Jamie asked if he wanted a warming charm and Edmund froze for a second. How was he supposed to say no to that? He hadn't meant he wanted to be warm right now, he was liking the feeling of being wet. "Uhhh ... no, you don't have to worry about that. I'm fine. I kind of like the cold." Ha! Like that was going to make any sense. All he was doing now was confusing the person next to him, probably. Ed's mouth fell open when she said his face looked funny. He knew she was teasing, but he didn't want to just laugh outright at it. He fought to keep a straight face, but after a second he failed. "That's not what I meant and you know it!" he replied, not arguing back on purpose. She laughed and tossed a rock and Ed followed her example, not even bothering to count it before turning to her and saying. "I win! Mine went further." He didn't really know if that was true or not, but he felt like saying it anyway.

Jamie didn’t push it when Edmund said that she didn’t have to worry about a Warming Charm. He had his own reasons for being out in the rain, she knew, and she didn’t want to force him to do anything that he didn’t want to do. And liking the cold wasn’t all that uncommon, either. “If you change your mind or want me to dry you off before we go in, just let me know.” Jamie said with a small smile. Normally she let herself get drenched but dried off before going into the castle so that she wouldn’t be dripping water everywhere, especially on her bed. “Oh, I know, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t funny.” Jamie said, sticking her tongue out at Edmund once she was sure that he wasn’t offended. She liked Ed a lot better when he was willing to let loose a little, instead of always being so uptight and angsty. “Oh, so the competition starts now?” Jamie teased. “I wasn’t informed.” Jamie told him, eyes twinkling. “Rematch?”

Ed nodded when Jamie said she could do the warming charm before they went in. Honestly, he'd probably go in with her and then come back out a short while later. He was all caught up on homework and really just didn't want to be with people. Being with Jamie was different. She wasn't pushing him to talk about things that he didn't want to talk about. She was just ... helping him relax. He rolled his eyes when she said that she was funny. "Yeah yeah, you're hilarious," he answered sarcastically, but he was still smiling a little. "The competition is always on," he answered with a shrug. "Sure, but be prepared to lose," he said, not really meaning it. But it was a lot more fun to pretend to be confident.

Jamie rolled her eyes at Edmund when he teased her about how funny she was - implying, of course, that she wasn't funny at all. That was fine by her, because Jamie honestly didn't know how to describe her sense of humor, or if she even had one at all. Edmund said that the competition was always on, and Jamie chuckled at that, which was good, because she needed to throw a stone, and laughter was a pre-requisite. She chucked one of the stones that Edmund had given to her, watching it skip five times. It wasn't her best throw, but it wasn't her worst, either, so she was going to be happy with that. "I'm letting you win." She informed him, in case he was getting any ideas.

Jamie seemed to think his teasing was alright, which was good because Ed really didn't want to make her upset after she was doing so much to help him be happier. He smiled when she laughed about his comment about competition. Good. He rolled his eyes when she said she was letting him win. "Uh-huh. Sure you are," he teased before he pulled out his own rock and threw it. Nine skips. He grinned at her. "I thought you said you were competitive, Jamie," he smirked, unable to help himself.

Jamie wrinkled her nose at Edmund when he expressed disbelief at her letting him win their little competition. She snorted when he repeated her earlier comment about being competitive. “I am, about things that matter.” She replied with a laugh, sending another stone skipping. Eleven skips. “I hate to break it to you, Edmund, but no one will know which one of us to believe if we both insist that we were the winner of this competition.” It wasn’t like either of them were untrustworthy people. If anything, more people would be more likely to believe Jamie just because she had more friends than Edmund did.

Edmund let his jaw drop when Jamie said she was competitive about things that mattered. He knew he was being ridiculous, but out here in the rain, where hardly anyone could see him, it made sense. "Are you saying that skipping rocks doesn't matter?" he asked in an offended voice, putting a hand over his heart as though she wounded him. He should just let it go, but he needed some lightheartedness at the moment. Then she said that people wouldn't know who to believe. "Then we'll just have to prove it to them," he told her with a small glare at her. Then he smiled, "And we both know who will win that." Not necessarily, but if they did end up skipping rocks in front of a bunch of people, it would at least be a fun experience.

Jamie chuckled at Edmund’s mock affront at her implying that skipping rocks didn’t matter. “In the grand scheme of life, I don’t think so.” She teased, sticking to her guns despite his acting as if she was a horrible person for thinking so. Jamie tossed another rock at the surface of the lake while Edmund said something about proving it to people. “I don’t think many people will be pleased to have to sit and watch others skip rocks.” Jamie pointed out. Skipping rocks was something that was fun to do yourself, but not as fun to watch others do. Honestly, only she and Edmund really cared. Jamie rolled her eyes when Ed said that they both knew who would win that. Edmund was consistently better than Jamie, but she had had some good throws, so she wasn’t sure anything was a guarantee. Jamie reached for another stone to skip, and found that she had used up the pile that Edmund had lent her, as well. “I guess this means it’s time for me to head back.” Jamie said apologetically. “You coming?” Edmund had been wandering alone before the two had met, so it was possible that he wanted to stay outside a little longer without Jamie.

Edmund rolled his eyes. He wasn't really annoyed, but still playing along with the game. Jamie was still skipping rocks, but even though he had a few left in his pocket, Ed was taking a short break and just looking out at the water. He shrugged, "I guess you're right. There are more exciting things to watch than rock skipping." Though personally, Ed wouldn't mind watching people skip rocks. That was probably just a personality quirk for him. He got distracted looking out at the lake, so he jumped slightly when Jamie said she was going back. He looked at her, momentarily confused when she asked if he was coming. He shook his head, "No, but thanks for skipping with me. I'll see you later," he said before turning and strolling in the other direction, still in the rain. Once he was alone again he'd probably skip more rocks. He just needed more alone time, more time to try and distract himself. ---the end--- @jamie
