"So when I make up my mind, it'll be my turn to just sit here and wait for you to show up so I can tell you?" Anna liked this version of Oscar so much more than the one who was angry at her. She couldn't tell if he was being sincere or just saying these things to distract himself from his disappointment at not being chosen, but she didn't care. At least they were having a good conversation and she was helping lift his spirits a little bit.
She raised an eyebrow when he finished her sentence. Yes, that was what she was going for, but she wasn't sure if she liked the way he said it. "And if you keep the fight going, I'll just keep in mind that you want exactly the same thing," she fired right back, trying to ignore the tingle in her fingers when he squeezed her hand again. She couldn't keep the smile off her face, so she gave up trying.
Anna shrugged, "I wouldn't mind you being in my classes. Some of them, at least," she corrected herself quickly, almost stumbling over her words. Even though she knew Oscar didn't think of himself as a scholar, she did not want him to see her in Potions. Ever. "Or were you saying your classmates won't like it?" She thought for a moment. He was probably right, even though he shouldn't be. The whole point was to make friends, and one of the easiest ways to do that would probably be through combined classes. Oh well.
At his next questions she smiled. "Yes, we have tons of clubs. Probably one for anything you're interested in." Anna nodded at Oscar's idea. It would be a good way for him to get to know more people ... but she wasn't sure if she wanted that. If he got to know lots of Hogwarts girls, he might not want to meet with her anymore. After all, they didn't really get along from the beginning. Her eyebrows puckered and her smile faded a little bit as her mind continued to wonder what him meeting other Hogwarts girls would do. Why did she care?

The Beauxbatons boy nodded when his Hogwarts friend asked if it was her turn to sit and wait for him to show up. “We have to take turns. Make things fair.” He told her. Maybe life wasn’t fair, but Oscar was going to try to be, even if that meant coming up with ridiculous hypotheticals that would never come to pass.
“Yes. When we fight, it is just a way of saying we want to talk even more.” He agreed. It was different from how normal people viewed conflict, but Oscar could say with certainty that he was not entirely normal, and he suspected that Anna wasn’t either. She must have had to have been at least a little special for the Goblet to pick her over all of the other students who had entered from Hogwarts. “We are silly.” He told Anna, drawing the conclusion from the obvious absurdity of his previous statement.
Oscar smiled when Anna said she wouldn’t mind having him in her classes. “It is not you I am worried about.” He replied. “Your classmates are very intense. Competitive. I think they would think I was…how do you say…sabotage? Yes, I was sabotage you.” He said, wincing a little at his poor grammar. “You know, taking the information you learn and giving it to Emile.” When Anna asked about his own classmates, Ozzy nodded. “Yes, them too.” He answered. “They like Hogwarts, yes, but many think, as I do, that it is unfair for Beauxbatons not to be recognized.” That was the subject they had argued about for a long while on their first meeting, so Ozzy decided to leave it at a simple statement so as not to reignite that flame.
“Well, which clubs are you in?” Oscar asked. He wasn’t comfortable with the idea of crashing a Hogwarts club meeting without someone he already knew, and even if he hated the club itself, he could muscle his way through a meeting so that he could get to know some of the Hogwarts students, and then use his relationships with them to join the clubs he was actually interested in. The plan was a little convoluted, but it made sense to Ozzy. Besides, when you were friends with someone you were supposed to be supportive of their interests, and there was nothing more supportive than going to a club meeting with them! Oscar was satisfied with himself for thinking of such an ingenious solution.

Anna laughed and shrugged, "I guess I can handle that," she agreed after a moment. She was having too much fun to argue with him about it. Then he agreed with her and she laughed again. Why was she in such a good mood? Just minutes ago she was trying to figure out ways to lighten his mood because of all that happened with his mothers, but right now they were laughing and teasing. A part of her felt a little guilty about that, but not really. "As long as we both know it, I guess that's ok," she answered with a smile.
"We are silly." Anna grinned at Oscar's declaration. She shrugged, "I can't argue with that." Honestly she couldn't. She was sitting here, holding hands with a boy and taking part in one of the most random conversations she'd ever had. And loving every second.
Anna's first instinct was to disagree with him, but she didn't want to start a fight so she thought about what he said for a minute. It didn't take a lot of thinking to know that he was right. Unless the two of them were dating, which they weren't, Hogwarts students would probably interpret his attendance just the way he said. "You're right, they would probably think you were trying to sabotage me," she replied reluctantly. He talked about his classmates and a sudden thought popped into her mind. "Then..." was she really going to ask this? "Then why are you offering to help me?" It was a valid question and she wondered why she didn't think of it before. She knew how much loyalty he had to his own school, so why did he want to help her practice? Why did he want to help make sure she was safe?
"I'm in charms and the dueling club," Anna answered automatically. He probably should expect that as her answer. At least, he should expect charms. She already told him that she loved it.

