overall personality:
Duane was once carefree and genuinely happy; he was a boy living an ordinary life, only to find out he wasn’t so ordinary. Living the dream of almost any muggle, Duane tried to cherish every moment. When he loses his parents, there is a shift; Duane becomes reclusive, empty. He allowed his sadness and grief to consume him, as opposed to ripping the grief from the universe and using it to fuel him. After years of this wallowing, Duane came out of his exile changed; much of his good natured attitude was gone, replaced by an internal resolve and an obsession (to a fault) with stomping out blood purism.
Duane often wonders if this vengeance would consume him much like his grief had, but these thoughts are often cast aside. It’s a visceral need that fuels him, one that he isn’t even sure he can really exist without now. He’s become capable of putting on a mask, however; though he’s not winking jokester anymore, he can be cordial and amiable, quick to throw out a one liner, more-so to not let people in on that spark of vengeance inside him.

history:
Duane is considered one of the lucky ones; though he was by no means rich, his parents made ends meet and his childhood was nearly idyllic. He grew up in a little flat, made friends with the neighborhood kids; he read comics and watched TV like any other kid. But there were… oddities. Things moved across the room if he was being grounded or punished. The school bully’s hair changed to a hideous shade of canary yellow when he had picked on Duane. When he didn’t feel like eating vegetables at dinnertime, they would often disappear entirely from his plate if he got worked up enough. When these things happened, his parents did what all muggles do; they commented on the absolute oddness of the situation, then shrugged, chalked it up to some weird cosmic coincidence, and forgot about it. It wasn’t until he turned eleven, and an owl showed up at their living room window carrying a letter did all of these oddities resurface.
Duane was ecstatic; all of these weird things that happened to him weren’t coincidences! It wasn’t some random game of chance! There was something inside of him, something awesome and amazing and special, and he could learn to control it- he could be something more than just a person, working any old nine to five job for the rest of his life. He gleefully threw himself into wizarding culture; though he wasn’t an amazing student by any means, he displayed an aptitude in wand work, especially in terms of charms and Defense against the Dark Arts.
Through it all, Duane managed to keep his wonder of magic; the excitement, like butterflies in his stomach, everytime he cast a spell. He always took his time to study the moving portraits; he carried conversations with the ghosts; he read any books that interested him in the school library. He graduated Hogwarts (what felt like too soon, for him; he loved and still loves that castle. He wasn’t a prodigy, but he certainly had a bright future in this amazing world. He took some time off to make up for lost time with family and his muggle friends (who thought he was going to an exclusive boarding school). It was one night after a visit to a local pub with a few friends, that he came upon the smoking debris of the building his parents and many other muggle families had lived in. Muggle news said it was gas leak that lead to the massive detonation; however, the Aurors said it was an attack by two blood purists, crazed muggle murderers who had evaded capture.
Sinking into his grief, Duane barely made it through that muggle nine to five job; his flat was cramped, but it was cheap and he didn’t need extra space. His windows were blacked out. Though he still often used magic, there was no rush, anymore; after all, if it weren’t for magic, Victoria and Dale Jeffries would still be alive. For a few years, Duane continued like this, a disconnected and reclusive approach to life. Work. Home. Work. Home. Work. Home. However, over time, he grew curious about the wizarding world; buying up a daily prophet subscription, Duane read the latest news with anger in his heart, anger that seemed to burn away that emptiness. He had a decision to make. Duane would not let what happened to his parents happen to anyone else; the iron fear that had gripped the wizarding world had to end, and Duane decided that he would help, with any means necessary.
site events reaction:
The events in the wizarding world are what catalyzed Duane’s decision to be a Hit Wizard. He had been affected greatly by the actions of evil wizards; to see the world he had once loved so much being seized once again by that evil was too much for Duane. He felt the need to help, to aid in the efforts of the “good” side.
