TAKING A TRIP DOWN TO Wales wasn’t exactly the first thing on Bryelle’s to-do list for the summer break, but after simply being threatened by her parents to ground her for the rest of the summer if she didn’t join them for a few days…What else could she do? Merlin. She needed to beg Renard to allow her to stay with him. She flipping hated it here. Although. They were seeing a family the Goyle hadn’t seen since she was a few months in her first year.
Of course she eventually saw the kids of the family once they enrolled into Hogwarts, but Bryelle was bad at maintaining friendships outside of her year group and above. (Lily being the only exception). And so, a few days before their departure to Wales (minus Renard, the lucky shit), Bryelle decided to learn more about the family and where…exactly everyone was. And that’s how…The Goyle found herself in Caerleon, within Merlin’s Mystical Museum of Magic. She heard Aurum — who was now a fifth year was volunteering and while Bryelle remembered what the smaller girl looked like, she was sure…Aurum didn’t remember her.
Floating through the museum, Bryelle took her time, going from area to area viewing intensely, and eventually one area caught her eye the most. She didn’t know what it was about it, but just looking at made Bryelle feel…some sort of delight.@aurum & hopefully this works!

It was shaping up to be a busy day for the twins. They’d gotten permission from their father to spend some time in London as a belated birthday celebration, but unfortunately social responsibilities had to cut that time short. Papa had made it clear that they would be hosting another pureblood family in Caerleon for dinner, and that the twins were expected to be present and on their best behavior. Typically, Aura and Silver found ways to skip such events, or vanish halfway through after a few courses. Today, however, felt like the wrong time to attempt those tactics again when there was so much summer left for their father to potentially ruin. The twins still needed to meet to do their research on who would be coming and why, but Aura was sure Silver wouldn’t want to contribute much. He believed in knowledge purely for knowledge’s sake – Aura was more interested in applying it for their benefit. So, thanks to the wonder of magical travel, the twins had spent a jam-packed day in London and then returned to Caerleon in the late afternoon. The two had of course been laden with bags (mostly books, but they’d practically raided Diagon Alley) and had meticulously unpacked it all at home. Although today wasn’t one of their volunteering days, Aura and Silver had still gone to the museum to show Papa that they were physically present and ready for dinner tonight. And of course, to enjoy the wonders of the largest magical museum in the United Kingdom. After that short and largely unpleasant appointment with their father, the twins had scattered to enjoy the museum as visitors and not volunteers. Silver had probably made his way directly to the Viking wing (no surprise there, he was obsessed with Norse history and culture) but Aura had less of an interest in the creepy mythology her brother enjoyed. Instead, Aura had made her way to the flagship permanent exhibit of the museum – anything and everything related to Merlin, King Arthur, and related magical artifacts. It was by far one of the most extensive magical exhibits she’d ever seen, and she loved idly walking around the display cases and testing her knowledge of what she’d read during her last visit. She spent a few minutes skimming the new page of Morgana’s journal (which flipped to a new entry every day) although naturally she could read very little of it. It was moments like these that she debated the wisdom of opting out of Ancient Runes to spend more time on Quidditch. Then she fought through a small crowd to escape the small corner dedicated to Excalibur in order to ogle instead at Merlin’s spellbooks. It was while she was attempting to decipher the cover of a very faded book that she first noticed Bryelle Goyle. It could be said that the two were familiar with each other, but in reality it was really their families that had made the acquaintance. Aura didn’t have much contact with any Gryffindors, and she and Silver rarely had any reason to associate with those in a higher year. But she did remember enough to be slightly surprised to see Bryelle in a museum of all places (really she’d been expecting to see her at dinner tonight). She debated with herself for a moment before cautiously making her way over to the older Gryffindor. Aura wasn’t one for small talk with no meaning, but she resigned herself to it and asked, “It’s an amazing exhibit, right?” bryelle rose goyle

WITH HER EYES FIXATED ON the piece before her, the voice that asked her a question almost went unheard, almost leaving the atmosphere filled with awkwardness. When the Goyle blinked, she breathed also, forcing a small smile onto her lips and nodding in agreement with the voice. ”Indeed…This one has me staring at it the most..”
Eyes glanced to their side to reveal who had spoken to her, and Bryelle was happy with the results. Standing at average height it was just who she was looking for. ”Aurum..! Aren’t you…A volunteer here?” It was nice to find a familiar face in an incredibly unfamiliar place. ”Wait..Are you working right now?..” Bryelle didn’t see any usual uniform but it was better to ask than assume.

