December 2024 Blair's eyes darted upwards at every set of footsteps she heard entering the common room. She met no success each time. When she wasn't looking up to check the door, she was checking her phone in her hands. It was after dinner, and she didn't know why she hadn't insisted upon going back there alone. She cursed under her breath when she saw that—yet again—there was no sign of her girlfriend. "Sh*t."
More footsteps and the faint sound of the combination being tapped against the barrels. Blair looked up, instinctively locking her phone with her finger as she did. It was Whiskey, and at least some of her concern faded at the sight of her. "Hey," she sighed, moving some of her hair away from her face. "Where were you? I thought you were coming back right after dinner. It's the night before winter break. We were gonna hang out, remember?"

December, 2024 @blair
Hogwart's dinners were sooooooo amazing! All the beautiful Christmas decorations and food and deserts! Blair had headed to the common room first, and Whiskey had promised to follower soon. First, she had to finish and send the letter to her parents. While many of their peers had chosen to go home for the holidays, Whiskey had chosen to stay at Hogwarts for the holiday so she needed the letter to reach the homestead before Christmas.
Letter sent, Whiskey then got distracted by some of her classmates, caught up in a conversation that lasted far longer than it should have.
Finally, Whiskey made her way back to the Hufflepuff common room. She'd only just barely set foot into the room when she heard that familiar voice. Immediately Whiskey's stomach sank. She'd completely forgotten that Blair had been waiting for her. So, she decided to use her number one best defensive mechanism. She put on her most charming smile. "Hey! There you are!" Please don't be mad, PLEASE DON'T BE MAD.

December 2024 "Hey! There you are!"
Whiskey hadn't answered her question at all, and that hadn't slipped Blair's mind. Merlin, Whiskey was so cute when she smiled, but that wasn't the point. She hadn't let her know that she was going to be late. Nothing had come up, at least of which she was aware.
"Where were you?" Blair repeated. She didn't want to sound too accusatory, in case something bad had actually happened. At the same time, she also didn't think that Whiskey would have responded as she had if something had happened since dinner. (Whiskey trusted her enough to tell her if something bad had happened, didn't she? Physically, she looked okay, and she didn't look like she'd been crying or anything…) "I've been sitting here forever."

Blair repeated the question and Whiskey knew her attempt at distraction had failed. Blair remained focused on the fact that Whiskey had been late to getting back to the common room. "Oh, you know. I had to get seconds of desert. And then I remembered I promised to send my parents a letter. And then Arnold was asking me ab-" Whiskey shut up. Immediately. Arnold. She shouldn't have mentioned him. Apparently he'd tried to flirt with Whiskey a lot (she'd never realized he was flirting though until people mentioned it). Obviously, mentioning a guy that kept flirting with you to your girlfriend wasn't a good idea. Oops... Retcon time now.
"Uh, anyway! I'm here now though! You wanted to hang out tonight, right? Did you decide if you were staying for the holiday or going home?" Whiskey was hoping that by changing the topic it would distract Blair from the accidental name drop. Who knew though, which Blair. Since they'd started dating Whiskey had started to notice just how hyper focused Blair could get sometimes....

December 2024 Whiskey rattled off that she had gotten seconds of dessert, then she had remembered that she needed to send her parents a letter, which—parents were parents, even if Blair didn't think of her own as being particularly exemplary ones. "And then Arnold was asking me ab—"
Immediately, Blair cut in, ignoring whatever Whiskey said next about the break. Of course she wasn't going home; she didn't want to spend any more time with her parents than was necessary. Her concern, though, was how quickly Whiskey had changed the subject on her.
"Arnold?" The only Arnold she knew of was this one guy who was always trying to flirt with Whiskey. She hadn't ever thought that Whiskey had any interest in him, and—aside from the fact that Blair thought his head looked a little bit like a Quod—Arnold had always seemed like one of those straight guys, the kind who hit on girls who weren't straight because they found it hot in whatever perverted way. "You were with pick-up line Arnold?" Blair scoffed, hoping that that wasn't the case. "What's Arnold going to do for winter break?"

Just like a honing pigeon, Blair had caught the slip up and was on the trail. Dammit, she shouldn't have mentioned him. Blair completely ignored Whiskey's attempt to change the subject, sticking on the fact that Whiskey had been distracted by their year mate, Arnold. Especially once Blair mentioned pick-up line. Whiskey's smile slowly vanished. "Not... intentionally. He just stopped me on the way back." She didn't want Blair to think she'd been actively hanging out with the guy. It'd just been an accident. Though the next question sort of brought home what he might have been up too. "Oh, uh... Yeah he said he was staying and was just wondering wondering if you were going home." After speaking, it was like a lightbulb went off in her head. Whiskey's expression changed as the epiphany struck. Oh... Yeah, Right. Pick-up line Arnold... Asking if her girlfriend would be gone.
"It was nothing, Blair. Let's go do something." Whiskey reached out, to take Blair's hand in her own, if Blair was willing.

