he was home. he needed a break from school. he couldn't handle hearing rumors anymore. that he was part of the bad side. that he had provided a distraction for the kidnappings that he had done everything on purpose. he was a strong person and he knew that but there was only so much a person could take. his mother's memory had been the first straw. his and james' fight had been the second. lily getting bitten by a werewolf was the third. the tower accident was the fourth and now his break up with andy was the sixth. he knew there were people dealing with more problems that was he was but damn it he was allowed to struggle too. not that he was going to voice that out loud but he could have trouble coming to terms with things that were lost to him. sure he'd only been dating andy for a month but it had been a good month. they'd had fun together, it had been great and he'd really thought it had the potential to grow into something till he'd realised she was in love with phil. he'd been a jerk. he knew that but finding out had hurt. he felt like she'd been using him to forget about phil and it hurt. he ran his hand through his hair, leaned on his crutches and heads up the drive to the house. the knight bus driving off in the distance. he hadn't told his father he was coming home. hadn't told anyone but the person he had seeked permission from. it probably wasn't the smartest thing he could have done, travelling alone and not quite one hundred percent himself but he hadn't seen another way. he bit his lip as he moved to open the door, stepped inside and dropped his bag at the door. his mother's shoes were there? he tilted his head a little and looked down the hall. "mom? are you here?" he asked, chewing his lip and closing the door behind him.

Harry heard the door open over the clatter of pots and pans. He pulled his hands out of the soapy water and went to grab his wand. He glanced at Ginny who was standing next to him, ready to dry the clean dishes. Thoughts of dark wizards and purifiers raced through his brain, but were dispersed when he heard the familiar voice of Albus calling out for his mom. Harry took the towel for the dishes from Ginny, a small smile growing on his face as he dried his hands. He missed his son. Of course, he missed all of his children. He briefly wondered why he was home, and how he had gotten there, but the first thing he wanted to do was to hug him. Then he walked out to the entry way to see Albus. His son looked worn out. He stood there on his crutches, his face looking as distraught as Albus' face ever looked. "Albus, what... here come sit down." Harry suggested moving to help his son to the couch a few feet away.

Ginny almost dropped the dish she was holding when she heard the voice at her door. She didn't recognize which son it was, which crushed her, but he was asking for her . The past few months had been so hard on her children, she knew that. Her heart fluttered with nervous energy as Harry took the towel to dry his hands and went ahead. She set the dish down and took a deep breath as she dried her own hands.
She heard Harry offer for Albus to sit down. She could hear the worry. She stepped into the room entrance where the men stood and have Albus a little wave. "Hey, you okay?" she asked, stepping forward toward the boy who looked so much like Harry. But, she was slowly getting better at seeing herself in him now..

"Albus, what... here come sit down." he moved to step forward, taking the crutches from under his arms and he rested them against the staircase. he didn't need them unless he was walking for more than a few steps and to the couch was no issue. though now he was here he had no idea what to say. how to explain why he was there. he wasn't used to it. what was going on in his head was driving him insane and he didn't know what to do about it. "Hey, you okay?" he looked up to see his mother there. a momentary flash of surprise had been his first thought, after all his mother had been living at his grandparents since her accident and to see her home now was a surprise. but a good one.
he had to think about her question. how did he say it? that he wasn't okay. he bit his lip and didn't take a step closer to the couch, he saw his mother step closer and some instinct in him had his body walking toward her. away from his father and over to his mother. he did something he hadn't done since he was a kid, since he had first left for school.he wrapped his arms around her tightly. he had to duck a little because he was taller than her but he hugged her, his face pressed into the red mass of waves that was her hair and he didn't let go. he sniffed once, the unfamiliar feeling of getting upset washed over him and he closed his eyes, kept his arms around his mother and stood there with her. "no" he said, quietly. as quiet as he could.

He wasn't surprised when his son pulled away and walked over to Ginny. That was what happened. Comfort comes from mom, everyone knows that. It warmed his heart to see his son wanting to share something with them. And seeing him huge Ginny, everything seemed right. This was how life was supposed to be.
Not knowing how to help his son, he just sat on the back of the couch, waiting for whatever it was Albus had come home for. He must have had a reason, and a pretty good one. Besides, he was content to know his family was coming back together.

