stretch across the sky

Curses were trauma’s in their own right, each having a different effect and maybe they left a physical scar and maybe it didn’t but the mental one would always be there. Rhys had his own brush with a few along with what he carried from his past but he’d hoped in vain to never see a friend go through it as well. Jasper seemed to accept his life and what had happened and maybe it was like the quest to look for some cure to being a werewolf, it was endless and would only end in disappointment. All he had heard within the Curse Breaker circles was that something had happened but not necessarily what. That wasn’t uncommon, though good friends would more or less always hear from one another at some point.
Rhys shook his head, there was no need to apologize. ”No. I’m the one that asked.” He tried to be reassuring, these topics were never the easiest to talk about. ”Well I can always drop in and visit more, you can drag Ren along too.” Rhys smiled. He’d woken up one day, probably after a Christmas with his coworkers and realized that he’d known them for as long as he’d known anyone in his life. And it had been a good feeling, that belonging he was always searching for along with people who saw him for who he was and not who they assumed he was or would be. Even if a curse or tomb wall took him out, he’d still be happy with his memories and his experiences.

Many people underestimated the lasting damage that a curse could do to a person. Physical scars were easier to understand, because you could see them, and relate to the pain. For instance, Renfri didn't have use of an arm, everyone could sympathies and imagine the struggles that initialed. But, in Jasper's opinion, the worse ones were the type that lingered, but left no scars. Jasper's curse lingered, with no outward signs that it had happened. The idea had crossed his mind to research it, but a part of him feared to do so, not sure if he would ever be truly gone with it. Honestly, he was sure that project would end in disappointment. Currently, working on lesson plans for seven years was distraction enough, but what happened when he got a grasp on that? What then? Would the shadows jump out more? Would his dreams get worse? It was something that he didn't want to think about.
He gave a weak smile Rhys justified the down mood, saying that it was he who had asked. "That's a great idea." He gave a half smile to the man. Company was great, especially late at night. He had found that nights were worse. Sleep didn't come easy, so drinking, and prowling the halls, along with spending time with friends helped. "I'm always up for a late night." He shrugged. "Trying out staying up later, then maybe I can sleep better." It kind of made since, the more exhausted he was, and maybe the more alcohol he had, the better he would sleep. It was in the experimental stages, and only sometimes seemed to work.

Rhys nodded. Since he was home for the most part and would be for the rest of the year, he figured it would be nice to see his old friends and keep one another company just as they had done when they worked alongside one another. "Well, you know me. Always up late." During their time working together, he'd always stayed up late reading or researching. However, it had been to work himself to exhaustion to avoid whatever nightmares he knew he was having or to avoid thinking about other things in his life. At first, it had been something that people had commented on, but then they'd all adjusted to their coworkers' different styles.
When traumatic things happened to a person, it followed him, whether a physical scar or ailment as Renfri might have or whatever invisible affliction Jasper had at this point. Rhys didn't like to see his friends suffer, but he knew there wasn't much he could do personally about it. Plus, his own trauma had shaped who he was as a person now. He couldn't imagine having gone through what he did now that he was older versus when he had been a child. "Well, I suppose they'll be wondering at the Castle where you went off to." Rhys noted, it was rather late now, but he would make sure to take some time to pop back in another weekend. "Bring Renfri next time. It's been months since i've had a chance to properly annoy her." Rhys said with a smirk on his face. They'd only been pestering one another since they were eleven. Why stop now?

Rhys was a good friend, and Jasper did know that he was always up late. Now it seemed, so was he. "Thanks Rhys." was all he had to say. This was his trauma, and no it was hard enough to explain. He just hoped that things would end up for the best "Well, I suppose they'll be wondering at the Castle where you went off to." Jasper wasn't sure how long he had been there, so the man had a point. "Yea, we definitely need to get all three together." He chuckled and finished his drink. "But your right, I should be heading back up. Thanks for the company Rhys."
After bidding his friend farewell, he left the pub and made his way back up to the castle.