“Communication is the most important thing.” Oscar said sagely when Anna commented that as long as they both knew they were fighting for the other’s attention, it was okay. Mutual understandings were the firmest foundation for relationships, and now that the two of them had a few, Oscar wasn’t feeling as shaken by how often he was running into Anna.
Oscar hated that Anna agreed with him about the sabotage. He liked that they had avoided an argument, of course, but there was something sad about having his suspicions about the Hogwarts students confirmed. Not everyone had taken the international cooperation message to heart. Since everyone was returning to their respective home countries at the end of the school year, it didn’t make much sense for there to be long-lasting friendships, Ozzy supposed. Pen pals were nice, but they weren’t friends. That was a sad thought – a year from today, he and Anna would not be friends anymore. They would just be pen pals. Anna asked why he offered to help, and Ozzy paused to consider it. Why had he offered. “Now I have twice the chance to win.” He said, deciding to go the teasing route instead of the serious one. He didn’t know what he would have said if he had chosen to remain serious, but it definitely wasn’t that.
“Charms? I can do Charms.” Ozzy said. He felt like he had told her that before, but Charms was one of the classes that he was actually good at. Yes, they had discussed it – he had asked about the Hogwarts Charms teacher, who was probably the one who supervised the club, and Anna had had a positive opinion of the professor. Maybe this wouldn’t be as boring as he had originally assumed. Dueling, though…Oscar didn’t like dueling. “But I do not think that I should duel.” He told her quietly. He had too much a fear of dying, and while his anger had its peaks, most of the time, Oscar couldn’t bear the idea of hurling spells at another person with the intention to hurt them.

Anna laughed and shook her head when he said he had two chances to win. From what she knew of him, he probably wanted Beauxbatons to win more, but at least he was being nice about it. Still ... she wanted to check something, even if that meant going on dangerous ground. "So ... if I did win, you wouldn't be mad at me?" she asked quietly. She didn't want to start a fight, but she had to know. Was he just teasing or did he really mean that her win would count as a win to him too?
"Well, you'll have to come with me to Charms Club then," she answered after he told her that he was interested in charms, but not in the dueling club. She wasn't particularly surprised. Oscar didn't seem like the type who would like dueling. Anna didn't think she'd like serious duels, but she did like dueling club. It was all about teaching you how to defend yourself, which is exactly what she wanted to know. It was also a good way to meet people, almost everyone in the school did dueling club. "but you don't have to go to dueling club." Anna smiled, even though she was sure that if he didn't want to go, she couldn't have convinced him to. A part of her wanted to tell him about Phoenix Rising, but no. She didn't know him very well yet and what if he hated the idea? No, better to keep that to herself.

Would Oscar be mad if Anna won? It was a good question, and one that he needed to consider longer than three seconds. Still, he knew what answer Anna wanted to hear, and he didn’t want to ruin their lovely conversation by saying that he needed more time to think about something that, in her mind, should have been obvious. “If you win, I will not be mad.” He confirmed, though there was a slight shake in his voice. “As long as you tell all press about the Beauxbatons boy who helped you.” Maybe even a little bit of recognition would be enough to help pull Beauxbatons out of the pit of obscurity. Granted, it would seem a little strange that Oscar had devoted his time to helping the Hogwarts champion instead of the Beauxbatons one, but beggars could not be choosers, and right now, his school was practically begging for media attention. Either that, or Oscar was begging for media attention – they were both equally likely scenarios.
“I will come, but once again, we are needing to know who will wait for who.” Oscar said, smiling again. “Will there be signs? Er, posters?” He said, correcting himself. He didn’t know if Hogwarts clubs advertised their meetings or if it was just expected for people to know to attend them. If there were posters of some sort, then maybe he wouldn’t even have to wait for Anna to go. “I do not like that your school teaches dueling.” Oscar told Anna candidly. “It puts bad taste in my mouth.” True, it gave students the tools they needed to protect themselves, but how could the school be sure that they were not just teaching the next generation of criminals and oppressors? It did not seem worth the risk to Oscar.

