Dustin watched as the rest of the players picked their various pieces, smirking slightly when Yadiel picked the top hat. Naturally their Captain had to be the most dapper one, even when they were only playing a game. Evelyn picked the car, which was also rather fitting considering she was the only one of the people assembled who had probably ridden in a car with any sort of regularity. Before Mina picked her piece, she continued to heckle Dustin and Evelyn about how butterbeers weren’t real beers. Dustin was sure that they must have had some alcohol content – they had definitely gotten him buzzed when he had chugged three on his first Hogsmeade visit – but Mina was probably right in saying that there was no way that they’d get drunk off of them now that they were adults. He refrained from mentioning that unlike her, he wasn’t here to get drunk. Mina reached into the box and found a penguin, and Dustin furrowed his brows. He didn’t think his Monopoly game had a penguin piece. “Let Ev go first, since she’s never played.” Dustin suggested, even though getting to go first didn’t really grant an advantage in the game, as far as he was concerned. Dustin passed the dice to Evelyn, and glanced at Yadiel. “If that’s okay with you.” He assumed it was okay with Mina, since she had suggested Evelyn going first, but it was always better to make sure no one was going to throw a fit. Not that Yadi would, but better safe than sorry.

Everyone else else quickly picked their pieces and got them settled on the board and the game was about to start. Ms. Mina was still complaining about Evelyn and Dustin not having adequate drinks and he wasn't going to push the two of them to drink if they didn't want to but he was okay to sit back and watch her try to get them to drink because he knew their wills were strong and they could be stubborn, just based on what he'd experienced with them over the past few weeks. And even now a little bit. Dustin handed the dice over to Evelyn, telling her to go first. "Perfectly okay with that as long as you all don't mind me being banker" he commented with a nod before pulling the rest of the box over to himself and leaving no real room for argument. Even though he would hand it over if one of them made a real fuss about it. He just wanted to get the game started. He began to shell out the proper amounts of the paper money that was set by the rules of the game. He'd played enough that he didn't need to check to make sure that it was correct. Evelyn was new to the game and he didn't know what kind of experience she'd had with board games she'd had before so he decided to explain the basics of the game a little bit. "So you just want to roll the dice and move your piece around the board. If you land on a space that is open and you have the will and want to buy it, you can. If you land on a space that someone has bought, you'll pay whoever owns it. If you lose all of your money and assets, you're out." he explained concisely. He didn't know how much information was too much when she was just starting out so he felt that was a good enough explanation.

Ev didn't respond to Mina's comments about drinking. She did seem to be directing them at Dustin, though, so that was fine, right? Either way, she wasn't planning on answering. Then Mina pointed at her, asking who was going first and Ev froze, uncertain. Would they want her to go first if she didn't know what she was doing? She turned her eyes to Dustin and Yadiel, not saying anything but waiting for them to answer the girl. Dustin suggested that she should go first, if it was alright with their captain and Ev nodded slightly, trying to show that she was willing to go first if that's what everyone wanted. Why was she so nervous all of a sudden? Yadiel said he didn't mind as long as he was banker. He started giving out the money from the game (which is what Ev assumed was the banker's job) and then started to explain the game a little. Ev listened closely and nodded at the end. That didn't seem too complicated. Roll, decide if you want the place or not, pay if someone else owns it. She could do this. She took the dice and rolled, moving her piece and landing on the railroad, which she decided to buy. Why not? With everyone coming behind, maybe someone would land on it and then have to pay her. "I'll take it," she said, handing over the money for the place. "Okay, I'm done now, right?" she asked, looking up at her companions with a bit of a hesitant smile. mina pandora oliveira @dustin @yadi (dunno how detailed we wanna be with the game ... so I just started)

@dustin @yadi @evelyn Mina was slightly disappointed that she wasn’t going first. Then she remembered that she had butted in on their game and basically told them she was playing. That meant they probably had already picked the turns for the game, and she was simply a late addition to it all. They had been nice enough to let her sit down and join, so she shut her mouth for the next few minutes and watched the other three interact instead. “That’s fine with me,” she responded quickly to Dustin’s question, returning to her silent vigil by placing her bottle of beer to her lips and sipping it slowly. The long-haired guy offered to be the banker, and also followed through by explaining the details of the game to Evelyn. Mina didn’t realize that she needed the refresher as well; it had been a few years since she had last played Monopoly semi-consciously. She was pretty sure the last time had been turned into a drinking game. Take a shot every time someone landed on an owned space and couldn’t play. She had purposely run out of money early in the game so that she could drink more. Her liver still didn’t like her for that one. This time would be a little easier, at least for now. This game was going to take a while since Evelyn didn’t know how to play. Mina watched her go first and buy the railroad along the first side. Those were always good places to buy, since having more than one raised the prices and there was one smack-dab in the middle of each row. “Yup! All done,” Mina finally broke her silence before scooping up the dice and pushing them towards Dustin. “Your turn now.”

