Oscar crossed his arms over his chest when Anna asked what would happen if she did ignore him. He was calculating his answer to have the maximum effect on her, and eventually settled on the one he gave. “I would pout.” He answered, just as simply as he had answered before. The thing with Anna was that she would do a lot to get a rise out of him – that was how their relationship had started, and how it was going to continue to go, though the teasing had changed in nature. If Oscar showed that she wasn’t going to get as strong of a reaction off of him, he was hopeful that she wouldn’t actually go through with her plan of ignoring him. Oscar probably would have said that he was going to ignore her back, except for the fact that he never would have actually been able to ignore Anna, as their previous attempt at being quiet together had proved. She had a stronger will than he did, and he definitely didn’t want to go head-to-head in an ignoring contest.

He seemed to be trying to figure out what he should do if she decided to ignore him and ended up telling her that he would pout. Well that was boring, but not entirely out of character. She could easily see him pouting and trying to change her mind so that she didn't ignore him. Anna gave a small laugh, smiling at Oscar. "I guess it's a good thing that I'm not going to do it then," she told him. The idea of teasing him by ignoring him was an interesting one, and she might do it later, but not right now. "I think I can have a lot more fun not ignoring you," she explained, winking at him.

Oscar smirked at Anna when she said that she wasn’t going to ignore him. “I knew it.” He said, not even bothering to hide the cockiness in his voice when he did. That alone might be a reason for Anna to go back on her decision and try to ignore him, but Oscar couldn’t help it if he knew his girlfriend well enough to know that she wasn’t good at not paying attention to him. When Anna made a comment about having more fun not ignoring him, Oscar let out a loud laugh. “I think you can, too.” He said, winking right back at her. “So, since we have already exhausted our sitting in silence option, what do you propose we do?” Oscar said. He didn’t know what kind of activities were library appropriate… not that he would mind being forced out of a place where all there was to do was read books and learn.

Anna lifted her eyebrows at Oscar's smirk. "Don't make me change my mind," she threatened. She could, but she wasn't going to unless he really drove her to it. He laughed at her comment and then winked back at her. Anna's cheeks were hurting from smiling so much, but she couldn't seem to help it around Oscar. He made her relax and feel happy and she loved spending her time with him. He asked what they should do since they obviously couldn't sit in silence and Anna thought for a moment. "Hmmm ... you could tell me funny stories or jokes," she suggested, really having no idea of what they could do with one another. Teasing him was enough for her, so she was content with what she was doing now. "Do you have any ideas of what we should do?" Maybe he had something more interesting

Oscar shook his head a little when Anna said that he shouldn’t be trying to get her to change her mind. He knew that she wouldn’t. he had been right about what she was going to do all afternoon, so why not be a little overconfident? If things went badly, well… he and Anna had argued before, and they had turned out just fine. Anna suggested that he tell her funny jokes, and Oscar snorted at that. “I am not a funny person.” He said shortly. Anna had to know that by now. He didn’t spend his time thinking of jokes or other ways to make people laugh. Besides, all of the jokes he knew were in French, and since he had failed epically at teaching Anna the language, none of them would make any sense. “You should tell me jokes.” Oscar fired back, since he had a better grasp of English than she did at French, so they could both understand what actually made the joke funny.

Oscar said that he wasn't a funny person and Anna lifted an eyebrow. "I'm not sure how much I believe that ... you're pretty good at getting me to laugh," she teased. Then she chuckled as a memory came to mind, "Like that time you ate a leaf." She did it too, but that was beside the point. Oscar started that whole thing.Anna made a face at Oscar when he said that she should tell him at jokes. She was bad at them! She rarely got the punch line right and almost always messed them up somehow. She shook her head, "Oh, believe me, you do not want to hear me telling any jokes," she told him firmly. She knew that Oscar would probably just laugh at her bad jokes, but now that he asked for some, none were coming to mind, which was just as well because she didn't want to mess one up in front of him.

Oscar shook his head when Anna said that he was good at making her laugh. That was true, actually, but being able to make someone laugh and being funny were two totally different things. He hadn’t eaten the leaf because he had wanted to make her laugh, but because it was a lifelong dream of his to know what a leaf tasted like. Anna just so happened to find it funny when he found out that leaves did not taste anything like he had imagined they would. Despite telling him that he was funny, Anna insisted that she wasn’t. By her logic, Anna was even funnier than Oscar was, because she always managed to make him laugh. “Oh, but I do!” He retorted. “A compromise: I will tell you a joke, if you will tell me one.” That way they didn’t have to continue arguing about whether or not they were funny when both of them obviously didn’t think they were.

It was apparent that neither of them thought they were funny enough to be telling jokes, but Anna was surprised that Oscar didn't argue his point. All he said was that he did think she was funny. She started to shake her head, but before she could say anything, he suggested a compromise. Her eyes narrowed a little as she thought about it and then nodded. "Alright, but you should go first," she suggested, smiling winningly at him to try and non-verbally convince him to agree. Why not have him go first? That way she could gauge the type of jokes he liked, even though she was pretty sure she would mess hers up somehow.

Anna agreed to his idea, but with the stipulation that he went first, and Oscar shook his head emphatically. Anna was good at convincing him to do most things, but this? He was not going to budge, not when he was certain that Anna’s joke was going to outshine his no matter what. “It was my idea.” Oscar pointed out. “So I should choose who gets to go first.” That wasn’t the best logic that Oscar had ever used, but most of the squabbles he got in with Anna weren’t logical in the first place. They tended just to gripe at each other until one of them gave in – normally Oscar, since Anna could be much more stubborn than him the majority of the time. “And I choose you.” Oscar finished pointedly, in case that hadn’t been clear in the construction of his argument. He leaned back in his chair. “I am waiting.” He said, cracking a smile.

