@edmund <3 Addilyn nodded her head excitedly at Edmund. She was so glad to know there were people out there that were just as excited to learn as she was. "Yes! Well, you fly on the broom. The broom itself doesn't fly. It's amazing being up in the air!" Addi couldn't help but grin. The boy finally showed something that looked like a smile, and it made Addi happy. She nodded her head once more, "Of course! I can give it to you once we get to the school! I don't have my luggage with me, of course, so I don't have it."
"A half-blood is someone who has one magical parent. Well, I'm not sure it's confusing. My dad is a pureblood, and my mum is a muggleborn like you. Her parents are muggles. So that makes me a half-blood. But, if my father was a half-blood and not a pureblood, I'd still be a half-blood..." She drifted off as she was starting to confuse herself. Shaking her head, Addi smiled at him once more. "Well, I know what Halloween is. That's my birthday, and it's my favorite holiday! She's also taught us about a few other things...like, ah, cell phones? And, uh...a bike, I think it's called?"

Edmund bit his lip in excitement. He would get to fly on a broom? He couldn't wait to try it. "Wait, do they teach first year students how?" He asked when the question popped into his head. What if you could only fly if your parents taught you how? Flying on a broom probably wasn't a necessary skill. Blast.
He nodded when she said she'd let him borrow the book once they got to school. That was, if he ever saw her again once they got to school. "Thanks."
He didn't like what she had to say about muggleborns and half-bloods and pure bloods. The whole thing seemed ... Old fashioned. Then she explained things she knew and he nodded again. "Yeah, if you're talking about something with wheels that you pedal around with your feet, it's a bike," he said, trying to be encouraging. Why? What was so different about this girl? By this point in the conversation, Ed would be trying to end it with most people. But with her he wanted to prolong it. Shame she wanted to be in Will's house.

@edmund <3 She watched the boy bite his lip and become excited. Addilyn grinned at him and nodded her head. "Oh yes! One of our classes is Flying, at least that's what my brother said. But we all learn everything there is to know about Quidditch and flying and how to do it!"
Edmund explained about the bike contraption she had just mentioned and Addi blushed slightly. "Yes, a bike. I'm sorry, I forget things easily when it comes to muggle objects. My mum doesn't tend to teach us a lot, unfortunately. But I kind of want to take the Muggle Studies course at Hogwarts too." Addi smiled again, this time a bit shy. "So, what's your family like?"

Edmund couldn't help himself. He grinned at the girl. Well, not specifically at the girl, more like he grinned because of what she said. "I can't wait to learn how to fly and all about Quidditch," he told her. Why not tell her? It wasn't like he had to treat everyone at Hogwarts like an enemy, right? He could try and find some friends. Friends He froze momentarily as he thought the word. He hadn't thought about having friends in a long time.
He shrugged, his expression under control again. "Don't worry about it. I forget magic objects, so I guess it has to do with what you grow up with," Edmund hoped she understood what he was trying to say because he wanted her to feel comfortable. Strange. He normally didn't care how people felt around him.
His expression darkened a little when she asked about his family. He tried to stop it, but he was sure she'd be able to notice. If anyone else asked about his family, he would have been rude and told them to mind their own business, but this girl ... Addilyn. She was trying to be nice. He couldn't get angry for that. He sighed and finally answered her, "Annoying. I don't get along with any of them," he confessed. "My older brother Will wants me to be a miniature version of himself and thinks that he can boss me around. My older sister Susan is just as bossy, and is always looking down on me, treating me like I don't measure up. My younger sister Lucy ... well, she adores Will. She does everything he says and always agrees with him. My-" Edmund broke off. He wasn't going to tell her about his father and mother. Not right now, no matter what she said. He didn't want to talk about his dad. "I don't fit in with any of them," he finished lamely, hoping she didn't notice his hesitation. "What about yours?" Edmund wanted the conversation directed away from him and his family desperately.