Dustin was beyond okay with Yadi being the banker. His least favorite part about Monopoly was all of the setup that had to go into playing it, because that always seemed to be people’s excuse as to why they couldn’t play the game, but the banker was in charge of handling all the logistics, which meant Dustin could just focus on trouncing everyone else in the game. And having fun, but one of those things was more important than the others, and fun wasn’t it. Yadiel gave Evelyn a crash course in Monopoly, explaining the basic logistics as well as the point of the game. Evelyn took her turn, buying the Reading Railroad, and Dustin gave her an encouraging smile to show her that was a good move. Dustin always bought everything that he landed on when he played Monopoly, unless he absolutely couldn’t. Mina passed him the dice, and Dustin rolled. He sighed when he saw that he had landed on the Chance space. Not getting property early in the game was a sure way to lose. As he was preparing himself for shame, Dustin turned to Mina. “So, the rest of us play Quidditch for a living. What do you do?” He assumed that Mina’s full time job wasn’t drinking – and if it was, he needed to find out who was paying her to do it. Dustin glanced at the Chance card in his hand, and a Cheshire grin spread across his face. “Guess who gets to buy Boardwalk?” He sang, showing them the ‘Advance to Boardwalk’ card before gleefully moving his piece and handing Yadiel the money needed to purchase the deed, alongside the dice so that Yadi could take his turn.

No one objected so Yadi took over as banker for the game, setting up things the way he liked them with the bills stacked orderly and in increasing increments. Then the game started, everyone gearing up to take their turns. Evelyn was first up. She rolled and landed on the first railroad from the go position, lucky move. She gave him the money to purchase the property, which he had to admit himself was a smart move. It wasn't smart to buy up every property you landed on but there were a few spots that you were better off having, if only for bargaining chips later. Dustin was next and, with help from Ms. Oliveira, he took the dice and rolled. The kid got lucky too, he ended up landing on a chance spot and advancing to Boardwalk. Yadi didn’t really react outwardly as he took the offered money for the purchase but he knew the game was automatically made more interesting with someone gaining that property so soon. Luckily enough, he couldn’t really do much damage without owning Park Place too and Yadi didn’t think he would get it. Dustin had asked Ms. Oliveira about her occupation and, as he waited on her answer, he scooped up the dice and offered them to her, taking a sip of his drink. He was normally quiet when others were around but this quiet was strategy planning. He wasn't itching to win or anything but he figured if Dustin would brag if the kid beat him too badly so he at least wanted to put some sort of effort into the game. Considering it was only the first round though, there wasn't much for him to do.

Dustin smiled at her when Ev bought the railroad piece, so she figured it was a semi-good move to make. She thought she understood the concept of the game. Buy as much as you can and try to take over the board by making other pay when they land on your spots. Sounded like fun. Dustin asked Mina where she worked and Ev smiled to herself, already knowing the answer the other girl would give but not about to answer for her. There was no need. He got all excited about ... Boardwalk, moving his piece there and buying it. Ev figured it was an important piece or something, but didn't ask anything. Ev waited for Mina to go, mostly just watching the others interact. It would probably be easier for her to figure out the game that way, after all. She could just see how the others handled the game. Things like, whether they bought every property they landed on or if they were picky about which ones they bought. She took a drink of her butterbeer while she watched. mina pandora oliveira@dustin @yadi (sorry I took ages guys)

