Nixie had first learned about Animagi from her transfiguration teacher. It was such an interesting idea. People turning into animals. After deciding to become a curse breaker, she had to get into the N.E.W.T. level transfiguration class. The more she learned about Animagi, the more she wanted to do it. She could just imagine the shocked expressions that her brothers would give her if she turned into an animal right in front of them. This wasn’t the only reason, but it helped drive her to ask her professor about it during her 7th year. Her professor told her how hard it was, but with the proper supervision, she could work on becoming one.
The first step was to keep a mandrake leave in her mouth for a month. This was not easy. The first two times, it fell out while she was sleeping. The third time, she has adapted and was doing so well. She managed to eat, and participate in classes, while maintaining the leave in her mouth. It was about three weeks in, when her quidditch match against Slytherin came up. It was one quick bludger to her stomach, and out popped the leaf. Her revenge was in the form of catching the snitch and winning the game. Three time was not the charm for her. It took her most of the first term to complete this. Then she had to find the dew for the phial. Just before Christmas break, was the next clear night with a full moon. Spitting the mandrake leave into the container, she hid it away. She was so good to start the ritual of saying the words, every month at sunrise and sunset. Then the break came. She she said the spell every time, almost missing once or twice. When she went back to school, she found that the container that she was sure would be safer hidden at school, was found and ruined.
On the third time of starting the process, the second one failed thanks mostly to a pair of first years, Nixie was ready. N.E.W.T. exams were about to start. Focusing on her studies helped her during the month of the mandrake root, though it did make it hard to find the dew. She had to keep the mandrake root in her mouth through finals, which was only slightly distracting. And she had to focus hard not to have a lisp while performing spells and talking to the examiners during the presentation sections. After finals, she was able to find the dew in the right spot, untouched. Placing it in the phile, a number of days later, there was a clear night with a full moon, she once again, spit out the Mandrake leave into the phile and stashed it away in her trunk. She would make sure that it wouldn’t be disturbed until she was ready. As she headed home, after graduation, she was working on the incantation that, by this point, she could say in her sleep.
Arriving home, she was sure not to tell her family what she was trying to do. They always pestered her about magical things. They were blown away when she told them that the Loch Ness “monster” was really a kelpie. One summer's night, while the entire McKraken family was sitting down for a nice dinner, a storm came. Now this dinner was important. This was because Connor had brought a girl home to meet the family. He seemed to really like her, and she really fit in with the family. The first strike of lightning brought Nixie to her feet, knocking down her chair. She instantly bolted to her room, not saying a word. Grabbing the phial and rushing outside. She ran out into an empty field with the biggest smile on her face. This was it. This was the time. Drinking the potion, which almost made her puke, and yelled the incantation, just as lightning struck, and the sound of thunder drowned out every sound around her.
Instantly, she felt her body changing. Her point of view lowered, and she moved to all fours. It took her a minute to get used to the four legs and how to walk on them. That was when she noticed that she had a tail. After a few moments of chasing the bushy thing, she heard her mother yelling out for her. Changing back she ran back with an ear to ear smile to her family, all standing outside, worried about her. Nothing could have brought her down now. She was a Fox Animagi. The next day, she went to the ministry to register. The next big challenge. Working for Gringotts as a Curse Breaker.
