Callie had much to do that day, and she started it out with taking a fast shower and getting dressed quickly. She threw her hair in a bun, put on a light dress and a pair of sandals and she made her way out the door. It had become a habit for her to go to Madame Puddifoot's in Hogsmeade when she had things she needed to get done. With her seventh year approaching at Hogwarts, she had a lot to do this summer for the music club she was in. Being co-captain, writing the music was was her job and it was one of her favorite things to do, even if it was extremely stressful.
Walking in to the cute little restaurant, she ordered a bagel, a Danish and a tea and sat down in the corner near the window. She pulled her paper and pencil out her book bag and set it on the table in front of her before reaching in to grab her guitar. The waitress brought her food over and Callie nodded in thanks to her with a smile. Cal set down her guitar again and ate a few bites, thinking of the music she was tempted to write.

Lysander had heard that RJ was working on Madame Puttifoot’s. That was, of course, not the reason he had chosen to visit the tea shop, no sir. He had come to Madame Puttifoot’s because he wanted tea, not because he was interested in seeing a Hufflepuff half-giant. If he happened to see RJ, then Lysander was not going to complain, but he had other, perfectly valid reasons to be in the tea shop. Like buying tea. Which was what he intended to do, except for the fact that the tea shop was markedly more crowded than he had anticipated, and the only open seat was one at a table for two. There was already a girl sitting at the table, though, and Lysander considered turning around. No, that wouldn’t do. He’d just have to interact with other people. Social interaction was not on the top of his list of priorities.
The Ravenclaw approached the girl with his chin tilted stubbornly into the air, trying to exude an aura of confidence. “Hello. My name is Lysander. May I sit with you?” The girl seemed to be occupied with something, so Lysander decided that keeping it short and simple was for the better, for both of them.

Callie glanced up when she realized someone was speaking to her. She swallowed her food and smiled at the boy in front of her. He looked slightly familiar but couldn't really place a house or name. Taking a quick sip of her tea and motioned to the chair in front of her. "Oh, go ahead! No worries. It's nice to meet you, Lysander. I'm Callie; I'm a Gryffindor." Callie realized it was one of the twin Scamander boys, and she was pretty positive he was in Ravenclaw but figured she'd find out sometime soon anyways.

Sander took pause when the girl first spoke to him. Her voice was a nice color, he decided after a moment of contemplation, and made a mental note of it, matching the emerald green of her voice with her round, bright-eyed face. She introduced herself as Callie, and then Lysander was absolutely sure that he hadn’t made a memory error; he had never met anyone with that name before, and he wasn’t familiar with many Gryffindors other than those in his own year. “It’s nice to meet you, Callie.” He responded somewhat stiffly, taking the chair opposite her and then turning his torso so he was facing the interior of the café instead of out the window. There was a good view of most of the building from here, so if RJ was here, then Sander would be sure to spot him. “Is that a guitar?” The Ravenclaw decided to ask, even though he was certain that was what the instrument was. “Do you play?”

When Callie heard his stiff response she rose an eyebrow at him, not questioning him but curious as to why he said it the way he did. Either way, it wasn't all that important to her. They had only just met. She took another sip of her tea and crossed her legs beneath the table in front of them. "You as well, Lysander." As her eyes studied him she thought about how she'd like to touch his hair. It looked so silky and soft, she liked it quite a bit.
Callie glanced down at her guitar and smiled softly. "Yes to both of your questions. I've played for quite some time now. I'm in the Music Club at Hogwarts, actually." Most people tended to ask about her guitar and her music, and she didn't mind speaking about it at all. Callie loved music and she loved even more to be able to share it with people.

Lysander hadn’t been aware that Hogwarts had a club for music. He should have guessed, considering all the other things they had clubs for, but still. Listening to music had always been an interesting experience for Sander, and he had a sort of love-hate relationship with it. Listening to good music was amazing for him – a bit like what he imagined tripping on LSD would be like, actually. Colors were everywhere and the sound consumed him and he was left with his breath taken away. Bad music though, was horrible. He distinctly remembered vomiting once when he heard a particular song on the radio, though he couldn’t remember the song or why it had been so displeasing to the ear. “I hear colors.” Lysander said suddenly, as if trying to excuse the long pause he had left in between her comment and his own. “So music is a little different for me than it is for most people.” He took a deep breath, then continued. “Any reason you chose guitar?” There were a hundred other instruments to play, after all.

Lysander's next few words intrigued Callie. Colors? How do you hear colors? She took a small bite of her food and washed it down with some more tea. The barista came over and filled her cup back up and Callie nodded in thanks. Thinking as she poured in milk and sugar, she glanced back at the boy. "If you don't mind me asking, how do you hear colors exactly?" She hoped not to offend him, but she was very interested in what he meant. He then asked about her choice of instrument and Callie smiled softly at him. "My mum used to play guitar. I've always thought the sound was beautiful, and I also missed being able to hear it every night." Callie took another sip and explained more, "My mum died when I was 9."