Anna smiled when he said he wouldn't get mad, but something was wrong about his voice. She couldn't tell what it was, and there was no way she was going to call him out on it, but she did notice something was wrong. She wanted to tease him, but had a feeling that would be a bad idea after what he just said, which was certainly for her, to make her feel better. "Of course I'll tell them about you," she said easily. She was positive that Oscar would help her, and as long as he did she would have no problem telling the press that.
She grinned at him, "Maybe we should just decide to meet one another at the same time and then no one has to wait," she suggested. She thought about his question. She knew there were normally signs in the Gryffindor Tower, but she never noticed any outside of it. "I don't know. There might be some in the Great Hall," Anna answered with a shrug.
Her eyes widened when Oscar said he didn't like that Hogwarts taught dueling. Her eyebrows furrowed a little as she tried to think why he wouldn't like it. All they mostly did was practice protection spells. They didn't learn much about attacking at all. Quite honestly, it was probably due to the dueling club that at least some of the Hogwarts students didn't die last year when the school was attacked. She didn't want to fight with Oscar, but she didn't want him to think they were teaching Hogwarts students how to kill or seriously injure one another. "I don't think it's what you would expect for a dueling club," she said slowly, careful with her wording. "It's more a club to teach you how to protect yourself and others, more than anything else." Her mouth formed a serious line then, all signs of teasing gone. "If it wasn't for that club, I think lots of Hogwarts students would have died last year, with all that happened." Honestly, she had no idea if Oscar was aware of what happened here last year, but if he was, there was no way she was going to go into details about it.

Oscar smiled when Anna said that she would tell the press about him. It was not the actual idea that made him smile, but the way she said it – of course. Like there was no other option for her. It made Oscar feel more important than he probably was, and he had to resist the urge to kiss the hand he was holding. That was a strange impulse, Oscar thought, slightly taken aback – he was not normally one for the smaller romantic gestures like kissing hands, or even holding them. He wasn’t even in a relationship with Anna – and she probably didn’t want to be in one with him. He still had Margaux, maybe, but even if he didn’t, what Champion of a school would want someone who was remarkable only in how unremarkable he was? “It is alright.” Oscar said with a shrug. “I will wait for you forever.” He froze for a moment after saying that, realizing that his brain, for some strange reason, was stuck in thinking that Anna was his girlfriend. She was not.
“Yes, that is true.” Oscar acquiesced when Anna said that a lot of Hogwarts students could have been killed. He knew what was going on with Hogwarts – there had been a murder and a kidnapping – but that didn’t change his opinion. “But do you not think that the people who came learned to duel for real somewhere, too?” He sighed, knowing that the logic wasn’t exactly fair, but not exactly wanting to admit it. “I know not all duelers are bad.” He told Anna. “And that it is good to protect yourself and the people you love. But it is hard for me to think that someone is teaching how to cast spells that you have to protect yourself against.” Ozzy sighed again, feeling like the language barrier was growing every moment. It was hard for him to express what he was feeling with his limited English vocabulary, and he knew that he could articulate his point more fully if he was speaking in French. But Anna didn’t know French, so he was left with a half-baked explanation. He closed his eyes a moment, and squeezed Anna’s hand, hoping that she could at least somewhat understand him and they would avoid a fight due to his lack of tact.

