She liked the idea, pulling him along toward the lake and smiling at him as she did so. He couldn't help but smile back at her. "Well, I guess I can try to find some pretty good ones for you. We'll have to see what we find." He would probably give her a really good one and keep a good one for himself. When it came to skipping rocks, Ed was actually pretty competitive. It was something he loved, because it reminded him of his dad. Growing up, his father often took him on trips to skip rocks and it became their thing. Addi knew this, of course. She knew everything about him, of course. That's what best friends were for. Still, he was glad that she wanted to skip rocks. "Alright, let's see who can find the most good rocks," he said with a small laugh when they arrived at the edge of the Lake.

He said he could try to fins some good ones, that they'd have to see what they found and she bit her lip, nodding excitedly. They made it to the lake and he laughed, suggesting that they see who can find the most good ones. "Okay!" Addi liked a challenge, that already made her feel a bit better. She released his hand so she could get moving on looking for nice, round and flat rocks that would get them the shape and weight they needed for good skipping. Ed's dad had taught him which were the best and Ed had in turn taught her, so it wasn't too long until she had a decent amount held up in her robes, "I think I've got some good ones, Ed," she announced, glancing over to see how he was coming along. "What about you?" she was sure he had magnificent ones, as usual.

Edmund was glad that Addi seemed about as excited about this as he was. She agreed to his idea of a race to find the best rocks and he laughed as he started searching. It wasn't hard to find good rocks here, even though Edmund skipped rocks quite frequently as a general rule. He'd never been unable to find good rocks. He decided to search until Addi said she was done, sticking his favorite rocks in his pocket. He laughed when she said she had some good ones. "Me too. Are you ready for this Addi," he said, quirking his eyebrows at her teasingly. "Ladies first," he suggested with a smile.

He said he had found some good ones and asked if she was ready and she narrowed her eyes, giving a nod, accepting the challenge. "Alright..." she stepped forward as he announced the 'ladies first' and she took a deep breath, taking out her first rock. He held it up to him to show him, holding it tightly between her pointer and thumb finger. "Flat, round and smooth. Just like you taught me," she said firmly. Then, she changed the position of how she was holding the rock, preparing to throw. She gave Edmund a quick wiggle of her eyebrows before turning toward the lake and taking a deep breath, then tossing it like a frisbee. It only skipped twice before sinking.

Ed couldn't help but smile yet again at Addi's competitive attitude. It was normal for them to be competitive with each other, but still fun and he enjoyed it. She showed him her first rock and he nodded, impressed. "Nice find," he complimented, watching as she got ready and then made a face at him before throwing her rock. It only skipped twice and he smiled, then forced a serious expression to don his face. "Alright, my turn," he said, not commenting on her throw at all. He pulled out a rock that was smooth and flat and mostly circular, except it kind of had three soft points like a triangle. It was a weird shape, but he liked it. "This is my first one," he said, showing it to her. He winked before facing the Lake and gripping the rock confidently in his hand. He turned and flicked it toward the Lake, the corners of his mouth twitching upward into a small smile when it skipped six times. He turned to Addi, giving an innocent shrug.

He said her rock was a nice find, which made her smile even more, even through her competitive exterior. She looked back at him to see him shift from a smile to a more serious face as he announced that it was his turn. She scoffed a little, taking a step back and folding her arms over her chest. She nodded as he showed her the rock and watched as it skipped six times. Big surprise there. She rolled her eyes and sighed as he gave his innocent shrug. "Nice," she mumbled. She pulled out another rock and got ready to throw it before furrowing her brow to look at him, "come show me," she said, her lips slowly forming her famous pout.

She wasn't super impressed by his rock skipping, but Ed wasn't really surprised. He just beat her in the first round by four skips. Who would be excited about that? She grabbed another rock and he watched as she got ready to throw it, then froze when she told him to come show her. His smile came back. "Of course." He walked so he was right beside her. "Okay, so what you want to do is work on flicking your wrist. You don't really use your arm, you just flick," he showed her what he meant with his own wrist. "That make sense?" He asked, assuming that that would be enough to help her rock skip a little more.

