APPEARANCE 6'4" Rhys appears very much like his playby, he will tend to keep his hair shorter sometimes or a bit longer where you can see his waves and curls and pictures of himself younger will show much longer and wavy/curlier hair and less facial hair. He wears glasses at times for reading. Rhys also carries many random scars across his body, mainly his torso from existing as a werewolf along with a larger scar near his shoulder where he was bitten as a young child. He also has a large scar spanning his chest from an almost fatal Cursebreaking injury during Summer 2023. Rhys is incredibly tall, clearly from his father's side. | pronunciation reese nickname N/A age & birthday 28 25 aug 2000 gender & pronouns male he/him blood status half-blood werewolf sexuality straight face claim aaron taylor-johnson | ||||||||||
PERSONALITY Driven to succeed, cunning, determined, resourceful. From a young age Rhys had to adapt to a world that did not accept him, did not want him. This injustice against an innocent left an impression him, but did not get in the way of his goals. From a young age Rhys learned to adapt, he had to especially with his upbringing and his name. Rhys is definitely more on the introverted side of things but when his temper gets the best of him (as it does often) he isn't afraid to speak his mind. All outwards appearance show a man of few words. Some might think he is calm but those blue eyes of his show something brewing underneath the surface. Something that is angry and unyielding. It's a side of him that only appears when provoked or the world gets a little too overwhelming. His instinct is to run and find somewhere he feels safe, regardless of what he's leaving behind. Isolation guarantees safety. When he's not being provoked, Rhys prefers to keep to himself. Reading rather than socializing outside of his small circle of trusted friends. That small circle that knows that the Rhys others see is not the full picture. In fact, Rhys is rather shy--though over the years he has slowly come out of his shell. And if you are someone very close to him you'll see that he's actually very kind. It's the little things. Kneeling down to talk to the house elves in the kitchens, for example. But he keeps that side of him for that inner circle. The rest can deal with the brooding and temperamental young man. Selfishly choosing who he will bother with. Rhys had been faced with an important decisions prior to entering Hogwarts at age 11, did he use his mother's name "Winchester" or continue to use his father's name knowing the two very different paths it would mean for him. He chose the latter, he wasn't going to let this man, this beast define who he was going to become in this world. The Sorting Hat had actually sat on his young head for a moment, where would he place his boy? This quiet, observant, bookish yet driven and unhesitating in his goals. Rhys didn't mind either way even if the reputation of Slytherin house was well known and certainly didn't help his case with his public image issues. Overall, however, Rhys did not want to fit into that prototype expected of his name and instead he just wanted to get through school and learn as much as he could. Unfortunately, his upbringing hardly affording him tons of pre-existing knowledge as many of his house-mates had so he used his determination to study, read and absorb all he could. Rhys considers himself an intellectual, he never intended to get into trouble or receive detention. At least not at some rate to earn him a reputation, but while he didn't break the rules on purpose he chose to ambiguously follow those he perhaps did not agree with. However, as a werewolf he certainly did his best to follow those very specific rules give to him by the Hogwarts staff for his own and other student's safety. A professor had sat him down and told him the story of Professor Lupin, the previous DADA professor and how badly the families had reacted to the knowledge of his lycanthropy. Your average academic, if one does exist. Rhys was not made a prefect or Head Boy, the discrimination against his name was far too great no later than two decades after the last war. While it angered and frustrated him to be on the end of this senseless injustice he took it in stride. Any outburst from himself would only prove their point, so he kept calm and kept his cool and punched mirrors, walls and doors when nobody was looking. However his years at school were spent being tormented by bullies older than himself, who pushed his buttons that unlocked that temper of his. Hogwarts had been a dream of a place in terms of finding friends and even love but he often wondered if it was worth going back and face those older kids. When he was older, after his final years at Hogwarts he discovered he had half-siblings. While this discovery was certainly unexpected it was not unwelcome. Family. Rhys liked the idea, it was something he'd never had and the idea warmed his heart. As the eldest he felt he had to help them or at least reach out, protect them if needed. And now as a father that feeling has grown. The true fear in his life until his daughter was born was that he'd end up alone after gaining so much. But now he is terrified of somehow failing as a father. Maybe it's helped him open his heart a little more, though previous experiences make it so difficult to do so. With his goal of infecting as many young witches and wizards to create a lycanthrope population it only made sense if he not only bit but bred them too. Rose Price had been a young Witch and recent graduate of Hogwarts. Although she existed at the school during the time of the Golden Trio and even those Order of the Phoenix students who returned to Hogwarts to finish and education and NEWTS