What in the world was she supposed to say to that? The moment he said he would wait for her forever, Anna's brain seemed to turn off. She couldn't think coherently, she also wasn't sure if she was breathing. It was like those few words completely immobilized her and the reason why hit her suddenly. She cared for Oscar. More than just a friend, and she was just coming to realize she'd felt that way for a while without realizing it. Suddenly things made sense. Why she felt so happy to see him, why she wanted to do so much with him. Why did she not notice this sooner?
Suddenly, his holding her hand meant more to her than it did previously, which was saying a lot since it was the first time anyone held her hand. She shivered slightly, her grip on his hand tightening as she did so. She smiled at him, "Thank you," then her natural teasing came in, "Forever is a long time though. I hope I don't have to keep you waiting that long."
She didn't want to argue with Oscar, but at the same time she felt like his argument didn't make sense. If they didn't teach protection spells, it wasn't like people would forget that there were spells to hurt. There were always people out there who wanted to hurt others and not learning how to protect yourself was almost like putting a target on your back, asking them to attack you. She didn't want to say this to him, because she didn't want to really fight. She actually had no intention of it. She wanted to find a way to lighten the mood, to get this ... disagreement out of the way. She didn't want it to ruin everything. She shrugged, "There are always people who want to fight instead of get along," she agreed slowly. She couldn't think of anything else to say. She didn't want to defend Hogwarts, she didn't even care what he thought of her school at the moment, she just didn't want to be arguing with him any longer. Without even thinking about what she was doing, she laid her head on his shoulder and sighed, "I don't want to argue with you," she muttered softly. "Can we talk about something else?" She closed her eyes, even though she knew he couldn't see her face. Wait, what was she doing? She started to bite her lip when she realized that this time, she made the first move. What if he didn't like it?

Anna said that forever was a long time, and Oscar was inclined to agree, but that didn’t seem to matter, for one reason or other. He was certain that if he asked her to, Anna would wait for just as long, so it seemed silly to deny her that. “I know that it is a long time.” Oscar answered. “And while I hope it will not be necessary to wait, I think it is good for you to know that forever would not be so long, if I was waiting for you.” There were those pesky emotions again, making him say things that sounded so strange, and felt so real, and Anna…Anna was his friend. He couldn’t mess up the one friendship he had at Hogwarts for the sake of something as fleeting as a romantic relationship. All of Oscar’s romances were short, but his friendships were long, and the only thing he knew for certain about Anna was that he wanted to keep her in his life for as long as humanly possible. If that meant ignoring how he felt, then so be it.
Oscar nodded when Anna remarked that there were always going to be people who wanted to fight. That was the saddest truth of what it was to be human – there was always going to be conflict. “I don’t want to argue with you, either.” He agreed softly. Oscar moved closer to Anna, pressing every inch of his body against every inch of hers. “You should sleep.” He said after a moment. “It is getting late.” He didn’t want Anna to fall asleep when she was doing her official champion business or anything like that. “Like I said, I will wait forever for you. I can wait until morning.” Besides, there was going to be a whole horde of people waiting to laud her, and Oscar felt more than a little bit selfish for keeping Anna to himself for so long. Despite what he was saying, though, Oscar could bring himself to disentangle his finger’s from Anna’s. He felt selfish, but holding Anna’s hand felt good, and after all of the bad feelings that day, Oscar didn’t want to stop the one good one.

A part of Anna thought that she was imagining all the nice things he was saying to her. It was adorable and touching and she didn't know what to say. That she would wait for him also ... but then she would just be echoing what he said, which was ridiculous. She felt her hand squeeze his. "I think that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me," she told him. "You do know that I'm here for you if you ever need anything, right?" Where did that come from? It was true, but why did she say it? It had nothing to do with waiting or anything, but she already said it and there wasn't a way to take it back. Not that she wanted to. She just realized she feelings she had for him and didn't know how to react. It was only natural she would say things without thinking, wasn't it?
Oscar said he didn't want to fight with her and Anna smiled, though he couldn't see it. He moved closer and Anna felt so comfortable, warm and relaxed. She couldn't remember a time when she was so peaceful. "You should sleep." It was apparent that Oscar was serious, especially when he added on that it was getting late, but Anna couldn't help but chuckle a little. She lifted he head so she could look into his eyes once more. "I won't be going to sleep for a long time. You saw my housemates cheering tonight. They'll be partying all night long," she told him, her expression slightly apologetic and hoping it wouldn't make him remember why he was here in the first place. "Besides, they're really loud. I'd rather stay here with you for a while," she looked at him carefully, "Unless you need to go to bed, of course." She couldn't tell if he was tired. If he was, she wouldn't pressure him to stay.
There he went again, saying he would wait forever for her, even until morning. Anna tightened her grip on his hand. She didn't want to go and she didn't want him to go either. "Just a bit longer?" she asked in a whisper, silently pleading for him to agree.

