Gwen walked down the second floor corridor towards the girl's bathroom on that floor. She had always felt drawn to the bathroom ever since coming to Hogwarts. In fact, Myrtle had become one of her closest friends. She grinned and began to skip to the thought of Myrtle. Gwen was polite with most of the castle's ghosts and pictures. She valued many of the things and people that others would have overlooked. She felt a certain magnetism between the loners and herself that she couldn't quite explain. There was a bang and a clatter from behind her. Gwen spun around suddenly and beamed. "Peeves!" She called loudly. She stepped forwards and a water balloon struck her square in the face. Gwen took a big breath, from the initial surprise of the cold water. . . or whatever it was. Then she began to laugh excitedly. The poltergeist zipped past her without so much as a word. Gwen had yet to impress herself upon Peeves. Though that was something that she respected in him. Rather than a source of anger or sadness. A moment later, a wet student came running from the way Peeves had went. Gwen chuckled again as she passed him.
The door to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom lay ahead. Gwen approached it gingerly, she loved sneaking up on Myrtle. The poor ghost was quite a bore unless riled up early on. Gwen pushed upon the door to the bathroom slowly, careful to stop at the point where it most often started squeeking. She put her head into the bathroom first then slid the rest of her body through the open door. She held the door open for a minute and tried to listen for Myrtle's familiar voice. She couldn't hear Myrtle but picked up a faint whisper that she'd initially pegged as the wind. Gwen closed the door as silently as she could. She looked at the stalls and noticed a hand bag on the floor in one of the stalls. Gwen still could not tell where the whispering was coming from however.
Gwen began to tiptoe towards the bathroom stall with the bag in it, she stopped at another bang from outside the bathroom, probably just Peeves again. Gwen was tempted to race back into the corridor and try to hail the poltergeist once more. She had a feeling that such an act would be fruitless however. Which she found strange because she had never felt Peeves would be unnapproachable before. "It isn't Peeves." She spoke aloud, without even realizing. Gwen shrugged and kept pushed open the stall with the bag in it. She peered inside and found the stall was empty of any life, past or present. She was disappointed. Where was Myrtle, she thought to herself. It was only then that she noticed the whispering had ceased and the area was deathly quiet. Gwen turned eighty degrees to peer at the door to the corridor once more. She stared at it for half a moment then grinned. She let the door close to the stall with the purse in it and moved to an empty stall to relieve herself.
The silence persisted even as Gwen flushed the toilet. She was quite irritated that Myrtle was absent. Gwen pushed open the door to the stall and ran slowly to the door of the corridor. She heard someone else moving on the other side of the door though she never would have thought they'd be entering Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. Gwen moved forward and pushed on the door at the same time someone else pulled it open. Gwen fell forward and ran headlong into @crystal2.