Ginny was surprised as the boy turned away from his father and was putting his arms around her. At first she didn’t move. But after a moment, she finally wrapped her arms around his waist. He was so tall she couldn’t believe it. He didn’t say anything at first, but she heard the sniffling. She removed an arm from his waist to lift it and place it in his hair. Finally, he spoke, one small word in answer to her question.
She could actually hear her heart breaking.
Over her shoulder she made eye contact with Harry. ”Don’t worry. Mums here, Al,” she muttered, stroking his hair gently. It was strange, the way her maternal instincts seemed to sweep over any uncomfortableness in the situation.

”Don’t worry. Mums here, Al,” was all it took. he felt it happen the flood gates opened and while he struggled to let it flow eventually it did. he tightened his hold on his mother as he started to sob, the tears from his eyes pooling on her shoulder as he kept his head buried in her shoulder. sobs wracked through his body as he let go of the last few months. everything that had happened. the tension that had been between him and james, the growing dislike between them for different reasons. differences of opinion and personality. almost loosing his mother, having lost her in more ways than one and only just starting to get her back. lily being attacked and becoming a werewolf, everything his little sister was going to go through and he wouldn't be able to help her. him snapping in the astronomy tower, almost blowing up his cousins because he hadn't been able to control his temper, injuring himself and others. he didn't know how to move past that guilt, it was still just as strong as it had been the day after the accident, if anything it was getting worse. people blaming him for it, saying he had done it on purpose. for the sake of the other side. because he had wanted to kill them. it killed him to hear that. then the kidnappings, students being taken from the school, there had been people killed, it was the first time the students had had to fight for their lives, most of them had never had to before and it had been horrible. even for al. then his break up with andy. it had been the last thing he could take. he wasn't sure what he was exactly bawling about but it was happening, all of those things running through his head as he struggled to get it under control. he drew in a few ragged breathes and moved to press his fingers into his eyes. "i-i'm sorry .. s-so sorry .. i d-don't .. i c-can't" he swallowed as he moved to try and get out of his mother's arms, wanting to turn away from them in shame for what had just happened. to him it made him look weak, like he wasn't strong and he hated that.

Was it possible for his heart to be full and to break at the same time? Albus started sobbing into Ginny's arms, something he hadn't done (at least to Harry's knowledge) in years. He thought he had an idea of why Albus was breaking down. He himself had been going through many of the same things. Ginny's memory loss, James and Albus being at each others throats, Lily being a werewolf, and he couldn't forget Albus blowing up a tower. This had not been an easy year for the Potter family. But even as he watched his son break down, he saw his wife comfort him. Not the 17 year old Ginny who had somehow resurfaced, but the mother of his children. It was like she never left. A weight lifted and he felt that, somehow, everything was going to be alright. Albus tried to pull away from Ginny, probably embarrassed. But he shouldn't have to worry about that. So Harry moved around the couch and sat down on the other side of his son, trapping him on the couch. He didn't say anything, but did wrap his arms around two of the most important people in his life.

As the boy in her arms started to cry, Ginny tightened her grip around him, positively sure that she had to help him. She didn't know how, or what she was supposed to do, but just standing there with him felt like she was at least making a small difference. Too soon, Albus tried to pull away from her and she let him, but she kept an arm around his shoulders. She waited a moment before speaking.
"You don't have to... it's okay if you need to be upset about things, Albus. Trust me," she looked up at Harry, "you can only be strong for so long." Harry knew that better than anyone, but Ginny had a pretty good idea. Heck, they're whole generation had a pretty good idea.
"Is there something... specific you want to talk about?" she asked, looking back at Albus and finding her hand lifting to stroke the back of his head gently.

"You don't have to... it's okay if you need to be upset about things, Albus. Trust me," "you can only be strong for so long." he pressed his fingers into his eyes as he felt his father sit down on the couch beside him and he felt his arms go around him aswell. he had his mother hugging him from one side and his dad from another and he couldn't help but feel the safest he had in a while. but he did have to be strong all the time. that's what he did. he was the one who didn't let things get to him. who tried to keep his head when things went wrong and who didn't let emotions cloud his judgment and for the last few months it seemed that's all he could do. it wasn't a level thinking that had gone off at james, it wasn't lack of emotion that had blown up the tower and it wasn't a calm person who had torn andy to pieces over something as simple as her hugging another person. he shook his head a little as his mother spoke again. "Is there something... specific you want to talk about?" he felt her hand on his head and before he knew it he was leaning back into his mothers touch. he bit his lip. where did he start? there was so much. had he even told his parents he was dating james' girlfriends sister? he couldn't remember. "it's not anything important" he said as he rubbed his knuckle into the corner of his eye. "stupid in the grand scheme of things" he had to admit to himself he felt better. he didn't feel like blowing up he didn't feel like the world was falling down around him and he felt more at ease than he had in weeks. "andy and i broke up. i mean .. we were only dating for a month or so but she still loved phil and it wasn't fair on him and it .. i yelled at her" he brushed his hair back with his hand as he realised he was rambling. he never rambled. this was a new thing and he cleared his throat a little and bit his lip.