@dustin @yadi @evelyn As the haze that had fallen over her while drinking began to lift, Mina quickly realized what a mistake playing this game with the Quidditch players was. They were fine people, and interesting at that, but sitting in a bar playing a board game was equal parts boring and depressing. And only the long-haired dude was actually drinking something remotely alcoholic. At least she thought he was the only one. Trying to process conversations and the economics of Monopoly all while juggling a drink was nigh impossible, and she started spiraling downhill fast. Nothing was worse than losing a solid drunken buzz and realizing that the party wasn’t the party she thought it to be. This one was probably only fun for anyone with obligations or who didn’t know what going out with friends was really about. Since Mina liked to consider herself a connoisseur of drinks and bars, her definition of a good time was being rearranged each time a new turn began. Luckily Monopoly was one of those games where she could easily manipulate her own tide of the game. A few very rash, stupid decisions were made in the first few die rolls to put her in a precarious position pertaining to her pay. There wasn’t much left in her other drink that she had brought along, and it was nowhere near strong enough to get her through the entirety of the game. She couldn’t keep doing this for the rest of the day. Having already lost her few properties she had purchased at the beginning, Mina tossed her final roll, which ended with her having to give up what little remained of her in-game bank. “Guess I’m a little rusty,” she laughed, finishing off the rest of the final drink. “Great fun, but I have things to do, places to be, all that fun stuff. Good luck for the remainder of the season,” waving her hand at the group, she scooped up her jacket and teetered away from their table and out the front door of the Three Broomstricks. [Mina End]

Dustin never got the chance to have his question answered, because Mina quickly seemed to bore of them, and seemed to be trying to bail as quickly as possible without actually having to pick up and leave them and put the Quidditch players in the position of needing to restart the game. Either that, or she was really bad at Monopoly. Dustin didn’t think even his younger sisters would make the dumb mistakes that Mina made with her money, and Dustin wondered if she was that irresponsible with her own cash, or if Mina was just really drunk and not wanting to play. If it was the former, then Dustin worried for Mina, he really did. Dustin scooped the last of Mina’s money over to himself, since she had landed on one of his properties to go bankrupt. Dustin cocked his head at Ev and Yadi. “You know, I thought Monopoly would be a lot more fun than this.” It was extremely competitive in his household, but he thought maybe that was just the bonus of being related to each other, and there being seven of them to compete, not just four. It was also possible that Dustin was idealizing his memories of his sisters, which seemed to be happening more and more now that they were still in school and he was out of it.

The dice started rolling and things started going a bit faster. Evelyn was learning pretty fast and doing pretty well. Dustin was dominating, as expected considering the two of them were the only avid players of the game. He was doing okay though he wasn't really trying too hard. He was banker, he never tried too hard when he was banker. Mina was the most surprising out of all of them, though he guess he shouldn't have been too surprised because of her state of inebriation. Her pile of money dwindled quickly, as well as the amount of alcohol she had left. The look on her face changed from one of drunkenness to one of boredom and he couldn't tell if it was because she was running out of drink or because she was sincerely bored of the game. He had to admit that the gameplay was a bit drier than he was used to but he often played with Lucia and playing with her came with many more shouts of excitement. Rounds came and went and pretty soon Dustin was taking the last of Mina's money after she landed on one of his own properties. She made comment about having places to be so she got up and left. Yadi felt a bit better about it because she seemed to have sobered up a bit so she wasn't in danger any longer. He gave a quick wave after her; she ran off so fast it was all he could give. He finished off what was his second firewhiskey and nodded at Dustin's words. "It's been less competitive. Pretty odd considering how competitive we are on the pitch. he replied. He was going to have to rethink how to go about having another one of these things. Maybe he would have to plan it better and make sure everyone's schedule was clear so they would have more of the team their too.

As they played the game, Mina was playing recklessly. It took a while for Ev to think that maybe the girl didn't want to play anymore. Honestly, she wasn't too surprised. The drunk girl seemed to want to have fun, and their small, quiet group wasn't quite the sort of "fun" that the other girl was probably looking for. She smiled and gave a soft laugh when Dustin said he thought this game would be a lot more fun. Honestly, she was enjoying herself, since it was a game that had a bit to do with strategy. However, she wasn't doing particularly well at all. Ev felt like this was partially because she was new to the game, whereas the others weren't. She shrugged at her captain's mention of them not being so competitive here. "It's easy to be competitive when I have a bat in my hand. Fake money though ..." she trailed off as she rolled and landed on a piece of property that she already owned. Well that was lucky. She looked up, "Maybe I'll be more competitive the next time I play this game." Honestly, she didn't know when- if ever- that would, be but understanding the rules and how it worked would definitely make her feel more competitive. She was still learning the ropes, so she didn't really feel the need to be competitive.