There was a noticeable pause between Aura’s question and Bryelle’s answer, but Aura let it pass (there were a million reasons for that, right?). As Bryelle mentioned the spellbook she’d been examining, Aura gave a hum of acknowledgment as she leaned over to catch a better look. She’d seen it before, however, so she took more interest in catching up with Bryelle (an acquaintance? Friend? It was hard to find the right word). The other girl was friendly enough, so Aura gave a reserved smile. “Yeah, I do volunteer here. Good memory. But today I’m just here as a visitor.” She shrugged and took a quick glance around the room before refocusing on Bryelle. She hadn’t been expecting to run into the girl before dinner, and while she enjoyed talking with Bryelle – well, the stuffy formalities required by their families was another story. “Is your family here too?” bryelle rose goyle

TRUTHFULLY, BRYELLE FELT KIND OF silly, not recognising Aurum from her voice alone considering it hadn’t been too long since she last saw the Ravenclaw for one of their family meetups. Aurum revealed that she was here as a visitor instead of an employee which only cracked a small smile on Bryelle’s face. ”How is it here?…Be honest…” The thought of a ‘job’ enticed the Goyle, especially since her brother was thriving off the Galleons he earned.
Bryelle nodded at the question, looking down at the floor and back up at the art display. ”Unfortunately…They’re at yours…I managed to escape them for a while to come and see you.”

Bryelle’s question about the museum was the exact right one to ask. Aura’s face lit up – it was one of her favorite places in the world. There were times when she felt more at home at the museum than in her actual house, where the twins’ father never had time for them and their evil stepmother lurked. “The museum is brilliant,” Aura answered earnestly. “There are so many fascinating artifacts here.” Aura knew that not all students felt the way most Ravenclaws did, that learning opportunities were exciting and something to seek out, so she added, “It doesn’t feel like a chore to learn something new.” There, that sounded decent. Aura couldn’t help it – as Bryelle mentioned her family was already with hers, she made a face. It wasn’t that she had anything against the Goyles, much the same way she didn’t have a problem with her father. But… “Oh Merlin,” Aura sighed. If they were already here, then it wouldn’t be long before Bryelle and the twins were also expected to return and spend the rest of the night being frustratingly polite and restrained. Aura hated that her father expected her to put on a whole show for guests, and that some guests were the ‘right kind’ and others weren’t. “You made the right choice. Follow me, we can make it a little harder to find us.” Their families undoubtedly knew where the girls were, but there were some less-popular exhibits that were out-of-the-way and that certainly would be checked last. bryelle rose goyle

BRYELLE ONLY HOPED THAT AFTER her time in Hogwarts, she would have a job that she genuinely enjoyed. It was hard to say for most people -- her mother and father as prime examples -- considering people walked into a job that paid decently well. Knowing herself, the Goyle wondered how many jobs she would probably be fired from before settling into a role she loved. "I see.." She smiled, looking up and down at the piece she was looking at once more. "Do you look after a particular area?..."
Looking back at Aurum, Bryelle's lips only grew wider. She had the same face that Bryelle would have when watching her parents do absolutely anything. They were useless beings and if they didn't have their money under lock and key...Merlin. Bryelle couldn't think of the things she probably would have begged from Renard. But now with her seventh year coming up, the Goyle was closer to freedom now than ever. "Oh Merlin is right." She laughed quietly. "Perfect. Let's go." Bryelle turned to face the younger girl and started to follow her.

As a general rule, Aura found Gryffindors annoying. They could be so brash and thoughtless, and there were more than enough times to prove they didn’t always take the time to think things through. So, based on principle, there was always some natural tension between that and someone like Aura who liked to take the nice, logical approach to things. But she genuinely liked Bryelle, and not just because the girl showed the same aversion to stuffy family gatherings as Aura. Silver would always be her number 1 partner-in-crime, but it was nice to occasionally get into some mischief with other people. And Bryelle was fairly skilled at getting Aura into those kinds of situations. Aura pulled lightly on Bryelle’s sleeve to guide her through a particularly thick knot of people before stepping into one of the lesser-explored hallways. Not that Aura blamed anyone for that decision – who would find magical architecture interesting? She thought back to Bryelle’s earlier question about her responsibilities and shrugged. “Not really, I just mostly take care of whatever nobody else wants to do.” Aura slowed down so the girls could walk side-by-side and so she could study her more easily. “You’re in your 7th year now, yeah? Figured out what you want to do after graduation yet?” bryelle rose goyle

AS DIFFERENT AS THE TWO of them were, Bryelle knew she genuinely liked Aurum. And somewhat envied her. She was younger, still having enough time to plan out her decisions and even make bad choices all before it begins to matter. Bryelle wished she was a little younger every now and then, the thought of growing up still scaring her but she also embraced it, the want...or more so the need to escape her parents growing more and more each day.
Being pulled out of her slight trance once Aurum pulled on her arm, Bryelle followed, pushing past people before they entered a rather empty hallway. "So you're willing to do anything I'm guessing?" She asked, smiling small. "Work right after graduation...Move out as soon as I can.." Bryelle wanted to escape home like the next person.

