At his question about how much further they'd have to go, Emmy responded that she'd never been before. He forced his smile to stay where it was and nodded. "Right. Sorry, I forgot that for a moment." He was trying to not complain. This was a side of Rory that most people didn't get to see and while it was better that it was Emmy- his best friend- he still didn't feel entirely comfortable with her seeing him this way. He was used to being calm and composed, not worried and shaking like he was now. A few seconds later, Rory jumped when he heard a screeching sound and the cart seemed to be slowing down. "Thank the heavens," he muttered under his breath, waiting until the cart came to a complete stop. He gestured for Emmy to get out first. After all, this was her vault. He left the cart, stretching his tense muscles and inwardly telling himself to calm down. Yes, they'd have to go in the cart again to get back out, but he was going to be fine. There was no reason he should be worrying as much as he was. He watched the goblin curiously.

Emmy just gave Rory a tired smile when he said that he forgot this was her first time to Gringotts. The experience was already more harrowing than she had expected it to be, between Rory’s nerves and her lie and the technical difficulty with the cart, and she was going to be glad to be able to leave the bank sooner rather than later. They got out of the cart when it finally, finally reached her vault. The goblin approached first, and then stroked one of his long fingers down some invisible line in the otherwise impenetrable wall. It melted away, revealing a vault that already had quite the stack of Galleons in it, presumably deposited from her currency exchange. Emmy had arranged with her publisher and the bank for her profits to be deposited directly into the vault. She would take what she needed when she needed it. Emmy clutched the objects she had been holding onto for the entire cart ride, unwilling to part with them so soon but also desperately wanting them to leave. She didn’t see any place in the vault to put them, so she just kneeled and set the pile of knick-knacks in the corner. “That’s all.” She told the goblin. Now they just had to make the journey back up.

Well ... to be honest it all felt extremely anticlimactic to Rory. Of course, the reason he came was for Emmy and he would do it again (despite the horrible experience in the cart) just for her. Still ... they took all that time coming down just to put a few items in her vault. Her vault which had stacks of Galleons in it. He caught a glimpse of the inside and then looked away, not wanting Emmy to think he was prying. How did she get so much money? Her family had never been extremely poor, but he didn't think she'd grown up with so much money. That wasn't his place though. He never should have looked into the vault. She moved into the vault, placing the things she'd carried where she wanted them. She came out saying that was all and Rory smiled at her, moving over and taking her hand encouragingly. Not romantically. She was his best friend, and that was that. She was in a new place though, so he was just trying to be encouraging. He gave her a small smile as he glanced over at the cart a little nervously. "You ready Emmy?" He asked, leading her to the carriage and gesturing that he was trying to help her in, afterwards releasing her hand so he could get in himself. Deep breaths, Rory. Deep breaths.

When Emmy got out of the vault, Rory took her hand, and she wondered if it was for her sake or for his. If they were going back into the cart, it was probably the latter, even if Rory thought that he was comforting her somehow in taking her hand. Rory asked if she was ready, and Emmy nodded. “Are you ready?” She asked, squeezing his hand slightly. The goblin was probably already done with them and all of the problems that had happened on their trip, but Emmy didn’t think that he would mind waiting a little longer if it meant that he wasn’t going to have a person having a mental breakdown in his cart again. The area by the vault wasn’t exactly the best place to calm down since it was cold and slightly damp and generally eerie, but at least they had their feet firmly planted on the ground.

Emmy asked if he was ready to get back into the cart and Rory gave a short nod with his head. He hated these things, but he was bracing himself for the return journey and hoping that it wouldn't be as bad as the ride down had been. Holding Emmy's hand helped a little, though he would never admit that to her. He refused to do anything that would make things weird between them. He released Emmy's hand and then climbed into the cart, taking deep breaths to make sure he didn't lose it again.
To Rory's great surprise, the ride up seemed to go much faster. While the cart still jolted and jostled uncomfortably, Rory was able to keep his composure and before he knew it, they'd arrived. He grinned at Emmy as the cart came to a stop. "Well apparently coming up is better than going down," he teased her lightly. "Sorry I made things so stressful, but I do appreciate you inviting me to come along." He didn't know if she'd want to do something else together or not, but he was glad they'd been able to spend so much time together, despite the difficult circumstances in the cart.

The journey back to the top level of Gringotts went much more quickly than the journey down, probably because the cart didn’t break down and they actually had an idea of how long the ride would be. Rory wasn’t gripping her hand or hyperventilating, both of which were good things in Emmy’s book. And after the ride down, they had needed a little bit of calm. Rory mentioned exactly what she was thinking as far as the return trip being better, and Emmy smiled, punching him lightly on the shoulder. “I told you we’d get out of it alive.” Emmy said teasingly. Even if she wasn’t a clairvoyant, she still got a kick out of a good ‘I told you so’. She was going to have to find a way to break it to Rory that she wasn’t a clairvoyant, though… That as a problem for future her, Emmy decided. “It was no problem, Rory. Thanks for coming with me.” Emmy said, smiling again. “If you excuse me, I have to run…” Emmy said apologetically. She was certain that someone, somewhere, was writing her an angry owl about a missed meeting, so being ready to receive it and apologize immediately was for the better. Emmy raised her hand in a wave before exiting the bank with a spring in her step.