she was a bystander, a spectating Hufflepuff who was just happy for peace, but peace she would not get. The young witch was home from Hogwarts and living on her own as her parents had been victims of the war. She was out and about her small village and not quite home as the sun was setting over the horizon. Fenrir, licking his wounds from his side losing the war was looking for a fresh victim, but not quite to bite but to have. Fenrir attacked Rose, but left her alive. Though I'm not sure how alive one can be so broken and beaten, and she found out just after the new year that she was pregnant. A decisions was made, an important one. The terrified young woman would keep her baby, out of some kind of motherly love but also out of great fear if Fenrir decided to come back to claim his spawn. The thing with small villages, however, is people knew. People looked at her, they whispered when she walked by if their eyes locked there would be nothing but pity in them and shame back in Rose's. The wounds from the war were still too fresh, not there was hardly any redeeming qualities to the Greyback name. Rhys was born without incident in August of that year, he was a normal baby by all accounts and the only feature that sent chills down his mother's spine were his eyes, blue eyes that he most certainly inherited from his namesake. The village was concerned at first, but once it became clear that he was not a werewolf as his father was people settled down. Now, that didn't mean they accepted this child and were glad that he did not bear the name that brought much fear. That did change, however. The year when Rhys was almost 5, he and his mother were walking back to their small cottage as the sun was setting and it was getting dark. Rose had an innate fear of being out too late, considering what she had gone through and was hurrying the distracted little boy along when she paused. She felt the hairs standup on her arms and the chill up her spine, she turned and there were those eyes. Those blue eyes and that decrepit snarl and she froze for a split second. But that split second was enough for Fenrir to attack her again, and again he had her but this time she did not survive. Rhys stood there and watched as his mother was attacked by this inhuman thing, he was so young and he didn't understand what was happening but then full terror took over and he ran. The only place he could think to run was the neighbors, a middle aged man and wife who's kids were all out of the house and they heard this screaming little boy approach them and as they went toward the crime scene they saw his mother's remains but Fenrir was nowhere to be found. The couple took Rhys in until they could find other arrangements, and the boy was traumatized. Nightmares plagued him, as they still do at times. One week later, Fenrir returned with his true purpose in mind. The moon was full and high and he approached the small cottage, transforming right in their front yard. Well, you know the rest. Before he knew he he awoke at St. Mungo's a few weeks later, and was force fed a wolfsbane potion. Once he had physically healed he was sent to a magical orphanage in Caerleon. The staff at the orphanage knew of his condition and the wolfsbane potion kept him from harming himself or others, save the rare few times he fully transformed and was let loose in a nearby forest. Growing up there was difficult, even without families the other magical children still had their views of werewolves and Rhys grew up knowing when people were staring and knowing when people were talking about him. But while he was angry as a young boy but without a target. Simply all those emotions with nowhere to go. As a boy Rhys suffered from nightmares, though it wasn't clear what he was seeing. Bits and pieces of scenes and events but nothing he could stick together to make something cohesive. Instead he was left with the feelings instead, waking up sweating and with a heavy sense of dread. Unfortunately, at least one staff member at the orphanage was less than sympathetic of the young werewolf. She surmised that perhaps Rhys was trying to remember something. In hindsight, Rhys wondered if that woman had a bone to pick with Fenrir or maybe she was related to the old couple that took him in the night his mother died. Regardless--Rhys was told to focus on the dreams and the images he could remember and the short paragraphs he'd written down in his messy childhood handwriting. A bit of a memory was extracted, but it was enough. Rhys was pushed to the pensieve and for the first time he saw Fenrir Greyback, the monster. After that experience, Rhys had his first full nightmare--but that repressed memory was unlocked now and since then he mainly relives the night he watched his mother die and the night he was bitten and watched that poor couple be collateral damage. He'd probably been around 7 years old when this happened, and it wasn't not long after that he was "accidentally" told by the same employee that his father was Fenrir Greyback. It was a lot for an seven-year-old to wrap their mind around. "My father killed my mother? And three people were dead because of me?" All the while he thought he was just Rhys Winchester, but that was his mother's name. And he kept it until he turned 10 and after crawling back to his small bed after unsuccessfully fighting some of the older boys (he was still rather small) he decided that maybe "Greyback" could bring his tormenters fear as it seemed to bring most people fear. And after speaking to a sympathetic ear, they suggested that he could take ownership of the name instead. So that's what he decided. When his Hogwarts letter arrived it was addressed to "Rhys Alexander Greyback". In a sense, it was the inevitability of society