Her brown eyes watched him. She could have sworn his expression fell slightly. "Jealously? I wish it were as simple as that. I haven't had the opportunity to ask," she admitted, shrugging once again. Jessie kept her watch on him, jumping in panic as his chair fell back. Though, it was a calculated move on his end. Her shoulders sagged in relief at the realization. "Merlin, please be careful," she breathed. "The sound of your body hitting the floor might disturb others who are studying." She threw another jab at him, but this time it held a teasing tone, rather than a condescending one. His question once again caught her off guard, but there was no point in clamming up now. "Well.." she thought for a moment, her thick brows knitting together. "Usually one of my friends ask if I want to stay with them for the summer. Which I never decline. But I think with everything going on this year, it's slipped their minds. I don't want to burden them by asking. I already feel guilty enough. I've thought about asking permission to board here over the summer. I don't know if it's safe though," she babbled. Her chatterbox personality trait was starting to shine through; it was evidence of her growing more at ease with Simon. simon sixten svendsen

The teen bobbed his head up and down into a couple of nods when she repeated 'Jealousy?', pulling a breath in through his lips before he sighed after she finished, "Ask them what their problem is. They're probably too coward to say it aloud anyways and you could have a little fun making them uncomfortable." the corners of his lips twitched upwards at the end of the statement. Realistically, that would be inappropriate at Christmas dinner, but it would be worth it. Her family honestly sounded like a bunch of wankers.
Simon found himself feeling a surprising mixture of sympathetic and protective over the matter, which was weird since he and Jessie were never friendly in the past. Simon had a way with tirelessly defending the underdog; blame it on the Gryffindor in him. Sadly, it seemed that Jessie was suffering from the ugly duckling syndrome in her family because she had magic in her blood.
As Jessie told him to be careful, his icy blue saucers met hers calmly as the front legs of his chair came crashing down and he shrugged with an expression so apathetic it was comical. Simon wasn't trying to annoy Jessie, he was surprisingly enjoying their light conversation today. Maybe he just enjoyed playfully teasing her a little bit. Oh, boy.
Jessie was confiding him in a way where he felt like he could give her a little input. He leaned forward in his chair properly and rest his chin in his hand nonchalantly, "Eh, you're probably just overthinking it. If they're really your mates it's not a burden, Jess. Just politely ask them and you won't have to deal with any family drama." he told her in a more conversational tone. Simon was always very opinionated, especially when it seemed that someone was having a problem. Also this was better than studying so he was willing to participate.

She wanted to put a brave face on for him, and agree to do what he was suggesting. It was funny, she could stand up to anyone. Except her own family. Jessie smiled at him, "I'm the cowardly one. It's easier to not say anything at all. Frankly, I don't want to renew their anger." It felt oddly comforting to confide in Simon. Most of her friends knew it was a difficult matter for her. It troubled her tremendously in her younger years, and they took care not to bring it up often. Not that she cared to talk about it occasionally. Jessie was pleased when he allowed his chair to sit on all fours again. The intense blue in his eyes clashed with the warm gold in her own, causing her to look away quickly. His gaze made her shift in her seat for a reason unbeknownst to her. She busied herself with the papers in her bag, attempting to seem at ease. She nodded when he mentioned that she was probably over thinking things. She was about to verbally agree to that statement when Simon called her 'Jess'. It sounded odd, coming from his mouth. Though that was probably due to his accent. Alternatively, her nickname sounded sickly sweet coming from him. Perhaps their hostility was put behind them once and for all. She couldn't help but to let a small smile slip, as she focused back on his words. "I'll probably ask closer to summer. But I don't want to put a target on anyone's back for housing a muggleborn," she shrugged, stating the obvious. Everyone was on edge, and she still harbored the thought that she might make things difficult for another family if she housed herself in their homes. simon sixten svendsen

Simon cocked his head to the side comically, blue eyes falling on Jessie’s with a more curious look, a good indicator that he disagreed with her confession that telling off family members was hard. He noticed the golden flakes accompanying the warm brown saucers as he made eye contact, but had to break it once he started talking, since the contact was almost awkward. He chuckled to himself, running a hand through his hair, “Huh... Telling off family is the most fun. It’ll get easier the more you practice..” He stated in a tone full of jest, the corners of his lips slowly tugging upwards before pulling back down to a more neutral expression. Simon had a hard time maintaining serious conversations. Simons chair kicked back off the ground again, more absentmindedly this time. A puff of air passed his lips, mouth opening to add to his point as his eyes locked on her again, “C'moon-You’re a Gryffindor, lions aren’t cowardly.” He drawled more playfully this time.
Jessie mentioned not wanting to risk putting her friends into danger due to harboring a Muggleborn. Simon hadn't really thought about that, though he still disagreed with her. “You aren’t wearing a yellow badge, mate, everything will be fine.” he told her, taking a breath in, before feeling a bit unsure once the words left his lips... maybe he shouldn't have been dismissing the fact so easily. Simon shrugged his shoulders lazily, feigning more nonchalance, "Laying low with friends sounds better than having to deal with family if they're only going to be jerks to you." he stated honestly, not meaning to offend her - because he was enjoying the fact that they were getting along for once.
The Lions head suddenly cranked back to look at the clock hung high on the wall. The legs of his chair screeched to the floor one last time as her let out a sigh, ”Welp. Look at the time, gotta roll...” he stated unapologetically comical, blue eyes falling to Jess, ”Nice talk. Byeeeee.” he drawled with twiddled fingers. He left his book open on the table like a dingus.

As Simon spoke encouragements to her, she found herself wanting to be brave and unapologetic when facing her family. She wanted to prove herself to him; a fact that was surprising to her. Jessie wanted to make him proud. Her chest swelled subconsciously, as she sat up a little straighter. Maybe she could say something this time, tell them to either get over it or bugger off. He had given her a bit of courage-- whether it would last until Summer break, she did not know. She'd enjoy it while it lasted though. Jessie barely had the time to respond, before movement from Simon took her attention once again. Her eyebrows shot upwards as he stood up quickly, proclaiming that he was leaving. "Alright.. I'll see you soon," she said, but he was already walking away. The newfound silence was deafening, as she began to gather her things. Her eyes caught sight of Simon's book, laying open on the table. A humored smile graced her lips, as she carefully tucked the book into her bag. She'd be sending him an owl about that soon. simon sixten svendsen
