Vasilia hated that tone he used. That.. tired, weary tone. Like he knew already how she felt and was used to it. Like it wasn't anything new. He just kept internalizing everything, and it drove her insane. Because she just wished she could drag out what he was feeling, and what he was hiding. Just drag out what was hurting him so much so that she could help. So that he wouldn't be so alone. But it was his own doing. He just kept pushing her away, no matter how hard she tried.
Vas pursed her lips tightly, as it to stop them from trembling from the bubbling emotions. Parts of what he said she knew, just from watching him over the years. But it felt like a terrible excuse. That he couldn't be there for them because he'd been going through something himself (which, again, he'd never been open about). But that's all it felt like to her. An excuse. So while she heard him, heard every word.... It felt hollow to her.
She didn't realize it, but she'd started to cry at some point while he was speaking. Silent tears staining her cheeks. It was unfair. That he wouldn't tell her. That after seven years he still couldn't talk to her. Didn't trust her enough to tell her what was going on. He wanted more time. How much more? Ten years? Twenty?
"Don't talk to me about time, Ilija. I'm the one that's been watching dad dying for months." Painfully. Slowly. Death was a cruel thing, but watching him suffer like this, knowing you couldn't do anything about it? Technically his health had been very poor for years, but it had only deteriorated to the terminal level in March. "You might be able to hide and runaway from your pain but I can't. You think it's hard trying to pull yourself together for a few days every year? Try carrying the weight of our family on your shoulders. Our parents, the business, Felix. You can runaway when you like, and we'll manage. If I break, our parents lose everything." She'd never told Felix how serious things were. With their mother focusing on their father. Perhaps he'd never thought about it. About how Vas had been running the business in place of their parents for so long. Never realized that she'd taken on the burden of everything. That every single day she'd lived in fear or what would happen if she failed. Her collapsing probably helped him understand bits of it though... She stood up, eyes stinging from the tears that wouldn't stop. "You may have given up everything to come back now, but I gave up everything when I was fourteen-years-old."
She couldn't stop crying now that she'd started. That she'd finally admitted, at least a little, of how much pressure she was under. She looked away, blinking rapidly to try and stop more tears (though it wasn't sucessful), and reached up to wipe away some of the tears from her cheeks. "The.. um... the timers on the ice cream is already set. When it goes off you can stop them..." Then, unable to face her brother anymore, she fled. Heading back up to the apartment above the shop.
(Vas ooout. You can post one more if you want, or we can call this fin. :3)
