14 JUNE 2024 - BULSTRODE RESIDENCE When Athena was younger, her father wanted her to learn everything she could about the ability of occlumens, a skill both he and her mother had mastered. He had learned it from his father, a way to keep him safe while being in the Death Eater order, a method of stopping anyone from learning the truth about it all by messing with his head. After he met Callie, he had gotten her to learn the ability as well, wanting her to be protected and a way for him to trust her. When Athena was old enough, or in his mind, was old enough to learn it, he made her read about it. At least, until he was taken away to Azkaban. For the next few years, she read and read about the ability while attending Hogwarts, knowing full well that it wasn’t a skill that could be learned while attending the school. However, her mother tested her a few times during the summers of school. By the time she graduated, she was able to be able to keep her mother out entirely. There she sat, her back against the leather seat that sat in her home. Her mother was pacing before her as she took a few deep breaths. ‘You know what to do right? You need to keep me out of your head if you want to be able to say you have mastered this ability…’ The woman had breathed out as she turned to her daughter. Athena simply nodded, flexing her fingers against the leather seat, “Father wanted me to learn this, I’m going to finish this once and for all,” she spoke confidently. Not only did she want to make her father proud, but she wanted to protect her mind from anyone that could enter, someone like her mother who had mastered both abilities. The older woman nodded and slowly began to enter her mind. Athena flinched, closing her eyes as she attempted to keep the woman out. She could feel her wiggling around as if her fingers were moving across her brain, attempting to pluck something from her mind. Her mother didn’t know about her Purifier status, didn’t know that her daughter had followed down the dark path. But she grew closer to that memory, the memory that had brought her to the Purifiers and welcomed into their group by Elaine. Her mother hesitated, wanting to give her daughter any chance that she could to stop her. And slowly, she began to move once more. Athena gave a loud cry out, “GET! OUT!” she cried loudly, and felt like she had just taken her mother and thrown her across the room. She had stopped her mother from entering the memory; she had done it. The older woman was smiling when Nina opened her eyes, nodding her head as she straightened herself out. ‘Well done, your father would be proud,’ she said before she left her daughter to her own devices. Leaving Nina to pant and sweat against the plush leather seat in which she sat, sighing out in relief. It was over, she had done it, placed a wall around her mind from her mother, and possibly, others that would try to enter without permission.
