James decided to go to the Black Lake for some relaxation. Of course, the only relaxation he got was from lettering to his mother once in a while. His mother seemed to get sadder that he didn't seem to visit her that often anymore. But James knew the exact reason why he didn't come to visit. It was to dangerous and risky. He didn't want to put his mother in danger, and if he visited her, he'd be putting her in grave danger. He need to keep her secret for a while. But he still visited her over summer break and Christmas break. He was determined to spend at least that time with her.
He shook himself out of his daze and realized he'd walked all the way to the lake. He sighed and sat down near the edge, trying to smile at the beautiful nature, but he just wasn't in it. He hadn't been into anything for the past month. he just felt depressed, and yet he had no idea why. He sighed. Then he heard a snap of a twig and he jumped.

Poppy needed to get out of the castle. Not to anywhere in particular, just...out. So she put on her cloak and good winter boots, and trusted out of the castle down towards the lake. She remembered summers by the lake with her family, back when it was whole, and what an amazing time it had been. Now it felt like it was a whole lifetime ago. Would they go back this summer, even though Rob would not be there to push them off the rocks into the cold lake water? What would they do without his campfire singalongs? It just wouldn’t be the same without him, and Poppy didn’t think she could handle being out there without him. As she made her way to the lake, she saw a boy around her age sitting near the edge. She recognized him as a Gryffindor in her year, James or John, something with a J. She opened her mouth, about to announce her presence when she stepped on a twig and it snapped, causing him to jump. “Sorry! I swear I was just about to announce myself,” she called sheepishly, making her way down to where he was sitting. “Do you mind if I join you?” she asked him politely. @james

To James's relief, it was a girl. And she didn't look hostile, which really helped James from not whipping out his wand. He had been on edge for months, and even the slightest noise caused him caution. He gave her a smile, although it was weak- and half-hearted. But he tried nonetheless. "Um, sure, I really have nothing else to do, so okay," he said, patting the ground next to him. She didn't seem hostile or mean, like some other girls he knew, but he couldn't confirm that now.
He held out his hand to shake, hopefully letting the girl know he was friendly as well. Maybe he could finally have a friend. But he was moving much to fast and decided to say. "Um, by the way, my name is James Matthews, what's yours?" James asked, tilting his head to the side curiously.