Lysander always ran into the same problem when it came to explaining synesthesia. That was, he couldn’t explain it. It was something that just was. He heard colors because they were there whenever sound was, even when his eyes were closed or he didn’t particularly want to be assaulted by something bright or ugly or imperfect. “It’s something called synesthesia. The wires in my brain are crossed in places normal people’s aren’t.” He said, settling for the scientific answer rather than the philosophical one. The Ravenclaw listened as the Gryffindor explained how her love for guitar came from love for her mother, and managed a sympathetic look when she said her mother died when she was younger. “I’m sorry.” He said quietly. “I’m sure that you’re just as good at guitar as she was.” He tried, hoping that he sounded comforting.

As Callie listened to Lysander explain how he hears colors, she became very enthralled with how he explained it. It definitely made sense, and in her brain she wondered if he saw music instead of colors but she didn't think he'd enjoy that question and she didn't want to offend him so she kept quiet about that. "Well, I'll definitely have to go look that up in the library, it sounds quite interesting." He then apologized and complemented her, and Callie laughed softly with a smile. "Why thank you, Lysander. That's very sweet of you to say. But no need to apologize, it's been years. And I know she's happy, wherever she is."

Lysander nodded mutely when Callie said that she’d look synesthesia up in the library. She’d find, more or less, what he’d said, and he didn’t particularly appreciate that she seemed to think he was something to be studied. Gryffindors never studied when they didn’t have to, did they? He sighed and then mentally reconnected with the present only to hear the spiel about a ‘better place’. He wasn’t so sure he believed in that, but Lysander was smart enough not to say that, instead moving on to a totally different topic of conversation. “Do you know what classes you’ll be taking in the coming year?” Leave it to a Ravenclaw to make everything about academics.

Lysander didn't speak much after Callie was done talking and he didn't seem that enthralled in their conversation. She hoped she hadn't offended him; there wasn't anything she thought she said that was rude or offensiveness so Callie just ignored it. She took another bite of her scone and chased it down with more tea before answering him "I do know I'll definitely be taking apparition. Not sure about others, you?"

Lysander was all too happy to continue the conversation about the upcoming school year. School was something, probably the only thing, that was easy for him to talk about, and he was more than ready to rattle off his class list. "Charms, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Alchemy, and Care of Magical Creatures. I'm also the head of the Magical Creatures Club." Lysander said proudly. "Are you considering being a member of any clubs? Because we could really use more members." All of the clubs at Hogwarts could use more members, really, except for the dueling club. Lysander rolled his eyes - the idea of a club just for learning how to fight was stupid. A club for nurturing and protecting was really much more useful.

@lysander 100 <3 Callie smiled at him as he went off listing all of his classes. She wasn't too surprised that he remembered all of them, she probably could if she tried hard enough but it wasn't usually something peers speak with her about. He mentioned the Magical Creatures Club and she nodded her head. "I'm actually the co-captain of the Orchestra Club, and I'm the photographer for the school paper." She hadn't thought about being on any clubs as she was on two and had a full schedule, she didn't want to overwork herself so much that her grades and work went down.

Lysander should have expected that someone who was so musically inclined would be more heavily involved in the school’s tiny music department beyond just being a part of the club. Then again, there were a lot of people at Hogwarts who were musically inclined – a girl in his house in the year below Sander sang like an angel. The school paper, though, he hadn’t seen coming. “Well, I’m sure there are a lot of people who are constantly competing for your attention.” He said with a small smile. The Ravenclaw knew that Hogwarts had its fair share of narcissists and attention seekers, though he wouldn’t come straight out and say that most of those people were in Callie’s same house. “Is the paper any fun? I’m not much of a writer but I considered joining once or twice in case people thought that articles about magical creatures were interesting.” Most people didn’t enjoy their Care of Magical Creatures class, at least that Lysander saw, which was a shame.

@lysander 192 <3 Callie laughed and shook her head. "Actually, not really. Most people don't know when I'm actually taking the pictures; I like candid more than anything." She was glad people weren't always fighting for her attention, though. She wasn't one to do well with big crowds. "Yeah, it's fun...it's a good place to get to know people and to try to figure out how everything in the paper will be placed. My biggest job, though, is to match photos with articles and get good photos." She had just recently spoken to Grey and he had asked her to help out with the next few articles in the next paper and she was excited for that. Taking a sip of coffee, she glanced at the clock up above her. Speaking of the paper, she had a meeting soon. She smiled at Lysander and put her guitar away. "It was nice meeting you Lysander, maybe we can have a chat again sometime soon; I've actually got a meeting for the paper in a couple minutes so I've got to split." Callie stood up and as she walked towards the door she looked back and gave him a wave.