Oscar was shaking his head, which was not a good sign. Anna's logic made perfect sense to her. The idea was his, so he should go first, but apparently he had other ideas. He said that since it was his idea he got to choose who went first, and he wanted it to be her. Anna grimaced at him, not liking that idea, but also not wanting to really get into an argument about jokes. "You would choose me," she whined as she thought. What kind of a joke would she tell? "Alright, fine. I'll go, but you can't make fun of me for my joke, because I can almost guarantee that it's going to be very lame," she announced, watching him carefully to make sure he wasn't going to make fun of her. When she was satisfied, she took a deep breath as she thought. Oscar was smiling at her and Anna shook her head as a joke popped into her mind. This wasn't going to be as funny as she wished it would be. She sighed and then shrugged. "Okay. Why did the cookie go to the hospital?" she asked, smiling a little. The joke may not be very funny, but it was still smile-worthy from her book.

Oscar gave Anna a wicked grin when she whined about him choosing her. He was going to point out that that was the pint of declaring himself the chooser, but he figured Anna already knew that, and rubbing it in wouldn’t do anything to help their currently (jokingly) contentious relationship. Anna agreed to go first, which only made Oscar’s Cheshire grin grow wider. He hadn’t expected much more pushback for him, not with his pseudo-logical narrative about why he ought to choose, but Oscar still did love getting what he wanted. Anna asked the lead-in to her joke, and surprisingly enough, instead of having to ask her the answer, a possibility popped into his head. “Because he was feeling crummy?” Oscar asked, batting his eyelashes at Anna so that she wouldn’t be too mad if he was correct and ruined her joke. Oscar wasn’t sure if that actually was the answer that she was looking for… but if she wasn’t, then it was still a pretty great joke! Oscar was proud of himself for that one, but he was going to wait for Anna’s response before launching into a joke of his own… mostly so he had more time to think about it.

At his grin, Anna made a face at Oscar. It was obvious he won and trying to argue would get them nowhere, but she also hated giving in so easily. When his smile widened, she elbowed him in the ribs. She couldn't just take that! Rather, she wouldn't. Not when she was sure she could find some way to retaliate. She started out her joke, but instead of saying "what?" like he was supposed to, Oscar gave the answer. Anna's jaw dropped in surprise and then she glared at him. "You ruined my joke!" Really ... she just didn't want to admit that he was right, but she was pretty sure he already knew that. He started batting his eyelashes at her and Anna groaned, reaching over to push his shoulder now. "How did you guess that?" she moaned. Really, she meant to keep that question to herself. She didn't even realize she said it out loud. She folded her arms on the table in front of her and then slumped forward so her head landed on her arms with a soft thunk. "Your turn," she muttered, pretending to be more upset about his guess than she really was.

Anna loudly exclaimed that he had ruined her joke, and Oscar just continued to bat his eyelashes at her, smiling like the cat that got the canary. It was rather fun to see her riled up, especially over something so small. “What can I say? I am a genius.” Oscar responded when Anna asked how he had guessed the punchline of the joke. Honestly, Oscar wasn’t quite sure how he had immediately made the connection, but cookies (and the words related to them) were one of the few English words that he was intimately familiar with, due to his love of sweets. He had also learned the word for grape juice early on, though he doubted Anna knew any jokes on that subject. Oscar had been so busy with patting himself on the back that he had hardly stopped to think about what his own joke was going to be. He furrowed his brow for a moment or two, until the sole English joke that he knew popped into his head. “What do you call a fake noodle?” He asked, eyes sparkling. Oscar really hoped Anna didn’t know the answer to his joke the way he had known the answer to hers – that would just be boring.

Oscar was so proud of himself for getting the joke and Anna was proud of him for that, but miffed about it nonetheless. Still, she couldn't stay annoyed at him for long. All it took was a few seconds of him smiling at her and the corners of her lips turned up. He could be so silly when he wanted, but he was hers and that's what she cared about. "Yeah yeah," she mumbled when he called himself a genius. Then she winked at him to show she was teasing. She didn't want him to think she was being a bad sport, though he'd probably tease her about that no matter what. Then he seemed to be trying to think of a joke and Anna waited patiently. Her eyebrows furrowed a little at the question as her mind raced. A fake noodle? She had nothing, but she really didn't want to admit that, so she tried to think of something. Eventually she gave up. "I don't know," she admitted grudgingly, her mood lifted somewhat by the happiness in her boyfriend's expression. She couldn't really be upset when he was so cheerful.

Oscar rolled his eyes at Anna when she only admitted that he was a genius begrudgingly. She was the Triwizard Champion, bringing honor and glory to her entire school, and she wouldn’t even let him have this one victory? Oscar wasn’t actually angry about it, since he knew that Anna was competitive and having the punchline of her joke revealed would somehow ruin the competition for her, but he was mildly amused by the whole thing. That amusement only increased when Anna pondered Oscar’s returning riddle for a while, and couldn’t come up with anything. They had finally found something that Oscar was better at than Anna! (There were plenty of things that they were equally good at, or that Oscar was only better at by virtue of studying and time, but few things that Oscar was naturally talented at that Anna didn’t seem to have a knack for as well.) “An im-pasta!” Oscar said, smacking the table with his open palm as he let out a long peal of laughter. Even though he had just memorized the joke from a book somewhere, Oscar couldn’t help but feel a swell of pride at his stellar punchline delivery. An impasta! Oh, he was good.
