October 25, 2025 From around Rhys's side came Maria, who offered her an eerie sort of smile. "What your dear brother is soooooo afraid to tell you," she began, "is that he just found out he's not the only person I've been sleeping with." If Max hadn't heard the tone of the conversation that had been happening prior to her vague realization that something was going on that involved both her eldest half-brother and her late half-brother's maternal cousin, she would have thought that Maria was just saying something to see what her reaction might be. It wouldn't have been unlike Maria to try to goad her into something, and maybe Max would have fallen for it if she were still fifteen. In the present, though, she was technically an adult—a student, yes, but of age—and knew that things were likely far messier than they initially appeared. The most unbelievable part of it was that she was inclined to believe what Maria was saying. She didn't care to know the context of with whom Maria was sleeping other than Rhys, and the mental picture of Rhys with anyone in that way was unsettling and something that she would have preferred not to have been planted in her brain. Especially as someone who had known that she was asexual for longer than she had known Maria, it was uncomfortable. It was too late to go back on that, though, because Maria had said it. She and Rhys weren't together, in the sense of physical proximity to one another. No, they were together in that sense. Max knew that her expression must have looked as though she had just tasted an Acid Pop. She looked quickly between Maria, who looked to have done quite well for herself, and Rhys. She doubted that he wanted to have his personal life aired out in public like that, and she felt a little bad about being the one to add salt to that wound, but he was an adult. He had done it to himself—and had apparently done Maria, which was still something that she had trouble imagining. Obviously, they weren't related, but they had Elias as a relative in common. That felt off-limits, even if it wasn't as scandalous as it could have been. Even removing the familial ties, it was Maria. She looked good; Max herself couldn't deny that, but she was Maria. Hadn't Jamie or someone—his own common sense, for that matter—established that maybe that was a terrible idea? Max lowered her voice. "You've been shagging her? Seriously? Have you gone mad? Has that Aware Wolf potion gone to your brain?"rhys alexander greyback @maria

half my bones in the city streets the other in my sheets i don't think they'll ever get the chance to meet
October 25, 2025
Rhys didn’t notice Maria moving behind him, but he heard her voice from off to the side though her tone wasn’t angry anymore. No. It was something else and before he could even turn to look at her she spoke, and Rhys could only brace himself for her words. When she finished speaking, he closed his eyes and let out a breath of air through his nose. Opening them again he tried to avoid eye contact with his youngest sister, but Max hasn’t responded right away. Maybe he could convince her that Maria was lying, they had a bad history after all they could chalk it up to Maria trying to instigate issues with the siblings but he was sure that the slight look of defeat on his face might have ruined that plan before it had even started already. Max finally spoke, her tone low since he was sure that a good handful of people might have been watching them.
A possible duel might have been more interesting than carving pumpkins though Rhys wished he could have been literally anywhere else but here at that moment. Rhys couldn’t offer up a response as he went to speak but had nothing to say and he just shook his head. He was irritated and annoyed and he wasn’t sure who was going to physically hurt him more at that moment—the half-veela behind him or his sister in front of him. ”I—“ Rhys may have not been a man of very many words, but he was rarely ever speechless. ”I mean—“ Did he deny it? Nothing in his life prepared him for such a situation. The only thought he could think was shit. ”I’m sorry Max.” Well that was a start of something and while it was an admission of his guilt almost automatically. ”It just happened.” He continued speaking, taking a few steps closer to her and away from Maria. ”But like I said, its nothing.”

Maria knew, deep down, that it had been cruel to tell Max. To want to throw that in Max's face and also Rhys'. But no one had ever called Maria kind. No, the world was cruel and likewise so was Maria, when needed. It seemed neither Greyback knew how to respond for several moments. Though, Max recovers the fastest. Maria almost felt a sick wave of pleasure at Max' disgust. She folded her arms across her chest with just the slightest smug look.
She looked even more smug as Rhys struggled to respond, though the "it's nothing" still felt like a stab to the heart. No, she wasn't going to just let it end that quickly. She would hammer it in, beating them both while they were trying to recover and understand what Maria had initially said. "He's right. It did just happen. A few dozen times." The exact number, of course, was unknown... But Maria was definitely sure her number was being conservative. "Come now, princess. Your brother's a big boy. Don't be so judgmental. He can make his own decisions."