Aura nodded approvingly at Bryelle’s observation. “Yeah, anything I can get my hands on. Have to start somewhere to build a reputation,” she responded with a shrug. Being on the cusp of starting 5th year was an incredibly annoying position to be in. At this point, she was too old to be lumped in with the younger students who were still trying to find their footing and couldn’t be trusted with their wands. But she was still too young to be considered mature or responsible enough to be left to her own devices like the 6th and 7th years. There were all these people with expectations of her (and the prefect badge that had appeared in the post didn’t help) but she didn’t exactly have the authority to be able to actually do anything. So she was a little jealous of Bryelle – almost ready to leave school and make her mark on the wizarding world. Aura nodded again as she mentioned moving out right away – a byproduct of stuffy families with rigid expectations and very little actual knowledge of their children, enough said. “What kind of work?” she asked idly as she scanned the corridors in front of them before choosing one randomly. “You planning to be a good girl and follow in your family’s footsteps at the Ministry?” Her tone was teasing, but the question was serious enough. Every pureblood had to ask themselves that at some point, it was just Bryelle’s turn now. bryelle rose goyle

AS IF BRYELLE COULDN'T ENVY the girl enough, as Aurum spoke more, the envy only grew. She was young and already had her ideas and her life somewhat planned already. Bryelle on the other hand...Well. Bryelle had something. She just didn't know what it was yet.
Noticing that Aurum's tone was teasing, the corners of Bryelle's lips rose like the girls and with a gentle nod she confirmed Aurum's assumptions. "I suppose but not like...my janitor father or security troll trainer mother. I hope to do something more...useful." She paused then, stuffing her hands into her pocket as she glanced down at her feet. "I'm hoping and really...I mean hoping to fall into the line of work with the department of mysteries or within magical law enforcement..You know?..Actually putting my logic to the test and proving to people I'm not as dumb as I come off to be.."

Aura wrinkled her nose slightly at the mention of Bryelle’s parents’ professions – both fine jobs, she was sure, but definitely not something she wanted to do with her life. It took a certain kind of person to be interested in something like training security trolls, and Aura had bigger dreams than that. She felt the same way about her own father. The museum was an amazing place, and she genuinely liked working here over the summer. But centering her whole career around history, something most people didn’t give two knuts about? Aura preferred to do something more practical, something with tangible results at the end of the day. So she brightened as Bryelle mentioned the Department of Mysteries and Magical Law Enforcement. That sort of Ministry career sounded exciting. “That sounds amazing,” Aura said wistfully as she imagined her friend as an Unspeakable. The idea of applying logic to a career made sense, but the second thing…Aura scoffed a little. “Who says you’re dumb?” Aura demanded. “And what do they know, anyway? You don’t have anything to prove to anyone.” bryelle rose goyle

BRYELLE HAD ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT her parents wanted to do with their lives before meeting one another. If they actually had dreams at one point or if they had been completely and utterly brain dumb since the beginning. It would'nt of been a surprise if the Goyle had cracked open both of her parents heads and found absolutely nothing considering the two of them were brainless as each other. Thank Merlin Renard had taught her all she had known. At Aurum's response, Bryelle's eyes lit up happily.
Most people were quick to say her choice in the Ministry path was shortsighted and dull. Renard seemed to enjoy his job...Sometimes, when he wasn't being completely moody and a diva anyway...So why couldn't Bryelle feel the same way? "It's...mainly because I hung out with Lily Potter and she's well.." Lily was a great friend, but academically, Lily wasn't the best student at all. And Bryelle never felt bad talking about it because it was something Lily also knew herself. "I know I don't but it would be nice every now and then to be awarded with some kind of praise like others...Maybe I'm thinking about it too much."

Aura hummed contemplatively as Bryelle mentioned Lily Potter. Both girls were a few years higher than Aura – although theoretically just two, she supposed, since it was well known the Potter girl had been held back from graduating. Still, the age and House difference meant she didn’t see much of them at school or hear much outside of Hogwarts’ school paper and rumor mill. But she got the idea – not super academically oriented, a bit of a mischievous streak. Not exactly Aura’s wheelhouse, since she only liked to break rules if there was some clear benefit to it. And she hadn’t found a convincing enough reason to sacrifice her potential future for laughs. “You’ve still got a year to turn things around,” Aura suggested as Bryelle talked about wanting to get some praise and attention. Now that was an impulse Aura understood. “Get your grades up, blast through the NEWTs,” she listed idly as she counted on her fingers, “then there’s no reason you’d get anything but gushing compliments and the Ministry’s interest.” It didn’t sound so hard to Aura, since that had basically been her strategy since day 1, but she’d long been desensitized to being surrounded by overperformers and Ravenclaws who were willing to push the envelope and go that extra mile to reach success. It was hard to remember that not all of Hogwarts was like that (which was to their benefit, really, since fewer serious rivals meant it was easier to stand out). Aura smirked at Bryelle. “Then you might catch up to me.” bryelle rose goyle

AT AURUMS SUGGESTION, BRYELLE FOUND herself looking down at her hands. One more year to redeem herself. She couldn't believe time had flown by fairly quickly already, especially since it felt like yesterday that she had enrolled within Hogwarts, the sorting hat being placed on her head and bringing shame to her family once it was revealed she was indeed a Gryffindor instead of a Slytherin housed child.
She laughed quietly then, nodding in agreement and understanding with Aurum. For someone younger, the Ravenclaw spoke a lot of sense. "Catch up to you?" Bryelle questioned, lips perking up into a smile while she gently nudged her younger friend. "I'm way ahead of you. What did you get in your recent exams?"
