Felix was very close to losing his patience. "Again," Bianca spat impatiently. "Use your mind to push me out, not your wand. Ready? Legilimens," said the woman who had thrown him so fully for a loop. Again and again, she broke into his memories, many of which revolved around the time they had spent getting to know one another biblically. The caramel of her skin, the curve of her secretive smile, the mysterious light of her eyes. Even months later, they haunted him. Even though he and Bianca had not quite mastered a friendship, Felix was desperate to have her in his life. Despite the wife who had insisted he learn occlumency, Felix still often found his mind drifting towards the first woman who had stolen his heart.
"You're letting me get in too deep, Felix," Bianca chided as she withdrew. Felix groaned, his mind feeling foggy and fuzzy as Bianca's critical gaze pierced him. He took two deep breaths, forcing himself to focus. He needed to learn this skill - and Bianca had been good enough to teach him. How awful would it be for him to throw this back in her face, as he had done with her arrangement? It was truly a struggle... but Felix pictured a huge, black wall encircling his mind.
"I'm ready," said Felix, closing his eyes so he could picture the wall more clearly. He felt the tendrils of Bianca's magic scraping at the walls, clawing to find a way in. Felix remained stoic, strong, reinforcing the black wall of mental fortitude as she tried to find a way in. After a few more moments, Felix was sure he wouldn't be able to hold up the wall any longer, and Bianca retreated from his mind. Breathing heavily, Felix's eyes fluttered open, grey meeting brown. Pride shone in the darker pair, a faint smile at Bianca's lips. "That was really good. Let's try again," she said, the lilting tone of her voice in contrast with the mental exhaustion he felt.
"Can't I rest?" asked Felix. Bianca simply shook her head. "Those who want to get into your mind will not rest," she replied, before attacking his mental walls once more. They practiced again and again, Felix feeling more and more drained with each passing moment until the black wall of mental fortitude was nearly a permanent fixture. Months of practicing, and finally, Felix could repel the skilled Bianca with only his mind. If only he had the same way to block out the way he felt when she looked at him.