knowing who he was and who his father was. Just get it out of the way and deal with it now. He was not the monster his father was. Rhys' heart was pounding in his chest standing in the Great Hall, he stood next to pretty girl he couldn't help but keep glancing at. She smiled at him and then continued chatting with her friends "GREEN!" , "RAVENCLAW!" Applause and cheering from the table with the blue banners. "GREYBACK!" There seemed to be a pause from everybody in the room, staff included. He went up to the stool and the sorting hat sat on his head for a moment, pondering the fine line this young boy walked. "SLYTHERIN!" There was some light applause from the Slytherin table as he found the farthest point in the back to sit among curious glances from all tables. His peers viewed him with a curiosity, those children of the war either hated him for his name, his blood status or b/c his namesake hurt one of their family members. Werewolves were still uncommon at Hogwarts, so Rhys sat a few seats down from the next student until the next name was sorted into Slytherin and took a seat next to him. And he felt quite miserable until someone set next to him and introduced themselves. Blinking through a blank stare, Rhys realized this person wanted to be his friend. Rhys left his first year with new friends and a familiarity of the library that would have matched the Librarian. Books were a comfort and learning, and it was a safe place to hide from the bullies who where years older than him and twice his height. He also spent an inordinate amount of time in the Astronomy Tower when he couldn't sleep or the kitchens over Christmas. But he'd also convinced himself that those kids that befriended him would probably not want to see him again for second year, or ever. Quidditch was also something that caught his attention and his his heart well in his chest, but alas his monthly sickness did not afford him the schedule to play on the team if he chose to the following year but he figured he might have been blocked from trying out as well. No matter, he wouldn't be a quidditch star but he could still succeed. In summary his time at Hogwarts grew better with time, after the initial shock of his name the other students and staff began to remember that despite the name he was still just a young boy. He made friends, in his own house and other houses, even found a relationship. His introverted self seemed to come out more when around those he comfortable around. Rhys did very well in his classes, he enjoyed learning about different subjects and even the odd class such as Ancient Runes and Arithmancy that other students hardly took unless they knew they needed the OWL or NEWT. Rhys' final year had been vastly different from the last. All those that bullied him had graduated, he'd had a growth-spurt prior to his sixth year. But he wasn't sure what the future held for him or where he'd fit in. It had taken this long for Hogwarts to feel like a safe place and now he was due to leave. His good grades had given him the OWLS he needed to finish the NEWTS he needed. Rhys had wanted to change Greyback image, if only to redeem himself, maybe feel confident in something. So, what about an Auror or a Hit Wizard or some cool Ministry Job? Well, i'm not sure about you but i'm sure they could count on one hand how many werewolves worked in the Ministry of Magic. Dreams aside, Rhys had to settle for his very wounded pride and chose to work as a Cursebreaker for Gringotts. It had hurt and if not for the aptly timed Veratiserum Potions lesson he might have kept that information to himself until graduation day. His knowledge and eagerness to learn would work well and it reminded him of the place that had been his home away from home as a child in Caerleon, the museum. He wouldn't forget the snub nor the treatment of those in similar boats as him, it was always in his mind as he went through life planning his next move, his next step up. Toward the end of 2018 while Rhys was home from training, Nell appeared on his doorstep one day with urgent news. Rhys naturally thought the worst, but it was merely that another Greyback was at Hogwarts. The words didn't immediately click and Nell explained her younger brother had told her. With some apprehension, Rhys reached out and the response was positive. Finally, Rhys met his sibling early the following year. Rhys thought he'd gotten over that loneliness, he had best friends and a girlfriend. But meeting them...it felt like a kick in the chest but in a good way. And then the following year another Greyback was sorted at Hogwarts. The summer before meeting his brother Elias, Rhys was working as usual. He had actually been working far too much, throwing himself into work so he didn't get stuck in his head so much. Unfortunately all that caught up to him. By that point, five years into his career he had not encountered many things that he couldn't take care of. He and a girl named Saffron Grimstone, who had attended Hogwarts in the same year but they hadn't befriended one another until training, had been two peas in a pod since training. Somehow his brooding and her boundless energy was well matched. It was all platonic, of course, Rhys had his eye elsewhere but he trusted Saffron to have his back. Time after time they entered these places together and with other groups as well, though perhaps they flew a little too close to the sun this time. They accompanied a group of cursebreakers, senior cursebreakers worked with before. They'd learned much from them including curses--there was almost always a counter-curse. Or they would learn about it once some tablet or text was translated. But this one...well it almost took the entire team out. Rhys remembered how scared he'd