December 2024 "Not… intentionally. He just stopped me on the way back," Whiskey explained. So it wasn't a reciprocated thing. Thank Merlin. And then Whiskey hesitated again, saying that he was staying and was wondering if she was going home. Ugh. It was a good thing that she was going to be staying, because Blair really didn't want to think about the possibilities if she were to go home to Texas.
"It was nothing, Blair. Let's go do something," Whiskey reassured her, reaching for her hand.
Blair set her phone aside, took Whiskey's hand in hers, and pulled Whiskey towards her. Although she was biting her lip at first, it turned into a smile. "What do you want to do?" she asked her teasingly.

Blair, thankfully, seemed content with the answer, and then change of subject. Blair set her phone down, and pulled Whiskey closer, a step that Whiskey happily took. It was still... odd being in a relationship. Whiskey herself was very new to it all, and very much nervous. She was always worried that she might accidentally screw things up, or that she'd misread something. But, Blair as a good girlfriend. Sure, Blair had her... moments. But still good. "Netflix and chill?" Sure, Whiskey wasn't actually suggesting "Netflix", but it was a saying she'd heard a lot growing up. It was an American thing, she thought. Meaning watch something with an intention of not finishing said show and getting distracted by the other by the other person. Now, the usual activity that would distract you would make Whiskey blush and Whiskey definitely wasn't ready for that. Plus... Hogwarts wasn't really private enough for anything like that. She'd already heard of plenty of students getting caught. So maybe they could just.... you know, cuddle and make out a bit?

December 2024 "Netflix and chill?"
There might not have been a "Netflix" in the magical world, but Blair had heard the saying used by No-Majes for years—since she had gone to a No-Maj elementary school back in Texas. Netflix was a website where people could watch almost anything that they wanted at just a click, and the chilling…? Well, that part, Blair had learned, was more of a euphemism than simply watching television or a movie.
"We can do that," Blair agreed, placing her lips softly against Whiskey's to kiss her. School didn't have to get in the way of their spending time together, and there was no Arnold around, either.

Whiskey knew that Blair could be... intense. Always had been. Even at Ilvermorny. As strange as it sounded it was that intensity that partially attracted Whiskey. Blair was just so... assertive. Knew what she wanted. Though, that trait had also caused quite a bit of tension and problems. Blair could be a bit... possessive at times. Tonight had been very mild, easily diffused. Whiskey took that as a win. And now, thankfully, Whiskey had (at least in her mind) changed the subject, distracting Blair from the boy she'd accidentally mentioned.
Blair kissed her first, and Whiskey leaned into it. She was still hesitant and a bit shy about kissing. Not because it was Blair, but because Whiskey was a bit awkward to begin with. To partially didn't know what Blair saw in her, but she was glad Blair saw it.
They kissed for a few blissful moments, before Whiskey pulled back just a touch. She took Blair's hand, leading her girlfriend to one of the couches and plopping down. "I found your Christmas present finally. Since we're both staying... I though we could open them together on Christmas?" It'd be their first Christmas as a couple, after all.

December 2024 Blair knew that she was the more domineering one in her relationship with Whiskey, and it did occasionally lead her to question if there wasn't something else going on to make her girlfriend so docile in comparison to her. She knew that Whiskey was capable of being more assertive, though the Sorting Hat seemed to have put a lot of people who were even less assertive than Whiskey in Hufflepuff House. It was all relative, though Blair was pleased that Whiskey had made up her mind about what she wanted to do so quickly.
Whiskey's lips were soft against hers, and Blair could have continued to kiss Whiskey for even longer before they pulled away from one another. They hadn't entirely gone their separate ways physically, however, because Whiskey took her by the hand and led her over to one of the couches there in the common room. There would be more room for the both of them there, and Blair sat down beside Whiskey.
"I found your Christmas present finally," Whiskey told her, explaining that—since they were both staying for the winter break—they could open them together on Christmas.
"Cool." Blair grinned immediately, unable to stop herself as she looked into Whiskey's eyes. It felt strange but good to say that it would be her first Christmas with her girlfriend. She wouldn't have to deal with any more of the "doing Christmas with divorced parents" mess. No, it would just be the two of them, together. "That sounds good," she told her. The whole idea of it sounded good, and Blair leaned towards Whiskey a little bit more. "Don't tell me what you got, though! I wanna be surprised."