October 25, 2025 If anyone had told her earlier that day that she would end up listening to her half-brother apologize to her for having slept with someone when she went to Zombie Island to help small children carve faces into pumpkins, Max wouldn't have believed it. She wasn't sure what Rhys was doing apologizing to her, either, because a part of her felt that he had made that bed and needed to lie in it. She, who had never had feelings for anyone in that same regard, had no difficulty understanding that what Rhys had done was really stupid for no shortage of reasons. He had slept with Maria, was now trying to backtrack his way out of it by saying that it was nothing when he had obviously still slept with her regardless of his feelings towards that, and then Maria went and mentioned that this was no one-off encounter. It hadn't been two times. It was frequent. And that was even more disturbing. Max couldn't believe that she was starting to feel sort of bad for Maria, out of all the people in the world for whom she could have felt bad. Still, Maria must have known… Rhys hadn't been in school when she had been visiting Hogwarts during the Triwizard Tournament year, but she couldn't have been oblivious to his existence, either. There was the possibility that maybe he hadn't given her his last name, but Max couldn't imagine hooking up with someone dozens of times and not knowing a thing about them. It was all just too weird for her, and she didn't want to get caught in the middle of the bickering. "I just… Why were either of you…?" Max knew that Maria was highly attractive, but Merlin… They couldn't have enjoyed it, but this wasn't looking like the work of a love potion, either. rhys alexander greyback @maria

As if the situation couldn’t have gotten any worse Maria spoke up again, whenever he tried to diffuse the situation he seemed to create the opposite effect and again he closed his eyes and almost winced when she clarified his statement. It was as if Maria was only helping him dig the hole, he’d created himself deeper as he tired desperately to climb out of it to not only save face but save his relationship with his sister. But he could see by Max’s reaction, the damage was done, and the words had been said not only for Max to hear but whomever was near this scene. There wasn’t blood, yet but there was carnage. Max’s looked confused and concerned and he could only shake his head in defeat, and he was almost afraid to speak further unless he wanted Maria to start sharing details.
He felt angry but also felt some contempt toward Maria and a bit of guilt toward Max. Maria had certain spoken on purpose and even he could see that, and he felt angry about it. She was now interfering with his family and it angered him, the only point that angered him further was how he was complicit in it as well. Rhys moved so that he was standing more in the middle of the two women but when he looked to one side there was his sister, confused and a little horrified he suspected and to his other side Maria basting in her small but cruel victory. Rhys crossed his arms again and looked at Maria, pausing while he purposefully glared for a moment. ”I think you should go.” Rhys spoke, it was said as a suggestion but spoken as a demand. A mess had been made tonight and he was going to try and salvage what he could.

Max's growing confusion wasn't lost to Maria. Of course Maria was well aware of how.... unconventional their relationship had been. The first time had been purely by accident. Two broken souls that had drank too much and didn't care about the consequences. They hadn't known who the other was. But after that... Honestly they had no excuse. Maria knew most people wouldn't understand why they kept sleeping with each other. Knew that while they weren't related, the idea of sharing a relative was enough to turn off most people. Borderline taboo. But that was exactly why she'd said it. Because it would cause Rhys a world of pain with his family. He'd hurt her family, so she'd hurt his. It was only fair.
AS Rhys glared at her, saying she should leave... no, demanded it, she glared back, her eyes narrowed into slits. She felt like arguing. Refusing. Because leaving meant that she couldn't make him hurt anymore. But, the damage was already done. He'd never talk himself out of this one. As much as she'd loved to just stay and watch him squirm, she'd done what she set out to do. Hurt him. Though he'd hurt her too. "Great idea," she hissed, her anger seeping back out now that she wasn't throwing him under the figurative bus to his sister.
With a crack she disapperated, still glaring at Rhys in that moment before disappearing.
(Maria ooooout. Have fun doing damage control Rhys!!!)
