Torrian was four, and the world was his oyster. He was no longer the youngest, but that’s fine. He didn’t really care, all he wanted to do was run around the island that they lived on. But now he was stuck in a stupid hospital. People coming in and out, his worried mother, his confused siblings. All he knew was that he was sick. But he didn’t want to be sick, he wanted to be outside. If only he could just get there. His parents weren’t in the room, taking a break, and he knew that he grandfather MacFusty would be coming soon. He was fun, but Torrian really didn’t like this game any more. He didn’t like the doctors poking at him, and coming in to talk over him. He sat in the hospital bed, crossed arms with his best pout face. He was grumpy, and he wanted everyone to know it. The nurse that had just come in had been the first trial, the real test was grandpa. He was always insistent to make Torrian laugh.
He took a deep breath in and closed his eyes. He wanted to be anywhere else but here. He took a deep breath and that’s when he heard it. “Torrian!” The voice of that nurse sounded really panicked. “Torrian, I know your hiding” She egged on. He opened his eyes, still holding his breath “Doctor, I think we have a problem.” She left the room. Did she….not see him? He released his breath, and crawled out of the scratchy, hard, uncomfortable hospital bed. This was his chance. Maybe his only chance. He quickly moved around the panicked staff, a mischievous smile on his face. As he wandered through the floor, he finally saw it. The magical box that would take him to his somewhere else.
This was it. He made a break towards freedom. Inches away when he was scooped up by the greatest spoil sport. His Grandpa MacFusty swept him up with a “Oh no you don't.” Holding the pajamaed boy in his arms “I found him! You can all stop running around!” Wrapping him in a big hug, Torrian was taken back to the hospital room ”You ruin everything” Back in that horrible bed, he wrapped his arms around himself and pouted. But he had found a new, and fun game to play. A wicked grin crossed the young boy’s face.