@edmund <3 "Good! I'm glad! I love flying." Addilyn smiled at him. He finally seemed excited, and slowly starting to come out of his shell. That was one of Addi's favorite things to do...get other people to open up more. It was an enjoyment for her and a great thing for them.
Her eyes watched Edmund's face as he spoke. Hm. That was different. Addilyn hasn't met many people who didn't enjoy their family. Well...except her brother. But he was an exception; Grey was just Grey. A boring twelve year old. Addi smiled gently at Edmund. She noticed he hadn't mentioned his mother or father, however she was going to take that one slow. Maybe in the future he'd tell her. "Well, maybe that will all change once Hogwarts starts. Magic changes people." She smiled softly.

Edmund tried to stay cheerful, but it wasn't going to happen. Not now that she brought up his family. Talking about magic was a way to get him out of his shell, but his family? No, they always brought him down. He just couldn't compare to any of them. Will was braver than him, Susan smarter, Lucy loyal. Edmund was the odd man out, the one who didn't have a place and talking of his siblings reminded him of this. When Addilyn said things would chance, Edmund let out a short breath of laughter. "Well it didn't help this last year, so I doubt it," he mumbled as he turned to face the window. He gazed out on the countryside that was flying by. Man, his dad would have loved this. His thoughts grew even darker.

@edmund <3 Addilyn could tell he wasn't in the mood to talk about his siblings or family. She couldn't imagine what was so bad about them, but she was done asking. He needed a friend, and that was exactly what she was going to be.
Smiling gently, Addilyn moved her seat from across from him to right next to him. Their knees touched and she grinned. Addi reached her hand over to grab his. "Don't worry. I'll be your friend. And I'm hilarious." Her teeth shown at him, hoping this cheered him up at least a little bit.
The trolley lady suddenly opened their door and Addi's eyes widened, excited. "Oh! Yum! But..." Her face immediately sorrowed. She had no money. Her parents hadn't given her any and not only that, but they didn't have money to give her to spend. They needed it for more important things. "No thank you...I haven't got any money." She spoke quietly, hoping Edmund hadn't heard her.

Edmund jumped when the girl grabbed his hand. He slowly turned to face her, surprised when she said she'd be his friend. He gave a weak smile when she said she was hilarious. It sure seemed like she was trying to be funny. Maybe she noticed how talking about his family upset him. Edmund stared at her for a second until a thought popped into his mind. "What if you get put in a different house? Can we still be friends then?" he asked, worried for a second. Are you only supposed to have friends in your house here? He wasn't sure exactly how things worked at Hogwarts.
Some lady opened the door and Addilyn seemed excited for a moment, then discouraged. Edmund heard her say something about money. He looked at the cart and figured the woman had some assortment of snacks or treats and was interested in trying some. Before coming to school, his mother got him a little bit of wizard money, so he figured he could afford at least something. "Hey," he said, trying to get the girl's attention, "What's good? I've never ..." he trailed off, sure she would know he meant he'd never seen any of these treats before. The question was: would she help him choose something? If she did, he was going to get something for her. It was the least he could do for her, after all her kindness.

@edmund <3 The boy jumped and Addilyn giggled. She hadn't meant to scare him, but she wanted him to feel better. She gave his hand a soft squeeze and then let go when he asked her about their houses. "Oh of course! You can be friends with whoever you want, and I'm sure I'd have classes with you anyways since we're the same year. Our common rooms would just be different, like a big living room below your bedroom. So I wouldn't be able to talk to you in there."
As soon as she turned away from the trolley lady, Edmund asked her what candy was good. She smiled gently at him. "Well...the chocolate frogs are good. As well as the Every Flavored Beans. They're fun." She sat back down and glanced out the window.

Edmund felt his nerves lessen when she finally let go of his hand. He'd never had a stranger treat him like that. It was strange but at the same time ... he liked it. He nodded as he tried to understand what she was saying. The whole thing about common rooms sounded different, but he was sure he'd understand later. "Well then, let's be friends," he agreed with a hesitant smile.
After she explained some candies that she liked, Edmund turned to the lady and asked for two chocolate frogs and two of the Every Flavored Beans. He paid her slowly, trying to remember how the money worked and then he turned around and sat back down next to Addilyn. "Here you go," he said as he casually handed her one of both kinds. He focused his attention on the candy in front of him, not wanting to draw attention to what he'd just done. He realized belatedly that he might have embarrassed her by doing that, but he hadn't meant to. It wasn't a big deal to him, but this candy was ... strange. He stared at the boxes curiously. "Is there anything I need to know about these before I open them up?"