He smiled and she slowly smiled too, knowing that he would agree. He walked over to her and she waited, holding her hand with the rock out to him. He started to explain and she took another deep breath. Hearing him explain something as simple as tossing a rock into water was so comforting, it almost made her want to cry. He showed her with his own wrist and she nodded, her eyes narrowing. "Okay... okay, okay. Move over," she suggested, turning her body a little so she could aim toward the water. She tried the movement once without throwing it yet and looked over her shoulder at him, "like that?" she asked for clarification.

Ed watched her expression as he tried to explain how she should skip the rock. After his explanation, her eyes narrowed in determination. He watched with a smile on his face as she turned to face the water. She flicked her wrist, but didn't let the rock go and Edmund grinned, nodding his head at her, "Yeah, just like that," he told her. "Go ahead." He hoped it would work well for her on the first try. He wanted her to do well, especially with how stressed she was right now.

He confirmed that she was doing it right and she nodded again, her brow furrowing as she focused and tossed the rock. Five skips! She squeaked happily and spun around to face him, lifting her arms to place both hands on his shoulders and giving them a tight squeeze. "You're a great teacher. You should become a professor of rock skipping. Do muggles have schools for that? Competitions?" she joked, bringing her hands back to her sides. "Your turn again," she suggested happily. The fresh air, Edmund and a little competition was really all she needed to feel better. Addi was easy to please. All she really needed was positive attention and she could thrive. That came from being the youngest in her family, she guessed.

Edmund grinned when she flicked the rock and it skipped five times. That was perfect! She was obviously super happy about it and he grinned down at her when she smiled at him, squeezing his shoulders. "Thanks," he laughed at her compliments. "I don't think they have classes for rock skipping ... and I've never heard of competitions, though they might have them," he added thoughtfully. He wouldn't mind competing in a rock-skipping competition. He nodded when she said it was his turn again and pulled out another rock, flicking it and watching as it skipped five times, just like hers. "Looks like we tied that round," Ed grinned at her happily.

He tanked her for her compliments and she just shook her head. He said they didn't have classes for rock skipping and he didn't know a bout any competitions. She pouted, "maybe we'll just have to start a competition of our own," she joked. Then he tossed his rock and she counted - five - and he confirmed that by saying that they tied. He grinned at her and she laughed. "Okay, next ones we'll throw at the same time. Get ready!" she said prepping her own rock and holding it steady as she waited for him to get ready. "Okay ready... set... go!" she announced once he was set, tossing hers hard. She counted, one... two... three... four... five...!...six! That was as far as hers went, which was good enough for her- but how far did his make it?

Ed laughed when Addi started pouting about there not being rock-skipping competitions. "We definitely can. Once a month or once every other month, when the Lake isn't frozen over, I mean?" he asked, kind of teasing her but also curious about how serious she was about this idea. Edmund really liked the idea. He nodded when she said they should do it at the same time. "All right, but you'd better not just choose a number higher than mine. You have to actually count them, Addi," he teased. He wasn't really sure if she was as competitive as him or not or how much she wanted to win. He tossed his rock, grimacing when it only went five. What happened to the times when he skipped eight times in a row. He looked over at her curiously. "I got five. You?"

Edmund said thy could do a competition when the lake isn't frozen over. "Pssh, every week, Windsor. Unless you're scared I'll get too good," she teased, raising her eyebrows up and down rapidly in a challenge. At the suggestion of them doing it at the same time Edmund told her she had to actually count and she stuck her tongue out at him. "I'm not a cheater, Ed," she countered, "usually," she chuckled. She really wasn't... but she was known for looking into loopholes to get the things she wanted and to make new discoveries.
As they skipped, she didn't see his rock skipping past hers and she grinned, turning toward him as he gave his number. "Six. I swear," she said. raising both hands to either side. "I'm not lying to you," she reiterated.

Edmund rolled his eyes when Addi made a comment about him being scared to compete against her weekly. ”I’m not scared,” he argued instantly. ”I just didn’t want to overwhelm you.” Ed teased with a small smile. He shrugged when she said she wasn’t a teaser before they skipped their rocks.
When she said hers skipped six times, Edmund’s eyes narrowed. This was the perfect opportunity for him to tease her. ”Suuuuure. You just happened to get one more than me without any exaggerating ... mmhmmmm.”