Yadiel said that the game was less competitive than he was used to, which Dustin took to be an agreement to his comment about how it wasn’t as fun as he had expected it to be. “I think it’s a lot more fun when you’re playing against your siblings.” He commented. And of course, everyone knew how many siblings he had. The ever-changing alliances in the Bainbridge household meant that every game of Monopoly was a little different, depending on who was mad at whom on any particular day. Evelyn commented that it was easier for her to be a competitive when she had a bat in her hand, and he cracked a smile. “Maybe we should just let you smash people instead of taking their money.” He teased. “Or, we could play with real money.” It wasn’t like any of them were poor, with their Quidditch careers and all, but Dustin didn’t think his suggestion that they play with real money would be well-received. Maybe they were rich, but Dustin didn’t fancy losing hundreds of Galleons in a Monopoly game. “Do you just want to declare me the winner and be done with it?” Dustin teased. He loved winning enough that he needed to stipulate that he had won the game before agreeing to quit it.

"Don’t know about playing with siblings but playing with Lucia is less competition and more her accusing me of cheating," he replied to Dustin’s words with a smile on his face, thinking of his daughter. He was an only child so he’d never had that experience. Playing with Lucia always was always fun for him though. Of course he never played the game seriously with her either but he made sure he was fair. He was pretty certain he had allowed her to win more times than he’d won. Evelyn mentioned it being easier for her to be competitive with her beater’s bat in her hand. It made sense, not just for the fact that she had her bat but also because she genuinely enjoyed Quidditch. She was new to the game so he was sure she had a harder time with it considering she was learning as she went. Monopoly wasn’t a hard game to grasp per se but it was difficult to strategize when it was your first time playing. It didn’t seem as if she didn’t enjoy the game though, which made him feel a little better about the game choice and the choice of having a game night at all. Watching as Dustin slipped into an easy banter with the beater made a bit of relief pour through him. They were less awkward now than they had been when they’d first arrived. Maybe there was hope for them yet. He’d still been a little worried for the two of them, thinking that the rift between them would stick. Even though that didn’t mean things were automatically well, maybe they’d be able to see that they could go back to how they’d been before. And maybe he could stop being worried about them. Yadi shook his head then at Dustin’s suggestion though not in opposition. He had more money than he knew how to spend so playing monopoly wouldn’t break him. However, he didn’t think it was a good idea for them to gamble in such a public space. Evelyn had taken her turn already as they spoke. "Evelyn should he take his turn or is he the winner. Is he actually winning the game right now?" he took a look over the board and then a look at how much money everyone seemingly had in their hands.

Ev nodded, but didn't say anything when Dustin said that it was more fun playing against siblings. What could she say to that? She didn't have any siblings so she really couldn't know whether or not it was more fun, she could only imagine. Still, she assumed Dustin was right. She smiled and chuckled a little when Yadiel responded, talking about playing with his daughter and how she accused him of cheating. She liked the image in her mind of her captain playing board games with his little girl. Dustin suggested she smash people instead of taking their money and her grin widened. "Are you giving me permission?" she teased him back. She missed teasing Dustin like this. She wrinkled her nose when he suggested real money. She wasn't good enough with this game to want to do that. Ev laughed again when Dustin said they should just declare him the winner and then end the game. Her captain asked for her opinion and Ev shrugged, "I don't know this game enough to know who's winning," she said honestly, rolling her eyes. "But if we want to be done now, I'm fine with that." She grinned and waited to see what Dustin and Yadiel would say to that. It was interesting what a good mood she was in right now, probably because things seemed to be going more smoothly between her and Dustin. Maybe this game night was worth it, even though she was definitely losing the game.

Dustin let out a loud laugh when Yadiel said that when he played the game with his daughter, it wasn’t so much competitive as it was her accusing him of cheating. “There’s plenty of that, too.” Of course, in the Bainbridge household, there was probably a little bit of cheating… but none of it counted as cheating if you didn’t get caught, hence why there was a lot of accusations thrown. It was better to accuse someone and be wrong than not accuse them and have them end up winning the game via sleights of hand. Of course, his Hufflepuff sisters would probably not do anything of the sort. They were too good and pure, or whatever the hell Hufflepuffs were supposed to be. That was why Dustin enjoyed playing with Yadi, who was a Slytherin – he knew the man would do anything to get ahead, because that was kind of the Slytherin mantra. However, unlike most Slytherins, Yadi didn’t seem to think it necessary to stomp on other people’s emotions to get where he wanted. Dustin winced a little at the thought, not wanting to be reminded of Vi.
“Most money and most deeds means winning.” Dustin explained to Evelyn. Then, to prove his point, he picked up a handful of his property deeds – including his beloved Boardwalk – in one hand, and a fistful of the fake money in another. Dustin thought that he deserved this win!