@edmund <3 Addilyn was glad he wanted to be friends. She needed some, herself. Even though it wouldn't be all that difficult for her to find friends, Edmund was her first friend. And she hoped they'd be friends for awhile. He seemed like a good person. "Great! I'm glad."
He then stood up and ordered the sweets she had just mentioned. Addilyn's face blushed a deep red. She wasn't used to people buying her things other than her parents, and maybe he was just being nice to her, but she didn't want to be pitied because she didn't have much money. Although...it didn't seem like Edmund was that type of person. "Uh...thank you..." She spoke softly, looking down at the two items in her hand.
Then, she giggled. "Ah well...the beans are all different flavors of course, so good luck with those. But be careful with the frog, they tend to jump." Addi winked.

For the first time during this whole ride, Addilyn seemed a little shy when he handed her the treats. Edmund hoped he didn't embarrass her but he wasn't really sure how to make friends or how to treat them. He figured sharing was a good place to start. Hopefully she agreed with that.
Edmund rolled his eyes when she said the beans were all different flavors. "Well isn't that the point of beans?" He wasn't trying to be rude, Edmund just didn't understand what was different about these. "To be all sorts of good flavors and you have to guess which one you're getting just by the color?" Then her comment about the frog. "Wait, so I can't eat the chocolate?" His voice was hesitant, unsure. He looked at the box skeptically, wondering if he really wanted to open it after all.

@edmund <3 Addilyn couldn't help but giggle at Edmund's question, her shy persona completely gone. "No! Some of these ones taste good. But...a lot of them don't taste good at all. Let's just say...witches and wizards aren't that nice." Addi grinned brightly. She looked into her box and pulled out one that she knew was booger flavored. She looked at Edmund and handed it to him. "Here. Try this one."
"Oh, no you can eat it! It's just hard to catch it is all. And there's always a famous witch or wizard on the back of the card." Addilyn smiled gently. She ate a few of her beans, making sure they were good tasting ones as she watched Edmund open his chocolate up.

Edmund was confused, and his face probably showed it. Why would wizards make candy that tasted bad? It didn't make any sense. Wasn't the point of candy to make one happy? He looked at Addi nervously as he took the bean she handed to him. Would she give him a bad tasting one? He really didn't know if he trusted her or not, but he decided to give it a shot. He put the bean in his mouth and then spit it out almost instantly. That was salty and disgusting and he looked at her accusingly. "What was that?" he demanded. He wasn't angry, per say, but he wanted to know.
Once she told him he could eat the chocolate frog, he started opening the box instantly. "Cool," he commented, too interested in what he was doing to really focus on coming up with a real response. Anything to get that icky taste out of his mouth. When he opened the box, he watched in surprise as the frog hopped away from him, to the seat across from him. He got up and hurried over there, trapping the frog quickly in his hands. This was weird. But hopefully it was good chocolate. Still, the frog seemed alive. He turned back to Addilyn. "It's not a real frog, right? Like, I don't have to wait a while so it can stop moving, or do I?" He knew it was ridiculous and probably just chocolate, but he had to make sure.

@edmund <3 Addilyn burst out laughing. She laughed so much that a few tears had formed in her eyes. She couldn't help it; it was way too funny to watch him throw the jelly bean in his mouth and immediately spit it out after. Granted, maybe it was a little mean, but she enjoyed it. And hey, she's had one before too. "It...it was booger flavored." She grinned brightly at the boy, hoping he wasn't too upset with her.
As he began opening the chocolate, Addilyn stayed in her seat and watched the frog immediately jump away from Edmund. Shockingly, he caught it on his first try. "Oh! Good job! My first few I couldn't catch them." She smiled and he then asked if he could eat it. Her eyes widened slightly and she nodded her head. "Oh of course!"