felt, the look in Saffron's eyes and then they were fine. Or so he thought, but slowly spots clouded his vision and everything went black. One needed to take special caution when dealing with the gods of blood in any culture. He awoke in St. Mungo's being force fed potions so he didn't bleed out and then the counter-curse was discovered quickly by other cursebreakers including one that was the least injured of all of them. Rhys survived as well as two out of the other three. But Saffron had not. After, one cursebreaker decided to retire and the other took a desk job. And Rhys took a break. The experience had actually scared him, although it all didn't hit him completely until the funeral. And he wasn't even upset the bank was forcing him to take months off to heal. The scar across his chest almost connected with his werewolf bite. That was as healed as that would be but it didn't stop his chest aching from grief. Rhys had only heard stories of the previous Wizarding Wars and never thought he'd live in a world with such instability himself. By the time the events at Hogwarts and King's Cross occurred he had already graduated, but he was able to visit Hogwarts once more during the Tri-Wizard Tournament, when it turned out another sibling was competing in the Tournament. He thought he had met all of them or would have figured they would have been in the UK and attending Hogwarts, so it was a fair surprise to meet a brother from Durmstrang. There had been a sense of pride in his brother, that he was allowed this opportunity and positive attention and he did his best to push down the jealousy that also came with that. Especially after the tournament was over and he found out that his brother had been killed....murdered. This enraged Rhys, this senseless act of violence took his brother away and now over a year later there had been no justice, just nothing. Rhys worked himself to a breaking point after Elias' death but just months after he accidentally found another sibling who also worked for Gringotts. And at the beginning of the following year an old friend convinced him to try a new potion that was meant to help werewolves. And before Hag's Fever locked down his location in the Isles, he began as the first test subject for Aware Wolf. But there was still something on the horizon and Rhys didn't know what it was but he could feel it, and the attack on Hogsmeade and Azkaban breakout did nothing to settle those nerves. But if he was bothered he didn't show it, he observed, his demeanor always cool and collected. The events of the last few years, the death of Hermione Granger, the disappearance of Harry Potter, the attacks by this so called Purist group left Rhys uneasy. His siblings had been at the World Cup when so many had died and he was grateful they had gotten out. In fact he was angered that he couldn't have been there because it was a full moon that night. After this he was easily recruited into Heliopath by an old schoolmate, Claire Slater. Despite their different yet stubborn personalities, they were very close friends (plus Claire would have never passed Arithmancy without Rhys' help). And after the discovery of a mysterious island, Heliopath ceased to exist as Harry Potter declared the Order of the Phoenix would reemerge. Rhys worked diligently to help discover the secrets of this island and its mysterious magic, creatures and ruins. He was also a target of that magic, though he came back physically unscathed. But he also had much on his mind in the beginning of 2026. You see, Rhys had gotten close to the sister of his late best friend. But only in the sense that they tried to numb their shared grief with whiskey...and other things. The whole thing was convenient while benefitting them both. Rhys knew it probably should have stopped as soon as it had started. But it didn't and now they were expecting. Rhys was accustomed to bumps and bruises from his work. but they were easy to brush off and keep going. However, in June 2026 he was involved in a more serious incident. While physically he'd mainly gotten a concussion and injured shoulder--fixable with magical medicine, they couldn't fix the lost time. There was a gap in Rhys' memory. He didn't remember getting injured and remembered being in the temple on second and then waking up at St. Mungo's the next. No matter how he tried to force it, it was gone. With an old photograph of his mother, Rhys triggered a sort of memory recall. Not quite a pensieve memory, he could feel the memory. Like existing in an echo of the past for a few minutes. The experience left him shaken and also drained in every way possible. But he experimented more with this ability, although he doesn't talk about it. Rhys' daughter was born July 31, 2026 and named Amelia Rose. The middle name had come to mind as the Grimstones liked to pick names of plants or flowers. Rhys and Sage are figuring out how to coparent as this new experience highlights the difference in their respective upbringings. Rhys, for what it's worth, is determined that his daughter never experience what he did. Plus she has many aunts and uncles official and unofficial to help along the way. That means that Sage firmly has a place in Rhys' life and among his close social circle. The birth of his daughter changed a lot of things for Rhys, he's determined to be a good father. But, he struggles as the demons he carries constantly try and pull him back. The more people he lost in his life the more he hesitated before moving forward, the last thing he wanted to do was leave his daughter fatherless but the only way he got through the day was with whiskey. There was too much to face when he wasn't numb, what was a man to do when he grew up with nothing to lose and now he had everything. OOC
