and the movie started.

Jamie nudged her shoulder against Rosie’s when her friend gave a sarcastic thanks for the pale comment. “You’re welcome.” The teasing was nice. Jamie hadn’t realized how stressed she was until she began to unwind with Rosie beside her. Rosie said the other guy, the not pale one, was a werewolf because of his muscles. “He’s too muscular to be a werewolf, too,” she pointed out. Jamie had muscle tone from all her years of Quidditch, but she doubted any werewolf would be able to get as ripped as that guy having to endure the monthly changes.
“They’re going to Washington?” Jamie asked, furrowing her brow. She really didn’t know enough about America to figure out why a move from Arizona to Washington would be such a big deal. The main girl seemed to be a bit whiny for Jamie’s tastes. And where were the vampires!? (Granted, it was only the first five minutes, but Jamie was impatient.)

“yeah but at least he can still eat. This guy looks constipated. Ergo, vampire.” she pointed to the pale guy with the pointy hair. She wondered now if this was supposed to be a scary movie or what. The way that the first scenes were shot suggested it might be, it was pretty dark. “yeah that’s up north.” Rosie said proudly. She hadn’t gone to that state, but she knew where it was. She was proud of her vague USA knowledge. Though she knew how long it took to drive from Arizona to there, days. “did they drive the whole way without speaking?” she asked. Man this girl was dramatic.

“Rosie, I love you, but I don’t need to know that much about your bathroom habits,” Jamie said, shoveling a handful of popcorn into her mouth. The constipation comment probably wasn’t a reflection of Rosie’s own experience – though now that she had mentioned the pale guy looked constipated Jamie couldn’t unsee it. “North, got it.” Which meant it was colder – better for vampires, maybe? Rosie asked if they drove the whole way without speaking, and Jamie shrugged. “Maybe none of it was plot relevant. Or maybe they just really don’t like each other.” Jamie could certainly understand not wanting to talk for some of a car ride, but wouldn’t it get kind of mind-numbing to be quiet the whole time?

Rosie rolled her eyes with a snicker when Jamie teased her about her constipation comment. Of course she didn’t mean it that way, but she knew vampires were depicted as being broody and sad all the time. He definitely had that look. She shrugged “yeah maybe.” she agreed. This was something about muggles movies Rosie never got. She liked just watching the real life stuff they always left out. “so when does the super natural come out?” she grabbed a chocolate from her box.