As Harry listened to his son's confession, of sorts, he felt his heart expand. He knew all to well the feelings his son was having. True, he would have been Phil in the same situation in his Hogwarts days, but when the person you thought you loved went with someone else, it stung worse than anything else. tightening his arm around his son, he glanced at Ginny, a small sad smile on his face. "Did you mean what you said?" he asked softly. Many times hurtful words were said in anger, and they could make once good relationships irreparable.

"Hey, that's not stupid," Ginny said. Then she nodded at Harry as he asked if Albus meant when he said. In all reality yelling was never a good idea, and generally it came from a place of darkness where you said things you didn't mean. Granted, those things often had a seed of truth rooted in them as well. "I'm sorry," she said again. She was sure that Philip and Andy were having just as hard of a time as he was right now. Especially if there was some confusion for the poor girl as to what boy she really wanted to be with. Ginny had dealt with that a lot in school. Always wanting to be with Harry but dating others. They were often nice and she often really liked them, but never as much as she had liked Harry. That was a hard thing to deal with. Either be alone and love Harry or date people and love Harry. She chose the less lonely path and no, she didn't regret it. She learned a lot of things from those relationships, just as she was sure Andy did from Albus. But she didn't bring that up, just yet. This was about cheering up Al, not standing up for Andy.

"Did you mean what you said?" he had. that was one of the worst parts. he'd meant all he had said to her. he wasn't one to say things he didn't mean even if they were said in anger and if he did feel bad after them. he wasn't someone would beat around the bush to spare someone's feelings but this was the first time he had felt guilty. he knew he felt that way because he had made her cry, pushed her so she had almost cursed him but as least, some small reprieve, it had allowed her to admit her feelings about phil. "i did. i meant every word i said to her. what she was doing wasn't fair .. we couldn't go anywhere and she knew it because of phil and i just .. " he bit his lip and wondered if he sounded like a jerk to his parents. he hadn't expected andy to love him. he wasn't sure he had made that clear to her or not but it was too late now. he had expected her to not be thinking about someone else while they were together though. maybe it was too much to think, too much to expect of someone. he wasn't sure. "I'm sorry," he shrugged his shoulders as much as he could in spite of his father's tight grip around him, which oddly enough he found comforting rather than off putting. "at least she can be with phil now .. he'll be happy about that" that was the one good thing to come out of the argument. phil had followed her and he was almost pretty sure what was going to happen. phil probably would have been almost ecstatic about the fact him and andy had broken up ..

If he really had meant everything he said, then it probably needed to be said. Keeping things like that bottled up is never a good idea. Harry had a feeling his son would prefer to keep all of his feelings bottled up inside. That wasn't healthy for anyone, but he, hopefully, would figure that out eventually. "Good, it's good that you didn't say something you didn't mean out of anger." Harry had taken forever to learn that lesson. He remembered how often he had blown up and said all sorts of things he had regretted later. Thankfully, Albus had gotten Ginny's (mostly) level head. True, both he and Ginny had their fiery streaks, Ginny just knew how to control hers better. Phil, Neville's middle child. Well, at least something a little happy was coming out of this whole thing. But Harry didn't feel any joy for Phil, no he only felt sympathy for his son and the heartbreak he was going through. "Perhaps, but that doesn't make it any easier for you." It wasn't a question, it was just a fact.

Ginny didn't know Phil that well, at least not that she remembered, but she wouldn't be surprised if she had gotten along with the kid. Nevilles son, after all, had to be someone that Ginny had taken a notice in. She loved Neville and therefore was sure she loved his children. As Al went on to say that he meant every word, and Harry went on to say that it was good that he had remained truthful, Ginny nodded in agreement. "Well, I think that you should let yourself be upset for a few days and then find a way to get past it. There's no reason to let yourself stay sad. So, for now," she leaned forward to kiss her sons forehead before standing, "I'm going to make some tea and we all can just relax, okay?" isn't that what moms did? Provided tea and treats for their troubled children? That's what her mum did. "Do you guys want to join me? We could make some cookies too?" eh, it was an idea, right?
