Joe listened to Kinseys answer thoughtfully, nodding his head every once in a while to acknowledge her answer. Asking girls if they believed in love at first sight was always very interesting. It was funny to see what girls were hopeless romantics and what ones were realists. Joe wasn't sure what he believed, but he enjoyed being around girls and messing around with them, but he probably didn't believe in love at first sight either. It took a lot of trust and time with that kind of stuff. Kind of like watering and tending to a precious flower. "That's a very mature answer, I like it." he nodded solidly, the corners of his lips twitching into a smile. She asked him what superhero he would want and he thought about it for a second. "I would say flying, but that's kind of basic." Joe shrugged. He basically flew every day on a broom so that wasn't a new sensation. "Probably to read minds." he finally answered, confident in his choice. It took him a second to think of another question. One thing he liked to do was ask questions. That was one trait that often got him into trouble in class, he was great at distraction. "What's your biggest pet peeve?"
Joe watched as she pulled the custard off of the stove. "Oh, looks good." he peered over her shoulder, admiring the concoction. As he turned to Kinsey, he noticed that she had custard on her cheek somehow. Joes green eyes narrowed to look at Kinsey, "You've got somethin' on your cheek.." he pointed at the spot with a funny face, but after a split second his face took on a brave smile. He leaned in and planted a kiss nonchalantly on her cheek, not really having to think twice about it. "Got it.." He beamed. He wasn't trying to be too forward, but if she got upset he would apologize and never do it again. "What's after custard, chef?" he asked in true sous chef fashion.

Kinsey smiled when Joe told her that her answer was very mature. He was probably just trying to be nice, but she was pretty serious about it. She thought about it a bit during the summer, after her conversations with Dustin and Diana about Riley. She knew that their relationship started fast, but it felt right. The more she got to know Riley, the more things with him felt right. Until it all broke, but she also knew she couldn't blame him for that. She nodded back at him, smiling when Joe said that he'd like flying or reading minds. For a second she almost told him that he didn't want to read minds if it was anything like her gift, then she realized what she was about to say! She couldn't tell him about her ability! She hardly knew Joe and she definitely didn't want to freak him out. He was so good for her self esteem. She scrunched her nose for a second when she thought how to answer his question. "Wet socks," she said with a serious expression, but she could only hold it for a second before she chuckled. "No, no I was just kidding. I ... hate when people say one thing but mean another." It wasn't maybe the easiest thing for most people to be able to tell, but Kinsey could. She knew when people were lying or insincere and she absolutely hated it.
Joe was standing right beside her when Kinsey pulled the custard off the stove, telling her it looked good. "Thanks," she answered in a cheerful voice. She was excited to put the custard together. It wasn't all done yet, but they were getting there. She turned to face Joe, feeling somewhat self-conscious when he mentioned there was something on her cheek. Kinsey started to lift her hand to wipe at it, but Joe was already leaning down and the next thing she knew, he was kissing her cheek ... what?! Kinsey felt her face turn red again and she stared at him as he pulled away, grinning at her. "That's good," she muttered breathily, dropping her gaze as a small smile played at the corners of her mouth. Why did that feel so nice? She turned back to the custard, trying to put her mind back to the thing at hand. "Uhhh ... we cover this and put it in the fridge to set until the cake is done," she answered in a shaky voice. "How's it coming?" Kinsey asked Joe, only then looking at him again.

Joe noticed her shaky voice when she asked him how the cake was coming along after he kissed her cheek. The shakiness made him feel a little bad for possibly crossing a boundary, but he knew that she was typically a pretty nervous person. He probably just caught her off guard. Joe crouched down ever so slightly to take a look at the cake in the oven. It looked like it was pretty much finished.
With a lazily shrug of the shoulders, he snuck his wand out of his pocket, and after a solid swish and a flick...the cake was really finished. He shot Kinsey a satisfied grin, bobbing his head up and down. "Okay, I said I didn't want to do it with magic, but whatever." he chuckled with an eye roll, pulling it out carefully and setting it on the counter top. With magic, it was already completely cooled down. "This means we get to eat faster." Joe said, leaning up against the counter top with a smirk.

As the two of them continued to talk, Kinsey felt her confidence return, rather quickly. Maybe she was getting more used to Joe and his teasing. She looked over at him as he bent to check on the cake. Then he shrugged at her, pulling out his wand and Kinsey started smiling. What was he up to? He flicked his wand and then pulled the cake out of the oven, explaining himself just a little bit. Kinsey laughed, unexpectedly pleased by his impatience. "Okay, well then if you're using magic on the cake ... we might as well use it on everything else so we can put it all together," she reasoned, pulling the jello and custard out of the fridge and waving her own wand so the two foods cooled and set. "You might want to cool your cake first though, cause crumbled cake is the first layer," Kinsey teased, smirking over at him. She had no doubt Joe would be able to take care of that. He obviously knew what he was doing in a kitchen. There was no doubt of that.

Joe was glad that Kinsey didn't seem to mind that he didn't really keep his word on not using magic. Honestly, he didn't want to wait for everything to cool, not when magic was an option. As she took care of her parts, he cooled down the cake with a flick of his wand. Joe turned to Kinsey. "Okay, cake is 'cooled'." he said with a helpful nod, lining everything up on the counter in an organized fashion. "What's next?" Joe asked, still wanting Kinsey to be the lead of the activity. If he really wanted to he could probably figure it out but he was glad to learn something else from Kinsey. She had taught him a lot the past couple of months, the Ravenclaw was really good at keeping his attention.

Kinsey pulled the jello and custard and strawberries out of the fridge, letting Joe line them all up while she got a deep, class bowl for them to put everything into. "This is the fun part," she told him easily. "We crumble some of the cake into the bottom, then put in a layer of jello, some strawberries on top of the jello, then custard ... and then we do it again! Until we reach the top of the bowl." She smiled at Joe cheerily. They were almost done! Then they got to enjoy it. "How about we take turns? You do ... the cake and the strawberries and I'll do the jello and custard?"
It wasn't even ten minutes later when they had all the layering done. Kinsey grinned at the result, turning to smirk at Joe. "Now, if we were muggles we'd put this in the fridge again so it could chill and set, but I really just want to eat it, soooo I'm using magic." She waved her wand, excited to taste the end result. She cut out a serving for herself and Joe and then gestured for him to try it. She already knew she was going to like it. "Tell me what you think," she encouraged before digging into her own. She was glad that she and Joe got the chance to cook together today. Not only did she get to have some of her favorite dessert, but she also had a bit of fun with him, despite how much he loved to tease her.

Joe listened intently to Kinsey's instructions on the different layers and crumbling up the cake. Simple enough. He'd never made trifle, but he got the idea, he was pretty sure after making it with Kinsey today he'd be able to surprise him with a trifle of his own twist. Or anything not chocolate, basically. They worked together to get the layers and cake together, chatting and joking around as usual.
When the cake was finally finished and Kinsey cooled it down with her wands, he nodded his head in approval. As much as he loved to bake and cook the 'Muggle way', the efficiency of magic was all too superior. The brunette cut him a piece and he gave it a good look over as she handed him a slice. "5 stars for presentation." he said with a smile and a nod. Joe lifted the fork to his mouth, giving it a cautious closed mouth chew. His face suddenly faltered dramatically, more along the lines of disgust, and a full body shudder.
He went silent.
Then, a smile slowly crept onto his face, green eyes flickering with amusement. "Nahh. Just kidding, that is really good."
(closing out!!)