Oscar smiled softly, hardly believing that he, of all people, was the one to say the nicest words to Anna Weasley. She had had seventeen years to hear pretty words said by people with voices that were no doubt prettier than his, in English that was no doubt infinitely better than his, and yet Oscar Gauthier was the one who said the nicest thing to her? “You need to get nicer friends, then.” He said, trying to hide his shock at that statement by smiling a little wider. His smile dropped almost instantly when Anna said that she was going to be there if he ever needed anything. Oscar needed a lot of things, actually, but the only thing that Anna could give him that was of any worth was the gift she was giving at that moment: her company and her time. And her smile. That was a gift to the world if there ever was such a thing. He considered saying the first thing that popped into his head – you are the only thing I need – but given the trajectory of their conversation, that didn’t seem right. Oscar just smiled, squeezing her hand. “Thank you.” He murmured to her, unsure of what else he could say, other than the obvious words that had almost fallen off his tongue by accident.
The Beauxbatons boy had to agree that his Hogwarts friend probably would not be sleeping much in the coming night. He could understand that – celebration was normal, when something so momentous happened to one of your friends. He didn’t think that the Beauxbatons celebration would be as big, if only because Emile was not particularly well liked, as far as Oscar could tell. Anna, though, seemed beloved by all, not the least of which were her housemates. “I do not need to go to bed.” Oscar asserted softly. “I am sure Beauxbatons celebrates, as well.” And from their carriage, they would also be able to hear the carousing from the Durmstang ship if it reached any appreciable volume. “A little longer will not hurt anyone, I suppose.” Oscar answered. He didn’t know what there was to talk about, but that didn’t matter. Sitting in silence with Anna was infinitely preferable to talking with anyone else.

Anna laughed and grinned when he said she needed nicer friends. "My friends are plenty nice. They just don't say things like that," she told him honestly. Really, she had plenty of friends that she was sure would be there for her if she ever needed them, but Anna didn't really like to talk about her problems. She preferred to listen and let others talk and let themselves vent. It was a rare occasion when Anna actually confessed her feelings to someone. She had a feeling that if Oscar ever asked, she wouldn't keep it from him. She nodded and squeezed his hand back when he thanked her. She didn't really think anything else needed to be said.
She glanced over at Oscar, relieved when he said he didn't need to leave. She didn't want him to, but she almost expected him to want to leave. She almost asked him why he didn't want to celebrate, but then it came to her- he was disappointed. Duh. After a little while, she laid her head back on his shoulder, mostly because she just wanted to be closer to him again.
She wanted to talk, to hear his accent, but she couldn't think of anything else to say. And he wasn't saying anything, so maybe he just wanted to sit there in silence. "What time is it?" she asked after an immeasurable amount of time. She didn't want to leave, but she didn't know what the rules were with curfew and stuff. Would she really get in trouble if she got caught? She hoped not, but at the same time, being here with Oscar was worth it. She'd get in trouble for more time with him.

Oscar nodded slowly when Anna said that she had friends that were nice, but didn’t say things like that. He could understand that – not everyone was good with words. Oscar wasn’t, normally, but Anna brought out a poet that he didn’t know was inside of him. She was one of the people that made it seem so easy to parcel out his feelings into things as small and trivial as words, because he knew that even if the words were small, she would feel the big emotions behind them. Anna laid her head on his shoulder, and Oscar rested his head on top of hers. It almost seemed easier to fall asleep here, sitting on a stone floor with Anna by his side, than it would be to fall asleep in his bed on the ship, alone and disappointed. The longer he thought about it, the more appealing the idea was. He was warm despite the fact that the Hogwarts hallways were normally drafty, since Anna was right next to him. Her head was a surprisingly good pillow even with the strange angle of his neck, and her breathing was soft and melodious, practically begging him to close his eyes. So he did. Oscar let everything slip into darkness, his breathing slowing and deepening, until dreams came to take him away.

Anna felt so peaceful. It was strange. She actually decided that she liked Oscar and she still felt comfortable around him. That never happened before! The moment she decided she liked someone was normally the moment when things just happened to go awkward with them. She really hoped that wouldn't happen with Oscar, but it didn't seem to be. Then he laid his head on hers and she felt even more comfortable. There was no way she was going to leave. She tried to stay awake, waited for him to answer her question about the time, but he didn't say anything. She blinked, still trying to stay awake, but his breathing was slow and deep and it soothed her. Before long, she was asleep
